I always loved that they had to pay their guitarist a premium to be in the band.

Before Limp Bizkit got famous, I saw them open for Faith No More. They were so bad, they were booed off stage. I’m not a fan, but felt bad for them as someone who has performed live gigs. That having been said, Wes was pretty much the only artist/performer in the band who was very good. Just my anecdotal two cents.

Man....i've been makin fun of Fred Durst for decades at this point.....it's nice to see the tradition still goin strong.
A few notes:
- Fred spoke positively of Eminem in a 2016 interview, it's on UA-cam, just search "Fred Durst on Eminem".
- Tim Commerford once apologized to the world for RATM inspiring Limp Bizkit, Fred's reply to this was basically that he respects Tim and RATM but that Tim is a bully.
- Zakk Wylde said something to the effect of "Limp Bizkit sucks dick" on stage once, but he's since clarified that he was upset that his own band wasn't doing so hot at the time because they didn't wanna conform to nu metal tropes, but that there's no bad blood between him and LB now.
- Shaggy 2 Dope has explained recently that the reason he messed with Fred on stage was that he was drunk and had said he was gonna kick Fred, and that he was basically in too deep when he tried to back away and not do it, so he did it. He's expressed regret for doing it and apologizes for it every time it comes up. Fred and Violent J have recently discussed the incident and everything is cool.
In my eyes, Fred durst will always be the single funniest and somehow unapologetically 90s-cool frontmen in nu-metal, I enjoy limp bizkit, while admittedly not my favorite band, they're still a very fun group to listen to, and Wes borland's guitar playing will always be the best part of their music.

When your favourite singer says "hey, yo!", probably it's time to move on with other music.
I had been a huge Limp Bizkit fan at the age of fourteen - "hard music" appealed to me and I listened to whatever had been accessible to me, from weird metal introduced to me thanks to a local station having a two hour broadcast dealing with it for two hours a night once a week to music TV where Nu Metal was blowing up.
I wasn't proficient enough in english yet to actually understand the lyrics and didn't care anyways because it was more about associations and admittedly image at a time when I got into skateboarding and downhill mountainbiking and this was just the kind of music the slightly older kids we looked up to had been listening.
But I would soon realize a certain lack of substance - it was merely pop music at a time when I became more aware in regards to politics and culture.
Thankfully we had a local punk scene in the metropolitan area of Berlin coinciding with a humble 70's punk arrival and after I had read "England's Dreaming" I knew where I would feel home.
With 16 I was pretty much set on this particular sub-subculture to this day more than 20 years later although I meanwhile identify with HC just as much.
For a time I feel ashamed to ever have listened to Limp Bizkit, but now that I hopefully have matured at least a little I can see why it made sense at this time and feel grateful that it alongside my compatriots of Rammstein set the path for making me who I am today.
I 100% cannot take Fred Durst seriously
Durst's dissing reputation was made worse when Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water's opening track, the lyrics being mockeries of Trent Reznor's substance abuse that nearly killed him. Ironically enough, Limp Bizkit's drummer Wes Borland would collaborate with NIN's Renhölder and A Perfect Circle(one of TOOL's side-projects aside from Puscifer) on the first Underworld movie's soundtrack.
The history of Limp Bizkit, and any of Nu Metal's beefs have been a massive rabbithole to dive down imo. Slipknot even got to throw shade at Mushroomhead; the reason was made hilarious by the fact I'm a fan of both artists. 😅

You should have done more research into that drop kick. It gets severely overlooked and further fuels the misunderstanding. Shaggy made a bet that if they got a teenager backstage he'd drop kick Fred. He's a man of his word so he did a wrestling drop kick which is why it looked like he missed.
