It’s time for an almighty petrol vs electric drag race!
We’ve finally got our hands on the all-new, all-electric Lotus Eletre R, and it’s about to face off against Yianni’s Lamborghini Urus Performante!
So let’s check out the stats. Starting with the Lotus, two electric motors power it, and these combine to produce an incredible 905hp and 985Nm of torque! Power is sent to all four wheels, and this almighty EV tips the scales at 2,640kg! It’s pretty pricey though, rolling up with a starting price of £120,000.
But that starting price is nothing compared to the Lambo, which rolls up with a starting price of £209,000! Under the bonnet, you’ll find a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 which can put down 666hp. It’s a fair bit lighter than the Lotus, weighing in at 2,150kg.

@@fakamada The difference with MG is nobody except car enthusiasts remember MG - they were out of production for 20 years, and in most markets, you couldn't even buy one for the last 40 years, and they had been junk for longer than that. Also the Chinese MG's are actually really good value for money. Lotus is a performance icon, now Geeley has bought it so they can use it to sell overpriced & under-developed Chinese junk to western idiots. Pretty clear from how messed up this car was the entire way through the racing that it is based on a Geeley platform and Geeley electronics that aren't suitable for a performance car.
Good for them if it works though - a fool and their money as they say.

It's not a Lambo, it's a fancy Audi with Lambo badges on it. Also, the Lotus is not a Lotus, it's a fancy Geeley with Lotus badges on it. You'd have to be f*ck*ng mad to spend 6 figures on either of these two turkeys.

That "Off means off" thing is legit cool, Lotus is actually honest and sticks with the definition of "Off", not trying to make the driver feel like a hero even though they didn't possess enough skill to handle 900 hp.
100% agree, you've asked for it off so you're having it off instead of "off". Get what you ask for, nothing different!
all well and good saying that - but its not like it's got a differential, so how would you have 100% off behave? Equal power to both back wheels all the time? throttle input mapping is still going to be regulated, so in essence there's no such thing as 'off'. Being unstable in a straight line with little feedback doesn't sound like a bonus to me
And now we see why it makes sense for this kind of car never to let you take full control. A big 900 SUV will be bought by a twat who will then turn the systems off to launch it in the middle of the city on traffic light and we see how the car behaves with systems off. It's just not good for a 900 EV and I wouldn't trust anyone with it.

@dj1nnie makes me appreciate my W204 C63. 1600kg and it has 4 doors and a 6.2L v8. But no turbos, no electric motors / batteries, and guess what? Doesn't need them! And sounds amazing. Will never ever sell it. My daily driver and maintenance cost is basically zero. Fuel economy isn't great in traffic but highway economy is actually pretty good!

I don't even understand how "off means off" for traction control works in an EV. Does that mean mashing the accelerator just sends full current and voltage to the motors? That's completely mental.
no, it's just stability program off. So no braking when you spin out. With stability on, you get some braking on the sides to get you in track. Would you send full power to all motors on a slippy street you would have wheelspin all over the track.
Well atleast that mode is honest then
