V69ME delivers the smoothest and most balanced sound in my ears. The CR30 is a bit harsh in the trebles what makes it sound a bit sexier and more intimate when you sing the Norah-Jones-style. Also the CR30 reacts best to the aggressive impulses of your strumming. The V67G tames everything down a little. In my ears the weakest canditate. Great singing by the way!
+Tahrima Islam The clarity in the highs makes the CR30 sound really good for miking acoustic guitar. None of them sound bad, but no one mike is best on all sources.
None of them it's better, they are differents and perfectly usable for different genres, moods and applications for this guitar and playing the MXL69ME would be my choice, however if I making something more sad and more indie, kinda like life is strange vibes I would go with the V67G with out thinking too much, I see the MXL CR30 for something else but if you think it well, it's a good in-between of the others two, nice comparasion I really enjoyed!!
The V69 and the odd order harmonic of the tube smoothes out the "Whooo" in the lyric. 8:19 it's not too noticeable 8:33 hardly at all compared to the "Whoo" of the other to mics CR30 9:01 V67 9:30 This is the best practical mic shootout I've seen to date on You Tube. Excellent work Amanda Tee.
Seems like each mic has a place. I love the V69’s solid mid range, and lack of high-end hype. The CR30 seems like the pop choice, and the V67 seems to be brighter with less body and an upper-midrange bump.
I listened carefully.... My favourite is the 67. The CR30 is - at first glance - the most brilliant one, BUT it has a sizzling in sound. The 69 on the other hand is like a little bit dampended. So I would go for the 67 ... :-) When you record keep attention to the MIDS. There are manufacturers which try to get you by booming basses and dramatic highs. But this is not natural!!! Listen to Neumann mics. They give you an eveness on the whole spectrum. Maybe people think this is boring but this is the start for a producer to bend the tracks to whatever he/she has in mind. After recording there is mixing, putting in effects and finally mastering. So, you must deliver a boooooring tone (which is a tone showing evenly all frequencies). Having said this, my opinion is that the 67 model is the best of those three regarding eveness in frequency. I am in search of a Neumann alternative. Hopefully, I have found it in the MXL 2006 I ordered yesterday. What do you think all about this, would like to know :-)
Taking in consideration that v69 is twice the price of the v67.... I think V67 is very close and very nice sound hands down V67 is the best choice for me... Great video thanks!!
Kid, lemme tell you, I've been playing since Nixon was honest, and I'm truly impressed with your sweet singing, great strum and fingerpick techniques and those dynamite, all six strings-chord inversions that fill the air and my soul when you flawlessly execute the patterns. And, you did MXL a real solid with this product demo. I'm sure that they're pleased. If you write music, great! But, even if you don't there are many gifted songwriters who could collaborate to showcase your talent. And for the benefit of all, Master Bluesman Coco Montoya also plays a flipped guitar without mirrored strings. The guitar is after all, a TWO HANDED instrument and playing an inverted axe without re-stringing is obviously no handicap for gifted individuals.
I see this as proof that it depends on the track what works the best. the 69 sounds really pro on guitars and I liked the 30 on the last track. Liked the singing too! Cool shout out. I saw in the mic specs that the 30 is really linear.
First of all your really good, love your voice. ^_^ It really wasn't till you started singing that the different microphones jump out. The V69ME is clear, but sounds boring. The CR30 is bright, and really shines on vocals. The V67G brings more of the low mids and arounds out the highs to a more full warm sound. Overall great microphones, definitely each microphone are for different applications. I'm liking the V67G myself. ^_^
At some point I forgot this was a mic comparision and was absolutely taken by your magnificent voice! Thanks for shaing your talent. Also this is a superb microphone juxtapositions. I found the V69ME best on guitar as well as vocals for various reasons.
I just had to listen to all your music after coming across this comparison! I love your music! As far as my subjective observations, I really like the way the V69ME sounded! It has this really natural sounding high end that also flatters vocals. V67G, on the other hand seemed to be way more honest. I felt like it sounded more like intimate and real singing without the help of the mic. The CR30, sounded good too, but perhaps more cold and bright where V67G is on the other side being more dark and less bright. V69ME sounded more subjectively neutral to me, but somehow also made your vocals more lush. Ok, back to Bieber now.
Kris Roe from the ataris plays this way too. I’m left handed, but learned to play right handed because it’s all we had around growing up (right handed father who plays guitar.) wish I could play upside down like this though! Awesome.
Just downloaded your EP. Great work! Your voice and guitar playing make my mind go into a place where everything is possible. Thanks for your art Amanda!
Great comparison! out the 3, I least liked the cr30, it's too dry for my liking--almost sounding 'tinny'. The v67 sound great, pretty 'warm' in a good way, but it's lacking top-end extension just a tad more than I'd like. I'd easily take the v69ME, beautiful extension and neutral, listen to that midrange on the vocals!
Thank you for an amazing video, great comparisons all round... imo the "air" that the CR30 gives to your voice is amazing, they really work well together, even on the guitar the CR30 brought out the percussive side of the guitar amazingly well... The v69me had the most lows, the CR30 the most highs and the v67g was a nice mixture of the two... imo, v69me AND CR30 on instruments at the same time so you can have a full spread of frequencies and the v67g on vocals would be perfect... Just my 2c :)
V69 is the best imo. Less sibilant and more natural sounding although a bit boomy on the guitar. The two other mic have over hyped highs, especially the CR30.
Thanks to you, I got myself the V67 just over a while ago. For vocals - it's really crisp and for guitar I still need to work on it, I guess. Might be cause I like a certain sound and can only work with one. But yeah, all of these sound great :)
V69 seemed to be the biggest or loudest, V67 was the smoothest an my fav of the 3. cr30 was my least fav but had a nice clean vocal sound, the other 2 sounded superior in my opinion
V67g has more mid presence and seems to be accentuated by additional highs... being a FET this makes sense. V69 sounds the warmest, less highs. 67 for room and instruments, maybe vocals where articulation of words is critical... spoken word? 69 on vocals or groups of instruments. Both for re-micing digital instruments... resampling... vsts through any speaker picked back up with the 69 on the speaker and the 67 in the room would be something. Perfect example of the 3 mics. Please leave this up for future musicians to cone across!
Thank you for the microphone comparison but thank you even more for sharing your lovely voice and skillful guitar work. I am an accomplished songwriter, studio guitarist and recording producer. I own and/or have owned two of these mics. Currently I favor the V67 with a capsule swap for acoustic guitar. Frankly I enjoyed your music too much to be objective about the mic test.
wow, I had to watch it twice, at first I couldn't pay attention to the microphones :) But after all I liked the V67G best because it seems to have a better "intimacy", but the V69M seems to produce a more professional sounding voice. I didn't like the CR30 that much (though the extra highs are good on the guitar). Thanks for recording this video :)
@@davidmorrison7323 Due to the tube, heat rises into the diapragm, which causes distortion. By mounting upside down, the heat does not move unto the diapragm.
I really liked the v69 on vocals, the cr30 on guitars..the 67 is somewhere in between. the 69 seems a lot easier on the S's and T's in the vocals and warmer.

EXCELLENT and thanks.... but I did notice that your changing of positions in front of the mics. It changes the sound comparison in a very real way. It distracted me from believing all I was hearing.

Well done on the recordings. I liked the v69m, worked really well on the Norah Jones voicing. BTW what is the name of the piece you sang on that voicing style? Good luck with your work....
Youre a Lefty...so am I :) but Youre play a right handed guitar (upside down)....now That takes a Lot of talent, yet as such You know therefore that You hav a LOT of Options to choose from on All Right handed Guitars, and especailly that Lefty Guitars are SO VERY Limited on selection...good job Amanda
The v69m edt sounds sooo good. Unfortunately the price and the need to deal with the extra energizer box made it a no go for me. Luckily the much less expensive and easy to set up v67g has 85% of the sound of the v69 to my ears.
Thanks for the review, it helped me to make the decision to get mxl v67g on amazon..mxl v69 mogami sounds superb but not within my budget... i wonder how the mxl v67i will sound.. warm vs bright sounds available in mxl v67i
Listening on an ipad every mic sounds si and so to be honest. Got the v67 myself and its an ok mic but mayby not for recording a guitar specially not small body guitars with a bright sound. Put it behind as an ambient mic for guitar but be carefull when you blend it in.
Hendrix's strings weren't upside down, just the guitar body and neck. the strings were correct. Albert King's were upside down though. As you'll see, Hendrix's strings were correct: www.abc.net.au/news/image/8701164-3x2-940x627.jpg
What? lol You must not be a guitar player. Here's the deal...Hendrix originally started with stringing and playing as natural left, sanding the nut, low E on top, etc. Not long after he switched to playing a right handed guitar flipped over left handed without changing the strings (high E string on top) This is what I think you meant, but technically, that IS "upside down" stings and guitar...if you play guitar like 97.9% of the rest of the world it is anyway, lefty or righty, the low E is generally on top. Hendrix mostly played with low E on bottom. Fun fact, he was actually known for being "both handed" playing equally well flipped or strung left or right.
i'm a guitar player. Find me a picture of Hendrix playing with the strings in reverse, or a video, to how most people play. You can't. He had a right handed guitar flipped over, but restrung the standard way. Everyone knows that. That's why people say part of his tone come from there being more tension behind the nut on the high E and less on the Low E, because of how much string length was behind the nut. As i said, go find me a video of Hendrix playing with the strings like this lady in the video. Here's a video with some close ups. as you'll see, the strings are how most people would have them, despite the neck and body being upside down due to it being a right handed guitar - ua-cam.com/video/MwIymq0iTsw/v-deo.html or go to 6 mins 30 on this: ua-cam.com/video/wqLEg0MsSMQ/v-deo.html - it has another close up of the strings..
How far away are the mics from the guitar? Hard to tell . I have my 67g 12 inches from the 12th fret and it sounds incredibly boomy. Could be my room though.
