- Mat’s finally got his hands on the Lotus Eletre!
The Eletre is the first Lotus SUV ever created, and Mat’s about to find out if this all-electric Lotus has what it takes to compete with EV competitors like the Tesla Model X Plaid!
For starters, let’s check out the looks. From the front end, there’s a sloping bonnet and a whole host of vents, and if anything it reminds us a bit of the Lamborghini Urus! However, unlike the Urus, every vent you can see on this car serves a purpose - there’s no fakery here! Moving down the side you’ll note there are black surrounds around the windows and on the side mirrors, and around the back, there’s a pair of small spoilers, a bootlip spoiler and a few more vents to help improve efficiency.
Step inside and the good looks continue! The interior has a sporty feel to it, with high-quality materials found throughout the cabin. There are a number of physical switches which feel pretty sturdy, and even the smallest areas or buttons are made to feel expensive. What’s more, there’s a choice of three screens - a small digital dial display for the driver, a huge infotainment screen, and then a small screen for the passenger to use.
The quality continues through to the back seats, too, where there’s the option to add two sports seats similar to what you’ll find in the front! These can also be electrically operated.
There will be two versions of the Eletre on sale, and both come with dual motors and a 112kWh battery. The entry-level Eletre & Eletre S can produce 603hp, while the range-topping Eletre R can produce 905hp! What’s more, the R should be able to hit 60mph in under 3 seconds! When it comes to price, the Eletre starts from £89,500, rising up to £120,000 for the R edition.
But is it worth it? And should you choose it over the likes of a Tesla Model X Plaid? Stick with Mat and see for yourself!

That interior is how it should be done. Physical buttons where they should be, a good screen, quality interior, and the interior design definitely the best from all the EV's ive seen. Putting this car on my short list to purchase.
The colours are terrible though...
Check out Nio or Zeekr SUVs. Fisker and Rivian both have great designs as well.
A Lotus with a Bentley interior! That's just Class!!!
looks like it was designed by a 7 year old girl.
@@stevehartley7504 it’s a Wuhan made car. It’ll fall off or spontaneously combust in the first two years after purchase. It’s not a Lotus. Glitzy, looks great, but not actually that great. The only think so insanely durable and long lasting coming out of Wuhan is the wuhan virus.
For me this car smashes the competition. What a great car. Attention to detail is amazing!
As an owner of KEF speakers and knowing how amazing they sound in the home, can only imagine just how substantial the sound is in the car with that setup. Really nice and modern design to the cabin too.
I mean, for this kind of money, it far exceeds other SUV in the current market, I really like it personally. If I had the opportunity to acquire this one, I'd do it in a heartbeat
Tesla x is cheaper, more seats and higher performance.
@@thesaifcreations9111 its not higher in performance,it is just quicker, lotus far exceeds in performance everywhere else, also lotus has better driving dynamics, better interior better looks and more heritage

This performance combined with that much space and that high built quality is just awesome.
I've seen one on the road for a test drive and it looks very special and insane.
Lotus delivered although so many ppl cried about them building another SUV
Love the UI on the center screen! REALLY NICE!
2.99 second 0-60 is crazy to get your mind wrapped around despite how heavy this is. I wonder what its drag coefficient is???
It’s as fast as a super bike can get to 60 due to physics of the front lifting. 3 flat is very fast. Actually most riders on super bikes do quarter mile in around same time as this truck does. Sure a pro will do mid 9s but damn. Fast
And yet the plaid model x is even faster and has been available for 2 years now. Plus it can seat 6 or 7 adults. 😎

The new bmw xm's have ugly squared wheel arches.
The new dacia and skoda both have the same new trend of squaring up the wheel arches.

@@martinqizeaq maybe a Ferrari made by Toyota. Or Citroen.
@Noel 718 The interior is another copy of the Tesla Model 3 interior.
The best electric SUV and all-round electric car I've seen so far. Competition is heating up. I also love the fact that Lotus also included shortcut physical buttons to things like climate control. Just shows that Lotus is listening to the general preference out there in regard to physical buttons vs having that in touch screens/software.
That greeen thoo!!!!! At first I loved the purple interior but didn't feel quite my match, then the green was perfect, imagining it outside with some orange/blue paint 🎨 then the exterior green was perfect too
Never been into electric cars too much, but this one is very nice - lots of very good features, nice build, nice space. I like it!
The same reason why I like Holden HSV Supercharged V8s is the same reason why I like Pure Electric Cars. The reasons why I hate some ICE cars especially 4 Bangers is the same reason why I hate the 100% Petrol powered Toyota Prius. @@Neojhun Ren Hazuki, one of the characters from Liella also loves electric cars like this Lotus Eletre.
I raised an eyebrow the first time this car came up but, damn, it seems Lotus absolutely nailed it from every reasonable perspective. Also mad props to the interior.
It’s definitely practical and luxurious, I like that but not the materials or the colours👎👎.
@@SwiftTelly20 you surely have more settled colors

It depends on how the car is designed really. For an angler car it can work just fine.
Lotus absolutely nailed it? Its a badging exercise. Even Mat is standing outside the chinese factory!
I loved the interior of that car, and with that kind of speed I expected the price tag to be twice as much. Of course I'll never have one until it's half that price. I hope it's reliable though, all those little things messing up a bit makes me think reliability will be a concern. However, lotus has always been great Fun to drive
Lotus has some really fantastic cars in their lineup right now. I hope the quality is on par!
So its a well build, practical Lotus SUV!? Sounded strange when it was shown the first time, but now seems REALLY good! But how can you so easily gloss over the 60W USB-C charger in the back? That's so amazing to finally see, so one can actually charge a Laptop in the back without any annoying dongle or adapter!
Yes, i noticed that rare feature too

One of your best reviews. Awesome content
Nice to see an electric Lotus!! Good to see how good it looks, great to tell what things are really like!! The question is if it’s a true Lotus!!
I`ve driven the final production version on the public road for like 100km and it is ASTONISHING. Besides it has plenty plenty plenty of power (which is the least important feature of Eletre), the ride quality, the quietness, the brake feeling, all are TOP. Especially the NVH control, just AMAZING. I would say the noise number is around W223 level, if you`ve driven one, you would totally agree with me. It`s like combined with the luxury of S-Klasse and the handling of M5. There is a common problem for EV which is the braking pedal feeling. In the most EVs it feels soft, unsolid, hard to control it precisly. but it is NOT a problem in Eletre. No doubt it`s the BEST brake I`ve ever had in a EV, and it`s better than the most normal ICE cars.
I seriously started to replace my W222 with this one in the upcoming months. Brilliant design, it looks gorgeous.

Great review Mat 👏👏
One thing though, i think the side camera can be hidden inside the side vent instead of exposing it as is now!!
Poor old Colin Chapman must be spinning in his grave faster than the electric motors in this. He was all about lightness and agility and this while being very fast is 2700kg and Big. The brakes and tires may be coping admirably but you can't get away from the laws of physics.
With the badges around the car proclaiming Chapman's heritage because NYO has none, you would have thought that Lotus of all people (or the Chinese owners Geely) would have brought us a lightweight performance EV but they seem to have fallen into the same trap and just made another massive, expensive SUV. So in this case, the fruit has fallen a very long way from the tree and probably rolled several fields away. Looks and seems to perform great but should it really be wearing a Lotus badge?
Perfectly put! The thing is hideous, too!
As Mat said, this is just like the Porsche Cayenne. The Cayenne saved Porsche from bankruptcy. So this Eletre is a way to fill the pockets of Lotus to be able to make other sport cars like the Evija and the Emira… Lotus is just diversifying, but they still have their light weight sport cars. For my situation, this car is more suitable for me and my family than any other sport car, so I don’t care if it’s not light. For me it’s a family luxury car with a sport edge to it… So it does the job and at the same time it’s more fun to drive than other family cars!!
@@msm4445 Lotus said the Emira would be the last car with ICE. :(
yet another big heavy suv that takes loads of energy to move from a to b...
@@fernetcetc buy a dacia, it’s cheaper, consumes less and does the job. This is a luxury sport vehicle, so yes it’s heavy, and yes it consumes, but people don’t buy it for its efficiency !!

I would get one of these over a Tesla. Sure, the Tesla is 780 milliseconds faster to the quarter mile at 130 mph which I always like to do in a school zone. But I know that if I take it to the continental mainland and drive it in Italy or Germany, I won't die after a second high-speed slowdown as I would in a Tesla thanks to its pipecleaner-armed, 100 lb-weakling, atrophied Mini-Minor brakes. Teslas should be banned in Europe until they figure out how to engineer them properly.
The fact that it is based on the same platform and tech used in Volvo's EX90 and Polestar 3 makes it really interesting how same base can be modified into completely different cars.
You said that Volvo Polestar uses Geely's sub-brand zeekr and other new-energy electric vehicle technologies and platforms.
