I would get one of these over a Tesla. Sure, the Tesla is 780 milliseconds faster to the quarter mile at 130 mph which I always like to do in a school zone. But I know that if I take it to the continental mainland and drive it in Italy or Germany, I won't die after a second high-speed slowdown as I would in a Tesla thanks to its pipecleaner-armed, 100 lb-weakling, atrophied Mini-Minor brakes. Teslas should be banned in Europe until they figure out how to engineer them properly.
That greeen thoo!!!!! At first I loved the purple interior but didn't feel quite my match, then the green was perfect, imagining it outside with some orange/blue paint 🎨 then the exterior green was perfect too
Great video as always! Lotus is majority owned by Geely and this is a high quality car that Matt is reviewing in China. Honestly, Chinese brands are making some of the best electric cars out there.
A few friends have recently received tickets for very minor speed infringements of late (34 mph, 23 mph, so easily done without meaning to), makes all this power totally irrelevant. If only we had access to private roads like you do.
Sadly all the backroads around Hethel now have these speed restrictions...The days of how fast you could get from Lotus to New Buckenham are a distant memory...😉
Not a fan of that front end design but the quality of materials, the interior, practicality and performance for that price. Off the bat this looks like it's going to be great car overall with those kinks ironed out
Its still much better than being bankrupt. Staying true to their roots didnt work well for a lot of car companies. Porsche wouldnt be here if not for the Cayenne.
@@notagain2856 Porsche used the Cayenne to make profit and keep producing 911’s and caymans/boxster. The Lotus brand car is already dead, the most “sport” lotus is now a sport car, not a lightweight analog racetrack focused road car. Looks great and has the bells and whistles without being stupid (Merc massive screens eg). As long as that steering click isn't something breaking or really is due preprod, then looks fine. The rear wheel steering sounds like character you should get used to and master.
Still not convinced on this. Looks better in person for sure, but not a single Lotus customer has EVER asked for this. Why would someone choose this over an X5, GLE, or a Range Rover? They wouldn’t. I hope it brings money in for the brand, but I can’t see it.
You don’t have to 😅 this car is meant for the Chinese market, they love it, and hope it sells well while lotus can focus on their sports car market later on 🎉

So this Eletre is a way to fill the pockets of Lotus to be able to make other sport cars like the Evija and the Emira… Lotus is just diversifying, but they still have their light weight sport cars. For my situation, this car is more suitable for me and my family than any other sport car, so I don’t care if it’s not light. For me it’s a family luxury car with a sport edge to it… So it does the job and at the same time it’s more fun to drive than other family cars!!

@josephquinto5812 Ah yes, a wealthy distinguished gentleman. I have an idea for you. What if we, as a society, stop talking about art, music, food, watches and jewelry, cars, architecture, clothing and so on. After all, those are things made to be sold and many of them, especially those falling in the luxury sector (like this ugly lotus SUV), are unobtainable for the very most of us. Sounds like a dumb idea? That's because it is.

Lotus has some really fantastic cars in their lineup right now. I hope the quality is on par!
I reckon Chapman would hate this, he’d have to make a stripped down version with nothing but the skateboard chassis and one driver seat!
“Simplify, and add lightness!”
I was about to say, all these praises in the comment section and yet Colin Chapman himself is rolling in his grave.
2.7 (oh sorry only shy of 2 for the R) tons does not a Lotus make.
Amen to that!

This is a shockingly, confusingly good effort from Lotus. It’s expensive but there are plenty of others in that price range and this looks like it may best them all. It may have an issue keeping up with demand
Looks spectacular in that silver with the red hints in the paint, but my gut continues to tell me that green is the way to go (but not with the green interior; that's a little too much green for me).
I have one of the first 4 of these coming to South Florida on reserve. Really looking forward to seeing what reviewers think of the final production model and I can't wait for it to hit the US next year. But more than that, I look forward to finally sitting in the car I will have waited some 2 years to have. Until then, back to saving my pennies. Go Lotus, go! 🚀🚀
Agree.
I think you will be getting an incredible car! Nice!
It's an awesome car
Love the design, and the interior is brilliant
Lotus is majority owned by Geely and this is a high quality car that Matt is reviewing in China. Honestly, Chinese brands are making some of the best electric cars out there.
A few friends have recently received tickets for very minor speed infringements of late (34 mph, 23 mph, so easily done without meaning to), makes all this power totally irrelevant. If only we had access to private roads like you do.
Sadly all the backroads around Hethel now have these speed restrictions...The days of how fast you could get from Lotus to New Buckenham are a distant memory...😉
Amazing car, best in class. It’s Lotus in name only though, all Geely
More like inputs from various brands under Geely like Volvo, Lynk&co and Polestar. Chassis tuning still all done by Lotus
Not a fan of that front end design but the quality of materials, the interior, practicality and performance for that price. Off the bat this looks like it's going to be great car overall with those kinks ironed out
A lotus suv? What next? A Caterham minivan? 😁
entire thing is just a tube frame with some seats in it lmao
Lotus is really making moves. 👏👏👏
As an old school lotus Elise owner with high bias towards ICE. Must say this is very appealing as an EV SUV. Well done
“Simplify then add lightness” Colin Chapman would be horrified by this.
It’a a good SUV but is not worthy at all of the Lotus brand.
A sport car (emira) that is already annouced to die, since the brand will go fully electric.
So if lotus won’t use profit to keep producing Elise, Exige, Evora and not even the Emira, this is just brand exploitation.
Wrong and dumb.
