Same goes for every other hospital worker, too. Lab staff (phlebots and techs), radiology techs, respiratory therapists, paramedics/EMTs, maintenance crew, housekeeping, registration, among so many more positions. When someone thinks of hospital workers, they first think of doctors and nurses because they're in the front line, but there's so many more people who make the whole system run well that are overlooked. That's not to take away from either doctors or nurses, though. Mad respect to them for the stuff they have to deal with.

I was diagnosed at 18y. But no one did anything till I was 26. Had all the classic symptoms: very irregular periods with a lot of bleeding and horrible cramps, overweight, facial hair, cystic acne, ovarian cysts, insulin resistance/pre diabetic. Went to an endocrinologist at 26y and was put on: birth control, Spironolactone, thyroid medicine, and Metformin. Within three months, the cystic acne was gone, started losing weight and had more energy, and my sugars were amazing. Because I started feeling better about myself, I started taking better care of myself: started exercising more and got laser hair removal done.
I feel that Spironolactone and birth control should be a go to for women with PCOS esp if their symptoms warrant it: severe acne and irregular/abnormal periods in the presence of PCOS should be treated and not ignored. I have scars from the acne and there were times my hemoglobin was low because of the excessive bleeding on my periods. PCOS is real and it can be treated, but most women don't know that. Go to an endocrinologist, if you can. Having a period twice a month is not normal. There was a time I got off birth control and was doing well for two years and and then it went bad. Ended up having a period every 3 weeks for 3 weeks at a time. I didn't want to go back on oral bc because it was affecting my BP. So I tried the Nexplanon (little rod that has hormones that is inserted in your arm and lasts for 3 years), bc patch, IUD, even the IUD and the patch together. But nothing worked and I had to go back on the oral bc. If you're not seeing a doctor who is trying to treat your abnormal periods, you need to find a new doctor. A period every 15 days isn't good.

@@BaronessErsatz I worry so much about menopause because of my PCOS. I still have not been able to have a baby. Right now I am having to be on progesterone birth control to regulate my periods but it is helping less and less. Before the birth control, I wouldn't have periods for 6 months and when they finally came I would go through two packs of pads a day and end up in the ER on morphine drips from the pain. I am the type of person that can handle a lot of pain, had wisdom teeth cut out without taking pain medication, had two spinal surgeries without pain medication after surgery, and so on, but I cannot handle the pain from those periods. I had Depo shots when I was a teenager, they were forced on me by my aunt and social services even though I wasn't sexually active. I wonder if that has any correlation with the PCOS because I wasn't diagnosed until later in life after 5+ losses.

I've had a few hospital stays for some pretty serious cardio conditions, and no matter how uncomfortable the prescribed regimen of care is, it always makes it better for me when I not only thank the nurses but also remind the nurses of the importance of their work in saving and improving lives. I also recommend thanking the janitorial staff who clean your hospital room daily, and reminding them that they're an essential contributor to everyone who is treated in the hospital, as you have a much better chance of getting better in a clean room, both physically by removing unsanitary waste from the room, and psychologically by creating an environment that fosters a positive mindset conducive to healing.

Thank you for saying PCOS is underrated. I was so devastated when I was first diagnosed with PCOS. Unfortunately, I wasn’t diagnosed until after my teen years. I was on the Depo shot, don’t even get me started on that, and had a long road of that clearing out of my system. After I met my wonderful OBGYN, I was diagnosed and later put on birth control for about 14 months. After coming off the pill, I conceived my precious little boy. I was so scared that I would never have children, but I was proven so wrong.

To the stretching pulled muscles, THANK YOU!! This advice also goes for stuff like tendonitis and such. I had a cross country coach in high school that his solve for every problem was to stretch and ice. Not only did we all end up going to the doctor against the advice of the trainers, they got mad that we didn't trust them and injuries kept getting worse under their advice.

I think the big issue for most people is cold stretching. You want to get blood moving through your muscles before you stretch them. Training for greater flexibility is a different beast entirely. Maintaining your strength through a greater range of motion but it’s also a science unto itself. I was a gymnast when I was young & some of the stretching techniques we used were…questionable.

Yes PCOS is certainly underrated. I didn't get diagnosed with PCOS until late 20s - early 30s. I started my very first menstrual cycle late (around age of 16-17). I wish my parents showed more concern back then when I hadn't started yet, instead of just saying that it runs in the family for the oldest girl to be late with their period.

Your point about Nurses always hits home for me. I had an extended stay in hospital due to a serious throat infection when I was 17.
My doctor was great, but obviously very busy and always just showed up, did what he needed to do, and then vanished. The people who I actually felt cared for me and made my stay in hospital not only bearable, but actually pretty pleasant, all things considered, were the nursing team. They took care of a lot of the medical stuff, but they also took care of the little things you don't think about. Things like bringing me a snack outside of normal mealtimes, without me asking, because I'd not been very hungry when dinner was served up. Things like chatting with me about their day-to-day lives because I was obviously bored of being in bed all day, so it helped to hear about their day... Those little things meant a whole lot! Nurses are 100% certified heroes in my book.

PCOS presents in very different ways. The polycystic part of PCOS is generally because of lack of regular ovulation, causing follicle cysts (ovum/eggs) to build up in the ovaries month after month until ovulation. At the same time, the lining of the uterus also does not shed. People with PCOS commonly can go 45 days to a year without a menstrual cycle (some even longer), and they can experience increased hair growth on face, chest, etc, as well as have difficulty losing weight and are often overweight or obese. Sometimes other types of cysts can develop on the ovaries and rupture, which can cause pain, but this can happen even to people who don't have PCOS.

The struggle to lose weight despite being ultrahealthy and exercising. The struggle with both being superhairy on the body and at the same time going through hair loss (still not fully recovered. Having some spots on the sides of my head). Having hormonal headaches and then lastly: problem with infertility… going through ivf and have had five miscarriages… im going from being really angry to then switch to grieving and crying. Appreciate the shoutout for PCOS. It's far more than just a fertility issue - I never plan on becoming pregnant but PCOS still affects my life every day. Energy, mood, weight, hair loss/growth. It's emotionally and physically draining, and doctors' "solutions" are pathetic. There needs to be much more research and awareness about this condition - it's one of the most common problems affecting women but it's so painfully unrecognized, most people have never even heard of it before. I hadn't until I was suffering for years and did enough research to diagnose myself (I did get officially diagnosed btw, but no other doctor had caught it until I went in and said "I think I have PCOS, can you check"). It's horrible and I truly feel like it's at the root of my depression and anxiety and general suffering in life. I wish it would magically disappear.

Yeah honestly whenever I go to the doctor, it's the nurse that does everything, especially if I'm seeing a hospital doctor. The doctor will walk in for 2 seconds but other than that, it's mainly been the nurses helping.

I wholeheartedly agree about pcos. I have it, and there are so, so many struggles that come along with it. From weight to fertility/pregnancy issues, to acne, to painful, irregular cycles... the list goes on. A lot more people could stand to benefit from learning about it.

Trust your nurses... most of the time. As I lay here paralyzed from T11 due to a nurse having a bad day and throwing me back onto the bed, my back hit the bedrail... my life changed in 2 seconds of someone else's bad day. I used to be a nurse practioner, and I must say that I do miss USA medical facilities. To the nurses credit who paralyzed me, we were in the midst of the 2020 lockdown and construction was going on every day on the station above us... still, I am mad, but, I must say that time would drive Any nurse crazy! I have also caught multiple mistakes that could've been deadly, it's ok to ask about things and advocate for yourself. But in general, Dr Mike is correct, nurses are the front line and deserve respect. I could not help putting my situation on here. I am aware that it is not a usual situation.

You talking about the cold shower thing reminded me of my last visit to my previous GP. I went to her with a specific issue and wanted bloodwork done and she asked me if I'd prayed about it. I was so freaking mad. I kept trying to shut the conversation down and she kept pushing it. I never went back to her again.

100% on the fever thing. Me and my husband got sick recently and we both had fevers. He tried everything he could to break his, but I remembered either Dr.Mike or Dr.Jones saying to leave the fever alone and let it do it's thing. Yes, my husband's fever broke like a day before mine did, but guess who got overall better quicker! >.< I kinda showed off on him a bit, but yeah, leaving fevers alone (once not life threatening) is the way to go.

As someone who is fairly sensitive to heat (it and too much/too bright of light are my two biggest migraine triggers), I don't know about COLD showers, but a cool shower is incredibly refreshing for me. Not going to say it has monster health benefits, but between being able to cool down in the shower, and then experiencing further cooling effects from not fully drying off and letting the water evaporate from my skin...I think cool showers are about the best thing in the world in hot weather.

The streamer blue light thing you mentioned with valkyrae has been cleared up, I’m pretty sure there was some shady stuff going on, she was basically tricked into the contract with false claims of investigations etc. and she ended up cutting ties with the company once she found out there had been no studies done, just to clear up in case you didn’t know!

My mama is the best RN the world will ever know. She had always gone above and beyond for her patients, on the clock or not. Patients have changed healthcare providers that don't take their insurance just so they can keep her as their nurse. She has never gotten the respect she deserves from her employers, in recognition or pay. Saying nurses are underrated is such an understatement, but I'm still happy to hear it. Nurses are so important and care more than patients will ever know. Thank you, nurses!

Yeah I am a nurse and sometimes I hear something like "Oh, shouldn`t a doctor do that?" or "In TV that`s the doctors things, are you really qualified for that?" it`s kinda annoying tbh but my standard response is a little laugh and a "Oh you REALLY don`t want a doctor to this, I`d have to redo it an hour later, they are good in what they do and I`ll stick to [insert task in question]". Instant trust for some reason.

"You will see your nurse 98% more during your hospital stay than you will see your doctors"
I have to say this is fairly accurate, if not still underestimated. When I woke up from a coma, during the next 7ish weeks of recovery I think I saw one of the doctors once. The rest of it was nurses & techs. (And they were all awesome)
    *Edited to fix a typo*

THANK YOU for voting bariatric surgery as being underrated!! I'm 5'4" and had gastric bypass May 2021, reached 360lbs. I'm 160lbs currently and loving it. It was a VERY hard decision to make and I did develop complications, but I would 100% do it again.

Get checked for lipidema. I'm not even joking. When I reached my low weight of 143 my body just wouldn't lose anymore, was showing signs of starvation. TL;DR: I had undiagnosed lipidema and the weight was an improper glycolic interaction with fat that can only be broken down with MLD and certain vibration frequencies.
It was assumed I had cellulite--they were pockets of glycogen-infused fat from every carb I was putting in my body being supported by incompetent *deep* veins--the deep version of varicose veins.
If you get it treated *now* while you're at or reaching your lows, you'll have fewer problems with pain, constipation, and blood clots and then you won't have to go through my 8-year journey hahahahahaha
There is a body type commonly associated with obesity that is indicative of lipidema. And you want to get it treated before it turns into secondary lymphedema and you feel like you have plantar fasciatis before you didn't wear your tights, brush your legs, and use an air compressor to pump you from the waist down. Go get checked for insufficient venus reflux if you're having weakness or tiredness in your legs, or signs of varicose veins and they can get you going--do not assume this is just your skin getting thinner or your veins coming more out because of the weight loss.
You don't know yourself until you lose 2" a thigh after a drainage session--and it would have been easier when I was healthier within that initial surgery window than it is now. It's crazy

8:15 Based. I don't want a 60'' TV in my car, it's so weird that most cars nowdays have basically an iPad in the interior. Also, i think that infotainment systems like this should not be allowed in cars, because it's almost as distracting as a phone, and requires the driver to take the eyes off the road (with physycal buttons you can just remember where everything is). But is 100% allowed
