Above all this, you're a bloody nice bloke! No ego, no BS, no fake influencer nonsense.... Lots of people watching your videos will feel represented and part of the "journey" you travel 😊👌 I'm glad you're getting the views and subs to earn a little bit back for the effort you put in.. I hope it continues to grow, Stu... Chapeau 😁👏🏼
Thanks I really appreciate that. I hope I do represent the average person. I'm all about just giving it a go, and being mid pack. I don't mind not being an amazing athlete, I just want to enjoy it 💪
Exactly this. If i ever get monetised, i'll be happy if i earn just enough to cover the cost of equipment i've purchased to enable me to make the videos. My youtube videos are made to keep me accountable more than anything, cos if i don't get off my ass, i can't make content haha. I'm still in that "i feel mega awkward in public" stage 🤣I am hoping that i eventually learn to not just waffle on and on in my videos, cos i don't actually know what to say hahaha.
Couldn't agree more Stu. We're not hear to make loads of money (well some of us aren't), and we get better as we go (hopefully). A little bit of money helps fund the journey and helps us make better videos. I'll get there eventually......
Yeh I think most is us just make youtube videos for the fun of it. I'd love to make millions but let's be realistic. I'm a middle aged overweight bloke so I don't think it's going to happen 🤣🤣
Couldn't agree more about "learning as you go". Doing research will only help so much, until you actually film and edit that first video you won't know what you need to improve on. Thanks for the insight, I'm excited to see the channel grow!
I'm definitely still learning as I go. I have no clue what I'm doing 🤣🤣 Hopefully one day il get it 🙈 It's all just a bit of fun and mistakes are part of the process. I've made a lot but I enjoy it so as long as I enjoy it. Il keep doing it. Hooe your keeping well 👊
Congrats on your first 6 months of being monetized! 🎉 It's so inspiring to see creators like you hitting these milestones. I'm working hard on growing my channel too and hope to have my own success story soon. Wishing you even more growth and success ahead!
good video. as a youtuber i haven't thought about monetization. just sharing my stories and run journey. appreciate the information was insightful. keep going 💯
I think that is the best way. I never thought about earning anything and it still isn't a motivator for me and hopefully people can see that. I just make videos for me and if other people watch then it's a huge bonus.
Well done Stu, its an achievement regardless of the amount you make, ive really just started on UA-cam and channels like yours are inspiring, Ive been doing my podcast for 4 years and made no money whatsoever ever but have now got a group of listeners and more importantly met loads of awesome triathletes and multisport athletes in general. Thanks for the insight and really enjoy your channel.
I think being part of a community is the best part about youtube. The positivity and commaradery I think is great. All I wanted to do is show that normal people do triathlons and we aren't all super athletes 👌
Brilliant work Stu, getting paid to put videos on the internet is nuts isn't it. A better laptop / internet / memory cards to make the processing side of videos faster was a big upgrade for me, but it takes some investment doesn't it. The £1k PA "side hustle" tax free allowance saves any tax faff as well. Keep doing what you enjoy and your channel will continue to grow. If you ever want to meet up for a ride / run just holla, I think UA-camr's call it a "collab" :D
Yeh it's absolutely crazy to earn some money from some waffling on the Internet . I still hate looking and hearing myself and I still feel like a wally making videos. 🤣🤣 And yeh we will have to sort a collab out at some point. I'm sure something will come together 👊
As someone looking to get a camera and do the same thing. I find your videos inspirational and this video may even get my missus to let me buy the camera 😂
Thanks for this very insightful. I think the enjoyment of creating/vlogging comes first and whatever comes of that is a bonus and that comes across in this video. Nice to know how it works and definitely a helps.. I think we'd all like to get paid for what we love to do and not have to do our 9-5s 😂 but either way that shouldn't stop us from doing it in the first place. Nice one and well done on all your work 👏
Yeh, I'm never going to make it big on UA-cam and that was never a goal of mine. I've never had a desire to earn money on UA-cam so hopefully that comes across on my videos that I'm just doing it all for my own enjoyment. A little bit of spending money is always just a nice little bonus.
Never going to earn alot and it's a long slow process but I enjoy it and that's the main thing. I never started the channel to make money but it's a lovely little bonus. Hopefully over time I will be able to grow the channel 👌
I just like to be honest and most people on UA-cam won't talk about money. But I thought it may be interesting as I've watched videos like this. As you know making videos is proper graft. It ain't easy that's for sure 👌
Getting paid for something you love doing, win win. Well done!! I can only dream of reaching that amount of subscribers 😂 Interesting to hear what you use to make your videos too. I don’t have a powerful enough laptop so do all my editing on my phone. A music subscription is also a good idea as there is a limited amount within an editing app. Great video Stu! 👍🏻
Yeh it's lovely to get a bit of money for something I would do anyway 👌 I never thought I would get 10 subscribers so I'm sure you will get there. I had 4 subs for the longest time 🤣🤣 My laptop sucks but using the cloud based editor means I can still just about make videos but can't do the fancy things like data over lays 🙈
Fantastic Stu, we all do it for fun and enjoyment, but a part of us all wants to reach that 1k sub/4k watch hours just to get some reward for the time we put into it. Congratulations and £194 or whatever it was is perfect! Its not a cheap hobby, monthly subscriptions for music and editing software. Btw, even with a macbook a decent editing package will be a subscription. Have you tried YT audio library for music? Its free and ive never had a problem with the music on it, i got fed up paying for epidemic sounds. Well done on reaching the YT partner goal!
I'd never thought about 1k subs but other people were more excited than me when I got close 🤣🤣 I am just humbled that anybody watches any of my videos and it's a success when I get one view. Anything more is a huge bonus. That's interesting to hear about the software on the mac book. I had in my head that it had software on it. Shows how little I know 🤣🤣🤣
Yeh I'm with you, I love watching other people's videos about stuff like this. It's weird to talk about money but it's nice that normal people like us can have a small following. It's a great community I think 👊
Good work Stu, very similar to what I earn, I get about £1.50 per video and then the odd spike on a video like your Iron Man 2024 video. But like you said it’s all about enjoying making the videos, the money is an extra bonus. If you thought about money all the time the videos wouldn’t be very good, all about being creative, keep up the great work!
Yeh the money is nice and I appreciate it but I would still make videos without it. I'm sure if I looked into algorithms and all that I could probably earn more but I just enjoy the small community that we have.
@ Yeah exactly, built up some supportive small communities which is nice. Plan is to go travelling at the start of next year but when I’m back we will have to meet up and do a collab at an event. Yeah I just press yes to monetised and that’s it. Not sure if that means there are mid roll adds though or whether you actively delete mid roll adds yourself. May need to look into that. The only thing I do notice is pay per view of my vlogs and running is much higher than gaming. No idea why 🤷🏼♂️
I wish I knew more about it. That way my channel would be loads bigger 🤣🤣 Just a big learning curve isn't it. I see great channels with 10 subs and I see awful channels with 100k subs. It just doesn't make sense to me.
I remember reaching 50 subscribers and I was so excited. I never thought I would get to 1k but they start rolling in. I still get a buzz when I get new subscribers, it's a weird addiction 🤣🤣 Imagine if you had to speak to 403 people in a room, it would be packed and terrifying 🙈

I bought some Neewer CM28 mics a little while ago. They are affordable, come as a set of 2 with a charging case, and if you use the function to record directly on the mic rather than using the transmitter/reciever then its not all that complicated either - its just an extra file for each mic to drag into your editor and sync up with the video.
I know nothing about laptops 🤣🤣 Everyone has been amazed I use a chromebook. I do need something else though as I want to do overlays and I just can't do it on this 🙈

Question: Do you feel any added pressure from being monetized to create more videos and pick video topics that are likely to do well? If yes, how do you deal with that? Like you, I started making videos more for myself to have something to look back on. But I notice that sometimes the YT dashboard, viewer numbers, subscriber thing is messing with my brain ("I need to grow", "I need to make more videos", "I need to do videos on topics that a large audience likes", etc). So far, I always come back down to earth and can have weeks, sometimes months I don't make any videos.
I don't feel any pressure now that I'm monetized. I never expected it to happen so it has never really bothered me. I still only make videos that I want to make and I don't really think about what will do well or what won't. Some of my videos do well and some of them don't, and that's OK. It's all just a bit of fun and it's not my day job. I feel that I'm never going to produce the greatest video so I work on quantity over quality. I don't wanna spend weeks making one video so I just put alot of videos out instead 🤣🤣
@@SwimBikeRunStu Thanks for the reply, mate! And good to hear you won't change what you're doing. I'd love to use more free stuff but mu laptop just won't allow it. It's just not could enough.
