I'm not telling a fish story but back in the early 90's I climbed Lion's Back at night in a stock 92 Nissan P/U with a 4 popper and a 5 speed not knowing what I was going up because my girlfriends brother who happened to live there took me there after I told him I wanted to go wheeling after we had a few beers. It took me 3 or 4 tries at the base to get going.... when I did get going I sobered up knowing there was no turning around until I got to the top. But I did it and glad to say that I did.
@@jeffkaupke3890 Outstanding! After doing stupid stuff in the USAF for 20+ years and Jeep jeeping for as many, I like a nice trail ride now. I still want to jump out of an airplane though. Not dead yet :-)
I agree with you, blazer6248. In the old days, the owner charged a couple bucks to let people drive up. Fair enough deal, its his land. All off-roaders (and everyone else, for that matter) need to RESPECT PRIVATE PROPERTY.
I'm just now seeing your video.. that looks scary as hell... I wheel in a full size Tundra and I don't think I would attempt that.. Great footage. Thanks for sharing
Went there a year ago but was closed for traffic. Maybe too many accidents happened in the past, it looks really challenging and hairy for the most of it. I guess it is worth driving but cannot anymore.
I am bummed I never got a chance to drive this when it was open. I would do it now with the truck I currently drive but alas it is closed. To bad the rig I drove back when it was open was such a pile and I could not trust it enough for the attempt.
It might be LESS scary at nght, because you wouldn't have to look at the cliffs on either side of the track. The Lions Back is on private property, the owner has fenced off the whole area; the rumor was that he is building condos on that property. I haven't been there for 2 years or more, so I'm not sure what the current situation is.
I nearly died 3 times on poison spider yrs ago riding 250 KTMs Got lost 9hr made it back to the van freezing & in the dark it was no joke I was 58 at the time. Ha wouldn’t change a thing 😂
Anyone EVER tried this at NIGHT? Man, what if the break stops working. Can a Hummer handle this and how large an area is up there for turning. How can they CLOSE it? Did they dynamite the entry point? SCARYYYYYYY
That by far is the most intense over all video of all the Mozb vids. One other vid compatible, but on foot (Chicken corners) around the last fifty ft.at drop off point, last tippy slippy edge.warning!-never try in night darkness(ev ed n with lighting) of if wet from rain,or sweat, lll.
They closed it!? Dam do gooders! One thing for sure...after watching this, just plain ol trail driving in the desert doesn't seem all that challenging. Well I guess we could go back to street racing and risking innocent people on the roads. Or for kicks the ol game of chicken with a semi was a real rush !
NOT unfortunate that they closed it to vehicle traffic. GLAD it's closed. No one in their right mind should be doing anything like that! Jesus, just stand on the ground and admire the works of geology.
I think there is another way down but from what I have heard it is unbelievably scary and dangerous. Moot point, because the whole thing is fenced off.

One of the BEST videos I've see about Lions Back.
I did that rock on my mountainbike 1999, big memory for life :)
I am turning 52 yrs old this year. The stupid things I did in my jeep 10 years ago scare the hell out of me now.
Well, when I made that video I was 56.....I just turned 69 today and still doing stupid stuff in offroad vehicles.....

@@valleywe Thank you for your service and for standing for our freedoms.
Darwin is very upset about the closure of Lions Back !
Awesome. No Fear. Maximum compression, no brakes. So that is how it's done!
I thought it's vaccuum braking...I thought compression brake is only from diesel engine not petrol...

Pyle, get in that jeep and get UP THAT HILL! But sarge, I just don't think that's a good idea... PYLE!!!, MOVE IT/MOVE IT/MOVE IT!!!!!!
That's impressive, the view and the hill. It looks like when you're going down you're vertical. Bet your hearts were pumpin on that one.
Gives me goosebumps watching it from my living room...
great video..... i felt every risk in the climb and descent!
Sweet jeep nice vid. I have had my tj for only a year. And have done a little off roading. Sorry to hear that L.B is closed. great control.
Was just up there over the weekend and it is still fenced off. Nothing has been done around the area. You have to be crazy to do this.
Just watching this gives me goosebumps!!! Turning around up there would have scared me as much or more then the trail itself!
great angles, well done

Great Job! Good video.

Oh my goodness, it's not joke becarefull it's good for adventure
Speaking of fish stories, we pulled at least 10 totaled 4x4, cars, trucks outa there back in the 70's & 80's
That was incredibly scary and im on the damn couch !!! Wholly crap , no freakin way man.......
Yes it would. I have done some wheeling at Moab in the rain, and the "slickrock" provides surprisingly good traction even when wet.
Its too bad its not open id love to give it a go. Definitely a no mistake obstacle.
Lion's Back is still closed, as of last week.
sounds solid
People have died on Lions back. Gonna be a while before its open again - if ever.
Nothing is permanent

It would suck if it started raining when you made it to the top.

No condos there as of April 2021. Lions back is still closed too which is a bummer because I would have loved choosing to not attempt it
that was crazy...
From 2:55 can you spot something?
Definitely an alien
Wow, that is the scariest part 😮!!
I nearly died 3 times on poison spider yrs ago riding 250 KTMs

How come the parks dept let you do this? Do you have to come down the same route you took up?
See the face on the Mesa coming down?
Nice view

Why bother.....there is´nt even a pub up there !
Is this a recent video???? Lions back open to the public again?
let's hope new land owner'll re-open Lion's back...
My bad, should of watch the whole video....fungule it sucks its closed.
is it still open to public as of now?
It was closed by the new owner

Thumbs up if you see the face in the rocks
Brake check anyone?
That’s awesome too bad they’ve closed it
I'd rather go fishing..........................
I'm going to climb it... no fence is stopping me.
lol. See what happens.
???? I would be scared walking down that
I wouldn't ever even ride a bike down that
Let alone drive a jeep down it
I agree!
I would rather have a bike over the Jeep.
steep enough so that your front wheels lift if you get on the gas too hard at any point.
OMG scary!
un. real.
O_O
OMFG

I know you are just kidding with this comment, so I won't respond any further.
Go hug a tree, leave the real men alone!
Well I was back in Moab 10/12/14, and the area is still fenced off, no access. :(
I think there is another way down but from what I have heard it is unbelievably scary and dangerous. Moot point, because the whole thing is fenced off.
Parks department had nothing to say about it, the lions back was (is) on private property.
