The third anniversary of the Story of the Gamecube is coming up and I wanted to share some thoughts with you guys about the video. I'm still amazed that I made this series and really started taking youtube seriously. I started making videos on here all the way back in 2010 with scripted comedy bits. I tried a bunch of different things over the years, but I spent the bulk of the mid-2010's not making videos on a consistent basis. I was in my early 20's and free time wasn't all that common. Eventually the bug was scratching way too hard and I decided to give video making another run. I started working on a series of videos about the gamecube in early 2018. I spent months researching everything I could about the gamecube in an attempt to make the ultimate series on the video. The final product became more of a documentary than I originally intended, but I liked it and kept going. By the time I finished this series, I knew I wanted to keep making videos about video game history. As my first video in the series, The Story of the Gamecube is rough around the edges. The quality isn't nearly as high as it is today and my voice is awful. I have no idea who I was trying to impersonate. But the core foundation is still there. I remember having a ton of fun making this series and it'll always hold a special place in my heart. It's what finally got me into youtube as a platform and I'm grateful for that. And I'm grateful for everyone who has watched this series! If I went back three years ago and told myself that this video would have over 100,000 views, I would have lost my mind. That's the reality today and I'm still as shocked as ever. Thank you so much for watching and enjoy the videos! (Should I remake this at some point? I feel like I almost have to, right?)

I had gone to the store, money in hand, intending to get a PS2 and Final Fantasy X after seeing the game at a friend's house and being very impressed by it. When I got there, I saw that the GameCube was fifty dollars less so, on the spot, I decided to get one so I could get a second game with it. The two games I got were Sonic Adventure 2 and Super Smash Bros Melee and after getting home and playing them I knew I had made the right choice. I never regretted it and to this day the GameCube is still my favorite game system ever.

Excellent job sir! This documentary touched my soul and I appreciate your works on this. I bought my first Gamecube in 9th grade and stood in line at a Walmart. I purchased the purple console on that November 2001 and my mother got me the Luigi's Mansion title for Christmas. I had to wait almost an entire month before I could get the game to play it. Brings back so many memories and I still am playing these games today. In 2020 alone I beat LOZ WindWaker, Mario Sunshine, and Star Fox Assault/Adventures. My wife and I are currently playing Mario Party 4 - 7 even to this day. Excellent console.

I knew a kid in 6th grade named Justin who’s grandma gave him like 20 dollar a week allowance and would just buy stuff from other kids cause he was pretty much the only kid with money. I wanted a Gamecube for Christmas but as the youngest of 4 I knew my parents would never spend that much on just me, so I started selling my old N64 games I never played anymore to him for 20 bucks a piece. After getting rid of Mischief Makers, A wrestling game, a shitty racing game I can’t remember, and the south part game I was able to give my parents 80 bucks toward my present. They went the extra mile and got me Smash Melee cause they knew how much I loved playing it at my friends.

I got the gamecube back in christmas 2006 when i was a kid. i remember EVERYONE (including my older brother) telling me that it was a crazy idea to get it because the wii was coming out, but it was the BEST decision i ever made because I finally have a way to record gaming footage of all my old gameboy games due to the gameboy player. i still have it to this day! thank god i didnt listen to my stupid older brother :P
I'm a huge Resident evil fan. I remember the day GTA Vice city was coming out going to the mall with my big brother. There was a long waiting line ready for Vice citys release. They let me Come in the store and I told them I was selling my ps2 for a GameCube and a copy of Resident evil remake. People were looking at me like I was crazy lol. Good ole days. That's when Game Stop gave you good deals.
@@fourlokouva Really?! I played the very first one on NES back when I was a kid in 88 or 89. Other than it being unique, I never played it much and didn't play a Zelda game again until Link to the Past on SNES and LOVED it! I've been hooked on Zelda ever since and Twilight Princess is perhaps my favorite out of them all. Then again, I'm an old fart so maybe that skews things a bit. I also find Majora's Mask annoying and Windwaker overrated.
This is a great little documentary.! I'm 45 years old and I just bought another GameCube for the first time in 20 years,, you know. I have a lot of fond memories for things from the past, so buying one nowadays ,it's just as I sit down and play ,i come back to the 20 year-old me.. what was going on at the time,, and I remember this, and I remember that in this game... I don't know ?..I guess this is the definition of nostalgic.. I'm having a lot of fun with a GameCube in 2019
i remember i bought mine with metroid prime on new years eve. didnt play it til morning with the worst hangover i've ever had in my life. felt like i was literally dying but i was so amazed by that game at the time i couldn't stop playing.
I still play fire emblem path of radiance and code Veronica one of the best re story wise ever. And a very long game when both campaigns are factored in.
I love the Gamecube! It's my favorite console of all time. Such a unique console with innovative ideas, and really fun peripherals. Metroid Prime, RE4, and that oh-so-scary Resident Evil Remake! So many other good titles. I'll probably never shoot for a full collection, but I've got about 150 games, WAY more than any other console in my collection. Thanks for this well-written piece. One suggestion: you may want to get a different microphone or work on leveling, since there was some fuzzy distortion of your voice. Keep 'em coming!
resident evil 0 is amazing too once you get past the difficulty and tedious inventory management. i actually ended up liking it a little more than remake after i beat it a couple times.
I was at E3 2001 when they showcased the Gamecube, and it was such a blast to play it. Rogue Squadron was my favorite to play on the expo floor. What a party!
@@BigHungryJo 1080 snowboarding on the n64 was my favorite snowboarding game. i'm not really into snowboarding games but i was hooked on that one for a long time.
I disagree capcom helped the gamecube alot what other console of the early 2000's had the entire resident evil franchise besides the gamecube none the gamecube had resident evil 0.1.2.3.4.Cv that's the reason I chose the gamecube was because of the resident evil franchise.
today I'm just playing them on the PlayStation I still have my GameCube on my shelf the only Nintendo console I have ever owned or will ever own because I play mostly PlayStation
No console ever got as much playtime as the GameCube in our household. Just playing back-to-back 90-minute Melee matches for weeks at a time, City Trial in Kirby air ride, whatever that Wario game was called, and 30 other masterpieces
I was so excited when the Capcom exclusives were announced. I really loved viewtiful joe, re4, and killer7. Suda 51 and grasshopper studios are among my favorite developers, if not number 1. I may have never known about his games if it wasn’t for my GameCube.
The GameCube is still one of my favorite systems ever. I loved the cube shape with a handle, (easier to take to friend’s houses) and I loved the controller. To me, it was fun and comfortable. I’ll never forget playing Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness with my childhood best friend, or making my brother and cousin mad at me because on Melee all I knew how to do was spam Pikachu’s thunderbolt. 😂 Plus, The Legend of Zelda collectors edition was awesome. Unfortunately I was still a little too young at the time to beat Majora’s Mask, because Pamela’s dad scared the crap out of me.
A lot of those who say they love the GameCube these days are mostly posers. Those who say they love the Dreamcast and say its the "greatest system" ever these days are kids who got stuck in the past.
The issue with the mini DVD is hugely overstated. Few games used multiple discs on the GameCube and the GameCube version of a game was almost always better than the PS2 version. GC also had a great deal of third party support, especially in comparison to the N64, Wii, and Wii U.
It's really amazing how the perception of this system changed. In 2003, on Nintendo forums, actual Nintendo fans were saying "this system has horrible third party support, how can Nintendo learn from this and make sure they NEVER make a mistake like the Gamecube again." By 2013, people on Nintendo forums were saying "Nintendo needs to get back into gear and make a GOOD system like the Gamecube that third parties are actually willing to develop for."
I know this is old but I really enjoyed it. I've been homebrewing my Wii and playing all the Wii and GC games. Between that and this video I'm on a nostalgia bender. Thank you and subbed.
@@majingamer6109 ..... SEGA DreamCast had 624 games.... The last official release was a MileStone Inc. shoot-em-up called Karous, and that was released on the 8th of March… 2007. Yes, no typo - it was indeed released six years after the Dreamcast disappeared from shelves
surprising to hear all this, i loved the gamecube so much. i still have my black one and my wavebird controller. sunshine, zelda collectors , luigis mansion, smash melee, the star wars games, windwaker. all amazingly fun. was my first consol
so many great memories with the gamecube. i remember always going across the street to play it at a family friends house. then one day he just gave it to us and me and my siblings had so much fun playing games like melee and sonic adventure 2. definitely a great console
Been watching this numerous times. The thing I found very interesting was the line of that Nintendo executive saying "Consumers don't want fun anymore." On the bright side though, Nintendo's business mistakes with the Gamecube eventually paved the way for the successes of the DS, 3DS, Wii and most of all, the Switch.
I still remember back in 2002 going to an internet cafe to watch resident evil remake trailer on a dial up internet speed. Many years later I traded an xbox for a gamecube and played most of it's games
I got a GameCube in 2005 and was very happy with it, it had the best first party games, the minidisc was annoying and some games were split into 2 disc's but the gameplay more than made up for it.
This is Really awesome! Honestly, the Gamecube library is one of the greatest gaming library out there, Hopefully you can do something similar like this with the Wii.
About the stereoscopic 3D: Panasonic (who also developed the dvd drive for the GameCube) made a stereoscopic 3D screen for the GameCube. Nintendo actually showcased the 3D display (which was mounted on top of the GameCube) in 2002 or 2003 on the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Only thing was that they didn’t turn on the 3D effect so everyone thought it was a normal display that could be used with the GameCube. Great video. I still own a GameCube.
I thought it was THE most powerful.... Edit: THOUGHT! CHILL PEOPLE, THOUGHT! I get that it's not so you can stop telling me over and over and over again I GET IT!!! Sheesh!
I got a purple and a silver version that is like new, I will never get rid of them. Still play fire emblem and twilight princess and so many other GameCube games
I forget when they had that dvd promo with all the trailers but that was legit the best advertising I've ever seen in my life. I know the ps2 had massive hits but not having one when it launched and instead having the cube, it was amazing. Just so many games and a full color booklet to boot? Holy hell.
The GameCube is the one Nintendo system I completely missed out on growing up. I grew up in a household where my parents would only ever buy one of the consoles. So I grew up playing NES, SNES, N64, but by the time GameCube I was a young teenager and I wanted the ‘grown up’ games and went PS2. It was only well within my college years did I come back and buy a Wii very late in its lifecycle. I’ve had every Nintendo home console since.
The game cube is one of the greatest game consoles ever: -it had far less games then other consoles, not to mention pcs -it didn't support networking unlike other consoles, not to mention pcs -it didn't support cds nor dvds unlike other consoles, not to mention pcs -it was designed to look like a clown vomit unlike other consoles, not to mention pcs Truly the greatest game console ever. It is to be expected from a company that: -treated and still treats 3rd party developers like stray dogs begging for a bone unlike -enforced family friendly liberal bullshit onto games and software and standardised and normalized corporate censorship atop of governmental censorship in the process -fought tooth and nail against cross platforming -fought tooth and nail against publishing on multiple platforms, practically raising a virtual berlin wall between gamers that won't let its costumers play non nintendo games nor let other platform gamers play nintendo games -actively hunts down and sues people trying to build or find a way to play nintendo games that requires a console nintendo no longer makes nor support the game itself, leaving no legal way to play the games they have already paid for.
most of my favourite videogames of all time are Gamecube games: Paper Mario TTYD, Pikmin 1 & 2, Animal Crossing, Melee, Soul Calibur 2, Metroid Prime, etc etc. this video is fantastically done!
The PS2 didn't sell well because it had a DVD player, that was marketing spin at the time. Most people who bought a PS2 already had a DVD player, they weren't as expensive as people today think that they were. The DVD player function was a marketing point for sure, but people who bought a PS2 only mentioned the DVD player as a satellite reason for wanting a PS2. People bought the PS2 because it was made by Sony and the PS1 was so popular.
You're doing an awesome job with these videos. I grew up playing video games ever since the original NES and I still game today. So these videos take me down memory lane which I really enjoyed
Awesome video! Thank you! Your GameCube nostalgia is wonderful and comical because the only TV you could connect it to was in your kitchen. Very cute. - SNES Gen
I remember my brother buying a gamecube back then but never playing it because I was to busy playing my Ps2. But months later I went in his room and just happened to boot up Metroid Prime due to boredom. After hearing the title music I was HOOKED! The atmosphere, game mechanics, story and the music...oh the beautiful music mesmerized me. Needless to say I went on to beat the game and its predecessor, enjoying ever minute on the gamecube. To this day I have never played a series that made me feel so isolated and alone like I was actually in the game like Metroid prime did during that generation.
Oh Boy, your passing mention of the Wavebird controller was pathetic. To this day it's still one of the best controllers out there for any system. For being wireless the response of that controller is unbelievable and reliable.
'pathetic' wow haha... strong words, calm down 0.o He had already mentioned that the GCN controller layout is one of the best ever, the fact a wireless version was then made doesn't need to be elaborated THAT much...
Don't forget it doesn't have rumble if that's an important feature to a player. So it did have at least one downside. But I do remember GI's thoughts on it. They called it Martian technology!
I’d say the most “off” Nintendo has been, was during their Wii U tenure. But they learned from past mistakes, and brought us the switch. A console that has sold very well, and that has been positively received by fans and critics alike.
@@jimbeaux89 it felt like Nintendo was trying to find themselves, in a post GTA3 world. Sunshine wasn’t that great, to me. The rerelease on Switch reminded me of that. Double Dash...I honestly don’t remember why I couldn’t get into this game, but I remember putting it aside, about a month after purchase. I will say, I did enjoy Eternal Darkness. I didn’t find Melee enjoyable. I could go on. N64 is my favorite Nintendo system. I had so many incredible moments playing that system. Not to mention how revolutionary it was. I didn’t feel that with the GC. Also, they made so many blunders that didn’t help. Introducing that Zelda trailer, then give the public Wind Waker instead was huge. Almost like FF7 being announced for PSone instead of the 64, huge! E3’s dedicated to games like Pac-Man vs., while people waited for the MEGATON announcement, which never came. Of course, this is all personal taste, Honestly, I bought the GC on launch day, hated it, repacked it, and got my money back. Thats the only time I’ve don’t something like that. I bought another one, later. I don’t remember what compelled me to. Maybe it was the release of Sunshine.
Lol. "Eedios" gave me a good chuckle 😉. It's *eye-dos*. Also, Dolby pro logic II was stereo audio upmixed to 5 channels. The only way to get true discreet 5.1 channel audio back then, was a digital output, which was optical only.
Nintendo nearly had it all in the bag in the western market! If they had been a bit more savvy, they could have done a huge marketing campaign that would highlight both the family friendly aspect AND the content available for more mature audiences! What a shame.
Great times! Being a lower class family, the price drop made it possible for someone like me to get a console that wasn't 2 generations old. I would take my GameCube everywhere and phantasy star online ep1and2 is still one of my most played games. Miss these days sometimes.
So I was introduced to your channel thanks to your compilation of the entire series of videos you did of Nintendo versus Sega and now I'm watching your video of the life of the GameCube all of your videos put together, and I'm noticing something but to be honest it probably was something I think you resolved cuz I don't think I noticed it in your later Sega versus Nintendo compilation, but I kept hearing stuff in the background when you recorded your voice. Anyways, I grew up in the 90s so I was actually quite familiar with the Super Nintendo and the Sega Genesis and also quite familiar with the N64 and the PS1. I was 13 years old when the GameCube came out and I definitely loved playing the GameCube but even back then I could admit there was some problems with it especially when I noticed that medal of Honor rising Sun which was an excellent first person shooter at the time that game required two discs on the GameCube version while the Xbox and the PS2 versions only required one disc. Of course there are a lot of other games that required two discs, but my goodness we should have been past that. Sure during the PS1 era there was some games on that console that required two discs, but technology had advanced so that just should not have been the case in the next generation but it was with the gamecuben that was kind of annoying. The first home console I ever bought came out when I was 18 and that was the Nintendo wii. I think I also bought the Nintendo DS or it was bought for me as a Christmas gift I don't remember. Obviously since I'm well into my adulthood at 33 years old every game console I have I have bought for myself, but anyways looking back at the GameCube it was awesome, but there were some things that a lot of us didn't seem to like back then which even included the controller. I'm not kidding, some of my friends when they came over would complain about the GameCube controller all the time, but nowadays it's considered one of the greatest controllers ever. I think just cuz of how weird the controller was and how the buttons were different sizes it just seemed kind of odd, but looking back at it I realized the design was genius. Making the a button so big made sense it made the controller's buttons all different shapes and having the a button be so big is perfect because it's the button you are going to use the most.
GameCube does not use a "MiniDisk" , it uses what's actually called the "Nintendo Disk" , developed by panasonic , it is more comparable on some levels to a Mini DVD , although not exactly the same , Nothing like a MinDisk developed by sony as a rewritable audio disk using the ATRAC compression system
As an American, you probably should've mentioned Europe when it came to receiving games like Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing on their home consoles; as it was also their first introduction to the series too.
The GameCube was my first ever console, and to this day is my favourite. Luigi's Mansion is also my favourite game of all time. Such an underrated system and game that deserved so much better in terms of sales
Out of all of the games released on the Nintendo Gamecube, it was a game originally released on the SEGA Dreamcast, Skies of Arcadia, that is my fav Nintendo Gamecube game.
Over an hour long video and barely a mention of Rouge Squadron 2. That’s one of the best Star Wars flight simulators to this day and it’s graphics, which were incredible at the time, more than hold up.
Please please please do more of these “story of....”. My hope is you’d do Wii, 3DS, or ps3 next. But they are such high quality I’ll take anything. I watch these over and over again and thirst for more. Thank you...
14:13-14:17 Care to share your source for this? 30:14-30:21 Also, this isn't true. Atari released a wireless controller for the VCS in 1981. Sega released infrared Genesis controllers during the Genesis's lifespan. And, Sega also made infrared controllers for the Saturn. You can look them up if you don't believe me.
I would love to see The Story of the NES, SNES, Genesis and PlayStation. This content is amazing and you deserve way more subscribers then you currently have.
Spot on. Whilst I see the appeal in certain aspects of the Gamecube controller design, those who consider it “one of the best” obviously never used it for any games that benefit from any of the following: - A good D-Pad - dual bumpers - more than one important face button - clickable analog sticks - an actual 2nd analog stick and not a... yellow nipple? - a Select button And I still feel like I’m forgetting something lol.
Ya the ps2 controller was better for traditional fighting games like tekken, soul caliber, virtual fighter, mortal kombat GameCube controller is best for smash bros wich is a unique fighting game that’s best with the GameCube controller
I wish my sister and I wouldn't have missed out on the gamecube era. We were bought a N64 for xmas 1999 and ended up just playing that throughout the 2000s. I did pick up a gamecube early last year though so I can start exploring what I missed.

@matt snyder yea, I agree
I would argue rather than remake it and put that effort into making a new series. The Wii, the 3ds, so many options.
Only thing I would change: the GameCube didn't achieve the sales numbers of its competitors, but it didn't "fail".

Did you get a Wii at some point also?
Madden 08, an otherwise unremarkable title.
Scott the Woz: [rage ensues]
They should've added Grover Cleveland
I'm a huge Resident evil fan. I remember the day GTA Vice city was coming out going to the mall with my big brother. There was a long waiting line ready for Vice citys release. They let me Come in the store and I told them I was selling my ps2 for a GameCube and a copy of Resident evil remake. People were looking at me like I was crazy lol. Good ole days. That's when Game Stop gave you good deals.
The Twilight Princess reveal is my favorite E3 moment ever. And I wasn't even on the internet at that point. But the crowd's reaction is just awesome.
Too bad the game is so forgettable, I wanted to like it so much
@@fourlokouva Really?!
It's funny. When I was a teen I thought the GameCube was for little kids. Now that im older I absolutely love it
This is a great little documentary.!

Thanks for the comment! I switched to a new microphone and camera after I finished this series so hopefully later videos look and sound better.
resident evil 0 is amazing too once you get past the difficulty and tedious inventory management. i actually ended up liking it a little more than remake after i beat it a couple times.
i love you
"Eidios" :p
Enjoying the video!
Just one thing to note, Wind Waker never got a "full remake" on the Wii U. It was a remaster.
I was at E3 2001 when they showcased the Gamecube, and it was such a blast to play it. Rogue Squadron was my favorite to play on the expo floor. What a party!
Yeah well wgaf
My favorite console.
These games are excellent
Wind Waker
Melee
Metroid Prime 1/2
Pikmin 1/2
Luigi's Mansion
Mario Sunshine
Mario Kart Double Dash
So much Mario. Geez
Sonic Adventures 2 : Battle , Mario Party 6 , StarFox adventures
I agree with you on those. I loved ssx too. A snowboarding game for those who dont know

I disagree capcom helped the gamecube alot what other console of the early 2000's had the entire resident evil franchise besides the gamecube none the gamecube had resident evil 0.1.2.3.4.Cv that's the reason I chose the gamecube was because of the resident evil franchise.
Gamecube was the best console for Resident Evil

Capcom helped out the cube w Viewtiful Joe!
Resident evil 4 was the best. I put so much hours into it
No. Resident Evil 1 Remake and Resident Evil 0.
No console ever got as much playtime as the GameCube in our household. Just playing back-to-back 90-minute Melee matches for weeks at a time, City Trial in Kirby air ride, whatever that Wario game was called, and 30 other masterpieces
The game was called Wario World.
I watched this whole thing, very nice job on it.
❤️
I agree!
I was so excited when the Capcom exclusives were announced. I really loved viewtiful joe, re4, and killer7. Suda 51 and grasshopper studios are among my favorite developers, if not number 1. I may have never known about his games if it wasn’t for my GameCube.
This was absolutely incredible! A thoroughly wonderful look at the GameCube right here.
I loved gamecube when I was young the game I liked the most was the remake to Sonic Adventure Sonic DX
Plus, The Legend of Zelda collectors edition was awesome. Unfortunately I was still a little too young at the time to beat Majora’s Mask, because Pamela’s dad scared the crap out of me.
What a great video. Gamecube is my favorite console of all times. Always the underdog!
mine too
This is my favourite console. Great work on this video
I love these retrospectives and I have to say that this is by far the most comprehensive available for the Gamecube.
Everyone loves gamecube and Dreamcast yet everyone didn’t buy GameCube and Dreamcast….
I bought a Dreamcast .
A lot of those who say they love the GameCube these days are mostly posers.
Those who say they love the Dreamcast and say its the "greatest system" ever these days are kids who got stuck in the past.
Such fond memories of the GameCube. A lot of the classics still hold up today, wind waker, smash bro’s, Luigi mansion, resident evil 4 to name a few
I thought Luigi's mansion was way too short of a game
Absolutely brilliant and relevant. Keep playing Gamecube!
wish i still had mine just so i could play metroid prime. my favorite metroid and one of my favorite games of all time.
Jack M Dolphine 5.0 😉
The GameCube is one of the greatest retro consoles ever!
In 2003, on Nintendo forums, actual Nintendo fans were saying "this system has horrible third party support, how can Nintendo learn from this and make sure they NEVER make a mistake like the Gamecube again."
By 2013, people on Nintendo forums were saying "Nintendo needs to get back into gear and make a GOOD system like the Gamecube that third parties are actually willing to develop for."
59:14 “It was Madden 08, an otherwise unremarkable title” Scott would be furious
😂
I know this is old but I really enjoyed it. I've been homebrewing my Wii and playing all the Wii and GC games. Between that and this video I'm on a nostalgia bender. Thank you and subbed.
I’m late to this doc, but it was great! Awesome retrospective, and great job. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

so many great memories with the gamecube. i remember always going across the street to play it at a family friends house. then one day he just gave it to us and me and my siblings had so much fun playing games like melee and sonic adventure 2. definitely a great console
The Wii was kind of a "mixed bag" while it did make them money in the short term is set up the catastrophic failure that was the Wii U.

Amen
About the stereoscopic 3D: Panasonic (who also developed the dvd drive for the GameCube) made a stereoscopic 3D screen for the GameCube. Nintendo actually showcased the 3D display (which was mounted on top of the GameCube) in 2002 or 2003 on the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Only thing was that they didn’t turn on the 3D effect so everyone thought it was a normal display that could be used with the GameCube. Great video. I still own a GameCube.
The gamecube was awesome and underrated for its time.
Wow, thank you for taking so much time in putting together this immersed and informative video on the GameCube. Bravo 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼
Nintendo gamecube was the best by far!! Love it since I got it when it was released. I have had all 3 systems, and gamecube is my favorite

Resident Evil 4 is one of the best games ever im like round 28 last time I hooked up my ps2
I don't know how i just now found this channel but good job. I love videogame history. Keep 'em coming!
The game cube is one of the greatest game consoles ever:
-it had far less games then other consoles, not to mention pcs
-it didn't support networking unlike other consoles, not to mention pcs
-it didn't support cds nor dvds unlike other consoles, not to mention pcs
-it was designed to look like a clown vomit unlike other consoles, not to mention pcs
Truly the greatest game console ever. It is to be expected from a company that:
-treated and still treats 3rd party developers like stray dogs begging for a bone unlike
-enforced family friendly liberal bullshit onto games and software and standardised and normalized corporate censorship atop of governmental censorship in the process
-fought tooth and nail against cross platforming
-fought tooth and nail against publishing on multiple platforms, practically raising a virtual berlin wall between gamers that won't let its costumers play non nintendo games nor let other platform gamers play nintendo games
-actively hunts down and sues people trying to build or find a way to play nintendo games that requires a console nintendo no longer makes nor support the game itself, leaving no legal way to play the games they have already paid for.
most of my favourite videogames of all time are Gamecube games: Paper Mario TTYD, Pikmin 1 & 2, Animal Crossing, Melee, Soul Calibur 2, Metroid Prime, etc etc. this video is fantastically done!
Your summary brought the entire video together so beautifully! Great job!
The Switch has the reach the GameCube should of had. We failed the GameCube. The GC didn't fail, it just underperformed.

'pathetic' wow haha... strong words, calm down 0.o
He had already mentioned that the GCN controller layout is one of the best ever, the fact a wireless version was then made doesn't need to be elaborated THAT much...
Don't forget it doesn't have rumble if that's an important feature to a player. So it did have at least one downside.
But I do remember GI's thoughts on it. They called it Martian technology!
Dude the wavebird truly is one of the best controllers of all time.
Chill dude no one cares
Also the Wavebird was the first wireless remote controller for a console. Sony and Microsoft copied it after.

Something felt off about Nintendo during this era. The GameCube is my least favorite of their systems. Great channel! Should be bigger!
I’d say the most “off” Nintendo has been, was during their Wii U tenure. But they learned from past mistakes, and brought us the switch. A console that has sold very well, and that has been positively received by fans and critics alike.
The library was the strongest of all
@@jimbeaux89 it felt like Nintendo was trying to find themselves, in a post GTA3 world. Of course, this is all personal taste,
Honestly, I bought the GC on launch day, hated it, repacked it, and got my money back.
I start playing the Part 3 video...THEN I NOTICED THIS. SWITCH! (Pun not intended).
I really appreciate your extensive investigation--Thank you. So many life changing memories with this console
Nintendo nearly had it all in the bag in the western market! If they had been a bit more savvy, they could have done a huge marketing campaign that would highlight both the family friendly aspect AND the content available for more mature audiences! What a shame.
PR always held em down. The allowed sega to make fun of them with genesis does what nintendo'nt and sony with that stupid bandicoot megaphone video
Great times! Being a lower class family, the price drop made it possible for someone like me to get a console that wasn't 2 generations old. I would take my GameCube everywhere and phantasy star online ep1and2 is still one of my most played games. Miss these days sometimes.
It was the cheapest current gen console ever I think, I got it for 99 bucks with Metroid Prime somewhere around 2003.

@@HardcoreGamer4Ever just picked that up from my local comic store!
Glad you enjoyed it! Gamecube is the oldest video and I've upgraded all of my equipment since then. Check out some of the other console series too! 😊
I think he just means "a miniature disk", not MiniDisc. Obviously GC games are not stored on a Sony audio format.

"One of the best controllers ever made "..........yeah for Melee. And Melee alone.
Spot on. Whilst I see the appeal in certain aspects of the Gamecube controller design, those who consider it “one of the best” obviously never used it for any games that benefit from any of the following:
- A good D-Pad
- dual bumpers
- more than one important face button
- clickable analog sticks
- an actual 2nd analog stick and not a... yellow nipple?
- a Select button
And I still feel like I’m forgetting something lol.
