@@PoopilussMcDoopiluss Nah, he's alluding to the date Paul Gray passed away (Rest in Peace), honestly that's likely where the band fully lost its way as he was one of the founding members and, if I remember correctly, wrote/co-wrote a lot of the music.

@@andrewlikesmetal1095 I thought that was the case tbh
Well said
It's been all downhill since Paul Gray's death in 2010. I think part of why some fans are miffed, especially with how they handled Joey's health and death is the amount of genuine hurt they all felt with Paul's passing. Why didn't Joey deserve the same amount of compassion ?
None of them even showed up for Gray's intervention so it could be said they didn't really show much care or compassion for him or each other generally, even back then.
@@eternity8811 yeah that's kinda fucked up
They also profit from Paul's death... I feel like Joey was the one who speak out about this, and many other issues... that's why the moment they had a chance to kick him out, they wasted no time. Clown has always been a fucking lame greedy jerk.
I like how you say especially how they habdled joeys health. They gave him choices he chose drugs and booze so he got the boot. Stop blaming bands for their humab members personal bad choices this aint WWE they arent being forced to perform 3 times a week to a scripted event they are musicians either they choose what they do from passion or should probably find a regular 9 to 5 if the road life means drug abuse. I wouldnt go to a friends or families intervention for getting hooked on their own stupid choices anyway. I make better ones left all that stupid shit in high school. Not gonna overdose on green concentrates and makes me feel normal.
They didn’t really care about Paul either. Paul’s widow asked the guys of Slapnut to attend an intervention for Paul, to try to get him help. Not a single one them showed up. According to the video I watched there was a member of Slapnut not to far away playing golf,GOLF, and straight up said no. I was laboring under the delusion that Slapnut was a family,a brotherhood, boy was I wrong. As far as I’m concerned Slapnut died when Paul did.
"All the money in the world can't buy me." Well that didn't age well.
Corey and Shawn is the problem.
The fact they fired Craig, and Jay for "creative decisions" is such bs.
Back when Paul was alive, he said this: "Without one of the memembers it just doesn't work."
Even Jim said in their latest album that "rushed"
It sucks to see such a great band has such a downfall. Seeing them become the soulless big "buisness" they despised from the start.

The true Slipknot will remain 1999-2008 for me. With the same members, amazing music that evolved album to album. After that, things started slowly falling apart. Gray Chapter still had few great songs, but it honestly felt like a different band. No wonder as 2 of their 3 main songwriters were gone. It's just been downhill with the music, the image, even down to the masks looking dumber and dumber. I don't care anymore.
Same. I don't care about anything they put out after 2008. It's too different and there's something missing.
I generally agree as well, although for me AHIG was kinda hard to swallow already. But I never stopped checking what they are up to.

Unfortunateky, it died together with Paul R.I.P.
I read this comment while the video showed a clip of Corey in his "We are not your kind" (or whatever that fucking album was called 😂) mask. I just thought...indeed lol.
i love slipknot but yeah they're been more and more focused on money, even if i do think they care about the fans and music it's clear there's a greater importance, the only thing i disagree is Craig's departure, he got out of the band DURING a tour and not after like Joey, Chris and Jay, so i do think he actually got out on his own due to mental health reasons
I agree, that's why I barely touched on it, just mentioned his name once or twice. The situation still annoyed fans regardless of the reason.
@@coolea As a fan, i am deeply disturbed about craig's departure, but it seems like an honest choice made by Craig himself, rather than a kicking out by other band members, as seen with Joey and Jay
@@TheOneAndOnlyCumGuzzlerprobably didn’t want to go independent and his a old man. It would be extremely difficult to live that lifestyle

See, I'll be completely honest, even back when Slipknot first became a big(ish) thing, I thought their whole image smacked an awful lot like a marketing gimmick. I never bought that it was some band of anti-establishment misfits, but a VERY commercial band.
And hey, being commercial isn't wrong, I love plenty of very commercial musicians, but the "fake underground" thing just seems silly to me.
Slipknot wasn’t a commercial effort from the get go, the band definitely came from a grassroots underground beginning.
Unfortunately that’s not the Slipknot we have today.
You could say that for anything past self-titled, but nah, slipknot was a really slow growing underground band throughout 94-98. Their demos at the time actually sounded just as good as some albums of their contemporaries so when they made to switch to corey they sprung into a record deal.
They did all want to be a big commercial band though, even back then you could tell they were hungry for it. Iowa and onward always had at least *one* song that you could consider a radio single. My plague, left behind, before i forgot on vol.3, etc.
^^^
This is an accurate take as far as I can tell. Last decent album was Vol 3 and AHIG was 50/50 imo.
They were definitely underground and "careless" to some extent prior to Self-Titled, but they definitely wanted to go big as well. In fact, I believe any band that implies they wouldn't want an opportunity to get big (even within the punk rock or black metal scenarios) are just lying to themselves. There is a difference between being popular and adhering to an overproduced sound to make that happen, and although every band wants the former, not every band is willing to do the latter, that's the point. But the only kind of band that would genuinely be okay with remaining absolutely small and unknown forever are bands that are hired for weddings and private events, and even those are ambitious lol!
That said, they have always romanticized wearing masks as some sort of anti-commercial or anti-fashion statement in their interviews, but I never really bought that bs either. Why not just say, "we wear masks because it looks cool", period? That's what it is. If they genuinely just wanted to hide their faces and egos and "let the music speak louder", covering their heads with paper bags would have been just as effective.
Yeah. It felt like a tacky image to me.
If Slipknot continue on like this, they will be Slip-Not-Anymore

Paul Gray's death in 2010 inflicted a fatal injury on the band.
From what I've read, Paul seemed to be the guy who held the leash. He was behind a lot of the creative decisions for the first 10 years of the bands existence. This, as well as his extensive involvement in the songwriting process is what made the first 4 albums classics. When he passed, the band was at a loss of what to do next. They've essentially been on autopilot ever since.
Paul really was the support beam of the whole foundation. And in the years following his death, the cracks have begun to show and are only getting worse. After the 25 anniversary tour later this year, I don't know how much longer they will continue on.

i often check in with my best buddy who was a diehard slipknot fan who followed them from their iowa era (I even gave him a bootleg copy of their first debut MFKR which at the time was quite hard to find) and he says even now himself he says he can't stand them and agrees the journey was over when Joey was fired and then later passed away. the kiss comparison is definitely rooting in, although Mushroomhead's claim of plagiarism is a bit offhand though, seen as Mr Bungle originated "the goofballs in boilersuits" look many moons ago, and both band bands have taken some influence from that .

I recognized slipknot as an act that values money over artistic merit when they're 2nd album was released. They made sure to make that album heavy comparible to they're first, so that their established fan base would buy it, but they also made sure to have that one radio-friendly hit (left behind) so that they'd get radio and mtv airplay. That song was so out of place with the rest of iowa. Then the following album they sold out completely.

It's simple: I was a fan of Slipknot when I was 15. I'm not 15 anymore.
You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain or whatever
As a long time Mushroomhead fan, they've been doing the exact same thing for years (minus the merchandising so they have that going for them I guess.)
You nailed it with this video. Corey and clown have turned this once iconic band, that was loved by millions into a laughing stock. I've been a huge slipknot fan since I was 8 years old hearing iowa in like 2002. Now as a 31 year old man, seeing what they did to Joey, hearing clowns egotistical interviews, and the music being just mid at best since all hope is gone just turned me away from slipknot. I truly do not belive they will come back, and I think that they have tarnished thier legacy through thier actions, and through thier music since. But hey! We will always have the first 3 albums!
they became what they once stood against
it’s just a corporate band where the members just work for clown and Corey
Using Paul Gray's mask on your goblin cartoon is why I subbed to your channel (Paul's the reason I picked up bass)
Having my own local metal band with aspirations of growing into something more, Slipknot's method of making anything into merch is incredibly helpful. Granted we're not making hockey pucks, but at the end of lockdown when the States started doing live shows again, my band was selling masks we made for a dollar and made our money back from it.
To add about the Joey stuff, his condition was created by his drug usage. And as a day one fan of Slipknot, being able to still see his equipment and outfit in the Slipknot museum is both part of their history and emotional for die hard maggots.
I feel like mr bungle doesn’t get a mention compared to mushroomhead, mr bungle’s first album is a blue print to bands to come, watch “quote unquote” Then you will see, no one was doing what they was doing
I loved them when I was younger because I liked the sounds of extreme metal, but didn't know how to actually find any. In terms of "selling out", this should't be surprising for one thing: they are getting older. I can tell you this, as bands get older, most will sell out, no matter who they are. Very few actually don't do it and maintain relevance and success over the years. I think its natural for people who get older and worry about financial security in your golden years. So I get it.

I was done after they emailed joey. No offence to jay hes a good drummer, if they had issues with joey theres ways to go about it without making your fans dislike them. Trying to leach off joeys death like they were all cool and fine is like phil doing pantera and saying "its in memory of the abbott brothers" when they both despised phil and wanted nothing to do with him, its nothing more than a money grab trying to cash in on some extra money because the other bands were mostly flops

This is exactly why I don't think I'm that interested in seeing the actual band live, but rather, tribute bands. I'm running with SIC TX from Austin, Texas right now.
Went to their debut performance and a later one both at the same venue. Let me tell you, one of the coolest nights of my life.
With a tribute band, it both pays homage to the original, and can preserve a specific era of a band.
With SIC TX, it's a mix of Self-Titled to Iowa, which are the fan favorites.
It does kind of put it into perspective when I'd rather see the "poor man's" or "Mondo Burger" version of my favorite band of 13 years then the original.

In summary: All Band Is Gone.
Slipknot these days sounds lifeless. They are out of touch, their music sounds like empty shell and their personality now are none existent. None of their new songs sound impactful or good, and their live performances sounds like Corey Taylor are struggling to catch a breath before saying another part of the words from lyrics of their songs. Seriously, I'm not even lying. Look at any of their live shows nowadays and compare them to what they did in the past. You will see what I'm talking about. Like, back in the days or even a bit after that, like in 2008 or so, he still sounded good and could sing properly without stopping. But right now, he sounds like a old man that is sick with asthma and needs to retire. So yeah, in conclusion I quit following them for like 4 or 5 years ago and will never listen to them again. Especially after they fired other members that made this band at least somewhat good here and there.
Another problem you didn't mention is that they're newer music is well, shit (in my opinion) like Just lisen to the devil in i then hive mind and you'll have a stroke
Do you have a video on Mushroomhead yet? Slipknot's nothing compared to the drama behind Mushroomhead. Lineup changes every year. Their Corey/Crahan is a single dude, and he's been running the band into the ground for ages, and recently had some legal troubles after threatening some employees. I recently spent a solid few hours looking into it all. It's a fun read.
I’m not the biggest Slipknot fan however…. It’s been 20+ damn years of hearing mushroom head complain about Slipknot…. They’re so mad another band came along and did what they were trying to do 1000x better. However Slipknot came to be is irrelevant they’re here now and are a huge band, get over it mushroom head and their fans.
The problem with Mushroomhead isn't that Slipknot beat them to the punch. The problem is that Mushroomhead has never released a song that doesn't sound like it was written by 14 year old who just learned about drop tuning and FL Studio.
Mushrooomhead sound more like faith no more then they do slipknot
They both ripped off Mr. Bungle and openly admit it 😂
I'd say not just their videos but their music has been formulaic for years now. Didn't want to admit it since they were such a huge part of my teenage years, but yeah in hindsight it seems very obvious.
Dang, Slipknot rn is just sad, the band fires old members that fans all love, bring in replacements that are usually well liked after a while and then proceed to fire THEM and replace them AGAIN with someone else, I feel bad for Jay Weinberg and I hope that V man, Senor Tortilla and all the OGs stay until the band decides to hang up their gloves for good and retire, like Kiss...wait...FUCKING SHIT-
I stopped listening after Vol 3. Looks like i made the right decision.
RIP JOEY
There's a reason I only listen to metal bands from when those bands were coming up/in their prime. I didn't even have WANYK in my playlist until it was suggested to me, because I had a very good feeling All Hope Is Gone was their last "good" album. Bands go through cycles. But almost no bands make it around to the second cycle
I pretty much exclusively listen to their first two albums. Anything after is incredibly hit or miss.
It hasn't been good in 20+ years, that's a pretty big problem.
slipknot needs to embrace nu metal again (they won’t)
They where over for me personally after Joey left! I've brought their albums after he left and have played them a few times a year! Same for me when David left Korn
I always thought that was the plan they talked about in the early years that "slipknot is an entity" and will continue on for years after they were all in the ground? According to Corey in an interview I think with Sid unless they were just joking around like they did in their early years but it seems like that happening.
Joey wasn’t the only member who died. So did their old bass player that wore the pig mask. No one ever talks about that member
...good one...noone talks about Paul...happy trolling...
Coolea I see ya slowed down the cuts in editing… I prefer it 😎
yes, less annoing
All Hope Is Gone was the last decent album. I will die on this hill.
I don't give a F. If the music is good, i'll listen to it.

Agreed
Fair enough
Real ngl
Slipknot was good from 98-02 ,anything that came out after Iowa was tainted with the Stone Sour, butt rock sound that Taylor really leaned into and still relies on to this day.
The conception of money has made us all greedy, heartless, cold, and numb especially towards one another
