Awesome John, went through the same crap as you in my early 40's. Went through a divorce in 2006, father died, moved into basement of my mom's house, with two young kids. Instead of a post traumatic stress experienced I turned it onto a post traumatic growth experience. Worked my but off and was able to retire at 52. Cheers.

Great job John, at 64 I decided I needed to focus on myself, started eating healthier, hit the pool three days a week, down 50lbs!
Besides keeping the weight off, my goal is to dress classier daily so your fashion videos are a must see. I have the energy I had in my 30’s so you are correct, you are never to old.

Had my moment of truth in my 20s when I realized that the only person I could count on is me. I left the job my father “planned” for me, went to grad school on my own dime, and started a new career. Along the way I dated many beautiful women, but did not allow any of them to derail my goals of success or to simply “tag along” but insisted on a woman who was similarly interested in developing herself. At 42, I married a physician who had a similar self reliant experience in her life. Our 25th anniversary this year. Know your worth, stay the course and don’t “settle”.

Social isolation helped me to realize a bunch. Went into therapy, started jogging and practicing more than ever (I’m a pro musician). I’m about getting rid of overweight, performing, feeling and LOOKING my best in years! And I’m enrolling law school next January at my 47. I’ve learned a lot in this channel.

Great message John, thriving after 40 rather than just surviving! I meet plenty of guys over 40 who just accept their lot in life (career, body shape, health) after 40, boggles my mind, we've so much time still left in life to build the Life, career and strong bodies we dream of. Kudos to you for grabbing life by the balls still :-)

Awesome video. The last year has been a challenge: I lost my job, my mother died, I had a falling out with my verbally/emotionally abusive father, my wife survived a heart attack, and I turned 50. All of these events triggered a midlife crisis, which I'm doing my best at dealing with in a healthy way.
I've been in such a rut with how I conduct myself, how I dress, how I live my life that I'm now taking inventory of everything that I'd like to change. Thank you again for posting this!

@40OverFashion I can not express my gratitude enough for this video. I'm 42, I had the big stick of life beat me to near submission in the last 2 years, loss of my Dad suddenly, now caring for my mother, my relationship ending, un-employed and now living at my Mum's place in total despair.
With the help of your videos, with their clear information and suggestions - I've got an idea to be self employed, I went and purchased a shirt (I even tried it on before buying - first one I have purchased in 15 years) and I even had a date! Thank you for helping me to voluntarily get off the 'trash heap' and to start imagining a reinvented version of myself is possible.
It struck home seeing your passion for what you believe and strive for - something I had given up with for over decade. Your emotion is strong enough to wake a similar hope and gratitude in those of us who had given up. A sign of a true gentleman.
    Cheers chap!

John, You remind me of my Grandfather, Italian immigrant who worked hard 5 day a week almost his entire life with his handsHe was a talented craftsman with a European sense of style. Although he was a stone mason, when he was not at work he wore dress cloths and has his haircut every Saturday. His cloths were mostly tailor made and like you he was bless with great hair and good looks. As a boy I remember watching the care he took of himself. When he walked into a room you could see the ladies and how aware they were of his presence. Except for his wife beater, he didn’t own a T-shirt. He taught me to dress like a boss, and people would see you that way and before long you will become a boss. I always listened to him his advice was priceless. You do carry yourself the very same way. I’ll bet Italy was a wonderful place to become a man.

I’ve hit rock bottom and slowly pulling myself out of this quick sand called life.
I took a leave of absence from my job of 20 years
to work on self development and it’s a scary yet exciting adventure.
I have a long journey ahead of of me. I have lost 30lbs and have min 60lbs to go. I like wearing nice clothes and that’s one of my goals to get in shape.
I’ve never been more happier and so proud of the mini accomplishments taken.

At 08:00 on this vid today you hit me like a brick - a good brick: "It's never too late.... you're never to old... to make a change in your life - or start something new.' - Thanks for your vulnerability too - real men show their emotion - you hit it! So amazing, good word thank you. I mentor young men daily, so I have many Gen Z's and Millenials in my life, who I out age by 35 years sometimes. Thanks for helping me look my best so that I can continue to relate to them in the way they long for the most: With Authenticity. - Thanks again for all your hard work. - Mark Edward

Legend. Good Sunday Morning, John. I love Thursday video. It spoke to me. I feel like I've been on a journey since the tender age of 40. I'm turning 46 next month and I've already made some improvements in my life; Moved to the Nation's east side, New job (I just received a raise after 1.5 years working 👍🏿) losing weight by changing my diet, sporting better clothes and footwear, and getting out and experiencing life while at the same time holding on to my values and principles. I used to be reckless with money when I was in my twenties. The most smart thing I did was invest in a 401k in my old job and it's grown okay. My goal is to be better prepared financially after paying off my debts. I did see the video of you talking about how you lost everything, that's when I felt the connection to you. You're just a regular human being trying to do the best he can while helping other guys 40 & up be better. Thank you so much, John. I hope you find this long comment very well 🙏🏿🙂💙🫂🤜🏿🤛🏻

Hey John enjoyed your material here, you even got alittle emotional there towards the end. One observation I have made as I move into my early 40s is that now I find myself living and struggling with REALITY. This is an important fact because I think at earlier points in my life I was not, maybe because of youthful naïveté but regardless dealing with the world as is and not entertaining any sort of fantasies is where I want to be at this stage. Thanks again for the video.

In 2014 at 42, my mum pasted away, I went through a divorce and lost over 75% of my assets and net worth, I was working stupid long hours, all the stress accumulated and reactivated a dormant virus from my childhood and I lost 75% of my eyesight.
I had to force retire early had no income coming in, my 2 kids were at private school and I really fell into a black hole. I was on the 11th hour of ending my life.
I then thought what am I about to do to my kids my dad and friends. My pain isn’t worth doing that to then
I thought “ don’t get better get better”
It wasn’t easy but I rebuilt life over a few years to where I now I Now the fittest and healthiest I’ve ever been even though I’m still Vison impared.
I run a successful life coaching business and I found love again.

I appreciate all your videos and tips. It might be because we’re almost the same age and Seattle guys but I’ve been through quite a bit myself and it hasn’t been an easy journey. We keep going to improve ourselves. Thanks for making these awesome videos.

We are about same age and even though I come with a total different background it sounds like weve been through same life events, chronologically matching! You deliver your message perfectly and feels like you are a mouth to me and to a lot of other guys here. You are doing great job, you are real and genuine no bells and whistles not trying to to be someone you are not. And for that I appreciate your work. Cheers to the many more healthy productive years to come John. God bless.

Hi John. I guess one way that I have reinvented myself is to try and be more outgoing and not care so much what other people think . I used to kind of tip toe around always afraid of saying the wrong thing so I said nothing at all. So whether right or wrong that's how I roll these days. BTW judging by the pictures you are as they say aging like a fine wine.Keeps getting better. Peace. 🙂

Very well said John. Funny how I was thinking about what you said a few days ago. How through life experience what I value and do not is something that hit home for me in today's video.
It's something to see how you and your group of friends ( if you have been friends for a long time ) have evolved and changed but are the same people deep down inside. For most, your core values do not change. I'm happy who I've become at age 58.
Time to live and keep on living as long as possible.

Legend. Great video and from the heart. You are right, I am not the same person I was at 20. I was in the Air Force eager to see the world. Today I try to take better care of myself and enjoy the journey. Work is important but there is more to life.

I never thought I would say this to a “stranger” that I watch on YT that it’s fun to watch you continue to grow and follow your passion and be successful and inspirational to so many of us. I really admire your determination. Your 100% correct that you can alway re-invent yourself, not matter your age. I don’t know you, but seeing your “transformation” is really inspiring, and you make a difference to so many it what you do, you should really feel proud of what you give to others, it’s great to see. Glad I found this channel and have gotten to know you through your channel. God bless you brother, and keep of the great work.

You always bring great content to the table. I've learned quite a bit from you, but hearing your testimony about your difficult past, and the last 30 seconds of this video.....thats what I appreciate about you and your channel the most. That level of honesty and transparency. Keep fighting and moving forward brother. Keep setting the example, for those of us that need that hope and inspiration. Respect.
