- 20 years worth of footage of the Southern Resident Orcas of Puget Sound. This is all taken from Lime Kiln Point, San Juan Islands Washington. These Orcas (and many other marine animals) face problems in the wild including pollution and diminishing food sources. amazing! simply amazing and outstanding. Thank you!!!
Great Video, i Make the trip north 4hrs from lakewood for the last 4 years to this are, i love it up there. But i still have not seen them in person yet, i usually go there towards the end of summer, do you recommend a specific time of year that would increase your chances of seeing them? i usually go to Lime Kiln Park, near the Light House. on the West Side of the Island.
The best time of year is usually during the months of May-August. This is when they are following the salmon runs up to the Fraser river and their course goes along right past Lime Kiln. It can always be a hit or miss on whether or not they will come through, so your best odds to see them would be to stay on the island for a few days, or to even book a trip with a whale watch boat. I know over the last few summers the numbers of sightings in the Lime Kiln area have been lower than usual as they have been spending more time in other spots like near Cattle Point on San Juan. And with any wild animal, your odds of seeing them will come down to luck since we can't always predict where they are going. Hopefully your next trip is more promising! Good luck, and thanks for watching.
Ah, ok Thank You... ill try heading up there alittle earlier this year. I usually head up there around Sept.
