Self defense is also important when they start touching you physically. Being rude is when they start being demanding enough to a point where they stop caring about your boundaries. Leaving or stopping all contact is when you have that small hunch (no matter how small) thats makes you stand up and leave. Saying no means no, anyone who tells you other wise or ignores that command dont have good intentions and are there to do you no good, or cause u harm. Its absolutely ok to do all of those things above, with no fear of seeming like a "buzz kill" or an "uptight brat". If you think your life may be affected in the near future or in danger, anything is ok and useful.

This is why it's important to always meet in a public place on your first date. Don't enter their car, don't go to their home, don't follow them into a hotel, don't tell them your address and if something is sketchy, dip out. Even as a guy i follow these rules. It's unfortunate that the most friendly people are often too trusting. Poor girl, i hope she's in a better place now.

You are absolutely right. I wrote a wall of text right before i read your posting about that. Its so avoidable, with the rules you mentioned. And those are easy rules... not hard to follow rules. And she was not stupid, she could know and understand those rules. Sure a lot of women dont think ''that this particular guy will be my killer this night'' ...and yes , in 99,999% cases they are absolutely right about that. But still: its not worth the 0,001 % risk. Espescially when the rules are such easy and not hard to follow. And there is only one life we all have... and its prescious, and not worth any risk ! Hell, i even never would go for a parachute-jump - its just not necessary... sure, in 99,999% of cases nothing happens. But i dont want to be that 0,001% case. Sure, if a airplane is about to crash, i would jump with a parachute... but thats it. There is no need to ''play games with risks''.

If the person you're going on a date with can't meet you in a public setting, it's the biggest red flag. Plus, anyone who brings his friend with him on a date is another red flag and who knows the intentions of the person from that point on, which Eleni was an unfortunate victim of in the end. I could only imagine the fear she felt being with these two weird and sadistic monsters not knowing her fate.

@@bbyjscx I think the commenter meant if you're a woman who shows up for a date and the man (who can more then likely already physically overpower you) brings along another male friend, that's a red flag for a potentially unsafe situation, especially in this case where they're driving her in a car and also took her to a private residence. You have to take the context of situations into consideration. If you're a woman, sure, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to bring a friend along, although that could make for an awkward date. A double date where you know one or both of the other couple is probably a more realistic idea.

The moment he stared at me and stopped I heard a voice in my head saying "he's coming for you" over and over. I remember looking for an apartment. (I'm in Greece, too). The guy who showed up was an absolute giant in size. The apartment was on the fifth floor of a building, and while we were on a busy road outside, we' d be alone inside (elevator etc.) but what made me nervous was his demeanour when I was stalling. He seemed agitated, sweaty, nervous and jumpy. What actually sealed it for me were his trousers. They were quite short on him and I recall how looney it made him look, like he wasn't all there mentally. Anyhow, I'm so glad I called it off and offered an excuse and left.

Even helped me acclimate when I transferred to her school in the middle of the school year because of my mother's work relocation to Evros. I live in Scotland now but flew back to attend her funeral. Her poor mother was inconsolable and the grief in her eyes will remain with me forever. Nearly as bad as the crime itself was the portrayal of Eleni by some of the online media. They killed her all over again with those victim-blaming articles.

Difficult as this is to speak of… Rape isn’t always so cut and dry. When I was 19, some work friends invited me to a party some friends they knew were throwing at their cabin in the local woods. It was nice, a bonfire, good food, some underage drinking… Now, I wasn’t stupid, I knew my limits with alcohol. So this “nice guy” who had approached me soon after I got there was the one to get me a drink. I was a Jack Daniel’s girl then. He brought me this HUGE cup that looked like half the bottle. I was just sipping it, but every time I went to take a drink, he would tip my cup and I’d get more than I wanted. I ended up incredibly drunk, stumbling, slurring my words, something I’ve never done. He took me inside to lie down and forced himself on me. I kept telling him no, but I was too drunk to fight back. I remember crying… When it was over, he left, but I stayed there crying. The cabin owners, both young men who were about 25, came through to use the bathroom, eventually came through and found me crying. One asked me what was wrong and I told him. He told the other to go find the guy while he stayed with me. Soon the other guy drug this POS back in and the first guy roughly grabbed him, pointed at me and said, “Look! Look what you’ve done to her!” To which POS sweetly said, “I’m sorry, if I knew it was going to upset you, I wouldn’t have done anything.” Notice the first person used here? Yeah, so did those 2 guys… So they start grilling him. He did use protection, but it was nowhere to be found. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you where it was. I had to retrieve it and when I did, it was barely unrolled at all. I was mortified, ashamed and just wanted to go home. I got a ride home, I don’t remember who with, it’s a bit hazy, and said nothing until the next day when I had to tell my mom. I couldn’t look her in the eye… She was surprisingly calm and asked what I wanted to do if I ended up pregnant, I said get rid of it with disgust. She said okay. We didn’t have that kind of money, but she said we’d figure something out. She was actually very kind about the entire thing, even when I put myself down for being foolish and blaming myself for putting myself in that situation. She kept telling me it wasn’t my fault, just like the guys the night before. The girls at the party that I worked with? Well, rumors were spread… I was a slut, I wanted it, I was asking for it… All manor of awful things that made my life hell. And when I found a boyfriend, they told him I slept around and if he did anything with me, he might have AIDS. He broke it off and I went to get tested, got the negative results and immediately drove to his house to throw the paper in his face. That shit followed me for a year! I had to quit my job… I never reported what happened, I just wanted to forget it happened and move on. But you can’t… It caused more issues in my relationships than you can imagine. It’s been 30 years and I can still see his face in my mind. I’ll never STOP seeing it… So to all you women (or men as the case may be), if you’re a victim of rape, SPEAK OUT! Please don’t be dumb like I was… It WILL haunt you forever if you do. People will always call you a slut, say you were asking for it no matter if you report it or not. I’m proof of that. Stand firm. Say it loud so the people in the back can hear you. DO NOT let this go unpunished! I hope one day Greece gets it through their heads that this is NOT acceptable! No means no! And those who don’t respect that need to do time whether the crime is violent like Elini or more passive as mine was. Sex offenders need to be put behind bars and karma needs to dry f**k them up the ass quite literally with a cactus. Then they’ll know what it feels like to be violated as they violated others. I hope these two get what they have coming to them. The powers that be know what they’ve done. It will come back on them. Elini’s parents should rest easy. I truly believe karma will be serving them a lovely dinner of justice… and it will be served extremely cold.

Sexual assault is the only civilian crime that I can consider as categorically unforgivable. There are reasons to justify murder such as self-defense. There are reasons to justify theft such as desperation to make ends meet. But sexual assault, there is no feasible reason to justify something so heinous, so depraved.

    • @extremecoolguyyy
      @extremecoolguyyy Рік тому +133

I actually watched a criminologist lesson and the criminologist said the same thing. He said you can justify all crimes but never sexual assault because it’s not even about sex, it’s about power, control and humiliation and as someone who was a victim of domestic violence and sexual assault, I can say that he is right and I am very angry about women being put behind bars for murdering their abusers. No matter what, even if the person is a pedophile rapist, rape is NEVER okay. It’s an act of violence that is designed to humiliate. But murder can be justified when it’s self defence or even in cases of mental illness it can be dismissed as not guilty due to mental diseases. There is never an excuse for sexual violence.
And the scary thing is, many male rapists think that all men think like them but just can’t admit it. They think all men are capable of being rapists because that’s easier to accept than the reality that they’re pieces of shit. And the worst part when I watched these lessons? You can usually profile certain criminals but sexual offenders have NO PROFILE because they are EVERYONE. That’s why you get so many people defending an abusive rapist because their friends can’t accept they are horrible monsters cause of course they would know if their friend was a rapist right?? Yeah unfortunately, almost 90% of rapists never see a jail cell. I’m all for redemption for criminals but sexual offenders? No. They deserve harsh punishment and none of that bullshit of early parole for good behaviour because time and time again they reoffend.

Never get into a stranger's car. Ever. Don't give a stranger your address. If you are going to meet someone that you don't know, arrange to meet at a public place with lots of people around, preferably during the day, get a friend to call you to check you're alright - arrange this beforehand. Another tip is to get your friend to go to the same venue and sit apart so that if you need help to get away from someone then you've got a friend in the same venue to grab hold of. To give your address to a stranger, allow them to pick you up in their car at 10pm is taking a huge risk. Anyone who asks you to do this is suspect from the beginning. Take care out there.

@@kittyshiv hi, just some thoughts... yeah for kids-- have rules in place to protect them for sure but later when they get older and for adults, strangers can be ok... that's how strangers become friends... what I mean is follow another set of rules, there is a bridge that every stranger must get through to become a friend, every stranger must be put through the paces to make sure this person is truly ok meaning practice common sense with ANY new person in your life, get to know him or her... safely... and no a few exchanges on line or on the phone does not cut it! (like in this case with this girl) you must get through a period where you truly get to know someone, the facade/mask will eventually drop and you will see the real person, who this person really is.. good and bad because the facade does eventually fade away revealing the real person, most of the time you can size someone up in minutes but there are times when it can take much longer... but basically your first order of business is to find out if this person is safe or not and this is revealed easily by motives, usually if this person has an ulterior motive, that comes to light quickly... if you ask the right questions and pay attention, both to words and actions... sorry this got very long... I've been through it before because I didn't pay close enough attention in the past... I mean on one hand you have to practice some common sense to be safe but of course on the other hand it doesn't have to take that long if you pay attention and trust your gut... your 6th sense doesn't lie but you must pay attention....

Adrien, thank you for covering this case. I’m from Greece and our cases rarely ever get exposure in foreign media, despite how shocking some of them might be.
If you’re thinking about covering another femicide from Greece, then you should look into the case of Babis Anagnostopoulos, who brutally murdered his wife Caroline, hanged his dog and tried to convince everyone that Caroline and the dog were murdered by burglars. He went as far as to place his infant daughter Lydia on top of her dead mothers body! This is truly one of the most shocking femicides in Greece.
Femicides unfortunately happen frequently here, especially since COVID-19 started, but the victims of those heinous crimes unfortunately seem get forgotten as time passes. The toxic aspects of patriarchy are deeply rooted within our society. We are raised as God fearing and are expected to show unquestionable respect to men, no matter how wrong they might be. Us women are supposed to be quiet and submissive, and if we deviate from that then we’ll be faced with a ton of backlash from not only males, but also other females who’ve been brainwashed into being misogynistic towards the same sex as them.

I believe in No mercy for evil. If I had it my way, chain gangs and hard labor would still be in effect. The Gallows would still be used. There would only be two appeals allowed within a 5 year period for Death Row inmates. Then they would be executed via the gallows. All prisoners nationwide would wear pink jumpsuits and their blankets and towels would be pink.
Whipping for punishment would still be used.
Prison is a world of its own. Prisoners have their own rules in prison. And for those who commit heinous crimes or break the rules or simply are not liked by other prisoners.. they can deal with it however they want. If that means the child molester gets attacked somehow and some type of violence is done to them so be it. Same goes with any prisoner. How they deal with issues in prison is beyond my concern. I have no care, love, empathy, anything for them.
And I believe our justice system sucks. Plea deals, time served, time off for good behavior, etc. is all BS. Our justice system needs to be ruled with an Iron Fist. Maximum sentences given in all cases. Reform does not work. It’s rare. But you make prison time absolutely nightmarish then in theory, people will not want to ever go to prison or jail again. And that means one of two outcomes: Either they obey the laws and live life according to society or should they decide to stay criminal odds are they won’t want to ever go back and that means SBC or something resulting in their death. In which case, I say good riddance.

The criminals would get dealt with either way just like now the difference being if I had it my way the punishments would be maximized.
