  • See me start up the Hangkai 2 Stroke 6HP Outboard engine for the first time on the stand and in the water. I show it breaking in at each stage of the break-in process. I go over my initial thoughts on the motor having used the on-board gas tank and an external tank. And I also show a live GPS read out for the speed test during break-in. @@SKLIFEstyleThank you for your reply. I have 12 hours into my motor now and it is just fantastic. The vibrations were aggressive starting out but it has calmed down quite a bit, especially at half throttle. I did take the prop off and greased the shaft, and also greased the throttle cable to help with longevity on those parts. Probably got 3 to 4 weeks of good fishing weather here in Michigan then I'll need to put the motor in storage for the winter. I'll be excited to put some hours on it next year. Probably thinking I should order some impeller kits so I have them, although it does come with one to use after 100 hours of use.
      Hopefully yours is still running strong.

    after a tank of internal fuel the rings are more seated than they will ever be. heat cycle for an hour and thats it. 8 hrs break in is just insurance for the factory. if it doesnt start after 2 pulls give it a little gas. i see you kinda figured that out after yanking on the poor thing. the way to increase the life of the pullstart recoil spring is to pull the cord out until you feel resistance/compression then pull. you should see these guys ripping these when there is no resistance!

    • @SKLIFEstyle
      @SKLIFEstyle  11 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, I had a bit harder time starting up do to having just transporting it for a long distance. But any other time a couple pulls and it would always fire right up. Actually a pretty solid motor, and hard to see paying twice the price for the real mercury, especially when talking about such low horsepower. A big boat and such then yeah I would go for the reliability factory but for this application I think the cost savings is worth it.

    I plan to use the tank on top of my new 6hp Suzuki as a reserve. I’m gonna keep it full as a back-up plan in case I screw up and the remote tank runs out unexpectedly. Since it’s only 6hp I probably won’t ever be so far away that the top tank won’t get me back in a pinch

      That's awesome. I don't have the motor any longer, I actually sold the boat earlier this year since it wasn't going to get much use for the second year in a row. But this was a short shaft so I feel like it was about 18 inch. They have two versions I believe but the short shaft worked great for this application.

      @killzilla I sold it this summer, but it still ran excellent, fired right up, and no issues/concerns. Person I sold it too planned to use it often with the family. I think it is worth getting versus another model for 4x the price. Mixing gas isn't the most fun, but they may have a 4 stroke, if they do and it's a few bucks more that may be worth the spend to save the hassle. But otherwise I was pleasantly surprised. How fast did that go on your skiff? I got a 17' 05 Glastron Mx 175. I have had problems twice stuck on the water, and was wanting to get one of these as a back up. I was thinking of getting the 9hp one they sell. The total weight of the boat with a full tank is about 2,400 lbs, so lets say 3,000 with a few people on it... Could you estimate how fast that would go as well?? (First time throttle cable was loose, second time starter bolts broke) Unexpected things keep happening so thats why I want to put one of these as a backup...

      @SKLIFEstyle  2 роки тому

    • @SKLIFEstyle
      @SKLIFEstyle  2 роки тому +1

      To expand further I have the external tank to cut down on having to stop and refuel on the water. More prone to spilling with the internal tank needing refueling every hour and cuts out any concern that you are running low. It's enough to drive multiple days for long trips and it's just a plug in, nothing complicated.

When we got towed to escape a storm quickly over like 25+mph started to be a bit much. The wind kicked up with the storm and waves, too, so that I'm sure that had an effect as well. But other than that, I was impressed. It's worth the purchase, and it breaks down to basically a gym bag when you're all done. I have a video of fully putting it together. @bigharv3232 If you don't mind me asking, and if you do no offense taken, what state is that? I know I went down a rabbit hole of thinking it may need some special coast gaurd registration because the boat was inflatable with an unverified motor. I bought peacemeal. Luckily, even here in CT with all our crazy laws, it was pretty simple for the DMV to create a title based on my receipts and bill of sale. I am sure there must be a workaround because you can't be the first to decide to buy an outboard, even a cheap Chinese one, and slap it on their John boat or something. Really hope you get things worked out. At least the season is just starting, so you have time.

      @SKLIFEstyle texas. I've heard from a few people close to me that as long as the boat is registered I should be ok. But I'm uncertain this is my first boat

    hello, what connector you use for the gas tank? is a yamaha stile connector?

    • @crowdcor225

      The connector should be Tohatsu style.

      Mercury would be the equivalent for parts on this...that is the connector kit I bought and fits 100%.**SK**

      @@SKLIFEstyle Thanks for letting us know. I was under the impression that all parts and connections were compatible with Tohatsu, but Tohatsu does design the smaller Mercury outboards as well.

      We pulled the boat by the floor by accident to get us out a storm and I think it pulled the floor forward and made it easier for water to get under the floor and pool up in back. Just pulled the plugs put and most of it drained.**SK**

      Well I am getting ready to run it for its 2nd season....didn't have problems running it months after summer last year when I went to winterize it. Fingers crossed it will still run fine now. Haven't had any issues. I would recommend the external tank. 3 Gallons is enough to run days without refilling. And when you do you can do it on land and bring thr tank back.

      The floor was pulled forward just enough to allow water splashing to run under the floor and build up in the stern. I open the plugs to let it run out, but yes, def. had some learning curves to get through, lol. Thanks for the feedback. Be sure to Subscribe! **SK**

    Thanks for showing it hooked up to a external tank! I was worried about this part because the tank on the motor has be small and I couldn't imagine it holding much. Id hate to try filling it up while on the water....probably end up dumping it in the water while filling it. I wonder if the 3.6 has the same feature, I know it won't do much, but I can pick up one for 150 and it would be good on my 2nd boat and I could test it out. Think this 6hp would push a 14ft aluminum vhaul jon boat with 2 people ok? Long as I can get like 7 mph id be happy.

    Everyone is focused on how fast these motors run. The most important thing to me would be how easy it starts and how dependable the motor is. Being stranded on the waterr is serious stuff

    • @SKLIFEstyle
      @SKLIFEstyle  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, speed isn't isn't strongest suit. But even still, it wasn't that bad. But like you said I was happy with its ability for it to start. I was never left stranded.

      Hey I can appreciate the offer but I actually sold the boat and motor several weeks back. I got this from Walmart. If you buy a giftcard I am sure you can order it through their website. I got the short shaft version to work better with the inflatable's transom and depth. They had a decent selection to choose from.

    What do you mean 25 to 1?

    • @SKLIFEstyle
      @SKLIFEstyle  7 місяців тому

      I believe that was referring to the gas to oil mixture ratio. Most 2stroke bottle will say how many oz to put in per gallon to be at a certain mixture ratio. If they only give the 50:1 just cut it in half. That was just for the break in period if I'm not mistaken. And then in bumps up to standard ratios.
