We were out there in the late 90s. No way. lol I walked up the first bit & even that is a little unnerving. There are shorter climbs that are as steep & my truck could do them so I know my rig was capable but it's so long & there is no place to bail. It's a real mind trip. You have some serious balls. Thx for posting this. It lets me see the view I chickened out on. :)
Good job Driving, I believe it was closed because of the potential danger, (litigation) because of popularity a lot of inexperienced drivers made attempts, damage to the actual rock (notice tire marks at the bottom) The person driving in this Vid did an excellent job of driving this is the type of driver that respects safety, and the environment. Thanks for the information JeepWheeler. Truly incredible machines, and I am glad to own one - even though it is a stripped down base version. I read that the Lion's Back is no longer accessible to off-roaders. I guess the State of Utah heard enough from the law tort folks and the ecologists perhaps. Anyway, it's a wicked piece of geography to test one's machine and one's nerves on. Cheers! Have Jeep - will travel
Nice driving and nice filming. 2:31 forward looks physically impossible. I guess you just put your faith in the fact that thousands have done it before and the Jeep will hold onto the rock!
I remember when they Lions Back shown on a tv show many years ago where they showed somebody first driving up it to the top with no problem but after they they turned around, they started to come down when all of a sudden their brakes went out on their vehicle and it started gaining speed, started bouncing actually leaving the ground on a couple of bounces then when it reached the bottom, the vehicle went nose first right into the ground and onto its roof, all were ok, if I remember so....
@melistone i got one right know and i say its a XJ because in the hood has a design very classic of a XJ / the line and the sound is very similar. adicional information ( his friends have a wrangler and a Jeep Classic XJ
@TheMonsteraki In the minute 3:11 its the engine sounds. mmmm I think the Hummer is more width and less square. I dont understand ur question " can you unerstand if its 3D or 5D? U Camera?? sorry for my bad english :)
I'm from Indiana,i never been out west but I know enough and seen enough about this "lions back"that I can put it the same category as crack or heroin, something I would never attempt,no way in hell with the risk versus the reward factor!!!lol
Ty for the scary video:) Always wanted to know what it was like to drive up or down this after that one clip on tv... you know the one where the trucks brakes fail...
Incredible! Great piloting there. Did you rely entirely on the brakes and how did you prevent them from locking up and loosing adhesion of the tires? Looked like a Cherokee you were in. Great vehicles. Have Jeep - will travel.
aw reedy ! cant you remember the good ol days? I would have been on a wheelie passing jeeps on that hill, you know it would be so dude! the ol 480 would wheelie any where at any speed....just twist!
@nswsparky excellent vid but tell me how did you keep the camera so still? Plus I heard that lions is unaccessable now. I have the RUBICON, pretty soon it will be closed too! too bad.
Better not. If you're coming for this, it's a waste of time. Lions back is now on private property, and the owner doesn't want the liability of letting anyone go up and down it.
Kevin Rogers wouldn't surprise me. People are doing all sorts of crazy shit with the best OHV trails, the ones that have closed down. Rather dump millions to build condos than earn millions by opening the trails back up, charging admission and making people sign a release of liability so their asses are covered. Makes no sense to me, but I guess some just don't understand the solitude and gratification of wheeling on trails like these.
That is so Cool, I just posted a Hill climb, not as steep, much smaller, I'm just getting into exploring my Jeep, fourwheeling. Question did you Air-Down your tires, once again very cool.
I'm guessing my role cage wouldn't save me here I might have to add like a roof parachute or something I don't have the balls to do this yet but one day I will.. I hope

I'll never forget that time I saw that Blazer lose control and fly off the side.
Yeah, that was a scary one.
I love how its just absolute silence in the cab no one saying a word lol
Sick video man, I was scared shitless watching it from the comfort of my chair lmao!!!

I love how at the end from the prospective of the camera it looks like you are going down a 90% angle. That's sick. Kudos.

Nice driving and nice filming. 2:31 forward looks physically impossible. I guess you just put your faith in the fact that thousands have done it before and the Jeep will hold onto the rock!
From some of us here is Australia....well done fella....
Wow, what a great place!
Going up would be more difficult, than going down for sure. I'd try it...
Not the way she did it no brakes now what
Well, that's terrifying!

WOW You are the man
This was freaking amazing. Good on ya!
I took the wrong turn somewhere around there...at night ..and ended up on the top of this rock while towing my caravan....
Amazing.
by the stories i hear, this is the kind of hill my grandpa used to climb BOTH WAYS to get to school.
my hands started shaking by just watching the video.
Awesome. Holy shit the end is nuts
no, actually I have it in the lowest possible gear I have to let the engine do most of the braking. I hardly had to use the brakes
@melistone i got one right know and i say its a XJ because in the hood has a design very classic of a XJ / the line and the sound is very similar.

amazing video man
this guy has some real balls
I LOVE my Rubicon, with all my heart, but I just don't know if I have that much faith in it's brakes!
@TheMonsteraki In the minute 3:11 its the engine sounds. mmmm I think the Hummer is more width and less square.
I dont understand ur question " can you unerstand if its 3D or 5D? U Camera??
sorry for my bad english :)
My balls shrank up just watching the video. Glad someone out there has the nerve to do this type of shit. Kudos.
thats really really sick, awesoem vid, i would have done that for sure
hell yeah that was nice
I'm from Indiana,i never been out west but I know enough and seen enough about this
"lions back"that I can put it the same category as crack or heroin, something I would never attempt,no way in hell with the risk versus the reward factor!!!lol
The west rocks! Come on over check it out, just being at the top of a 13,000 ft mountain by itself is a worth the trip...
Damn! That was pure NUTZ!
Ty for the scary video:) Always wanted to know what it was like to drive up or down this after that one clip on tv... you know the one where the trucks brakes fail...
OH MY GOSH FEELS LIKE IN THE TRUCK WITH YOU! (in full screen)
thats just freaking insane, I'd never do it LOL
god damn! that was insane! fuckn with physics brah!
I went on this last summer with a family friend. Not too sure if i will do it again. Doesnt seem to scary until you are actually on it :/
going up is the easy part, but comming down is a totaly different story.
respect!!
woooow respect for doing that! nice filmed! and how steep is the last part?
Nice way to get everyone to hush up in the station wagon on a road trip lol
That is a good point. Jeeps change lives.
very nice bro...

I want to try it!!! I saw a video of some guy rolling down this, I think.
The adrenalin pumping...
I'd need a change of pants after that one. Damn.
@nswsparky excellent vid but tell me how did you keep the camera so still? Plus I heard that lions is unaccessable now. I have the RUBICON, pretty soon it will be closed too! too bad.
great driving, i wouldnt ever attempt that id be way to scared that i'd fail ='L
wow well done!
I am scared shitless watching this video...dam!
that is ridiculous. i got nervous watching this!!!! how many times have you done it? very nicely done.
wow.
The last part was sooo great.
I guess the truck is lifted. Departure angle 68 is not a standard for any truck.
damn thts cool
Wow - great job. Has anyone ever died on Lions Back?
omfg respect!
holy shit! I am coming to Utah!
Better not. If you're coming for this, it's a waste of time. Lions back is now on private property, and the owner doesn't want the liability of letting anyone go up and down it.
Chris Wilson I was there last week. I was told by a Deputy that the owner is going to build condos on top of the ridge overlooking it. What a shame.
Kevin Rogers wouldn't surprise me. People are doing all sorts of crazy shit with the best OHV trails, the ones that have closed down. Rather dump millions to build condos than earn millions by opening the trails back up, charging admission and making people sign a release of liability so their asses are covered. Just like a ride at Six Flags
I'm scared of heights so I think I will stick to mud, I was holding on for ya the whole way down.
insane
Balls of Steel
I really would like know what type of suspension is in that jeep that is capable of carrying this guy's Hugh titanium ball's!!!
Nice one!!!
Ill give it a go with my Defender
Any tips ?
Who else thought they were looking at the peak of a helmet and was about to watch a mountain biker send it?
My palms are sweating
jesus it looks like its straight down at the end.
I'm guessing my role cage wouldn't save me here I might have to add like a roof parachute or something I don't have the balls to do this yet but one day I will.. I hope
sweet. jeep cherokee xj too...
@oneoleqt friggin right it does. just watching it was freaky. it looked like a complete drop off, too. maybe someday, right?
Were you using the brakes or is it just geared that low?
Real men do it without breaks.
he did baby lions back, this one has been closed for the past 6 years
I give anyone a lot of credit for trying that! However, the one that gets the most credit is the first person that tried it!
As cool as it is to watch,, I just couldn't do it.. I'd pass out. lol
i really want to know what convinced a guy to randomly drive up that thing then back down and start thing trend
thats crazy, what kinda truck is it?
@TheMonsteraki @melistone i got one right know and i say its a XJ because in the hood has a design very classic of a XJ / the line and the sound is very similar.
