  • Today we're comparing my personal bike, the 2019 Yamaha MT10, to the 2021 Yamaha MT-09sp loaner bike that we've had in the shop for a while. I'm curious to find out if a bigger engine automatically makes the MT10 better. Let's find out if it's time to switch!

MT09 is a lot better than the MT10. I have the 2022 MT09 and had the MT10 for 1 month. I have to say that the MT10 is really an overkill and not needed. Plus the MT09 is a lot better when it comes to agilty, fuel consumption and price

Hang out for the MT10sp. The Gen3 09 rules the upper middleweight roost but the Gen2 10, especially with the active Ohlins, is next level. You know you gotta at least try it...

MT09 will be my next bike for the sole reason it being lighter and more compact. If I wanted the bigger MT10, I'd go with the tracer 900 instead. But I wanted a lower seat height and lighter weight naked bike. I already have a tall KTM 690 SMCR so a shorter seat height would be a good addition that my current bike doesn't full fill. Although the KTM is much lighter and nimble.
And the power is way more than I need. I originally wanted the MT07 but I don't like it's looks. If the MT07 looked more like the MT09, I'd get that.

I test rode MT09 SP few months ago and it felt like that bike was much easier to turn and go faster in corners than the MT 10. It probably has to do with the weight difference and the fact that 09 SP had 180 tire in the back.

The torque the sound and the true potential, it’s simply in a different class. SP Versions are also nice as any special edition, but in either case, with that being said no matter the bike you need to wake them up to reach their potential, stock tunes meeting emissions regulations have manufacturers pinned down. Flash the ECU’s and install a real intake and exhaust and test them then.

It is not really a crossplane. Neither is the Cp2. It is just a sale gimmic. The reason they made the "crossplane" cp4 engine is to prevent 2. Vibrations (forces from the acceleration and deceleration of the piston in its rotating path). That is why the MT10 has such a smooth engine. A inline 3 will never be as smooth. It is physicaly impossible. Hope it helps :) sorry for my english @@JLondono86

Just to correct you, the MT09 does not have "the same crazy amount of power" as the MT10. What you completely forgot to mention in your 'critique', if I can call it that, is the amazing sound of the MT10's crossplane CP4 engine against the 3 pot drone from the MT09. If all you do is popping wheelies and the like, then that is not very representative of other MT10 owners. Too much chat and not enough about the bikes. From you little poll at the finish, your colleagues clearly have a better appreciation than you do.

I’m with 👇this first comment. Wait for the 10sp….my theory is this…. I 100% agree 09sp over current 10, buuuuuut….that R1 beast of a motor is the ONLY part of the 09 that I’d want from the 10. The triple is sick but that R1 motor is insane. The 10sp is a perfect overall recipe. Hope they bake it right!!!

I own a Ninja 250 and an FZ07. The 250 is generally my preferred bike for the highway. A Ninja 400 would probably be a decent choice to, and probably get you a bit of gas savings over a naked 700/900/1000.
