This is how you should review a shoe. Non bias and very honest with positive and negative points. Two thumbs up!
You review is great. None of the typical UA-cam shoe review jargon, just straight and to the point, and done after substantial miles and experience. Made me reconsider this shoe. Thanks!
Great to see a review of a shoe at 600km compared to 100km of use. Glad you brought up the weight, I wear the same size as you and notice such a difference when running faster in lighter shoes (end speed, Hyperion tempo, VF next %) compared with anything over 300g
Enjoyable upload as ever Ben. Definitely looking forward to the Hoka review!
Good review, I agree , I was a big fan of the peg turbo 2 , while the tempo next felt odd at first I love it now. I’m just over 60 miles in the shoe and generally keep it for tempo, LT and interval work. Good to see how well it’s held up to the miles. The more pace you put into it the better it find. I’m going to invest in another pair for the next marathon training block for sure as I reckon it will be perfect for long runs with some marathon paced miles 👍
Love this shoe, I have 250 miles in them so far. I would have never guessed the weight, they are so bouncy that I didn’t even notice. They are also great for running in the rain, grippy and the water doesn’t get trapped inside of them. It’s really impossible to have a bad run in them. I agree, they’re the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn.
I disagree with the running in the rain. They become increasingly slippery the moment they touch a wet pavement, to the fact that I definitely need to watch the weather report for race day. But in dry conditions this shoe is kinda my favourite to this day. My first “super shoe” and seems like still better for me than all the AF & VF version 1 and twos. Haven’t tried af3 and vf 3 yet. Although I’m pretty positive about the vf3 fitting just as well in the arch now as these Tempos.
This was a great review! Helped a lot. Thank you Ben!
I’m a year late but just started to run for fat loss and came across this video. Great content! Thank you 🙏🏾
I've ran 200 ks in my pair and I totally agree with your review. It's nice to hear that the pods seems to last 600 ks as well. But I consider the Pegasus Turbo a complete different shoe, not only the weigth but the feel as well.
Agree with this review a lot, I am a forefoot striker myself and find that this shoe increases my easy pace by about 15s/km without any real extra effort. Very good for speedwork and longer intervals. Unfortunately, one of my airpods seems to have burst (430km in). So, on that front, I would say just be careful with where you wear them - smooth surfaces only.
I'm so glad you posted this! I was wondering when you was going to review the shoe!
I've seen a lot of bad reviews about the shoe from more casual runners but took the punt on getting some in the 'Nike by You' custom colourways.
I saw those custom options on the website today.. certainly striking!! Enjoy your new shoes Lee!
My Rocket 🚀 X just arrived. I’m looking to use them as my replacement for the New Balance TC that’s gone a little flat. I have the Alphafly but prefer Vapourfly Next% for actual races. Opted for the Endorphin Speed instead of the Tempo Next% and that’s been a really great shoe. Not sure about the Tempo I think it’s a bit of a marmite shoe, and It’s put me off when other options exist. But, a very fair and balanced review and enjoying listening and learning from the channel.
Perfect timing! I fancy trying a set of these :D
Haha! When you mentioned the slapping and noise I wet myself! It's so true and I thought the same thing. The pros totally outweigh that for me though. Loving my pair although only worn twice 👍🏼
Thanks very thorough and fair! Wow that’s a quick turnaround for a full lifecycle review! I found the weight noise and slip too much to handle so returned them after a few runs. Also they are roomy in the toe box - i went +0.5 size after losing some nails to VF and that was a mistake. Im probably a mild heel striker so the pods slap/squelch was quite distracting
Great to see the Bushy Park footage! I’m just through the park on the Hampton court side! I love the road through bushy now that they’ve blocked the cars 😂
I was just going to ask if that was Bushy. I'm over in Twickenham
This is a good video review thx Ben.
Thanks for an excellent review, I'm up to 350 miles in them now and they are great, got another pair last year but my first pair just keep on going :)
Great video as always mate, would you be able to do a review on the adizero pro please? Really interested to see how you compare them to the next percent. I'm a nike boy but have recently tried the boston 8s as the were really cheap and have fallen in love with them for speed work.
Yep love mine! The noise though! Ha
Also good to have shoe reviews when at near end of life. Better view of performance over lifecycle.
Hi Ben, love the content as always mate. I wondered if you planned on recording any more full day of eating vids? I found your old ones entertaining and useful 👌 Cheers Ben
We will do. I’ve got a lot of extra help in the business day to day now, so we will be able to record more content coming up. Such as this!
@@BenParkes Thats great to hear, looking forward to that then! Hope the business is going well Ben 💪
I tried these shoes and just couldn’t get into them, after loving the original turbos. I think they are not great for heel strikers and/or slower runners. That slapping sound is even more audible when you heel strike and you can also feel it in the shoe, like falling off a cliff at the mid foot, not a smooth transition at all. I think these are definitely best for mid foot/forefoot strikers and people who mostly run sub-8 min mile pace
I just passed 400 miles in my tempo next% pair as well. I have nowhere near the wear that you have on your pair. I agree mostly with your review, however, I found the fit too tight across the top of my feet. I ended up just removing the laces completely, and they stay plenty snug without them. I felt like keeping the laces on would lead to extensor tendonitis.
Great review as always BP. So pleased you finished this one in the end.
I have a pair of these and honestly love them. They really do help with the form. Can’t wait to give the melon ones a run out after father Xmas has been. 😜.
Haha!! Enjoy those Father Christmas shoes Dean!!
I'm 260 miles in on mine, mild heal striker, and slow runner, and I love these all the same. It's definitely personal preference, but I've always found the "only for fast runners" or "only for midfoot/forefoot runners" comments fairly off-putting, so thought I'd chime in as neither of those and say that I love these shoes all the same. Comfy, bouncy, and they make running easier even at slow pace and mild heal strike. I think they've gotten better with age, for me.
I own the FlyEase version of the Nike tempo Next% and absolutely love them.
I feel the same about the improvement of form in the Peg 37s
I just logged 600k in mine too. Looking at the sole and comparing to your wear, I seem to be a heel stricker and I also have a bit of wear on the outter side of the tip so thanks for your video, I will try to fix this.
Other than that the shoes are ultra fast. I didn't notice any difference for the first 60k then gradually my time improved dramatically and I was able to train while recovering from various knee and achiles tendon annoyances. They were so comfortable that I even switched all my runs to the Tempo and eventually shaved off 8 minutes on my marathon time at 4:30mins/km.
Now if only I could find a second pair at the same discounted price. I got my first pair at 130 euros on the Nike app/website.
How am I just finding your channel?? Wtf UA-cam haha. Don’t love the shoes, but do dig the channel! 🤙🏼
Fair play mate I’m impressed you got it to 400 miles 👏 I really struggled with my pair and had to send them back but it’s great to see you’ve got so much use out of yours 👌 love my rocket x, hope you do too!
Hey! I purposely didn’t watch your review yet.. I knew you didn’t like them much, but didn’t want it to impact my review.. sooooo, I’ll go watch it now!! Looking forward to getting the rocket X out tomorrow!
@@BenParkes I really hope you love the rocket x, it just glides over the ground, so smooth! In the tempo next% you get more of a “pop off” the ground, this will just be effortless... 🤞🤞
Ben. Can you do a review for the ON cloud flow please. I have these shoes and would love to see your review 👍🏃♂️👍
Yes! Good video, I want those 😍 Currently loving the zoomfly 3 and the Turbo 1 for speedwork etc.
Lucky you still have turbo 1’s!! They were amazing shoes, really hard to find now. Enjoy!
@@BenParkes found them at the nike outlet in Italy went back before the lockdown and scored another pair 🤣
@@BenParkes you can find some turbo 1s on goat app
IMO that firm heel is excellent for heel striking. It locks down my heel and forces me use the front of my feet strongly. The more tired my legs get, the more I love wearing these. Other shoes have too soft heels, they reward heelstrike. These kinda fake u towards forefoot strike. I got from 3.26 to 3.06 doing all road training and racing with these. And heel striking make these last longer, I can do 1000+ km in a pair, before the splitting around pads gets complete.
Ben, you and I both LOVE the Tempo Next%, given our KMs on them. Your review is spot-on.
Did you ever get rubbing on your achilles from the pointy inside of the heel? I was glad to see your wear pattern, and your Mango Tempo Next%!
It did a tiny bit in the Alphafly, but not in these.. have always been comfortable from day 1!
400 mile review grabs my attention, good review and would like to see more on the channel. The launch price really put me off considering the tempo next %. I went for the Endorphin Speed instead.
I haven’t ran in the speeds, but from what other say it would be a better all round shoe than these.. this is quite a niche shoe. Hope you enjoy your new Saucony’s Tim!
I like a 400mile review because I like to see how durable shoes are so this really helps!
I started running again in 2020 and it hasn’t quite been a year yet but I’m comfortable running 10k most days now... I’m not really trying to go for marathons but I am pushing myself with distance rather then speed as it’s VERY hilly where I live! My question is, after using the normal Pegasus would you recommend going for these or the Pegasus Turbo 2?... Or something else like Zoom 3, Vaporfly or Alphafly? I’m a NIKE lover and looking for a daily runner. Advice?
Hey Ben! Please do a review of the Nike Zoom Fly 3 shoes 🙏 I'm just looking for some options thought it might be a better everyday casual use shoe.
Late to the party just brought some of these from the nike web site. Currently half price at about £80.00 looking forward to running in them.
I have both turbo 2 and these, have to say running in the tempo is way more fun and fast!
I tried this shoe but sent it back. I found it too heavy and firm for interval work. I much prefer my New Balance FuelCell Rebels for speed stuff or Vaporfly Next% or FuelCell RC Elite for long tempo runs. For everything else my Epic React is still a great all rounder that’s 40g lighter than the Tempo
Great review, has made me go and buy a pair. Also loving my BP hat, will be getting another one or two. Any plans for a black Friday deal?
Will do some deals over the weekend.. not sure what yet, but we always do. Thanks for the support!
Just ordered a pair off your review - got a pair from Nike for 127(25 discount at mo ) . Foot strike same as you - lateral border - looking forward to giving them ago
Great review! Thanks!
Hey .. thanks for the reviews it’s really helpful
I used the Nike Air Zoom Tempo NEXT%
After only 150 km I experienced one of the air pods damage!!
Did you experience this ? What do you recommend?
Thanks
Good review, not the shoe for me though. Have you ever tried Inov-8? If so what was your opinion?
Ben what’s your thoughts on the next % for any one with wide foot? I’d like something carbon for a virtual race in a few weeks!
The thing came apart between the zoomx foam and the air zoom foam as well as between the fabric and the sole. I wish they stitched the soles into place so they don’t come apart but I guess it’s part of the game with Nike nowadays. Produce shoes with little durability and thin outsoles knowing that they’ll probably only last a year or two and release a new model every year like Iphones.
Totally agree with this being a good 3rd or maybe 4th shoe in an overall rotation. Been having a good time in them, while Im in between training blocks. This shoe made my top 5 running shoes of the year. Enjoyed this. Good to hear that you had an overall good experience after 400 miles.
For me, after 500 miles with the Turbo 2's, they're going to be hard to beat. The extra weight on the next% and clunky dimensions are probably too much for me. Might have to look at alternatives or most likely, another set of T2's haha!
This shoe is going to be a classic in my book. I set a personal best in these in all distances up to half marathon. I was tempted to try a full marathon in them but the ride is a little too rough for me. I have purchased 4 pairs of them and they average about 180 miles and only use them for racing and occasional tempo days.
Great review Ben! I agree, can be a loud and heavy shoe but I think the pros out way the cons for me. 👍👍👍
One of the best shoes 2020!!
Ben, I see the heel drop of the Vaporfly is 8mm and this shoe (which I train in) is 10mm. Having had issues with my achilles' after going down fro 10mm to 8mm in previous shoes, I'm now thinking what the hell am I supposed to race in?!
Just bought myself a pair. I've had Pegasus Turbo 2 and recently ran with the Pegasus 37. Both good shoes and hoping for a better shoe in the Tempo next%
Is it better?
Thanks for the review. I just got mine and they make these funny squishy noises when I land my feet
Went on a 10 mile progression with my teammate who had a pair of there, the squeaking absolutely drove me crazy, personally I’d recommend the new balance RC elite 2, beat shoe for workouts/ races on track/road in my opinion
Ps when the rubber wears out on the air pots, you can just re-sole it with some new grippy rubber.
Would you recommend this shoe for fast long runs? Like 18-22 miles with 8-12 miles at 5:30 per mile and the rest of the miles easy like 7:00 per mile?
Ben I've ben wanting this shoe just got it all the way from San Diego CA. Bloody good shoe
Nice review - I recognise Bushy Park there! 😉
When I bought the Peg Turbo 2, I also thought that it might be too big. However, I am glad that I didn't return it because when it's hot snd humid and shoes get totally wet the upper kind of touches toes and going half size down could make the shoe too small. The Peg Turbo 2 is still my favorite shoe. I have been a little bit hesitant towards this Tempo Next% because it's heavy and also because I am not sure whether I'll be able to maintain the perfect landing when I get tired.
What is so good with the Turbo? To you of course. I find them flat after few miles, but do nicely for speed work and intervals.
When I try the Boston - they are flat too but way more responsive.
Hmm, I think it would be cool to make a turbo like mix of foams, including zoom x and boost. 🤔😀
How did you manage to get this as the new pegasus? Thought it was the new zoom fly
Hello there, I got this shoe as well, but my tempo slip at the bottom sole is that normal.
How cushioned is it in the front foot area compared to the Pegasus 37 or Zoom Fly? Thanks.
Me recomiendas utilizar los tempo next para un maraton de 3: 50xkm ???
Saludos desde México
Tnx thats the video i needed
hi Ben I'm a keen runner not very fast around about 7.50 daily runs and race around 6.20 to 6.30 would these zoom fly tempo be any good for me or would you recommend anything else love you video
I just got a pair and did a 12 mile run in them.......very light In my opinion also feel like it has good acceleration. The noise that it makes though it’s very obvious it’s not a normal shoe and had a lot of people stare and immediately look down at my feet.
I do agree with the assessment I did feel like a focused a lot more on my form and felt where I want to strike with each stride.
I think it’s a fantastic shoe and definitely helps with your training or just a regular guy like me who wants to take running a little more seriously.
Edit ** I also want to say my original shoe was and still is was a zoom fly 3 but feel the tempo next% helps a lot with form and foot strike.
Great video Ben, I'm a heel striker so maybe these aren't for me. would love a video about correcting , that if it's possible, would also be interested to see you review a pair of shoes from Brooks.
Thanks Dave! Do you mean a video about moving from a heal striker to a mid foot striker?
@@BenParkes sorry Ben, yes that's exactly what I meant to say 🤣
@@davecowdry6274 I’ve got a running form video coming out soon.. stay tuned!! 😀
Enjoyed the review.
Where are you on the alphafly v vaporfly next% decision for a full marathon race (when we get them again)?
I haven’t ran much in the Alphafly yet.. but will do a review as soon as I’ve clocked some more K’s in them. If I had a race tomorrow I’d be grabbing the Alphafly though I think!
@@BenParkes I haven’t raced in the alphafly yet but while they feel great, when I took them off and switched to the next%, really noticed the weight difference (next% is 40g less). Watching London, could see even the elites were split between the two
Coming up on 600km on my £15 decathlon KALENJI :-) They have been great. Tread is still excellent. Mentioning weight. Anyone run with a kilo or two in a weight vest when training. If I have been hitting the bread a bit too much and put some weight on I can tell straight away without even looking at the scales when running. Might be worth doing my normal training with a kilo or two extra weight nothing too heavy to damage my running form to get the benefit.
NIKE TEMPO NEXT% or turbo 2 if you can choose one? true to size with tempo next and half size with turbo 2
I find that one of mine creaks when I’m running. Actually quite annoying as I don’t run with headphones. Having said that I’ve set some good times in them.
Hi, sorry to ask. I am always using stability shoes for couple of years particularly asics kayano. Im also training for my first half marathon. What's your thoughts about this. Will it screw up my running form and knees if i wear this shoes during my training tempo run day? Then ill switch back to kayano's on longer run day?
As another comparison wouldn't they be a closer match (instead of the Turbo's) to the Zoom Fly 3?
Zoom fly 3 is responsive but a different ride then Pegasus. I would say tempos are more tech feeling
I actually like the noise because I tend to run in congested areas and it lets ppl know I'm coming. I don't need to speak out to excuse myself as I'm running by.
I love sounding like a horse hoofs hitting the ground. My exact thoughts too. Mixed in with the heavy panting in races, makes me feel like a badass horse. Neiiighhh!
A question to you Ben, which shoes would you prefer to buy next time: Tempo or Turbo?
Tempo!
I hope you'll notice this comment but is it okay if you'll use this shoe for raceday? I compete races only 10km. Been using nike pegasus turbo and judt bough nike tempo for my racing is this a good decision?
Ben, it's great to get your feedback that even after 400mi, the Tempo Next% pretty much feels as good as your next Tempo Mango%.
Looking forward to your review of the Hoka RocketX. @eddbud and Andy FOD have reviewed them. However neither would have compared it to your Tempo Next%!
I had both slippage, slipping & groaning noise when in medium rain, running on polished concrete (Kirribilli Runners 6K around Sydney Opera House, on Strava).😃
I've had 4 pairs of turbos/turbo 2s so thought I'd give these a try. I found them just as fast as the turbos but I find they give me a niggling Achilles/ankle injury. Not sure if this is down to the 10mm heel drop, the react foam in the heel or because I might be more of a heel striker. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has had similar issues.
Same problem here
Yes, same here. On the contrary no issues whatsoever with apparently same fitting Alpha next.
Just purchased some in orange👌 picked up for £127 from Nike with a discount code😁 Can’t wait to get and test them👍
I wanted to get a running shoe that would have decent endurance that I can use for training during soccer season and these seem perfect.
I love the Tempo Next %s, I reach for it 4 out of 5 times. I think £169 is a lot, but i got it free so pleased with that. I'd defo buy them though. All that said, I should use the Peg 37s more. What's your everyday shoe @Ben?
I do use these quite a lot.. even on easier runs. Combined with novablast and the NB more right now. How did you get them free?!? Jealous!
Ben, I noticed from your strava you've been running in these for the past couple of weeks as your go-to shoe. What would be your recommendation for an all-round training shoe if these aren't that?
Something like the New Balance 1080 V10, Asics Novablast or Nike Pegasus 37!
Why not the Epic React v2? You can get these for as little as £65 delivered on Stock X
Compared to the Pegasus I’ve found these remarkably more comfortable the mid foot airbags comfortable on road surfaces
I'm worried the sole will come off. Cause I use my runners for jumping etc
So you recommended for heel striker Turbo 2 is better right?
I got these for over 50% off but only have trails around me as I live in a rural area. Could these still work as daily trainers or do I need to get another pair specific for trails?
Looking at using these for my long progression runs? Whacha think??
Bought this exact shoe to train for running a marathon.. an amateur obviously, but 2nd day using it, I experienced shin splint like I never had with my other shoes.. Not sure why. I used to have a less elevated shoe and a little bit flatter. May be comfortable as a walking shoe, but running causes pain from the knee below, even with just fast walking, i feel there is tension. And yes, the noise annoys me, the feel of not being smooth because it creates that flapping sound.
Can you do the same review with alphafly?
How do you lace up the shoes? Seems like the lacing gets to a hole where: what now:
I can't decide what to get can you help?. Cant afford alfaflys. But others definitely I want a 5k to half marathon shoe
how many miles can handle alphafly or zoomx vaporfly next percent ?
Hi Ben, could you recommend a cushioned marathon race shoe, I currently run a 3:45 marathon. My current running shoe line up that I have in my garage are Hoka Clifton 7, Hoka Rincon 2, Brooks Ghost 13, Saucony Kinvara 11 (that I use for tempo runs but looking for a different tempo shoe to replace these) and the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 37. But I am now looking for a more race specific, cushioned shoe. Great channel and enjoy both your and Sarah's channel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you have the budget then the Nike next% is the best in class in my opinion! Hoka have a new Carbon X shoe out early next year. Or you could have a look at the Saucony Ensorphin Speed.. not a all out race shoe, but quick over longer distances and not too expensive either!
@@BenParkes thanks for your help. That's good enough reason to get the next %. Keep the videos coming, they do prove useful and are appreciated. Gran Caneria looked awesome btw. Thanks.
Good review.
How about reviewing Craft CTM Ultra Carbon?
How do you clean them without damaging them?
Hi Ben is this shoe alot better than hoka carbon xs. And lighter
I took your advice on the Pegasus Turbo 2 and I have bought 3 pairs since the video last year! Considering I have never re-purchased the same model before that I was really really pleased! This one is gna be insteresting, can’t wait to hear what u have to say!
I’d do anything to have a few pairs of turbo 2’s right now. Nothing compares...
@@richc8837 Had to go to stock x, prices aren’t great, but the shoe is worth it👌🏻
@@dom_smth9 thank you. I’ll give them a shot. Arriving tomorrow!
