- The 2024 Lotus Eletre R (~$150,000) is a brand new fully electric SUV, with 905 horsepower and an estimated range of 600 km / 373 miles. It has a claimed 0-100 kmh time of just under 3 seconds and a 266 kmh / 165 mph top speed, which has Lotus boasting the Eletre R as the World’s fastest dual-motor SUV. But despite this speed it still weighs a considerable amount - especially when compared to any other Lotus in existence. i don't really get it. why is it such an issue when a tradional sportscar manufacturer creates a non-sportscar? i guess it kinda takes away some meaning or value from what a porsche or a lotus is, but it doesn't take anything away from all the other sportscar that they have put out or will put out in the future.

What makes you guys hands down the best car channel on UA-cam is how genuinely funny you both are, cool cars are supposed to be fun and enjoyed I’ll never understand why other people want to take that fun out of cars by giving serious and stuffy reviews

@@Southghost5997Matt Farrah gave a serious, controversial, and political review that has a lot of people talking. I can’t think of anyone other example honestly. Almost all reviewers are more technical than these guys, maybe that’s what they mean.
I can't think of anything further from "simplify and add lightness" than an electric luxury "hyper" suv.
Hopefully this exists so they can use the sales to prop up the cars they want to make, and not because some investor got greedy and decided it was time to cannibalize the brand for a big payout.
This is what Geely does - they buy up recognised names and the churn out crappy Chinese EV's to sell to rich stupid Westerners.
Lotus is pretty much on the brink of bankruptcy. Anyone who invests in Lotus now is actually saving it, making EV or not.
Guess loads of Lotus and/or Volvo fanboys down-voted my comment pointing out that they are both Chinese owned companies now, and all their EV only models are built in China based on Chinese designed & engineered platforms. Truth hurts I guess.
@@shuangzhou8445 I think the point is, it's not really Lotus if Lotus had almost nothing to do with its design and engineering, and they build it in China in a Geely factory and slap a Lotus badge on it.
@@Beer_Dad1975Well the lotus part. Or shall I say the lotus gene comes in the tuning of handling characteristics and chassis dynamics. I test drove it back in China, it is extremely well balanced, and handles better than some of the smaller and lighter competitors, without any loss of the comfort that people expect out of a luxury family SUV. The spirit of down sizing and adding lightness still holds true in that particular manner. After all, some start up can use the best possible parts for suspension and still mess up the tuning due to simply lack of engineers who understand motor sports. (The one I test drove back in Shanghai was tri-motor, and a 4 seater) It is a phenomenal car, in a sense that if you have some background knowledge about various brands and actually love driving; you feel the story flow through your blood when you floor it and carve it hard down a race track.

Y'all's review of the GT350 helped me to decide with absolute confidence to get one a few years ago when you did the M2 shootout. When I was getting a Volvo, at the dealership our sales guy had an M2, and we swapped keys and went for a drive in eachothers cars! It was a hoot, but all of the other employees were saying my Orange Fury Gt350 was "the cool car" compared to his Teal M2 competition. I agree to this day! Thanks for making these hilarious and fun car videos!

Lotus left us drooling over the Elise and Esprit back in the day but this thing is a monstrosity that resembles 4 different cars molded together to create one personality less meh-mobile .

304 mile WLTP range is pathetic. That is probably equal to about 220 mile real world warm weather range. Cold weather range will be atrocious.
This one is for making money and selling in larger volume, the other sport cars are for the niche market for car enthusiasts

Well - that’s my first time I have ever taken the time to watch an EV review in my life. You were informative and entertaining as usual and you made it bearable. I have a deposit on an Emira as well but no interest in the EV - if I had the $190k it would not be spent on an EV - but a car of my dreams instead - probably used. I can only hope an alternate green technology that is more interesting and lighter comes along very soon. Thanks guys.

Love your guys work and as a Brit think the humour is on par with comedy required to keep us from getting to move away from the show. One thing you should closely look into and possibly revisit about the Lotus is the shocking fact that the range is actually very bad to what it calms. I’m here in Hangzhou China and had the car to test for 2 weeks and found the figures displayed within the GUI were all over the place and consistently jumped around. So range anxiety its a major factor and surprised me considering the high price of the car. Lotus really needs to address this is as a plethora of cheaper cars give me true range figures when using the car on a daily drive. It’s not a small issue and buyers should be aware and not be swayed by the many other plus points that the car delivers but the GUi is absolutely shocking and needs an updated now, as you’re paying so much money for an elite SUV. Keep going guys you’re hilarious and I love your channel, a comment from you would be appreciated.

They have luxurious 2 and 3 row ev suvs and even sporty ones sure.
But this is definetely one for the premium ev segment and that lotus badge(despite geely&China ownership plus tech. Still means something to some people. I mean people didn't stop buying jags, Porsches n lambos when Ford owned jaguar, vag bought out Porsche and lambo right.
Imo this will sell quite well for lotus/geely. I bet just 3-5,000 units sold annually would make them very happy!

Okay I have to say you guy are in my top 4 favorite channels. The other 3 are Hoovies Garage, Naugtistyles and Diane, can't remember her last name, but she's from Ireland. All of you guys generally make me happy when I'm watching.
With that said, no matter how amazing this Lotus SUV I will never buy one just for the one fact it is made in China. Just keeping it 💯.
For $150K US I think Lotus can do more than 304 miles of EV range. In the meantime, they deserve credit for taking risks and developing this in the first place.
They used their new Chinese owner cash but what will happens when it dries out.... probably as ever, they will be broke.
Taking risks??? An overweight 'sporty' SUV is about as risk averse as it gets nowadays.
The extremely high charging speeds solves that, it makes charging stops very tolerable.
High HP gasoline cars also mean low range, please keep that in mind.
What's the point in over 300 miles of range? Just charge the car at night; nobody who owns a $150k car only has one vehicle if they needed to go on a out of state road trip or something.

They're delivering in Europe right now (not in the Americas until next fall/winter), so we'll see over the next several months how the vehicle fairs in software updates and early reliability. Could be a stinker, could be problem-free.
