The original song was written because the author went to a concert and heard Don McLean sing "Vincent" and this was the listener's reaction to hearing him!
Damn you boys GOT IT!! expand your minds!! THIS WAS MY JAM IN THE 90S!! Been LOVING seeing your trips down musical history!! Sending much love and support, small town gal in NH
It's weird to me that they don't know the Fugees. How do they have a picture of Tupac on the wall, but don't know the Fugees? I almost feel bad for the current generation, they missed out on one of the greatest eras in music, particularly R&B and hip hop.
As someone who's loved singing since a child, but never let's people hear her, this movie and Lauren’s character cuts deep and still brings me to tears.
2 months before my son was killed this came on the radio and he turned it up lol he could not believe I knew the words! I sang her part to the top of my lungs along with my son driving in the car! Brings tears to my eyes watching another generation learning new music 🎶 thank you 😊
@@angelazuzu She definitely did! Lori Lieberman's version is more of a folk song, Roberta Flack made it famous (hers is my favorite), but I think Lauryn Hill really made it her own in an amazing way. Just a great song all around.
Got to see the most perfect Ms. Roberta Flack sing this and accompany herself on piano, many many moons ago, in a world apart from today. No doubt one of the smoothest, most soul felt concerts of my life.
@@shibalover54 I saw Roberta Flack sing at an outdoor concert many years ago. In the middle of this song, this song, of any it could have been, the amplifiers lost power. She just kept on singing, clear and strong. I had to strain to listen, but could still hear her, even in that big, flat, open, area. If it was indoors, I'll bet even the back row would have heard. Power was restored just before the song ended. I'll never forget that show!
React to “Killing Me Softly With His Song” by Roberta Flack. And feel how go back to basics can make you feel the music flow through every pore in your body.
At first: who hasn't heard the fugees killin em softly? Later: looked up release of song Then: looked at the ages of the reaction gurus and realized the song came out before they were born Conclusion: im getting old
I love that the kids who missed the short, amazing career of the fugees get to discover their music for the first time- make sure to also check out the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill!!!!
I was in elementary school when this song came out in 1973 Killing Me Softly by Roberta Flack....and redone by the Fugees with lead Lauryn Hill in 1996..they did a great job, love it.
Im 33 and I loved the reaction. Much respect to you guys. Share these Gems young kings, we need the vibe from these hits. Soul 🎶 Music that feeds the heart.
You guys should watch the movie Sister Act 2. Lauren Hill (the singer of The Fugees) plays one of the main characters and sings in it. It's funny and has some great singing.
They could react to some of the musical numbers from the movie like Oh Happy Day, His Eye is On the Sparrow and of course Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee. Gives me goosebumps!!
You've never heard of The Fugees!?!?!? They were EVERYTHING! I owned this CD and scratched it listening so many times. How Many Mics, Fu-Gee-La, Ready or Not(!!!!!!!)...you must listen! Also if you've never listened to Lauryn Hill you need to listen to her debut in full. Every song is a banger, I promise! Wyclef Jean's album The Carnival is also good, he sings in Hatian, he does a great song using Staying Alive by the Bee Gees...it's so good
I don't understand how you've never heard this before. Where are parents, aunties and uncles to show you the way? I am shocked! I am glad you are learning. Sheeeesh!
IKR.....I have been wondering esp since I'm from the G too. Does anyone know if they have ever said what music was played in the house?? Hmmm my lil ones had to listen to gospel for a long while. Maybe its something similiar.
Hey guys, I'm using my daughter's UA-cam account. I'm 51 years old and all I have to say is "You are without a doubt awesome" I love your enthusiasm for all types of music. God bless y'all!
I looked for this type of comment I wondered if I had been singing it wrong for years but it made no sense. There was a bunch of other wrong lines. “Afraid he would stop” it’s “praying he would stop” or something close.
Had to physically prove to my young teen daughter, who I had never lied to in her life, that this, while great, wasn't Lauryn Hill's song, but Roberta Flack, and once I showed I was telling the truth, she STILL got mad. Lol
Masterofsparks Hwy6 same story here with half the songs used on the talent shows on TV, and the songs sampled on hundreds of rap tracks. The good part of that is when you hear a song you disliked as sung by the original artist, but love it as tweaked by a new artist.
My dad played the original version for me when this came out. Both versions have their own beauty but even after all these years I have to say... Lauryn and The Fugees brought this song to LIFE! ❤️
Black radio has failed us- when these lil youngins don't know these artists or their classics. Radio and video introduced us to all the legends who came before us when we were growing up....and where are your parents WTH! But it's cute tho, at least you're learning smh
Kids today don't listen to the radio like we did. We heard these incredible songs from a fairly wide scope over and over and over. They find their music on social media, streaming services, and video gaming: Tik Tok, Instagram, UA-cam, Snapchat, Twitch, Roblox, etc... often used as background. So while we were "served" playlists on limited channels and platforms (radio, TV, cable, Albums/Tapes/Cds/Videos/DVDs), they have far more options (extensive media, endless sites) - the world has opened up.
I’m feeling some kinda way right now. And I need to have a convo with y’all parents! HOW ON EARTH HAVE YALL NEVER HEARD THIS SONG OR THIS GROUP BEFORE??!!! It wasn’t THAT long ago and plus they went like quadruple platinum and then Lauryn went solo and sold even more with her debut album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.” She won 5 Grammys for it. I’m not just mad because they are from around my way. I’m mad because y’all claim to love hip-hop. You can’t love something you don’t know. You should at least know the biggest hits in its history and this is one. The whole album is FIRE 🔥 Anyway, keep exploring. I enjoy your reactions.
When this song came out the kids couldn't believe that the old parents knew the words and sang along. It was in the minivan going to the beach I remember it like it was yesterday. What they didn't know was this was a remake of the great Roberta Flack's song. We never let on they just thought we were hipper than they thought. Today the kids are 39 and 36 and have there own kids so you know how old my ass is. I'm a subscriber and love what you boys are doing. As a white family I thought the kids were really trying to shock us but we fooled them. Still makes me laugh thanks for the memory.
My babysitter who was 15 at the time was blown away, (like literally had her mouth hanging open!) The song came on the radio and she thought it was brand new and I knew all the words! Of course I had to give her a little music lesson after the song was done lol
"I've never heard a hip hop beat, and she singing to it" The evolution of a genre. Its aleays refreshing to take a step back, to recognize where you're currently at. Long live hip hop
"Fugees I don't know who you are, I never heard of y'all in my life."

Same, but I’m also glad that it starts with Lost Ones
WORD
The first beat dropping is from a Tribe Called Quest - Bonita Applebaum. Y'all should do that one
Wasn't there a lawsuit involving that and it turned out they both actually stole it from Enya?
Edit: I'll leave this up cause it's important to own it, but I had the wrong song. That was Ready Or Not. These guys should do that one as well. Brilliant song
Any Tribe Called Quest yo
Tribe first three albums. Front to back
This album "The Score" is one of the best albums of the 90's, of any genre. Another great song from it to check out is "Fu-Gee-La."
They need to run through the whole album!!
That’s what every generation says lol It’s quite possible to know Tupac and not the Fugees. They’re totally different genres
@@Queenme1-t3q uh...they're both hip hop.
I’m just floored by there willingness to embrace, new to themselves, music. They are priceless!
Don’t feel bad, these guys bring hope. Just watching them is a joy! Good music is safe with them.....I’m encouraged!
Pac is a legend...Pac is like Dr.King...UCB offered a class on Pac. Pac is a genius. My 88 yr old Mother know Pac..
Fact: Lauren Hill the female singer also starred with Whoopi goldberg in Sister Act 2.
Still love that movie
Ohhh happy day!
Classiccccc.
As someone who's loved singing since a child, but never let's people hear her, this movie and Lauren’s character cuts deep and still brings me to tears.
THAT WAS HER IN THE MOVIE??!! :D
Just made sister act 2 cooler than it already was.
Lauryn's voice in this song always gives me goosebumps
If you haven't heard the original by Roberta Flack, check it out.
Absolutely!
Roberta Flack was a remake. This is the original: ua-cam.com/video/mSYq0sNSAkA/v-deo.html
Jennifer Peterson right, I had forgotten about that.
Underrated comment. Also, if they like Fugees, they should also be listening to Digable Planets.
@@JPetersonMusic Thank you! I thought it was Roberta, too.
Whitney and Fugees all in one day?! Lord, you are killing US softly! Love these reactions! ♥️
This version of the song samples “Bonita Applebum” by A Tribe Called Quest. Straight 90s hip hop!!
Really? I did not know that.
2 months before my son was killed this came on the radio and he turned it up lol he could not believe I knew the words! I sang her part to the top of my lungs along with my son driving in the car! Brings tears to my eyes watching another generation learning new music 🎶 thank you 😊
Lauren Hill is a Goddess. It’s crazy how beautiful her voice was. Remember in Sister Act when she sang? I remember being blown away even then
Oh yeah guys! This is a cover from Hill...Roberta Flack did it originally. This is a banger! 😄..1 time..2 times
Love this version
Actually Roberta’s is a cover also if you’ll believe it.
@@eaqua56 - but Roberta made it famous.
@@angelazuzu She definitely did! Lori Lieberman's version is more of a folk song, Roberta Flack made it famous (hers is my favorite), but I think Lauryn Hill really made it her own in an amazing way. Just a great song all around.
I hope these young men are picking up on how none of this is Auto-Tune. She's doing all that fancy vocal stuff with her own voice naturally.
Got to see the most perfect Ms. Roberta Flack sing this and accompany herself on piano, many many moons ago, in a world apart from today. No doubt one of the smoothest, most soul felt concerts of my life.
They definitely do, they’ve commented on that before
This is the main thing I keep telling my kids. My generation’s music and before was without assistance-al natural.
Song suggestions:
Carl Thomas And Faith Evans: Can’t imagine ; Supersonic; Candy Girl; Rock= Pour some sugar on me
@@shibalover54 I saw Roberta Flack sing at an outdoor concert many years ago.
Best version ever by Roberta, that Lady sings like an Angel,,,
I said that too.
Roberta Flack's version makes my whole body ache, it's so good.
At first: who hasn't heard the fugees killin em softly?
Later: looked up release of song
Then: looked at the ages of the reaction gurus and realized the song came out before they were born
Conclusion: im getting old
Man The Score was released in 1996. Doesn’t feel that long ago!
I love that the kids who missed the short, amazing career of the fugees get to discover their music for the first time- make sure to also check out the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill!!!!
Next up: TLC - Waterfalls if you haven't yet already. Great song.
Yes, brilliant suggestion!
Yes! Do that one! Sadly one member died
Also 'Kick You're Game' by TLC as well.
I was in elementary school when this song came out in 1973 Killing Me Softly by Roberta Flack....and redone by the Fugees with lead Lauryn Hill in 1996..they did a great job, love it.
I think these fellas need to “Call Tyrone” lol
Just came to say this!
They probably don't know who badu is 🤣🤣🤣🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
Right Mrs Badu is amazing
Ha ha haaaa!!! I almost spit out my coffee.. 😆 omg 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Im 33 and I loved the reaction. Much respect to you guys. Share these Gems young kings, we need the vibe from these hits. Soul 🎶 Music that feeds the heart.
Amen!
You guys should watch the movie Sister Act 2. Lauren Hill (the singer of The Fugees) plays one of the main characters and sings in it. It's funny and has some great singing.
Yes! Love that movie, especially because she’s in it. Whoopi Goldberg too I guess 😉
They could react to some of the musical numbers from the movie like Oh Happy Day, His Eye is On the Sparrow and of course Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee. Gives me goosebumps!!
Awesome movie!
@@katiesoderling3596 yes! Her voice singing His Eye is on the Sparrow is amazing.
I bet if they search up “Joyful joyful sister act 2” they could react to it b
You've never heard of The Fugees!?!?!? They were EVERYTHING! I owned this CD and scratched it listening so many times. How Many Mics, Fu-Gee-La, Ready or Not(!!!!!!!)...you must listen! Also if you've never listened to Lauryn Hill you need to listen to her debut in full. Every song is a banger, I promise! Wyclef Jean's album The Carnival is also good, he sings in Hatian, he does a great song using Staying Alive by the Bee Gees...it's so good
Yeah check out Fu-Gee-La, Ready Or Not & How Many Mics
Renee 👀
Ready or not, here I come! ♥️♥️♥️ The Fugee's are a fantastic choice! Erika Badu!
The Carnival I played over and over again, was 14 or 15 then.
Yes!! The Fugees and Miseducation of Lauren Hill were sooo good! I wore those CDs OUT! I miss those days 😭😭😭
Lauryn Hill was the girl in Sister Act Ii. What a talent.
If they've never heard this, they've surely never seen that. *lol*
@@SilverFlame819 they should tho
She was also on a soap opera too
I don't understand how you've never heard this before. Where are parents, aunties and uncles to show you the way? I am shocked! I am glad you are learning. Sheeeesh!
Right!!!!
I was just thinking this!
Because they think a good female rapper is Cardi B. or Nikki Minaj. They don't know that Lauryn is the OG!
IKR.....I have been wondering esp since I'm from the G too. Does anyone know if they have ever said what music was played in the house?? Hmmm my lil ones had to listen to gospel for a long while. Maybe its something similiar.
At a time when everything is doom, y’all add some joy. I appreciate you.
You guys are cute! You should do The Roots and Erykah Badu’s “You Got Me” another great song from the time.
Classic
Tyrone...
Mamaduck yaaasssss
Yessss!!!!!!
Man!!!!
I remember this and "Crossroads" by Bone Thugs playing back to back every morning on MTV while I'd get ready for school. Good times.
Me: What?! You've never heard the Fugees? This just came out, like, um...oh...oh dear god...I'm old AF.
Seriously. Time, please stop.
Girl. You don't realize it until you check the year that the album was released 😆
ikr!? 🤣 😂 😅 😭
Hey guys, I'm using my daughter's UA-cam account. I'm 51 years old and all I have to say is "You are without a doubt awesome" I love your enthusiasm for all types of music. God bless y'all!
You gotta listen to “If I Ruled the World.” You just...you just have to.
👍
and Ready or Not.
Please
Katrina Hawkins :imagine that!🎹
You can't tell me they haven't heard that?🤦♂️
I love watching yall’s reactions! Makes you fall in love with these great songs all over again!
The beat reminds me of “Tennessee,” by Arrested Development, a song about slavery. It always makes me cry - hip hop making me cry.
Love Arrested Development! Would love to hear the twin react to some of their stuff (Mr Wendal is my personal favourite)
@@juliedawson8027 People Everyday is also amazing
Oh, that would be a GREAT one.
I agree. "Tennessee " is a great , moving song that packs a punch.
JP M , YES PLEASE. Tennessee 👏🏻❤️
Check out the movie Sister Act 2, Lauren Hill sings her ass off in it.
Diane Darrow one of my favorite movieeessss!!! She was so beautiful could sing and act omggg
A forEVER favorite!
Listen to the entire album. It's one of the best albums of all time.
Lyrics were wrong. The one part is “embarrassed by the crowd”, not “in there was a vital crowd”😂
This bothered me so much I had to see if someone had mentioned it! Lol
Thank you lol
Me too!
and “I prayed that he would finish” not afraid that he would finish. some weird lyrics in this video 🙈
I hoped someone pointed this out 😂
I'm like how they never heard this, this not even old. Oh yeah, it is about 30 years old, time flies.
Exactly!
But, just think about it...1990 is as distant as 2050!
Another one y'all would enjoy is "The Rain" by Missy Elliott!
I second this!!! So ahead of its time!! That one still gets me!
Oo! Bout to put this on rn
I felt all flushed with fever...next lyric should be
“Embarrassed by the crowd..”
All the wrong words were killing me!
You caught that too? Had to take a double look cause they almost had me doubting myself!!! (And I remember the original when it came out!) 🤣
I looked for this type of comment I wondered if I had been singing it wrong for years but it made no sense. There was a bunch of other wrong lines. “Afraid he would stop” it’s “praying he would stop” or something close.
I read those lyrics like, “D’oh!”
Time stamp 3:20 for those looking for it like me. I don't know how they got the words wrong.
Love it! 46 years old having fun with these boys!
A big significance with this songs beat is it’s relation to Tribe Called Quest’s “Bonita Applebum”. You need to peep that, as well. Peace!
Yesssss
that Asian Percussion Sample gives both tracks extra heat.
you know ya gotta put me on
“I’ve never heard a hip hop beat where they’re singing to it”
Huh!?! Were these kids raised in a bunker that just got discovered?
Lol... ikr
They ain’t never heard left and right with d’angelo and red n meth🤦🏻♂️😩
There's no music like this anymore gotta teach the new gen whats up
Thats why I never believe any of this first time reactions smh
Bone thugs, thuggish ruggish bone.
Had to physically prove to my young teen daughter, who I had never lied to in her life, that this, while great, wasn't Lauryn Hill's song, but Roberta Flack, and once I showed I was telling the truth, she STILL got mad. Lol
Masterofsparks Hwy6 Because parents are supposed to be wrong. How dare you be right! 😂
Technically Lori Lieberman’s song. And you should play her the song it was written about- Empty Chairs by Don McLean.
@@katherinemorelle7115 wow really? Yeah i didnt know that. Dont tell my kid, ill never hear the end of it.
I grew up on funk, house and r and b. Im mexican. Love it all. They need to hear Earth wind and Fire - Reasons.
It's only trap now on radio
im glad i grew up with all genres of music oldschool too & just turned 16
Their grandparents were Religious the house they grew up in and didn't allow this type of music to be played or listen to
I’m feeling some kinda way right now.
The whole album is FIRE 🔥
Anyway, keep exploring. I enjoy your reactions.
idiots
mrbigbosskojak chill, simp.
mrbigbosskojak how are you calling them idiots for not hearing something that came out before they was born Atleast there listening now
@@Stonecoldalston 👏
Yes that’s what I’m saying .. like how their parents don’t play this also who never saw sister act ?? lol Lauryn Hill
Ok, you all made this grandma have to get her dentures back outta the jar and slap them puppies back in so I can sing too! 😂💖
😁😁

And Roberta's rendition was a remake of a Lori Lieberman song ...
too funny
@@seattlesix6 - Really? Oh man! I'll have to look that up.
It definitely bridged the musical gap between us and our parents. What a great story.
Confident genuine woman not worried about the world with a little funk to her, pretty hard to resist that.
If you liked this one, I bet you're gonna like "If I ruled the world" song from Lauryn and Nas.
"I've never heard a hip hop beat, and she singing to it"
The evolution of a genre. Its aleays refreshing to take a step back, to recognize where you're currently at. Long live hip hop
Was a little girl in the 1970s when the amazing Roberta Flack recorded this. Lauren Hill recorded it just as stunningly.
Me too! Feel old but these kids make my heart happy with their appreciation and enthusiasm. Great kids!
Same!! 🙋🏻♀️ Facts!!
She sings it silky smooth ~~~~~~~
You boys rock
“That Thing” by Lauryn Hill (she’s the singer in killing me softly) The lyrics will get you man.
Lauren hill is a god-dess. ✌️
♥️ That song!!
This is a BANGERRRR you need to hear this!!!! X
Mmm yes. That Thing is delicious.
