Prince referred to Chaka Khan as the "mother of ALL voices."
She is!!!
Whitney said “Chaka is the best” & “she was not worthy to cover ‘I’m Every Woman’ “... But Chaka told her “She was the only one that could”!!!
Whitney worshipped at the altar of Chaka Khan!!! That was her favorite singer!!!
@@tyjahkhan7708 Agreed! I fell in love with her when she was with "Rufus". Her music transcends all genres.
@@tyjahkhan7708 yeah Whitney’s first studio experience was doing backgrounds for Chaka on her 1980 Naughty album :) (Luther was on that too!)
And as his muse.
I'm a 55 yr old Hispanic man. I love to watch your videos. You guys make my heart feel good. And that you love and respect the older generation music. I got mad love for you guys and would love to have a sit down with ya and talk music. Ty for doing what you do!
I'm a 58 year old Mexicano and since I was a boy her music just rocked my world then and she continues to speak to my soul! She is beyond compare. There is NO ONE like Chaka Khan!
Good music speaks to the soul and transcends all colors❤.
I'm a 62 yr old white woman and I want to say that - you know how the country is going so divisive and just hating right and left - wherever you look. We NEED what you are doing! We need the agape type of love when you are happy to venture into other worlds and say "Hi". well "Hi" right back at ya! You guys rock! Thank you
Omg exactly! I'd love to spend a day with these two!!!!!
Adam V. You are so right 🥰❤
Chaka Khan's a national treasure. Glad you two got to experience her magic.
True l agree 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Try chaka's start with Rufus to hear her in her raw form, You got the love and tell me something good was the start.
I agree ❤
She is a ten time Grammy award winner. She is also probably the single biggest reason we had Whitney Houston. Whitney sang background on HER hit, "I'm Every Woman." Whitney covered it and paid homage to her in the song.
That's A HISTORICALLY RELEVANT FACT! EXPRESSED AND ACKNOWLEDGED 😁 WITH LOVE.😘 💕 I BELIEVE SHE ALWAYS CALLED WHITNEY HOUSTON "NIP". 🥰 THIS IS AUNTIE CHAKA. KEEP THAT RESPECT ON HER NAME AND TALENT. OH!🤔😳 SHE ALSO GOT ON DEM ARTISTS LIKE "ANITA BAKER" WHO WAS GIVING LUTHER VANDROSS GRIEF PUBLICLY ABOUT HIS SEXUALITY BEFORE HE DIED. I DON'T BELIEVE SHE WAS "CO-SIGNING" HIS BEHAVIOR AS MUCH AS I BELIEVE THAT SHE WAS JUST MAKING IT CLEAR "BETWEEN AFRICAN AMERICAN FRONT RUNNING 🎵🎶 MUSICAL ARTISTS"....THAT IT WAS EITHER NONE OF YOUR DAMNED BUSINESS "IF" THAT THE WAY YOU'RE GONNA PUBLICLY "HANDLE OR FURTHER DISGRACE" HIM WITH THE INFORMATION BETWEEN AFRICAN AMERICAN ARTISTS. BECAUSE. IT WASN'T A SECRET. SHE IS NOT ONLY "TALENTED AND VOCALLY GIFTED"....CHAKA KHAN AND THAT FUNK. THAT POWERFUL VOICE. THAT DELICIOUS SMILE. HER RHYTHMIC🪘POWER OF EXPRESSION. AND SHE'S THICK, SEXY, STYLISH AND A BOSS. GIMME MORE!🥰😘💕😁
There ain't nobody like Chaka Khan. She is the Empress.
Gladys Knight is the Empress of Soul.
She is my hands down favorite! Saw her in Concert in the 1970's. She brought the auditorium down!
Chaka Khan Queen of funk.
Amen to that!
Prince thought so. He held her in high regard.
This is from a time where everyone listened to the same music. Didn’t matter if you were a guy /girl Grown/ Young/ Black white And everything in between. Miss these days
This.
I was super Blessed to be raised in a house where if the music was good, it played. If it was great, it got lots of replays. No matter the genre.
Mozart to Motown.
@@badkitty4922 yes my peoples listened to everything too. Not classical but everything else
This is pure truth... and I miss those days also...
Today's world is insane
Exactly!!
Yes!! 👏😊
They need to hear Chaka Khan with Rufus singing "Tell me Something Good"
Funk at its best.
YES!!!!!
My Auntie Libby introduced me Chaka Khan and Rufus and she's been my chock ever since!💜💜
Yes they do!
My fave w/Rufus & Chaka was "Do u like
What You Feel."
Back in the day before auto tune, she sang with her whole heart and hit every note. Range, depth, beautiful.
Chaka is 67 years old and still hits those notes like she did 30-40 years ago. I just saw her at the 2020 MLK Day Concert at the Kennedy Center DC. And she is still doin’ the dam thing! Killt.
I'd love to see her! Dang covid needs to be done already!!
She’s still gorgeous! women in the 60’s are! I know!
The Emotions Don't Ask my Neighbor. A Must listen
@@DaisyAnnabelle65 ... Yes you know it!
That was probably the last concert before the pandemic 😥
THE One and Only CHAKA KHAN!!! 🖤
Hands Down lol.
Absolutely.
True l agree 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Chaka Khan is one of the greatest female vocalists of all time. Totally underrated. She was part of the soundtrack of my youth and I am so happy about that!!!!!!
I agree 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
I feel the same way.
Not underrated by Q. He features her in a lot of stuff and it always works. Stuff like that.
Agree!
Absolutely. She has won two more Grammys than Barbra Streisand. She is a national treasure and still doing it at 70 years old and still sounds AMAZING!
IM REALLY LOVING HOW THE YOUNGER GENERATION ARE APPRECIATING THE OLD SCHOOL MUSIC....
Stumbled on these guys today. LOVE IT!!

Listen to her version of I Feel for You, a song written by Prince.
Well that's cool I did not know that thank you for that information
Didnt know Prince was the writer either.

RUFUS -TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD
YEPPPPPP
Yes, I remember the first time hearing “Tell Me Something Good” on the radio in the car. I was like, WTF is this?!!! Changed the meaning of “beat”! Unforgettable!!
Omg, what do you do during the intro while waiting for Tim and Fred to hear Chaka for the first time? Just knowing their musical lives were gonna change is just the sweetest anticipation!!! Such a treat! 🥰🤩
Right?! I’m always thinking, “just wait for what’s coming! It gets even better!”
Exactly!! I was so excited to see them experience this song💗💗💗
👏👏👏👏💥♥️
Totally
I love seeing it !
No Auto tone. A real woman, a real womans voice. Sultry, with depth unlike the new female mega stars that sound like little girls or chipmunks idk, with strange nursery school versing.
So true!!!!
@revelator_7 & @Carol McLN
I 2nd that emotion. The female "megas" (???), all cut out wannabees. Beyonce lip syncing at Barack's "whatever it was" it was a joke. And for no talent Beyonce an embarrassment. They don't make them like Chaka Khan any more. :-(
@@stormatsunup HUUUUUUGE FACTS!!!!!!🎶🎵🎤
Dude said "chipmunks 🐿 " lol!
@@janetownley of course they didn't. What they did do with analog recording technology was called layering. The master Tape had many tracks and the Artist can add to that by doubling or more of voice or instrument and also add effects from the master board but the end result was truer to the actual voice and instrument.
Hey twins, glad you discovered Chaka Khan. As a mid sixties white man from Nebraska, I knew & loved Chaka Khan starting in the ‘70s. She’s incredible. Also all the other R&B goddesses of that era. Minnie Riperton, Etta James, Gladys Knight, Patti Labelle..... enjoy
Love Chaka!!! You have to play her other song “Through the fire”!!! It’s pure FIRE!
Oh you guys must listen to her early history with Rufus.. the big hit being Tell Me Something Good. You will LOVE it! Chaka Khan is a Goddess.

Right?! Better late than never.
You love her adlibs! Yes, that's what made me fall in love with her voice at 6 years old.
This is one of those songs, I can NOT turn it off until it’s over! LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!
One of the biggest tracks of the 80's and still blazing today 💥
Nothing like skating to Chaka Khan at the roller rink Saturday nights with all your friends from school. The best times
Yes i grew up loving her music. I miss those days of skating. I feel sorry for the kids that dnt grow up in the 70s early 80s. They can keep all their social media computers and phones we had more fun
Yes, I went every Saturday afternoon with my friends in the early 80s! ❤️
We were lucky 😘💛
God yes!
Amen !
I love when y’all feel the music with the STANK FACE🥰❤️
That's when you know that shit hit your soul!!! 💯
She performed in Brooklyn, N.Y in 2015 at Prospect Park for FREE,it was packed shoulder to shoulder, standing room only! The smoke was in the air😥😥 We thought the show was over& we all started walking away then she dropped the beat to Ain't Nobody! I saw a grown man start crying😣🤣😂😂 He was hugging his friend saying it was the best night of his life!! She KILLED it!!One of my favorite singers (I know it's a long story🤣😥)🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It’s impossible to be sad when listening to this song!
I would love for y’all tot react to Chaka Khan singing “Tell me something good”!! Her voice was really something else in the 1970s when she first started with her band Rufus!! Her band really had that funk to their music!!! She is the Queen of funk!!!🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Right, I now have an uncontrollable urge to listen to Rufus.
good choice ...good choice...tell me something good...what a hit...luv it...luv it
My favorite. That has been my ringtone for years.
She was a member of Chicago’s Black Panther Party in the late 60s that served breakfast. She’s amazing.
Didn't know that! Just makes me love her even more!!! (And I didn't know I possibly could!! -- Always been in awe!!)
Ever hear the story about TAKING the COP'S/SECURITY'S WEAPON? She probably still has it!.....LOL
They started the free breakfast programs.
She was a black supremacist? Too bad
@@suem6004 She WAS and IS, a DEFENDER of BLACK PEOPLE, and BLACK CULTURE!
I saw Chaka Khan live when I was a teenager. So glad you had an opportunity to experience her and thank you for sharing her gift with others. I play this song while taking an early morning walk. Whew!
Rufus’s “Tell me something good” will blow your minds!
Next: "I Feel For You" also by Chaka Khan. It's been sampled a lot so you may have heard some it already.
These songs were all over the place. I remember hearing it on my little radio when I walked home from school, or in the summer at the pool, and just at home with my mom.
In “Through the fire” she mastered! 🥰
Definitely!!
@J Smooth Oh yeah! Prince did it 1st.... getting old 🤣
Hello Lydia im your subscriber, you have a nice taste congrats and thank you
Yes!! I agree!! Love me some Chaka Khan!
Maybe someone has already mentioned this, but remember Chaka and Rufus? Her voice is an incredibly powerful instrument. Absolutely stunning. She’s so gifted. 💕 💕 💕 Chaka forever!
She is a MONSTER talent. She is one of the GOATS! Aside from her massive talent, this song was perfected by the writers, musicians, and producers! Dig into her catalog!
The depth and sultry vocal range of Chaka will never be matched !
Prince called Chaka his muse...that's how much of a Goddess she is. Check out her song, "Wha cha gonna do for me?" It'll floor you.
Y'all just discovering one of the GOATS !! Chaka Khan has a very powerful voice. She started off in the early 70's with the group "Rufus" React to "I'm ever woman" "I feel for you" "Sweet Thing "
Yeah I have always said I preferred the Rufus featuring Chaka Khan songs!
You guys might like Lisa Stansfield, “All around the world” official video version.
Saw Chaka not long ago in concert and she still sounds amazing. We were all up dancing the whole time. You can't sit still when Chaka is saaaaangin' 🎶❤
Everyone that said go listen to "Feel for You" is correct. It's one of her all time best recordings. She was another favorite in the Discos in the 70's. We had the best music.
It’s not better than Through The Fire or Ain’t Nobody
@@TheLuscious Through the Fire’s the one! I still play that one over, and over, and over! Love it...
Love Me Still is a great song by her
"I'm Every Woman" and "I Feel for You" are great too. But go back to the 1970s when she fronted for Rufus and blew everyone away with "Tell Me Something Good".
This song is featured on Breakin when Ozone & Turbo teach Kelly "Special K" how to breakdance.... This is why the 80's the best decade ever hands down!!!!
Rest in peace Ozone
And then you have Ozone & Turbo featuring in the video for Chaka Khan - I Feel For You. ❤️
Young brothers hearing the Queen of 80's dance for the first time. Still sounds fresh.
It’s hard to believe you never heard of her! She is a living legend.
They are young guys
I agree! Like where were the cleaning up Saturdays listening to moms old Skool music!! Lol!! My babies are little & they definitely know Anita baker & shalamar! Most days all you can listen to is your parents music In front of your kids because everything is soo vulgar even with the clean versions.

This song is so smooth and soulful at first then it slowly crescendos into the stratosphere.
What a voice , right up there with Aretha & Tina . I miss the 80's
Teen Marie “Square Biz”! Evelyn “Champagne” King “Shame”!
"shame" banging tune..
And Teena's "Lover Girl!
SQUARE BIZ!!
Teen Marie really?
I vote for Shame
She def ruled the 70’s & 80’s as an R&B singer. You should listen to her song “I feel fo you” featuring Grand Master Flash( rapper )

Decades later, this still gives me goosebumps. I’ve been known to break out into a dance anywhere, anytime I hear this song. Loved watching you discover the one and only Chaka Khan 💕
Same! From the first time i heard it driving home from work, 1984

I can't imagine life without "I Feel For You"
I remember buying the single In 1984.....
Written by Prince, too!
Yep exactly
Yet somehow I’ve survived after listening to that song as a teenager
Yes!
You MUST hear Chaka Khan “Through the Fire” as well, one of her most famous songs like this one. And she takes you away with her vocals on that one too. She can SANG if you know what I mean
This is definitely a banger
And then Through the Wire by Kanye who sampled it!
One of the best!
"Through the Fire" was one of my songs when I was in college and I was having relationship drama.
Didn’t care for that one
You guys are doing something brilliant by visiting all this music history, and most of it is music that is from when I was in my teens, 20s and 30s. So it's all "my music." And so nice to revisit it all. It makes me wonder what it would be like for someone in their 70s like me to do a FIRST TIME HEARING on current music. I wouldn't even know where to begin. I know that every generation has it brilliance, so I know it is there, just don't know where to find it.
what-you don't listen to any modern music??im nearly 60-but listen to stuff that i like.i'm not just stuck to listening to 70s and 80s music.i dont listen to pop though-but have my preferences
When she hits those high octaves, I get goosebumps. Love her!
Omg!!! Chaka is the baddest that ever did it!!! It takes 7 or 8 singers to do what Chaka does by herself!!!! And she can sing all the genres!!! Glad y’all expanding y’all horizons!!!
I’m with everyone else. “tell me something good” is a must and you will download it and try to figure out that rhythm change like I have been for the last 40 years. “Through the Fire” after that.
Man, I forgot how much I love this song, I haven't heard it in so long. One of the all-time greats.
