Mario Party 9 made wrist-cutting look like a good time passer. It was the last one I’ve played since 2012. Mario Party 8 felt weird and like they were taking it a different direction, but was still somewhat enjoyable
My favorite Mario Party games are hands-down DS and Superstars. What with DS having the best single-player in the series with a story mode that actually has full-on boss battles, and Superstars being basically a greatest hits compilation that doesn’t suck like The Top 100 *and* has online play right out of the gate that’s actually surprisingly amazing for how hectic and demanding Mario Party can usually be. I’m glad it got as high as #2, with my only real sticking point being that it never got updated to add new boards (since it only has 4, which’s my only real sticking point with the game) or even minigames. It’s crazy how in the era where Nintendo adds post-launch content to every Mario spin-off (mostly to their detriment due to the base game feeling very light on content), both Mario Party’s have gotten basically little if any DLC.
I'm a little disappointed with where 7 and 8 ended up, but that's completely made up by what you made your number one. I couldn't agree more with that choice!
I grew up with Mario Party 2 and loved it. It’s still #1 still for me out of all Mario Party games. If Nintendo actually added more content like characters, maps, mini games to Mario Party Superstars….then it would jump to #1.
8:00 After TRG's recent playthrough of Mario Party DS, I can say that it's almost a good game, but they actually made a bit of a bad design in the boards, and it's actually on a mechanical level, not something people would usually notice. There is a REALLY bad design choice in this game of making it impossible to directly slow down another player. If someone gets massively ahead, there's nothing you can do to stop them without good luck. All the ability you have to sabotage are in items placed on the ground, which means you're relying on a die roll to land them there. Duel spaces aren't a thing until the final five turns. And if someone has a massive head start, then obviously, they're the ones getting all the luck. Oh, and this game has hidden minus star blocks, in the same game where you can buy an item to give you an automatic star block.
Yeah but people getting ahead in Mario Party DS is because they are better than you. Saying you need luck to catch up shows how great of a game it truly was. I played Super Mario Party once and threw it in the trash from how awful and luck based it was
@@Digger-Nick Have you watched the TRG playthrough of Mario Party DS? The amount of times Jon got screwed over because of people landing on spaces that screwed him over (such as the triple star steals, the star block hex, or Ztar on top of star loss) kind of unbalances it.
14:12 why in the world did they add Tug of War to All Stars? That minigame isn’t a fun throwback to a simpler time. It’s a mistake that physically hurt people tangibly cost Nintendo money.
Me, my brother, and his best friend are like the 3 fans of Mario Party 9 that exist. Personally, I really liked Mario Party 9. It's different, yes, VERY different, like, a completely different formula kind of different, but if you see it as it's own thing rather than "another Mario party" then you'll have a really fun time. MP9 was actually my first Mario Party and the last Wii game I got before getting my Wii U, so I have a not of nostalgia for it and didn't have the bias of earlier games to base my opinions on. No chance time, no stars, no coins, and everyone moving at once isn't a big deal if you never played a Mario Party game before. Collecting mini stars is just as fun and possibly far more balanced then getting stars, yet far more chaotic at the same time? IMO mini stars I feel like embody the whole "lots of luck, bit of skill" mentality Mario Party is going for. Heck, most board games are exactly that way, and that seems to be and the feel of board games is usually what Mario Party aims for. But I understand why people don't like it as it's different and not for everyone. However, it must be said that MP9 has some of the most content of any MP game with 12 boards and 120 mini games, some of the most of any game. It also had some of the best mini games in the series and extremely fun boss mini games. (which never returned for some reason?) So many people ignore these facts and often put games with far less content above MP9 just because MP9 is different. Honestly I STRONGLY disagree with this list. Super Mario Party should not be as high as it is. The game is insanely unbalanced with Bowser and Rosalina being far too OP and only has 4 boards. Creating character differences was a mistake especially when some characters are objectively far better than others. They really shouldn't have focused on adding like 4 extra gameplay modes instead of focusing on the main game. That's ND Cube's biggest problem in developing these games, too many modes instead of focusing on the "main mode." Star Rush and Mario Party 10 also suffered from this. I agree with Advance, E, and Mario Party 10 being at the bottom. But there is NO WAY Mario Party 9 should be below Top 100, Super, and Star Rush. It is way better than people give it credit for. Island Tour also really wasn't that bad. I liked each board having some sort of unique gimmick and the "old maid" board was unbelievably fun when playing with friends. It ALSO had the download play option so only one person needed the game to play with friends, which was honestly genius for a handheld Mario Party, which you ignored just so you could put it lower. Star Rush was far worse for having too many modes and not a single one being traditional Mario Party OR the new style introduced in MP9. The GameCube games were also rated way too low just because they included microphone mini games, which like Island Tour you can completely take out of rotation in the settings. Overall this list is bad and I strongly disagree with it. Mario Party 9 isn't that bad guys, it's actually really fun once you get past the gameplay change.
Tbh I see what you mean, I’ve never played MP9 before, but I’ve watched playthroughs of it and based on those, I feel like I could have a fun time with that game.
Mario party two is pretty overrated in my opinion. Holding only one item is what really brings it down for me. I think Mario party is most fun when you can use an item almost every turn. (Which is why in my Minecraft Mario Party clone, Super Voxel Party, we turned the items up to 11). My personal favorites are six, seven, and three
Haven't yet played most of the games, but of the two I have played, 6 is MILES better than 8. The best part of the day night cycle in my opinion is when it turns 3 of the minigames upside down: In What Goes Up..., you have to jump the highest in the daytime, but fall the fastest at night. In Conveyor Bolt, you have one player riding the cloud car and the other 3 on the conveyor belt during the day, while it's 3 cloud cars and 1 on the conveyor belt at night. And in Mole-It!, the pipes are at the top during the day and on the bottom at night.
You know it's bad when mario party 9 and 10, the one who traps people in a single car to the point there's like next to no competition, is still outclassed in terms of awful by mario party advance and e. Like how does one destroy the actual mechanics and still be considered 3rd and 4th place
I remember playing Mario Party Advance as a kid and having no idea what I was doing. Eventually I traded it with a friend for Sonic Advance 2 (I had 3, but not 2), and it was probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made lol.
Mario Party 1 was the first video game I ever owned! I have a special place in my heart for 1-7 because I played all of them A LOT growing up just alternating between them as they released. I played 8 a little bit and liked it but I don't think I ever owned it personally. I've never played 9 or 10 because the "everyone moves as a unit" concept never interested me. Super was actually really great and I LOVE the character-specific dice block / ally concepts that set the game apart in a good way (as opposed to 9 and 10's new concepts). Superstars was really great just for nostalgic value and I currently still play it with my friends.
This is a pretty good list, personally I would put 8 at least above Mario Party 1 though. Also, I would have Mario Party 3 at least number two because I'm constantly going between 2 and 3 as my favorite Mario Party.
Im sad mario party 9 is not as liked. It was the first (and my favourite) mario party. I loved the game modes and minigames. I didn’t do much of the classic tho.
Why is superstars so high. Theres only five boards and most of them are bad, only 8 characters, and no unlockables. Not to mention it’s so easy due to the lack of negative spaces and the ability to buy gold pipes for incredibly cheap on almost every map.
Hot take, but I think 9 (and 10, to an extent) gets way too much heat It's the first numbered MP game made in-house, and the car mechanic isn't inherently *bad,* it's just objectively not the experience everyone grew up on... I do think there was missed potential when it comes to how it can be handled in terms of items - which were outright replaced by dice - but the minigame collection overall was arguably one of the best, and it's single player acting as an online coop was actually really clever. this is coming from someone who grew up on 9 *and 8,* mostly playing the latter of the two, due to accidentally nicking the 9 disc (lol)
superstars is a very good mp. but for a mp mashup, it needs more than 5 boards. hoping they add more with dlc or just being able to buy boards in the shop with game currency (very doubtful for that though) and maybe more mini games. currently been playing mp7 and having a ton of fun tryna get mp6 next
I actually enjoyed Mario Party Advance. It's a terrible party game being single-player only but the mini-games and campaign style board game is actually really fun!
I feel like one weakness people never bring up with MP6 and 7 is that they have two few „normal“ boards since most of the boards have gimmicks like stealing stars with chain chomps, all the stars being in one place or the map being a straight line. Those are fun of course but if you wanna play a normal round of Mario Party those games give you only a one or two boards to choose from
The first game should NOT be in the upper half of this list. Any game that legitimately causes injury should be banished to the bottom. Can't believe Nintendo brought stick spinning minigames back despite that.
I think.. And hope, it's up that far just because it really CREATEd a genre. It's the same reason the original in a lot of series are up towards the top of many lists despite there being improvements
Except it didn't lol, unless maybe you were being a total maniac about it. This reads like the comment of somebody who has never actually played the game themselves but only read about the famous glove story online. Let me just tell you: I played countless rounds of Mario Party 1 with my friends back then. NONE of us EVER suffered any injuries from the stick-spinning games. The whole thing got totally blown out of proportion.
My favorite Mario Party is 7. I just leave the mic games off and its really fun, with all different types of boards, whatever you are in the mood for. I would probably place them 7 then 2 then Superstars. My least favorite I played was Island Tour. I have played all the 3DS ones, havent played any of the GBA ones.
I don't know how Mario Party 2 made the top of this list. I have my love of all the Mario Party games (9,10 and advance aside) and doubt I could list them but Mario Party 2 is probably the one of the ones I thought gave the series an identity but it was refined from that. Yes I miss the costumes and story for each board but only 1 item at a time and having to watch every minigames for the CPU's was a mistake. I'm not sure what I would make the top one but 2 wouldn't be it by a long shot.
My Mario Party rank: 17: Mario Party -e 16: Mario Party Island Tour 15: Mario Party: The Top 100 14: Mario Party 13: Mario Party 2 12: Mario Party Advance 11: Mario Party DS 10: Mario Party 4 9: Mario Party 5 8: Mario Party Superstars 7: Mario Party 3 6: Mario Party 8 5: Mario Party 6 and 7 4: Mario Party 9 3: Mario Party 10 2: Super Mario Party 1: Mario Party Star Rush (I Like All Mario Partys)
What? Why is Mario Party 8 so low? You actually have some inspiration in the boards (rather than just find toad, give him money for stars, instead you pay money to move faster along a super long track, or invest in hotels or other cool variants on the core idea), and the minigames were fine. It deserves to be above Mario Party 1 at least, with the uneditable hand destroying minigames. A slightly wonky Wii control didn't damage my hands, thank you.
MP7 got done dirty. The mic wasn’t even that bad and could easily be turned off to let you play all those games with buttons on the controller in the options. 7 has one of the best mini games collections of the franchise easily, and the orb system was absolutely perfected with that game too. Not to mention it has amazing boards. Everyone creams their pants talking about the real estate bird in 8 but that exact board mechanic started in 7 with windmill village. Then you have fun solo content with a solid story mode and things like the expedition river etc and EIGHT PLAYER MINIGAMES?! Nah bro 7 stomps almost every other game in this franchise easily, it’s really only topped by 6.
MP7 has 70ish minigames that don't use the microphone and you can turn those mini games off. Don't waffle and actually play the games again if the only thing you remember is 10 minigames from the game.
Mario party 9 is amazing, the boards are awesome and the minigames are amazing, the only minus is the car, but i still think they did the car idea right.
Mario Party 8 is SO creative and fun, I've never had a problem with the motion controls. But HOW is the new one ranked so high, its SO BLAND! Theres only like, 4 small boards and they all feel the same, devoid of creativity or fun events. Super Mario Party is on par with 9 at being so terrible
It's nice to see someone not hating Super Mario Party. While flawed, it's still solid especially after they fixed the online multiplayer and I'd love to see another game like this but tweak some of the problems it has. Also, amazing playable character roster, I say it's the best when it comes to that. Bowser should be playable from now on and just have Kamek take over his role and pester the players.
I still can’t believe Superstars only brought back five boards. I truly believe if they just gave us nine board, three from each game, we would have had the perfect Mario Party game and no other game would ever pass it.
I'm going to be honest, I think MP2 is far from the best. I don't know, since most of the mini games comes from MP1, i just get this feeling that the game is lazy and i just can't bring myself to love it for that. The board aren't the best in the series either. I prefer MP6's boards
yeah..I found that part weird... i think theres a hate boner towards 7 for him. 6/7 are easily the best gamecube mps, and for ALOT of people that i've heard, even have 7 as their top 3 or 1. Found it odd he put it so low
DS is easily nr. 1 in my book. Portability and DS Download play alone puts it above any home-console game, and it actually being good (even in Single Player!) solidifies it as the winner. Switch Games also get some points, but Super Mario Party is horribly balanced and rather lame. Superstars is really the only contender to DS imo. It's overall great, and portable - albeit not as portable as DS. DS does have the better theme, Single Player and side-games, though. It also uses the DS-features, while Superstars just sticks to the good ol', boring, regular stick and buttons controls. Still good tho', but DS is superior in my opinion. Although these days, Superstars probably wins since not everyone has a DS anymore. But judging by the times when they were released, DS reigns supreme imo
The 3DS probably had the worst games. Island Tour was mediocre. Top 100 was god awful and Star Rush was decent at best. Also I disagree with 8 being so low. It wasn’t the best game, but it is underrated
Don't you think its a bit unfair to rank mario party 7 so low because of the mic minigames. Those minigames are completely optional and are not required to play the game one bit. And you never really brought up the minigames or boards for that game?

I'm a little disappointed with where 7 and 8 ended up, but that's completely made up by what you made your number one. I couldn't agree more with that choice!
I grew up with Mario Party 2 and loved it. It’s still #1 still for me out of all Mario Party games. If Nintendo actually added more content like characters, maps, mini games to Mario Party Superstars….then it would jump to #1.
As someone who played Mario Party 9 their whole childhood, this rating list just doesn't match me.
i agree with you😭
Same, it's still one of my favorites, I'd say it has some of the best minigames and music in the series
Same here man, same here
8:00 After TRG's recent playthrough of Mario Party DS, I can say that it's almost a good game, but they actually made a bit of a bad design in the boards, and it's actually on a mechanical level, not something people would usually notice.
That was my first game, and unlike other games it really is its own thing
Mario party two is pretty overrated in my opinion. Holding only one item is what really brings it down for me. I think Mario party is most fun when you can use an item almost every turn. (Which is why in my Minecraft Mario Party clone, Super Voxel Party, we turned the items up to 11). My personal favorites are six, seven, and three
Haven't yet played most of the games, but of the two I have played, 6 is MILES better than 8. The best part of the day night cycle in my opinion is when it turns 3 of the minigames upside down:
In What Goes Up..., you have to jump the highest in the daytime, but fall the fastest at night. In Conveyor Bolt, you have one player riding the cloud car and the other 3 on the conveyor belt during the day, while it's 3 cloud cars and 1 on the conveyor belt at night. And in Mole-It!, the pipes are at the top during the day and on the bottom at night.
Out of all the Mario Parties I've played, (1, 2, 8, 9, 10, Island Tour, Star Rush, DS, and Superstars) Superstars is by far my favorite.
Mario Party DS should've been higher tbh
I like how he got through every Mario party I’ve played and had just started the top 10
You know it's bad when mario party 9 and 10, the one who traps people in a single car to the point there's like next to no competition, is still outclassed in terms of awful by mario party advance and e.
Like how does one destroy the actual mechanics and still be considered 3rd and 4th place
9 is overhated. Seriously, the issue was how 10 dumbed down the mechanics
I remember playing Mario Party Advance as a kid and having no idea what I was doing. Eventually I traded it with a friend for Sonic Advance 2 (I had 3, but not 2), and it was probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made lol.
i would not do that lol
Mario Party 1 was the first video game I ever owned! I have a special place in my heart for 1-7 because I played all of them A LOT growing up just alternating between them as they released. I played 8 a little bit and liked it but I don't think I ever owned it personally. I've never played 9 or 10 because the "everyone moves as a unit" concept never interested me. Super was actually really great and I LOVE the character-specific dice block / ally concepts that set the game apart in a good way (as opposed to 9 and 10's new concepts). Superstars was really great just for nostalgic value and I currently still play it with my friends.
Mario Party 1 absolutely doesn't deserve to be above DS, 7 and 8 like what
I really liked 7, but mostly cause Dry Bones and Boo had a busted special item I loved.
Once again MP7 is too low on most people’s lists. You can literally just play MP7 without the mic lmao and enjoy that way
Agreed but it's worth mentioning
I hope Mario Party 13 will have a theme of "bad luck". Could be a cool gimmick!
That's just Mario Party 1
Considering Superstars is more of a celebration, I believe 12 will be our next game.
This is a pretty good list, personally I would put 8 at least above Mario Party 1 though. Also, I would have Mario Party 3 at least number two because I'm constantly going between 2 and 3 as my favorite Mario Party.
I always loved 8 as a kid tbh so that hurt a little
I'm with ya on that but 2 is my second and 3 is my number one.
Im sad mario party 9 is not as liked. It was the first (and my favourite) mario party. I loved the game modes and minigames. I didn’t do much of the classic tho.
Its hated mostly because its different. Its a great game though
My childhood games were 8, 9, and DS. And they are my personal favorites along with Superstars.
Why is superstars so high. Theres only five boards and most of them are bad, only 8 characters, and no unlockables. Not to mention it’s so easy due to the lack of negative spaces and the ability to buy gold pipes for incredibly cheap on almost every map.
Hot take, but I think 9 (and 10, to an extent) gets way too much heat
It's the first numbered MP game made in-house, and the car mechanic isn't inherently *bad,* it's just objectively not the experience everyone grew up on...
I had a feeling Mario Party 2 was going to be #1. My man.
superstars is a very good mp. but for a mp mashup, it needs more than 5 boards. hoping they add more with dlc or just being able to buy boards in the shop with game currency (very doubtful for that though) and maybe more mini games. currently been playing mp7 and having a ton of fun tryna get mp6 next
I actually enjoyed Mario Party Advance. It's a terrible party game being single-player only but the mini-games and campaign style board game is actually really fun!
Me too
I feel like one weakness people never bring up with MP6 and 7 is that they have two few „normal“ boards since most of the boards have gimmicks like stealing stars with chain chomps, all the stars being in one place or the map being a straight line. Those are fun of course but if you wanna play a normal round of Mario Party those games give you only a one or two boards to choose from
I disagree. The "buy star for 20 coins" boards are very common in all other mario party games. Its good that its not the norm for a change
Seven I kinda agree but the only board that felt overdone to me in 6 was Faire Square.
Now I just wanna see you rank all Mario RPG games. I think you only have an ancient top 5 list from years ago. Deserves an upgrade ;)
Like the old mario rpg, all the mario and luigi, and paper marios?
As someone who has played every game in this series extensively. I already know that this video is going to include some hot takes.
What are your opinions Ryan?
even E reader?
The first game should NOT be in the upper half of this list. Any game that legitimately causes injury should be banished to the bottom. Can't believe Nintendo brought stick spinning minigames back despite that.
In theory the first of the series should be towards the bottom because it’s the first too bad it’s not ever that way
I mean granted that's more a problem with the joystick at the time and the way that people were using them rather than a fault of the actual game.
@@Howitchewstofeel5gum No it was bad. I had bad injuries myself when I played it.
My top 3 were
1. Mario Party 6
2. Mario Party 7
3. Mario Party 2
Fuck yes
I grew up with mario party 9, I miss playing it...
Mario Party 8 on #11??
Its probably one of the best if you emulate it on 4k with HD Texture pack
I don't know how Mario Party 2 made the top of this list. I have my love of all the Mario Party games (9,10 and advance aside) and doubt I could list them but Mario Party 2 is probably the one of the ones I thought gave the series an identity but it was refined from that. Yes I miss the costumes and story for each board but only 1 item at a time and having to watch every minigames for the CPU's was a mistake. I'm not sure what I would make the top one but 2 wouldn't be it by a long shot.
My Mario Party rank:
17: Mario Party -e
16: Mario Party Island Tour
15: Mario Party: The Top 100
14: Mario Party
13: Mario Party 2
12: Mario Party Advance
11: Mario Party DS
10: Mario Party 4
9: Mario Party 5
8: Mario Party Superstars
7: Mario Party 3
6: Mario Party 8
5: Mario Party 6 and 7
4: Mario Party 9
3: Mario Party 10
2: Super Mario Party
1: Mario Party Star Rush
(I Like All Mario Partys)
2 under Advance? Each to their own but L
Mario Party 9 deserves more respect
Mario Party DS got way undersold on this
I know mario party 8 has it's flaws but god damn I played that game for several hundred hours when I was little
This man did NOT just put Mario Party 7 that far down. Absolute heresy.
I'm hoping Mario Party Superstars gets a sequel with the Gamecube era boards. The boards from 6 and 7 especially were GOATed
My personal favorite is probably 7, with 4 as a close second, and DS in third.
When Mario Party 4 and 7 is below Super Mario Party. 💀
Currently watching this to see which one would be the best to get for my own switch, thanks for making this!
Man… I loved Mario party 9.
The boss fights were so much fun
They were decent. Fuck the car tho.
5 is my favorite but mario party superstars might be the most reliably fun party game
Was that… was that two seconds of the final boss theme for Lost Judgement when Rabbidluigi repeated “voice controlled mini games”?
never let him cook again
Don't be a turd
Mario Party 8 is SO creative and fun, I've never had a problem with the motion controls. But HOW is the new one ranked so high, its SO BLAND! Theres only like, 4 small boards and they all feel the same, devoid of creativity or fun events. Super Mario Party is on par with 9 at being so terrible
Superstars is the new one
It's a remake of old boards, and not a great one at that. It's not the newest original game
As a German I am offended by you calling Mario Party 1 Wario German >.
Why
Island Tour was pretty interesting.
Mario Party 8 is my favorite Mario Party game
I ❤ed MP8
It's nice to see someone not hating Super Mario Party. While flawed, it's still solid especially after they fixed the online multiplayer and I'd love to see another game like this but tweak some of the problems it has. Also, amazing playable character roster, I say it's the best when it comes to that. Bowser should be playable from now on and just have Kamek take over his role and pester the players.
Mario Party 2 will always be my favorite. I've completed the game many times.
I still can’t believe Superstars only brought back five boards. I truly believe if they just gave us nine board, three from each game, we would have had the perfect Mario Party game and no other game would ever pass it.
Ngl, I grew up with Mario Party 9, I played it so much and I love it a lot
Super Mario Party not being placed immediately after MP 9 is a felony
I am a Mario Party Advanced apologist. It is a fun little distraction and has some goofy minigames.
I'm going to be honest, I think MP2 is far from the best. I don't know, since most of the mini games comes from MP1, i just get this feeling that the game is lazy and i just can't bring myself to love it for that. The board aren't the best in the series either. I prefer MP6's boards
It still baffles me that neither Super Mario Party nor Mario Party Superstars have gotten DLC by now.
Mario , Luigi peach and Yoshi were in every single game. Wario was in the second most games
I like the placements of 5 and 3 for aesthetic alone.
I wish they included more characters
8:41 DECENT?! ONLY DECENT?! This game is phenomenal. Not to mention 6 also uses the mic and you can turn the mic off to use controllers. How dare you.
yeah..I found that part weird... i think theres a hate boner towards 7 for him. 6/7 are easily the best gamecube mps, and for ALOT of people that i've heard, even have 7 as their top 3 or 1. Found it odd he put it so low
@@HoonTurd Right?!
I've seen a lot of Mario Party lists and this is one of the very few that even mentions Mario Party E.
And you never really brought up the minigames or boards for that game?
i will forever scream this from the rooftops
MP2 HAD COSTUMES
WHY DID THEY DO AWAY WITH COSTUMES???
it's the best mario party for THE COSTUMES ALONE
Mario Party 3 is my favorite still, because the Reverse Mushroom is fucking insanity.
13:02
MP6 Not being #1?!
Be prepared for an Invasion by Ohio, lead by a VERY Angry "Hey All!"
Mario party 2, 6, and 1 were my top three.
1? Why 1!?
I just wish they’d make another Mario Party game with costumes.
Out of all the Mario Party games. Mario Party 2 will always be my number 1 favorite. Mario Party 3 gets a close second
8 will always be my favorite but I think 5 is the best
