    About V for Vendetta:
From the Wachowski brothers and Joel Silver, the masterminds behind The Matrix trilogy, comes another intriguing, action-packed fantasy-thriller. Great Britain has become a fascist state. Now, a shadowy freedom fighter known only as "V" (Hugo Weaving) begins a violent guerrilla campaign to destroy those who have embraced totalitarianism. In his quest to liberate England from its oppressive ideological chains, "V" recruits a young woman (Natalie Portman) he's rescued from the secret police to join him on an epic adventure to execute a seemingly impossible task.

    V was born from Fire.
    Evey was born from Rain.
This movie is extremely underrated. One of the best superhero movies of all time. Does not get the recognition it deserves. Way ahead of its time.

I hate the phrase "underrated." It's so overused (and often wrong like here) that I wonder if it's a bot going around saying things are underrated. For what purpose I don't know.
*$70 million gross domestic, out of $134 million worldwide on a budget of $54 million.
*DVD sales by the end of 2006 totaled 3 million with $58 million in revenue.
*Hundreds of thousands of Guy Fawkes masked sold every year since the film's release with Time Warner getting a cut. (I have one.)
      *B+ Cinema score.
*73% on Rotten Tomatoes (fresh), 90% Audience score.
*Ebert and Roeper: Two thumbs up.
*No significant awards or award nominations (other than a Hugo nomination), so does that make it underrated?
Perhaps if it had debuted in November 2004 rather than March 2005? It's suggested that it was pushed back with an early screening in December due the London tube bombing, though they say it was due to special effects. Either could be true as it's been reported in the last couple years that the time allotted for VFX work is being underestimated in superhero movies.

Seeing V’s memorial to Valerie will always break my heart. The government told her that she wasn’t important, that she didn’t matter and would be forgotten, that killing her would have no consequence. But they were wrong. V made that memorial because there had to be someone in the world to remember her, someone to miss her, someone to love her. She was important she did matter and killing her is was what eventually ended up in their destruction.

The actor who played significant roles in both the 1984 film adaptation of George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four and in V for Vendetta is John Hurt. In Nineteen Eighty-Four, Hurt portrayed Winston Smith, the protagonist who is oppressed by a totalitarian regime. Conversely, in V for Vendetta, he played High Chancellor Adam Sutler, the tyrannical leader of a fascist government, effectively embodying the role of the oppressor.
Hurt's performances in these films highlight his ability to portray contrasting characters within the same thematic framework of authoritarianism and resistance. His role in V for Vendetta is particularly notable as it serves as a stark contrast to his earlier role in Nineteen Eighty-Four, showcasing the duality of human experience under oppressive regimes.

    I ask myself.
    Is Anarchy the real solution??
    What then….
In time, I believe, will be back to the start…
I believe, humans can’t rule themselves.

Hot Take: V is a Deadpool variant. Horrifically scared face, has heightened reflexes and regeneration, got his powers from an experimental facility which burned down to let him escape and from which he was the only truly successful subject. Always claims to not be a hero while always acting heroically. Hyper-sane, appearing to be insane while actually being the only one who sees the world as it truly is.
