It was a huge mistake on the Hist's part to alter the argonians to more closely resemble people.
At least in Morrowind, during the third era, they had a certain aesthetic about them. Being unable to wear shoes or proper clothing helped set them apart more from their superiors.
Now they're just n'wahs with tails. Miserable.
It has always been the way of the Mer and especially the Chimer to view Mundus as flawed creation, born out of chaos. A large garden full of interesting specimens and phenomena, but ultimately flawed and thus to be improved upon. Meanwhile, the Aragonians embrace the natural world surrounding Black Marsh, not only due to their relationship with the Hist but also as a consequence of the Dunmer and their repeated raids.
Overall, a fascinating sermon Voryn, I'll have to review my notes regarding Aragonian society, the xanmeer especially are an intriguing, if simple, piece of architecture that are worth reviewing.
The Xanmeers are indeed a fascinating and primitive object to study, but they do show a sense of elegance to Elder Argonians once you manage to scrape away the muck that is Black Marsh, potent magic as well so best to exercise caution.

Dagoth Ur couldn't stop the Oblivion Crisis, let alone any Dunmer. The Argonians not just stopped the invasion but took it to the Daedra. The Hist is all we need to remain. The green pact looks like pissing on a flower compared to our connection with the Hist.

@@allewis4008 Ok, do you mind explaining this to a new guy: I'm assuming that this "Daedra" invasion had to be something other than the beings like Molag Baal and Azura, because if so, that would imply Tamriel was invaded by its own gods, and somehow fought them off...but a lot of them still worship said gods.

1: lack of ambition is not a flaw when compared to advancing nations that share the same Continent in the sense that an advancing civilization cannot sustain advancement and therefore is unsustainable allowing coups/revolutions/civil war/ economic collapse/ and anarchy. When you have such a way to allow everyone to know such, and know a cap must be set somewhere, being okay with living your life and contempt is no flaw at all when the road to the industrial revolution is the cause for the downfall of civilizations. 2: stone blocks are STILL used in todays time for construction (bricks, which are less favorable than actual stone for any sort of long standing structure) and they have taken to making buildings out of mud because of the cultural understanding that to make something last more than you is to steal from the nirn and greed leads to sorrow, only such a philosophical approach to things help deter double standards and lead to a perfect utopian society... and youre right, they stole technology from other lands... THE DEADLANDS, the altmer have claimed they too have ventured into and fended off the deadra during the oblivion crisis but who believes them? Their claums are also much less valorant than what the saxhleel have done. 3: their aesthetics are for practical purposes, the ability to converse with the ehlnofey descendants is a valuable one, as well as their thick strong tails increase balance control and are an extra limb for all sorts of applications, warfare being one of them. Having "refined" aesthetics is useless unless you have such a frail ego that you need to preen over yourself, and are VERY unique in the sense that every other "intelligent" race has come from the same beings as every other race... except the argonians. 4: not once has the intelligence of the saxhleel been ignored except for dunmer slavers to trick themselves to not feel guilty, and the ability pick up tamrielic as a slave in a very much not broken way with ZERO education on such is an accomplishment, even mer races have fallen into decay in similar situations (ie. Falmer). Only the ignorant would mistake emotionless demeanor and calmness with stupidity. Their native language is far easier to pick up and more simple, but just as effective in sharing information, which is a good argument to say that it is a superior language to tamrielic, if men and mer had the stronger and more agile wind pipes to make such sounds required. 5: mysticism abilities of the saxhleel have been proven time and time again, they have more affinity in spell casting that many man races and even some mer races as well. And the pursuit of refining magick of their own? Mostly pointless, they have proven time and time again their incantations to be quite effective towards heavily armored dark elves who unprovoked trespassed upon lands which are not theirs. The "devotion" you say the argonians have towards lesser deadra is not entirely the case, take for example sanguine his questionable ethics have caused the empire to label him as "evil" yet with the common phrase "its not that deep, bro" this seems quite a puny law, its all for good fun. 6: six doesnt have any actual substance in its argument... 7: the hist is not a tree or series of trees, and the previous judgment with the outlook of being inferior is the cause of that, because that fragile ego i talked about has something to do with placing everyone in tiers and placing oneself above another. Ignorance is bliss when you say nothing of meaning. And again: being modeled in anatomy to resemble man and mer in some way is beneficial for all parties to have the ability to achieve peace without bloodshed, only an inferior species would think war is the first and only way to have peace. Diplomacy is a thing i would have thought "refined" races respected... but when you push too far Diplomacy doesnt seem so enticing. (Lol for saying the intellect of a certain people is lesser than yours... you dont seem to be able to tell the difference between single digit characters 😂😂😂) 8: why is evolution deemed good? If you are not pressed to permanently adapt to your environment, then you are the best there is. Yet these "highly evolved" ehlnofey descendants have had much change throughout the eras due to innate inferiority, why must you change if you are so much better? Its because you are not the best at what you do, unlike saxhleel. And they are relieved to accept the winds of change. Because the only certainty is that nothing stays the same, they have the adaptation ability to flow and move around their surroundings and they have accepted that, as to why they dont ever change in your eyes because they are never not. 9: you showed a depiction of a banner outside a settlement on the front lines of war, no such sane person would place a van gogh or the mona lisa, and the lack of decorative artpieces is attributed to the fact of knowing that if you have more art, its worth lessens, the beauty of such pieces can be truly seen when you dont have 40 other pieces look similar. And in the terms of music, which is an art in itself, that is quite different, the ingenuity of their native instruments is fabulous and is really quite impressive at sunset on a cool evening after a day of venturing for a tyrannical mages skull in the swamps. 10: the pursuit to leave a mark on this ever changing world is inconsequential in itself, and again reinforces the fact that many man and mer races have feeble mental fortitude when it comes to social situations, with a fragile ego and discomfort with not being known, like dawg... move on its not that deep. I hope you trip over and fall upon the throned wicked sword of a saxhleel assassin.

not only do they stagnate, they actually devolved. at least in the merethic era, they built these cool pyramids made out of stone and geometrical patterns and that was about the closest they got to actually developing an advanced civilization. that xanmeer culture of argonians didn't stick around for long, probably was killed off by their more uncivilized brethren.

Here’s another reason, back with the Hero of Kvatch, they attended Boethiah’s Tournament of 10 Bloods. The Hero’s final opponent was an Argonian. Why Boethiah thought an Argonian would be a better final opponent than a Dunmer is beyond me. To further prove my point, before the Argonian could cross blades with the Hero, the Argonian fell into lava. This is why they’re better off as farm tools.
