DIY: How to Apply a Chunky Glitter Ombré
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 жов 2018
- In this video I show the method I use for applying a chunky glitter ombré look.
I base coated this cup with gray spray paint and then applied Titanium glitter from Featherbear Bling (www.featherbeardesigns.com) using the epoxy method. NOTE: Featherbear Bling is currently only stocked on Saturdays at 10am PST and sells out that day.
The steps in the video are to apply a layer of epoxy and then sprinkle the chunky glitter on top.

I NEVER leave comments on UA-cam, ever. I made an exception because I absolutely love to watch your videos. I hope you continue making new videos and sharing them because this is definitely one of your callings.
Emily Saxton Thank you so much!! ❤️
This is so satisfying to watch! Love it!
It’s beautiful Mindy.....you are awesome and my inspiration. Sending you a big sister girl hug...when I have a stressful day your videos make me feel relaxed and inspired..
Beautiful as usual. Thanks Mindy
Thank you so much for this tutorial♥️
Love the color combs
Thank you for sharing with us. Jerri
Sooooo pretty
I ssssooooo love ur work!!
I’ve learned so much from you....You share so much information...A person like me that’s new to this learns to make and knows what products to purchase because you list what items you use. I was wondering if you can make a video on how to make the color changing tumbler cups? I’ve seen videos on UA-cam but no one is sharing how it’s made. 😔 Anyway, happy crafting and thank you again for sharing!
I haven't done one of those yet. You do the same as typical, but you use a UV glitter, if you're referring to the one that changes with the sun. If you're referring to the heat changing one, like a mood ring, you can use the paint from solorcolordust.com.
solarcolordust.com/products/liquid-crystal-6-color-change-thermochromic-ink-mood-ring-effect
Your work is very beautiful, I'm delighted !! My dream to have one of these but does not exist in Brazil .. :(
Thank you! I'm sorry!
I would love to learn how to do this
Good evening and i love the chucks video i do have a question? I don’t have vinyl cutter so can i use vinyl stickers on the expoy?Or not..... i have my first order and still not decal arrive or vinyl cutter
Sexy and Young Stickers have been used by some and I would test it under epoxy before putting it on cup. I prefer vinyl decals, waterslide
Could you share more about these turner? I haven't seen one that looks like this. Always looking for a better turner here. Thanks, you make this look so easy!
I have them linked in my supplies tutorial. Glamour Tribe Customs on etsy. She makes them and then lists them so they aren't always available...but they're great.
Love it and all your videos. How many cups do you make a week?
Casie White I have a full time job so only take on a couple at a time.
Hi there, thank you so much for the tutorial, which chunky mix did you use
Sorry.... I did not listen properly
Can I do this using mod podge to apply the first layer of fine glitter? So mod podge, glitter, dry, seal, epoxy, chunky glitter, cure, sand, another layer of epoxy?
Jackie Copenhaver I would think so, yes and yes!
Hi Minderella! I've been inspired by your work + your music lol.
My question of the day is how much did you invest your first time into this hobby/job?
Mayte Torres Hundreds. Lol. Thousands. I really don’t know. I bought little things here and there to start. Probably spent a few hundred for initial supplies.
haha thank you !
I love you voice it’s so relaxing !
My question is , when your cup cures and you do a second layer , do you use a torch ? And if so do you ever have dimples at the top of the cup where you didn’t put
any glitter ?
My customer wants something similar . Black with chunky gold on the bottom and I’m so scared I won’t we able to get the top to look smooth . I thought about mixing a tiny amount of black mica in my epoxy and spreading that on the black base and then adding the chunky , so the top has some shine and isn’t too plane . Would that work ? Thank You
There are really so many options that would look good. It really depends on the look you’re going for. I seal my chunky glitter to help the epoxy cover and not separate. 😊
Are there glitters you should not use under epoxy? Do some fade in epoxy? Thank you. Love your videos!!
Kimberly Hodson Yes. Only use solvent resistant glitter. It could fade or bleed if it’s not.
When the cup has cured, do you deal with a bumpy finish? Do you have to sand it down?
After the first coat (I do thicker coats) I sand down any trouble spots. You don't want to sand glitter though because it can change to silver (if it's metallic) or discolor if it's another kind. Then I add the next layer.
I'm needing to buy a 2 cup turner and a drying rack. Do you sell these items?
No, I do not sell the turners. I have links in my supplies tutorial to a few turner places you can check.
When you applied the epoxy & the fine glitter at the beginning.. how long did you let it turn & dry before you applied the layer of epoxy for the chunky glitter?
Ashley Wallace I waited overnight. The epoxy was cured hard.
so you applied the solid glitter using epoxy method let cure, then applied the chunky or did you coat the solid coat too before the chunky
@@MinderellaCreations
Ashley Souza Applied the titanium first and let cure. Then applied epoxy and applied the chunky which you see in the video.
@minderella do you seal your glitter with the epoxy method..I have been but wondering if it’s just preference or needed..also how long do you wait to epoxy after the first glitter application
Brenda Benton I do a final coat of epoxy to seal everything, yes. If that’s what you mean. If I’m trying to prevent glitter from moving so I can apply epoxy I seal with 2x rustoleum clear gloss.
When you use the epoxy method, how many coats of epoxy do you do past the first one? Also do you sand right before your last coat?
Keeli Plans With this cup I used epoxy to apply the Titanium glitter. Then I put another thin layer on it and applied the chunky. Then decal and seal with another layer of epoxy.
Minderella Creations do you sand the chunky glitter before the decal and epoxy?
Amanda Lucio If it needs it. I usually try to get it smooth.
So glad to see im not the only one...lol so after the chunky are you sanding it? Then putting a finishing coat?
I’ve only watched a couple videos so far so maybe this is a stupid question but, does the epoxy make them dishwasher safe?
Laura Townes Hand wash only
What kind of glitter did you use? I did recollections and it looked bad. Is it because it’s fine?
The one is a ultra fine. The chunky is a metallic one. Recollections can look good, it’s what I started with, it just takes more work.
Minderella Creations thanks! could u recommend a good brand?
Goabove 21 I have several glitter sellers with good quality glitters linked in my supplies tutorial. ua-cam.com/video/WksL6r6O098/v-deo.html
After I apply the chunky glitter can I add a decal after cured without it looking bumpy or should I apply another layer of epoxy before I add the decals? Then seal again?
You should always epoxy over your glitter before adding a decal. You don’t want bumps under the decal.
@@MinderellaCreations thank you!
I think this is the video you referred me to from Instagram. Is the epoxy 15ml of parts a and b as well before applying the chunky? Or will that be too thick of a layer? Thanks!!
I always mix that amount and then use what I need. When doing the chunky on bottom you want it to be thicker so it doesn’t spread as much and you will use more than applying a regular glitter but less than a seal coat.
And about how much for the seal coat/flood coat? I saw one tutorial said about 45 total ml vs the typical 30 ml. Thanks! Still learning by trial and error!
kthomas1421 Same. I mix the same for each and use what I need. 😊
I don't have Facebook..... Is there any other way to purchase a tumbler from you and see prices ?
I'm not currently accepting orders and facebook is the easiest way to see that and be notified. You can email me for information though if you'd like. Minderella1225@gmail.com
Do you ever have to do two coats of chunky on the bottom so you don't see through to your base coat?
Rachel Freiheit I use a complementary color behind it so it’s not an issue if it shows through a little. You can also do an ombré Extra Fine and then apply the chunky on the matching Extra Fine.
Thank you for posting this tutorial. I tried this method but for some reason my chunky glitter works its way up and completely covers my fine glitter. How do I prevent that from happening?
Your epoxy is too runny. Use a thicker epoxy or wait longer so your epoxy can set up a little bit more before applying it.
@@MinderellaCreations ok will do thank you
How did you start your own business doing something like this? I wanna start my own little boutique so badly but I don’t wanna fail. Plus I don’t know how to get started like making little stickers with my businesses name, getting the word out there etc! Would love to make tumblers like this. They’re so beautiful!! I would love to chat about it if you don’t mind, thanks!!
Your best bet is to keep watching videos on UA-cam do your research invest in some inexpensive products and practice ...Sometimes they will leave your question unanswered so that drives me to research it for myself....
Once you added the chunky glitter, did you sand? I have sanded mine but I don’t like the way it changes the color.
I didn’t sand it. I added another coat of epoxy.
OMG thank you so much! Love your videos!
Where is the best place to get tumblers to start with
Check out my supplies tutorial.

When I apply chunky glitter to my tumbler using this method it gathers and moves up the cup as it is drying. Is there a way to prevent that from happening and a way to fix it once it has already dried?
Taylor Amacher I use a thin layer of epoxy and let it set up a bit so it’s thicker. It’ll hold onto the glitter a bit better. You can push it down while it’s wet. Once it cures there’s not much you can do.
Thank you for the tip
Hi I’m having trouble getting my epoxy smooth. Any tips?
I have an epoxy video where I go over everything that can happen. Check that out!
Thank you!!!
I love your videos, thanks for sharing. But FYI..the entire stock of glitter at Featherbear Bling is SOLD OUT..I am imagine they are a busy company, but EVERYTHING GONE?? Geez!! I'm sure there are a million places to buy glitter!!
Shannon Russell Actually if you Check my Supplies Tutorial it addresses this. She only restocks on Saturdays at 10am pst. That’s her business model. They are open until the inventory is gone or Sunday evening and then they shut down and fill orders. 😊
@@MinderellaCreations ohhh ok got it... I must have missed that. Awesome I will be on the lookout!! Keep posting:) love the videos

This cup was sanded, cleaned, base coated in gray spray paint, epoxied and then sprinkled with the gray glitter while that epoxy was wet and then cured. That is what you see at the start of this video.
How much epoxy do you use per layer?
I mix 15ml each part for most of my cup sizes. Sometimes a little more for bigger ones.

I know this video is older, but as a person doing tutorials, it bothers me to see people who are not wearing protective nitrile gloves while doing so. It is a very important step, and for possible beginners to not be seeing this can be very serious when it comes to allergic reactions and lung health. Just a thought. Always use protection, nitrile gloves and a respirator when using epoxy resin!
I am very supportive of using protection. My supplies video goes over that in detail and I was wearing nitrile gloves when I applied the epoxy in this video. The only time I didn’t was when I sprinkled the glitter on but I didn’t touch it so it didn’t matter. 😊
Here’s a link to that one.

All the glitter being wasted! Makes me cringe! Lol
leah marquez I don’t waste any! I save and put in a dump mix. 😂😊🙌🏻
