    I'm really bummed that Nike discontinued these shoes :( I own three pairs in different colors, but two of them have taken a beating from daily wear, both for running and everyday walking. These shoes are my go-to for their comfort, support, and they look fantastic, too. They're especially great for my hypermobile feet and lower back. One pair I reserve for indoor use, the other for outdoor activities, and I'm keeping the third for future wear. They're just so effortlessly comfortable! It's such a shame they won't keep making them. If Nike knew how much people with my condition and an active lifestyle rely on these shoes and marketed them accordingly, they would be doing us a huge sale. Oh, and I swapped out the original insoles for my ortholite insoles; they're another must for my hypermobile feet :D

      I am just back from another trip that I took them on. My default flying shoes. So easy to slip on and off at security and on the aeroplane and great for walking and running around in. Going to take more care of them from now on...

      @@OldManRunner indeed it is quite easy while traveling. I don’t understand why Nike stop the slip on/ flyease mechanism. It is simply amazing.

      My guess is that they made the shoe to demonstrate how you could solve the problem of laceless shoes. It probably cost a lot to make. They have another flyers that also solves the problem that is still on sale. I nearly bought it a few times…

    My Tempo next % overtook my Endorphin Speeds as my go-to shoe and after c500 miles I think I'm going to retire them due to some suspect foot pain 🤔 have got a new pair.. used them for recovery, easy and long runs.. feel too heavy and clumpy for speedwork.. but I'm starting to reach more and more for my Adidas Prime X for everything! 😯 My intervals suggest they as fast as anything I've got! but the lockdown is a bit pants 😔

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  2 роки тому

      It’s funny… on my radar are Saucony and Adidas… I haven’t run in either. I try and work my way through a manufacturer so that I have a good idea of what they are at… I keep meaning to try the Adidas Prime X but the stack height worries me… though usually if someone mentions a shoe in the comments I try to give it a go… so I probably will. I have the Bondi X here to review… which I think will be really interesting… I won’t have the video up for 2 weeks… doing the running filming piece this weekend… we are out of lockdown but it could be that we end up again…although the running is great for my physical health it’s the mental stuff it’s fantastic for… but yes lockdown is pants…

    I can imagine you judging products, since this is the key to your videos, Barry.
    FlyEase as a concept may be of interesting to a broad(er) set of YT watchers than runners. I hope you get some useful feedback; and yes the neoprene and locking extras add a LOT of weight v. the flyknit style sock version.
    I'm tempted to unbox my "next" Tempo Next% here in Sydney, now that our lockdown /5K restriction is finished!

    Before I get your review, I see in your lovely Millenium bridge running videos, that you're slightly heel striking.
    In my experience, this is one area where I think the key benefit of the shoe is to land on, and get the full effect from, the airpods. Shoes look great.

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  2 роки тому +1

      Its funny Ben, I have tried to accurately figure out exactly how I strike and at what speeds in what shoes...it's technically hard to do when filming on my own. When I made this video the conditions were very slippery underfoot, so my steps were somewhat controlled...when I have put the camera down to take detailed footstrike videos I tend to run along and adjust my stride to suit where the camera is...ideally I would leave the camera static and make numerous runs by at different paces and then pick the ones where I happen to land in front of the lens...But then I get afraid someone will run off with the camera! Might do some tests on the treadmill...
      I am going to make a video comparing all three Nike Zoom X shoes to find out exactly what the foam does, then what the pods add and then what the carbon plate adds...but it's several weeks away...I am testing a pair of Bondi X...don't think I can get to the beach to film them, but glad you can now get there...

    • @bensynewsshoedown4999
      @bensynewsshoedown4999 2 роки тому

      Yes there's a 'need' for Hoka's BondiX to be reviewed at Bondi (Sydney City to Surf course), Barry. 🙃@@OldManRunner

    Isn't the heal of the tempo react foam while the rest is zoom x?

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  2 роки тому

      Josh. Yes. The Zoom X sweeps upwards from the midsole with React Foam to the rear. The React gives what Nike call cushioned support. I will make another video comparing this and the Alphafly and Invincible Flyknit in terms of performance and try to figure out what the different foams and uppers and pods and carbon plate do...

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  11 місяців тому

      Samy. I am sorry my reply was so short this morning. I wrote a long one but thought it might be not answering the question simply. I checked and Nike do not make a waterproof flyease. They do make other GoreTex shoes but not a FlyEase version. You could try and add a DWR spray to the shoe. This is water repellant and is usually transparent. Many high performance jackets have a DWR spray. You should test it on another material first in case it affects the colour. There is an article about DWR here:
      www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/rainwear-dwr.html
      Another thing you could try is to use a waterproof sock. In this case the shoe would be wet but your foot would be dry. I have a pair of waterproof socks and they work well for walking, less well good for running where I think I feel as if my foot is in a plastic bag. Hope this helps.
