    I just bought a 2019 RT. Is it slower than the ScatPack and Hellcat, absolutely! Does it have a decent amount of power, does it turn heads, can you still burn the tires, and have fun flooring it on the highway without breaking the bank? Absolutely! Love my RT.

      The cool thing is it doesn't take a ton of crazy changes to give it the same performance as the 6.4 in that ScatPack either. The whole lineup is just awesome!

    The only reason it gets a bad rep and I’m bein serious here, is most of these kids nowadays dunno anything about cars. They know horsepower numbers and prices but can’t figure anything out heck you mentioning torque they dunno what torque means! The Challenger R/T is a great car. The 5.7 is great as well. Take care

      That’s why it drives me nuts seeing people roll race a 5.7 against a mustang. They negate all that down low torque that makes the 5.7 Hemis great!

      C yea it’s more of a status symbol. Bragging who has a bigger hp number.When I was younger 400hp was a lot for a street car. Still is. Now it’s like people think they need 1000 hp+. Don’t even need that much power at all.

    • @TrackPackRT
      @TrackPackRT  4 роки тому +10

      KY241HELLYEA I agree. Most of the guys modding their Hellcats and ZL1s to hit 1000hp don’t even race, it’s just for driving on the street. Even going up to highway speeds you can’t use all that power on the street. Hellcats can already go deep in the 10s, that’s damn fast. I think people forget it doesn’t have to be the fastest car on the road to be fun to drive. The torque alone that the R/Ts put down make them a blast to drive.

    I've owned my 2010 RT 7 years and I love it. Ive driven SRT 8s, still happy with my 5.7 Hemi. Shorty headers, 6.1 intake and a Diablo tuner with a Jay Green tune. Pulls hard. 5.7s a working mans Hemi

    I think what a lot of people forget is that 5.7 hemi is so much easier to work around than the 6.4 hemi and less expensive. With better cams long tube headers and tune (granted long tube headers are pretty pricey) you’re easily making more torque and HP and still being naturally aspirated. A 5.7 hemi is a real good project car.

    I owned several Challenger R/T's in the past both with the 375hp 5.7 liter engine. Both cars went from 0-60 in under 6 seconds but not by much. I think the weight car hinders it's performance. A 4000 pound car takes a lot of power to get a respectable 0-60 and quarter mile time. If you can afford to buy the Challenget R/T Scat Pack then you'll get a lot more performance from the 6.4 liter hemi (485hp).

      Track Pack R/T I don’t agree. Look at R/T life’s channel and build. A great cam and long tubes will not get you scatpack performance or numbers. You will need a stroker kit to compete NA or boost.

    • @TrackPackRT
      @TrackPackRT  4 роки тому +6

      Eager Charger the problem with R/T life’s cam is that it was a custom grind from Jay Green. That’s fine and all but anyone who gets a custom grind usually don’t know what the specs of the cam are, or the expected power improvement estimates. I’ll be sharing the results of my HRT stage 2 cam in the coming months, but comp cams is claiming it put down 471 hp on a 5.7 that only had headers and a larger throttle body. If the claims are on the money which I assume they’ve got to be close as comp cams are usually pretty trustworthy there’s a lot of 5.7s out there that will be hurting some feelings.

No one buys these cars for gas mileage but even that makes the modern R/T quite impressive. I have floored my 2020 R/T less than 10 times since buying it new. There is just no need unless racing. Many of the younger guys will poo poo my comments here, but there is fast and faster and fast enough. My opinion is the Hellcat is outrageously overpowered for the street. The SRT8 has a gas guzzler tax and increased insurance penalty associated with the slight performance improvement over the R/T. The R/T has plenty of performance for fun and could still get one in more trouble than they would care for, if not careful. The R/T delivers performance much more in tune with real world driving demands and even the SXT is plenty for many folks. I love my 2013 R/T 6 speed. I've had it 7 yrs with nary complaint.

      It is true, in a Hellcat you can barely get into it before you’re way over the speed limit. They are a ton of fun on the track though. I had two 5.7s Challenger, one was a red line edition with the 6 speed manual, the other was an automatic Shaker 5.7 (which I totaled), after buying a 2018 GT with the Performance Pack along with a used C6 vette, I'm back in a 2020 Scat pack manual. I had no issue with the 5.7, sure it was not the fastest car out there, neither is my Scat Pack, point being is they both are good cars, good engines. I'm more into the Challenger because of the styling and retro look. That 2018 GT was a good bit quicker that my 5.7, actually test faster than my Scat Pack (I don't have the 1320 package), but in all the Challengers I felt like I was in something more substantial than a GT (not hating on the GT, but is has a different feel).

    The FCA folks are not keeping up with the competition with the 5.7 Hemi in cars and Ram trucks. The cars don't have the short headers, cam, Apache heads or dual phase intakes that could easily be adapted from the 6.4 Hemi and would push the 5.7 to an easy 435 HP. The trucks are lagging behind as well and need cam, heads and exhaust manifold upgrades to compete with the Ecoboost F150s. The Ram is nicer than every other half ton truck in every regard except power. There is only one V8 engine choice currently and the 6.4 version in the 2500 series trucks sucks. The half ton truck needs an optional V8 in the 465 to 500 HP range right now. The LH cars need an all wheel drive twin turbo 3.6 Pentastar of at least 450 HP for civilian as well as law enforcement sales.

      I can agree about the 1/4 miles times seeming average , but also comparing a 5.7 to a scat pack or Hellcat is unfair. Again, if Dodge reduced the weight on these cars and made a decent rear axle ratio available, especially in the automatic cars, they would be a lot more competitive against cars in their class. The 5.7 is a more “corporate” engine than it’s larger brothers and could use more help. From what I see in various videos, this engine responds very well to a variety of aftermarket mods, and is a better choice for a daily driver than the more powerful Dodge engines. It all depends on what you’re looking for in a car, If you want to be king of the street or strip, by all means get a Hellcat or Demon, to each his own!

The 5.7 has a ton of more torque than the 3.6 but if you already have a 392 you aren’t necessarily looking for that. I’d say it comes down to a couple factors. How important is gas mileage to you? How important is sound to you? Do you need to drive this car through a winter (real winter with snow)? If you need AWD then the 3.6 is your only option. The 3.6 gets 4 mpg better city and about 7 highway better than the 5.7 so if that’s really important, that will determine what makes the most sense to you. RT can be modded to be faster than a Scat easily for the price difference really with these prices today.

    My fiancee is in sales at my local dodge dealer and a challenger is likely my next car. Been doing the R/T vs Scat Pack shuffle in my mind. The snowball effect kicks in when I check a couple option boxes and My "affordable" R\T creeps into base Scat Pack price territory. Insurance rates might win the war for the R/T though.

    • @TrackPackRT
      @TrackPackRT  4 роки тому +1

      If it makes more financial sense to get the R/T for you it’s not so bad, the 5.7 jumps up in power big time with just a few mods. You can add power when you have extra cash for some parts down the road while at the same time getting the option packages you want.

      In the long run it will cost you much more to get the same performance as a 6.4. I ditched my 5.7 for the 6.4 and was the best decision I made.

    • @TrackPackRT
      @TrackPackRT  4 роки тому +1

      Eager Charger I disagree with you on that. Lots of power to be had with not much $ spent. However there’s nothing wrong with a Scatpack or even better a Hellcat. They’re both awesome. If I had $70k sitting around I would buy one in a second!

    • @elijahwalling4894
      @elijahwalling4894 4 роки тому

      Well like I said in my area the RT is cheaper to insure. After combining the cost of insurance with the price of the vehicle A fully loaded RT ends up with a lower cost of ownership then a base model scat pack

    Anyone can claim something is "fast" it is subjective term and only applicable to how the user defines it. I have a 09 300c with just dynomax race bullets swapped out for mid mufflers on stock 245 tires and Ive ran a best of 5.53sec 0-60 in a 4500lb car is impressive to me. When i had a 05 350z base model with intake, exhaust, dyno tuned run around the same 0-60 time and or ran a 14.0 @100mph in the 1/4mile. The 5.7l eagle motors are exceptional beast for the money in terms of power and mpg given the power they have.

      AWD with the 5.7 is huge! With both of you having AWD you likely took advantage of the 1000 lbs less weight you have to make up the difference.

    No matter which way you slice it, what we have is a nice v8, but at the end of the day it's the same motor they put in their worktrucks. It's better than most cars but there are a LOT of bigger fish

    • @TrackPackRT
      @TrackPackRT  4 роки тому +1

      That always seems like such a strange thing to say about the 5.7 hemi and I've heard people say it before. Yes it's in Dodge's trucks (so is the 6.4 btw) but why does that make it not good? The 5.7 small block chevy is looked at as legendary, yet it was standard in a ton of their trucks as well. You are right there are a lot bigger fish and crazier engines out there, but if you're shopping for a Hellcat Redeye, or a ZR1 Vette or a new GT500 the R/T isn't even on your radar. What's cool about the 5.7 is it doesn't take much to make it just as fast as the 6.4 which everyone goes crazy about the performance of. No matter which Hemi you've got they all kick ass.

    • @Jaywoody21

      @@TrackPackRT I agree with the last statement, my car has mufflers deleted, and my next 2 steps are going to be fatter tires and long tubes/tune. I love my car, but from the factory (which is what most people care about) it is slow compared to performance cars, because the 5.7 is not a performance motor, it's a work truck motor. The 6.4 is from the factory meant for performance as well as the 6.2

  • @RAYomama

    Let’s be real, a 5.7 is better for everyday driving than a hell kitty or demon. Unless you live in rural road. Most of these hell kittens get sent back to nursery school by vettes with less torque anyway

    • @TrackPackRT
      @TrackPackRT  4 роки тому

      Well a 5.7 will get better gas milage for sure. One thing that shocked me about driving a Hellcat is how smooth and easy it was just to drive around town. It felt more smooth than my R/T but I partially attribute that to my car having much steeper 3.91 gears in the rear. However once you open up the throttle in that Hellcat....man what a car!

    In the grand scheme of musclecars the 5.7 R/T 375 HP blows away decades of 70s, 80s, 90s and early 2000s cars. And even as powerful as most 60s muscle cars. Only when comparing it to 2015 and up Scats, Cats, Plaids, GT500s, C8, BMW 5s etc, does it start to be considered a slower car. Enjoy the heck out of that R/T most of the people on the planet never had a car that powerful or quick.
