Lion's Back is now closed because of how many vehicles have actually fallen off the side after people lose control. The new owner got tired of dealing with having to clean up wrecks and also deal with the legal matters that are involved. Lion's Back is very amazing, and I don't even think this video really does it justice. That last drop down to the ground, it is so incredibly steep. No one who hasn't been there would never truly know just how steep it really is. Your eyes can easily trick you.
Sweet vid! So cool to see Lion's Back again, as my family used to go down to Moab all the time when I was younger and I'm proud to say I've been up and down this hill once with my dad when I was like ten or something. Scary but awesome just to know you did it :)
it was purchased by someone who wanted to build condos at the base. I was there in June and they still haven't done anything with the land (Lions back was always private land btw).
I'd climb it...with a helicopter! Very nice video! Definitely 5 stars. I bet your brakes were hot enough to roast hot dogs on by the time you got to the bottom! I was involuntarily clenching up just watching this video...seriously some crazy stuff.
I too have done this, it really isn't hard...just intimidating. It is now closed permanently and there will be condos built all around it. Good thing you got this video when you did, nice XTERRAs.
@kowz4u it is closed. They closed it a couple of years ago. It's always been on private property. Close to the end they actually started charging people $20 a vehicle. Then they found out about the liability, and close it completely.
the fact that the ground around it isnt flat makes it look alot steeper than it actually is. especially using an onboard camera. Check out the video (donny's video truckin up lion's back) puts it all into perspective. it aint that bad
His brother got the camera off ebay. It sat on the roof hooked up to a 9 volt battery and I cant believe how good the picture is!!!! Too bad that trail is shut down now...
Been there, done that, its exiting and maybe fears the folks that have vertigo problems. Big bummer would be a gearbox breakage or similar. ;) Its a shame that its sold and closed now but there are much more dangerous and difficult spots around.
That's my Xterra... not stock but not radical. I thought going up and the turn around was way harder then going down ;) I'm just glad we were able to do it before they closed it.
its to bad that it is closed now. at least i can say that i did climb it back it '92 in my stock '91 nissan p/u at night. if it was in the day time i dont know if i would of climb it. the couple of beers did heip
come for a ride with me. I have run cars way up in triple digits that would make many people sick, or at least frightened. scariest thing I ever did in a car was this: Lion's Back at the end of Hell's Revenge offroad trail in Moab, Utah. true track is about a car wide. besides steep pay attention to the drops left and right. and for perspective, watch for public road below. this was filmed by a guy with a pinhole camera on his helmet.
it's not THAT steep remember the cam is mounted on top of the vehicle, don't get me wrong speaking as someone who has driven those same exact tire tracks it is a hell of a challange but as long as you have a capable rig and take your time you'll do just fine. I still hate the turn around at the top. Maybe I am nuts but I'd still like to try it in the rain.
no, its on private land, where video of dude crashing coming down, lost his brakes 3/4 way down, no stopping couple pretty bounces, 100 ft from bottom goes off right side nose dive into sand no idea if he survived , it didnt look good tho, video used to be here, only one i've ever seen that crash was recorded
One thing.. maybe the second truck should wait until the other one is done and out of the way.. It would suck it two drivers had to suffer because of the failing of another.
Jaw dropping!! Excellent driving skills! Scary as hell! Kudos!! Be safe!
Thats the best 4x4 vid Ive seen on here, Id love to see this track in real life but thats as close as im ever gunna get to it, thanks for the ride.
that was freking awesome!!!!!!!!!
Great shot...keeps you on your toes! One slip off the edge and its adios amigo!

Awesome vid!! Looks way different and scarier now!
well played!!!! without seeing it, i wouldn't have thought it possible at the end there. Great drive
It's way scarier then what you see in this video. Great job.+++
Awesome vid. Perfect video perspective too.
Holy Sh*t... the videos from the bottom of Lion's Back dont do justice to how steep that is... good job!
best lion's back video or any 4x4 video for that matter. I wonder who was the first person to go down.
Impressive. I'm more of a Jeep guy but I have always liked those XTerras.
Nice vid great control Ice cold. some one said lions back is closed now. How sad

That camera must be tilted down a bit, doesn't matter. That video was SICK
Damn, I'm at full pucker just watching it.
Elephant balls. No, the balls of some creature yet discovered by archaeologists. Yes, ballzasorous. Great video, really enjoyed it and your balls.

SCHOW de bola!!! Onde fica esse lugar? Eu sempre vejo fotos e videos mas não sei onde é.. É nos EUA?
Very impressive trail this! Such a shame it's closed now. Great video but, OMG, what the hell is that music?
Excellent video... thanks, I always wondered how steep it would actually seem.
so steep. watching this vid makes my feet tingle.
Do you have to deflate the tires a little bit to do this? Or is it possible using normal street pressure..?
i wouldnt even want to walk down this hill
excelente!!! la musica ayuda! alguien sabe que grupo es?

Yeah it's about 60 degrees at the begining, First time I took my Sami up it I loved it. Especially looking at nothing but sky the first 20 feet or so.
His brother got the camera off ebay. It sat on the roof hooked up to a 9 volt battery and I cant believe how good the picture is!!!!
Too bad that trail is shut down now...
That shit was bad ass !!! next time I want to take my jeep ... lol
I am so wanting to go back to Moab! What is the name of the song and who from?
I'm sad they closed it. I remember watching a guy fly up the entire thing on a 2Cyl dirt bike seriously in less than 10 seconds.
@Bongwater123 The great thing about the rock there, it's like sandpaper, this isn't a real hard thing to do if you've got the grits for it.
Been there, done that, its exiting and maybe fears the folks that have vertigo problems.
Big bummer would be a gearbox breakage or similar. ;) Its a shame that its sold and closed now but there are much more dangerous and difficult spots around.
bottom looks so scary!
why'd they close it down? i was hoping to get out there in about two weeks...
isn't lion's back closed now?
This is where you need gears, a badass xfercase like an Atlas. Just idle down it
I am so going there with my Jeep just need to get some new tires lol
BRO .... were did you get that 20.00 camera
That's my Xterra... not stock but not radical. I thought going up and the turn around was way harder then going down ;) I'm just glad we were able to do it before they closed it.

You must have balls of steel to do that, jeez nearly shit myself just watching, how steep was the last 20 odd feet?,looked damn scarey
It can and it has.
@Tugonthegoat Good brakes can't get slow you down if you have s**t tyres...
it's not THAT steep remember the cam is mounted on top of the vehicle, don't get me wrong speaking as someone who has driven those same exact tire tracks it is a hell of a challange but as long as you have a capable rig and take your time you'll do just fine. I just got an xterra...just got to get the balls for that...
The owners of it sold it to some guy and was gonna build condo's at the Base next to it from what Ive read
would someone plz tell me if lion's back is still open to public or not? cuz i've been planning to climb that rock for years and years...
no, its on private land, where video of dude crashing coming down, lost his brakes 3/4 way down, no stopping couple pretty bounces, 100 ft from bottom goes off right side nose dive into sand no idea if he survived , it didnt look good tho, video used to be here, only one i've ever seen that crash was recorded
@@jonblack6624 it was a "she". Not he that crashed when she lost her brake. That Ford Bronco crash you are talking about..
One thing.. maybe the second truck should wait until the other one is done and out of the way.. It would suck it two drivers had to suffer because of the failing of another.
Try that in this country (UK) and you'd be swamped by smelly vegetarians before you could get your engine started :(
hey who is band and what is name of song
Prong, snap your fingers snap your neck
@TheBoyNamedNoize nahh, did you see that BIRD!!!!!!!!!
i cant wait to take my 87 acura legend , and tear that back... ouch!!!
at 2:49 holy shit thats steep
at 2:30 even i got a little nervous...a tad too close to the edge.
That would be a bad time to have a break failure.
