Ya the jeep must have not rolled over because I didn't get the whole thing on camera. Just like that tree in the woods that made now sound when it fell
This driver was way out of his depth, plus the fact the spotter has a lot to answer for. His lack of experience demonstrated in this video, is indicative of that. With these two inexperienced guys, this was an easy predictable accident. Fortunately for both of them, they have survived to see another day.
I agree, driver’s lack of vehicle control led to over driving the obstacle. We see so many macho desk jockeys pretending to be pro-spotters because they’re toy proud to admit they don’t no shit about tire placement or vehicle dynamics in difficult terrain!
Agree. Interesting how that went. Tried crawling up several times. That last time, gave it more throttle and was successful in the lower section - so must have thought more power all the way up.
Probably should have called Moab Motorsports and had Rory come pick you up with Trail Mater.. Also I hope someone talked to the driver about keeping hands and arms inside the vehicle at all times. He is lucky to still have a left arm.
Never been to that spot, picture seldom do it justice in it looks rough. Glad Everyone is OK. Glad you videoed the recovery, looks like you know your way around a rig. (Cool Samurai) too !
The second my front end gets a little light, I'm either turning back or looking for a bypass. Good to see everyone safe. And these guys are certainly good sports about the whole thing!
I’m glad to see that nobody was hurt! Others have commented on what was done wrong by both the driver and spotter so I have nothing to add there. I live in Colorado now and have been around off roading my entire life but in other States. Last year I ordered a 2021 JL Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon and totally love it. Everything except for the eTorque. That system I hate but everything else is really nice on my Jeep. After seeing this video I now want to go check out that spot and attempt it myself.
@@amyfromcali9051, I’m from Cali too originally. But the eTorque has its own battery, coolant system and water pump as well as a belt start generator as opposed to a traditional alternator. I like to off road and go off grid in very remote locations. All of those things add weight, more complexity and more things to break down. An alternator or a battery dies, I can do a trail fix. Not with any of these components though. An alternator is maybe $200.00 to $250.00. A battery, maybe $150.00 at the most. The eTorque system has a belt start generator that is around $1,200.00 just for the part. $2,000.00 to $2,500.00 for the eTorque battery just for the part and that takes special tools and training to change. The water pump and coolant system is I think somewhere between $500.00 to $850.00 just for the parts. Plus the stop/start feature will shorten the life span of an engine. All that to save 1mpg to 2mpg. But delete all that stuff and save the weight and I bet you would accomplish the same goal. Since the manual transmission 3.6’s don’t have eTorque I’m trying to see if I can convert mine to that same set up but with the 8 speed automatic transmission?
Two things which stuck out to me. Spotter and driver could discuss hand signals before the climb and spotter should be in a place where they are safe and driver can see them. Glad only thing hurt was the Jeep which can be fixed.
3:14 - Winscreen? The British term is "windscreen" -- not "winscreen." In the U.S. the term is windshield. Just wondering if "winscreen" is a typo or a brand reference. Anyone know?
You live you learn man! It sucks that it happened but I’m sure the whole process was fun in its own way regardless. I thought it was when I flipped mine, figuring out how to safely put her back on the trail.
Wow. That was a horrible roll over. The hand/arm out the driver window freaked me out. But I hate to pour salt on the wound of the driver, but that was a case of waaaay too excessive skinny pedal! I'm shocked the driver didn't get out of it with the clutch as soon as the front went up. Glad no one was injured! Hopefully a good learning lesson and sad for the Jeep. Safe wheeling.
Be great to hear the engine, tyres on rocks, people talking as opposed to all the music drowning everything out. It is a 4WD video, if I wanted to listen to music I would turn on the radio. Still, glad no one was hurt, and it sucks that happened but to be expected if you push the boundaries of your limits, but hey that's what getting out there is all about.
i love the ' The roll bar did its job.' Yep, it did... but I wouldnt be very happy with the amount of damage. Jeeps roll so easy. Short wheel bases coupled with higher center of gravity, spring in the tires (Bounce) and of course the gravity constant... pitch angle, articulation. When to use the horse power, when to NOT use the horse power all combine. Like previous commentor.. there is a comprehension level.. however, experience points were earned here.. no body got hurt. But you will pay for the points. ;)
Live and learn! Glad you are OK. 2 doors shouldn't be going up there without securing front of the vehicle. I've seen so many 2 doors flip like a pancake.
3 minutes in, I can see that the person on camera wasted the opportunity to capture the rollover. Glad to hear nobody was hurt, but missed the drama. You either have good insurance or just money to burn on rebuilding.
I've always been a firm believer that you should walk your way into wheeling, not running. I'm assuming the drivers skill set only by watching this clip. Lots of mistakes. Add low wheeling time, lockers, 4:1 case and bad spotting and you've got at minimum a wasted vehicle. I'm glad the guys ok..... My TJ is on 1 tons, 40s, stretched, blah blah blah and it took me 26 yrs of wheeling to get to that point. And I still hate certain lines. baby steps my friend, baby steps.
Good to see everyone is okay. Pretty scary stuff. You could have been crushed and killed if you had tripped while running out of the way. Please stay safe!
Damn that sucks, glad he and spotter are ok. Toyota guy here so I have limited knowledge on the Wrangler but it seems his wheel base is way to short for that climb. I know I'm arm- chairing it but man his approach was way to fast for a shorter wheel base. Don't mean to offend.
The guy just push the gas at the end to make it to the top , and then the bouncing began over the big rocks, and that was it....., that was a rookie move.
I've seen you comment several times that he was new to wheeling. Why didn't anyone stop him from driving up this rock wall, Someone should have intervened, y'all are lucky someone didn't die... the spotter or the driver. Be careful and speak up when you know someone shouldn't do something.
A few quick observations here. 1. The fact that this guy still has his left arm is nothing short of dumb luck. It looked like he was trying to flag down the drone or something. 2. When you see your hood pointing toward the sky let of the gas. 3. It looked like street pressure in the tires. 4. No front locker. 5. No rear locker or possibly a posi? 6. WTH was the spotter doing in the danger zone? 7. The fact that these guys made it back to the highway with nothing but bent metal was a gift from God. Please learn the basics so others may live.
It seems to be a kind of flex for these goofball spectators to see how close they can get to potential jeep rollovers. Dudes just walking right next to it trying to show off or something.
You guys really need an air tank, and to lower your tire pressures. On my rig I have a CO2 tank for an old soda set up and a 150psi regulator. I run my tires at 5psi, then when I get off the trail I just air them up to around 15psi. Glad everyone was OK, I would also consider a real cage, not the OEM one. Wheeling on those trails, I personally wouldn't trust an OEM cage.
@@Lostbirdproductions That's a good answer but you could do nothing until the Jeep stopped and there's other people who were closer . Not trying to argue but I've been in the same spot.
All things considered: Video showed he may have been aired down a little (looking at the tire while it bounced my estimate is15 lbs, which is not what I consider aired down). Next build IMO add bead lock rims so you can air down to 5-8 lbs. ** GLAD EVERYONE IS OK! **
I believe he was at 10 pounds but with brand new tires so the sidewalls may have been a little stiff. It was also a manual and he was new to wheeling so had a bit of a panic moment. He will be back at it soon with better gear and knowledge!
"Behind the Rocks" and "New to Wheelin'" don't belong in the same sentence. There are at least 60 other spectacular trails around Moab that would be much better. Tiptoe Behind the Rocks is a great example. Skip all of the major obstacles and it's already hard enough. Regardless, thanks for sharing the video. It's helpful to see the adventure, even when everything doesn't go according to plan.
looks like the technique to make a successful climb is to have a low psi back tire like the white Jeep truck. Looks like the first truck had a full inflated tires. I hope the driver was fine. The truck can always be fixed.
I have had many tires in the 14 years of owning my JK. I had those DuraCRAP tires. They did well on the heavier 4 doors but were terrible on the 2 door. They got you into really bad situations. The sidewall is E rated and they will not bulge. IMHO they were dangerous off road compared to a cooper STT Pro. Glad everybody ended up safe.

Too much air in the tires too?
It's also a 2dr with a shorter wheel base and top heavy. Way too much throttle, Slow and smooth, and pick good lines.
Speed kills. Low range crawl not pedal to metal.

My second CJ7 was a rollover. Replaced the front clip. Repaired the door frames and put a new top on it. Drove it for several years after that.
well now he has a fully dedicated rock crawler, do not have to worry about scratches anymore..
Cool to see a 1980's Susuki doing his Job.....(Had 3 of them, very cool )

Did this in stock 2014 Power Wagon a few years ago with no problems. Sometimes it’s all about the wheelbase.
60,000 jeep?
Low range next time?
Not one straight panel left on that Rubi…😭
watched one to man king of the hammers videos - vehicle not prepared and driver very green - needed an easier trail to learn on

Are 4 doors better at this than 2 doors or was it the driver driving to hard? Just got a TJ, new Jeep owner.
4 doors will be a bit more stable but the driver shown was new to offroading and was driving a manual so he got spooked and floored it.
@@Lostbirdproductions awe I totally get it. I’m glad he was okay that was scary.
I always floor it up hills when I'm wheeling, best way to do it, only way you can flip over in a Jeep really. Good idea.
