We are exploring new ingredients from our local Asian Market (landlocked southwestern state) here in Utah. And luckily, I found you! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Hello, I am happy I found your channel, I see the dried five flavor berry you show on video and wonder if you ever tried to plant the berries of the five flavor berry fruit to see if they will grow? I understand that the plant that the five flavor berries grow from is the Schisandra (Schisandra chinensis) vine, the common name Magnolia Vine. I read that plant can grow in usda plant hardiness zones 3-8. I am in zone 8.
Great question! I actually don't know if they will grow easily here. I haven't heard any Koreans growing it near where I live (SF california) so I'm not sure. But you can try?
This is fascinating! I started watching because the sweets and the mold that is used remind me of the ones for the Japanese tea sweets, rakugan. But those are made with powdered sugar. The dasik-making process is much more involved!!! Can you make the cooked rice flour mixture in bulk and store it (such as in the freezer) to be used later?
Yes - you can! But make sure you dry it completely right after. Then season with sesame oil (esp. in the first few months). Thank you for your purchase!
Yes, of course! Or you can even just roll it into a small ball! You can see how I use a cookie cutter here -kimchimari.com/green-tea-matcha-cookies-omija-dasik/
Thank you! I had no idea so much went into the dashik!
Yes, it's a bit involved but I think totally worth the effort!
Thank you fir sharing your knowledge! I's very beautiful
