    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
V (Hugo Weaving) breaks into BTN and speaks to the entire population about the problem with politics in London.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore, V for Vendetta takes place in an alternate vision of Britain in which a corrupt and abusive totalitarian government has risen to complete power. During a threatening run in with the secret police, an unassuming young woman named Evey (Natalie Portman) is rescued by a vigilante named V (Hugo Weaving) -- a caped figure both articulate and skilled in combat. V embodies the principles of rebellion from an authoritarian state, donning a mask of vilified would-be terrorist of British history Guy Fawkes and leading a revolution sparked by assassination and destruction. Evey becomes his unlikely ally, newly aware of the cruelty of her own society and her role in it.

The only way we are going to change it is by realising its the masses that can change all this injustice.

"Good evening, London. Allow me first to apologize for this interruption. I do, like many of you, appreciate the comfort of everyday routine, the security of the familiar, the tranquility of repetition. I enjoy them as much as any bloke. But in the spirit of commemoration, whereupon important events of the past, usually associated with someone's death or the end of some awful bloody struggle, are celebrated with a nice holiday, I thought we could mark this November the 5th, a day that is sadly no longer remembered, by taking some time out of our daily lives to sit down and have a little chat. There are, of course, those who do not want us to speak. I suspect even now, orders are being shouted into telephones, and men with guns will soon be on their way."
"Why? Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well, certainly, there are those who are more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable. But again, truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease."
"They were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now high chancellor, Adam Sutler. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent. Last night, I sought to end that silence. Last night, I destroyed the Old Bailey to remind this country of what it has forgotten. More than four hundred years ago, a great citizen wished to embed the fifth of November forever in our memory. His hope was to remind the world that fairness, justice, and freedom are more than words, they are perspectives. So if you've seen nothing, if the crimes of this government remain unknown to you, then I would suggest that you allow the fifth of November to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me, one year from tonight, outside the gates of Parliament, and together we shall give them a fifth of November that shall never, ever be forgot." - V

We can hate each other, we can hate what we say, we can hate the truth. But when we silence others, we deafen ourselves. Even as the loudest voices try to drown it in doubt, the truth remains and the truth will out. It rings true and can come from and be heard in any position. So to hear it, we must not attempt to silence or deafen, but do our best to listen.

The reality is, Hobbes is closer to the truth to the human condition than we dreamed of in our worst nightmares and he is spot on when it comes to the macro-scale (i.e. 'tribal' and 'ethnic' populates this scale). So, in truth, he is only causing a new group to take power and would learn from the flaws of the previous.
It also doesn't help that the assumptions and preconceptions of freedoms and rights (i.e. they're static entities) are wholly flawed as well, the reality of such is that rights and freedoms are fluid constructs, built upon the technological context of its period. As technology marches on, so do threats, and thus you have to (at times) rescind rights and freedoms in the process...

It becomes less subtle as the scene progresses, but I love how V's speech is ironically paralleled by real-time events at several points:
"I expect, even know, orders are being shouted into telephones..." Sutler calls Edgecombe
"There is something...terribly wrong with this country, isn't there?" Edgecombe deflects blame onto Sutler for the system's design
"You need look only in a mirror." Close-up shot from behind of Evey looking at V's face on the screen, like she's looking in a mirror
"All he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent." Lingering close-up of Finch
I know so many of these moments are ridiculously on the nose on second viewing, but it's still so much fun seeing how much thought and care went into editing this scene.

      It would go like this
Captain : SIR! THERE IS ONLY ONE GUY SHOWED UP SIR! WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT SIR! AHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAH!
Major : Calm yourself Major, i know that whoever do that broadcast one year ago has certainly failed. BUT...
      Captain : *BLAM* Done sir!
Major : BLOODY HELL! what are you doing? Oh my god! Three of you, drag that corpse out of here!
Captain : What's the matter sir?
Major : Shut your face i would have every single teeth of yours being scattered all over the road!
      Captain : ...yes sir!
Major : Now listen to me carefully you egghead. The HQ is just telling me that Creedy and Sutler just confirmed dead, and the bishop of london finally pass out after almost one year secretly still alive but in critical state. YOU MUST also remember that chief propagandist Lewis Prothero is very very dead. This leaves the party is in vacuum power state and let's be honest for a while here, there will be anyone who same deranged as creedy or other three in this whole country.
So, as norsefire esentially loses it's upper echelons. It is the more hot headed people, like people who you just shoot five minutes ago, to fullfill the role left by those four.
Whoever V was, we have no doubt that he was succeeded in his goals. The thing he conspirated since the last year has become a reality. We may win the battles, but he win the war.
Son, you may not felt it. But this is the night where britain finally have it's revolution. The future those people desires has finally come here, and with relief i must say that this regime finally has come to end.
And you foolishly shoot that people in middle of the street, if your own men does not drag that poor wankers to HQ basement then you will be fucked up by peoples tribunal.
Captain : Sir... thank you sir!
Major : Good. Now, as tomorrow will be become the first day of different era. I would like to know what's your plan for the years to come.
Captain : Well, sir. For many decades we have been ruled by a oppressive regime that does not allow anything be done except that helping their goal. I think i would help the people finally getting what they wan't, like justice or freedom.
      Major : Sure captain
Captain : ... and for you sir?
Major : i would probably retire and spent the rest of my days with my family. I haven't meet them for a very looong time. And i think you can help people get their needs with being in charge in more... civil institution after this, you know, being a young politicians or something...
Captain : sure sir. I always want to know how it feels like being one of the member of the legendary House Of Commons. Norsefires never allowed anyone even their own men entering that building since the first days they control this country. Too good V didn't blew up...
      *HOUSE OF COMMONS EXPLODES*
