- PAINTING VIDEO DESCRIPTION - This painting tutorial will take you through easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions on how to paint this fun and exciting waterscape animal portrait image of "TROPICAL TURTLE" with an energetic whimsical feel and realistic look to it. Turtles, who once roamed the Earth alongside dinosaurs 100 million years ago, are the symbol of longevity, perseverance, steadfastness, protection, retreat, healing, and tranquility, and with their adaptability, they can thrive in just about any environment, from the murky swamps of the bayou to the thick and dense Amazon jungles, to flowing rivers of the Mississippi bason to comforting beach shores of the Caribbean. And it’s here, set in the warm turquoise water of the tropics, where this oceanic aquatic adventurer has immersed himself. While following this simple art tutorial, you’ll learn to paint this captivating seascape with depth, contrast and vibrant colors, creating beautiful and vibrant image. The first lesson you’ll learn in this acrylic instruction is how to paint atmospheric dimension in the background using color theory to mix custom water and sand colors and a loose blending brushstroke to transition the colors into one another with the intent on creating an inviting underwater world. Then you will give your tenacious tortoise form and structure by drawing an easy outline of the shell, fins, flippers and head with chalk and applying a simple base coat as a foundation. In this canvas painting for beginners, you will then create realistic looking dimension with properly placed highlights and shadows, followed by layering colors to give your shell-encased curious critter a textured appearance. You will then learn how to add final fine finishing details to give your sunlit reptile a 3-D effect like a photograph. You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to make your huggable sea swimming dweller come alive with just a few natural colors, easy brush strokes, and drawn outlines. This is an image that you can easily personalize and customize in any way you want. If you love Disney and Finding Nemo, go right ahead and make your turtle look like Crush, and then paint a clown fish or a blue fish that looks like Dori. Go even further and make this an underwater oasis and add coral, seashell and seaweed, a shipwreck, treasure chest, or other sea creatures, like a shark, dolphin, jellyfish, crabs, lobsters, or anything your heart desires! Go wild and make him look like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle with amour and a bandana! Using only 3 brushes and 7 colors we'll create this conversational masterpiece that is sure to compliment any décor. Not just a beautiful painting, but and easy painting for beginners. So, let's get painting and let's get sipping!

Your instructions are really amazing, thank you.
Miichelle, thank you so much for the great instructional video, I learned so much and cant wait to paint my own turtle.
Glad it was helpful!
I followed your tutorial step by step Michelle & want to say a huge thank you for your free art therapy which helped in my time of need.. I completed this project in a day & must say I was impressed with my end result. Big thanks to you for your talent & patience in teaching us..
Thanks!
I want to paint every project. You are amazing!!!!!!
Have fun!
Thank you Michelle, for giving such good detailed step by step instructions. You are so talented. You make your videos easy to follow. I can’t wait to try this painting.
Thank you so much!
C Wife so cute. So much fun to watch this painting come alive. Thank You.
A friend and I painted this last night. Neither of us are very experienced and we were concerned with so much detail on face and shell it would be difficult. With cold weather coming we wanted to think of the warm Caribbean waters and this was perfect. Your instruction was so clear and detailed that we were able to achieve paintings that we were proud to have. We had some difficult with face details but that was due to working on only an 11x14 canvas so that was our fault but your instruction helped us achieve a great end result. Thank you so much. Since taking early retirement a few years ago I have been trying to find something to do with my time so I took up painting (I did attend Paintnites prior). I have watched many tutorials by many different artists and yours by far are the easiest to follow with great results. I will be a Patreon. Thank you!
That's wonderful! Happy to hear that! I hope you'll share your work when you become a patreon and join the Facebook Group!
Beautiful sea turtle . Amazing step to step from and to.

I love turtles..you did an amazing job painting this beautiful sea turtle. I look forward to painting this along with you. Thank you again ❤️
I've been following your art tutorials for a long time and even tried my hand at some of them. This tutorial certainly challenged my abilities to say the least. But to my surprise it came out better than I expected. I even added some sea kelp and sea grass in the background which really made the turtle pop right off the canvas. You are by far the best tutorial artist out there. Your step by step instructions make it so easy to create your visions. Thank you so much for sharing your talent. Wish I can share my version of Tropical Turtle with you.

This is probably a dumb question but what do you do to prime your canvass? I am brand spanking new to painting but I like your paintings so much I want to attempt a few of them. I bought some cheapy canvas, paint and brushes to practice with but I don't about the priming part.
Hi Shirly, I don't prime my canvases. I buy all mine already primed. It's easier for me considering how much I paint. A primed canvas means that the raw canvas has been treated to allow for paint to adhere to it. Most canvasses that you buy from the store these days, or online, are already primed when you buy them. If you are purchasing raw canvas, than you will want to put a layer of primer on the side that you want to paint. There is a product called Gesso, that is specifically designed to be a good adhesion primer for art canvasses. If the canvas you have is white on one side and tan on the other side, than it is already pre-primed, if it is tan on both sides than it is raw. I hope this info helps. Have fun painting!
@@michellethepainter. yes yes it does. I’m thrilled that you took the time to answer my question. I have all white canvases with tan backs that are on a frame. I have 5x7 flat ones that came with a ‘starter kit. I didn’t want to attempt one of your beautiful and imaginative paintings on an unprepared canvass. You remind me of Bob Ross. I love how, as you work, I intently watch you and when I see what looks like a mistake, you casually incorporate it or show how to remove it. That’s what I needed. I’ve always been terrified to start because I don’t know what to do if I make a mistake. Now I do. You’ve taught me that it’s not really a mistake. Thank you and thank you for your channel.
@@shirleyujest7786 Thank you for watching Shirley!
C est tellement simple quand ces vous qui le fait
Good morning Michelle, I am wondering if there is a round bristle brush available? I havent been able to find any. Thank you. Susan
Hi Susan, you can purchase the same brushes that I use on my shop here: berkshirepaintandsip.squarespace.com/shop
May l ask: what’s the name of the brand of paint you’re using? I, for the most part ,paint with Amsterdam and some Liquitex. Those are both a lot less liquid than your student grade paint😁
Blickrylics. But any student grade paint aught to do well for you. Have fun!
@@michellethepainter. Thank you Michelle, so much, for answering my question💚. I will first find out if they sell it here in Norway 🇳🇴. If not, try and order it online👍. Looks so much easier to cover, and do the background to paintings😁👍
@@beatebrade5669 Good luck!
What keeps your paint from drying out while you paint
Hi Cinn Amon, For these tutorials I'm using a thin bodied student grade paint from Blick Materials called Blickrylics. They don't have the best pigment, but I like the consistency for layering and blending affects. I sell small sample sizes of the colors I use on my website (link below) if you want to try them before you invest in the larger bottles. Have fun painting! ~Michelle

@@michellethepainter. thank you am thinking of ordering a kit with everything just haven't decided on what to pick out yet.
I would like to ask please are all your paint brushes synthetic and what is the texture of your 1/2 bristle brush...is it hog hair ? Thank u
Yes it is! Nice guess!
How do you get paint out of your clothes?
If acrylic paint, it's water-based so you can wash it off pretty easily if done quickly. If you wait too long you'll look like me. lol
do you think we could paint this giraffe.....
Yes you can!
