The GameCube came out when I was a senior in high school. Shortly thereafter my parents moved away, I started college, a job, and my first time in life being truly alone and facing the world on my own. The system became a place for me to escape from the hardships of life and growing up. Lots of great memories.

Well said, I echo this. I played more gamecube than anything from that era, and I had xbox and ps2 as well. I was a lucky kid in that console era. But I will admit I played way too much halo as well.
Hard not to ignore that the basis of this retrospective seems to be around Metroid Dread.
I miss Nintendo Power. That magazine had me so hyped for Banjo Kazooie back in the day.
This made me tear up a little. The GameCube is definitely my most formative console as well.

The system was not a commercial failure, not by a long shot compared to the Virtual boy, Wii U, Atari Jaguar, Sega Saturn & Dreamcast, Atari 5200 and other real failed systems.
I still have a GameCube and I still play it to this day. The GameCube was what made me fall in love with videogames in the first place.
That transition at the end to Animal Crossing was perfect.
I remember as a kid I would start a new game in Zelda, Mario, Resi 4, etc. and would play that game to completion. Afterward I would pop in Animal Crossing and pull up weeds, clean my house, and just enjoy myself. I always thought of it as "coming home" after a long and perilous journey.

Just emulate. You can play Gamecube games with visual enhancements to make it look like they were released in the current year.
@@marshallbeck9101 For me the 3rd party library on Nintendo consoles have always far outshone what they have been capable of more often than not (which is why I am so disappointed with the Switch.) The GBA has Metroid, the DS has... Fossil Fighters? It was technically published by Nintendo but made by an indie team so it is in this weird grey-area. Otherwise Nintendo has made nothing worthwhile on those two consoles.
Animal crossing for GameCube is my favorite video game experience ever. Having something to do, someone to talk to, a place of your own to decorate and pay off. It's just amazing.
I have fond memories in that game as a kid, it has a certain cozy feeling other AC games don't quite have, it felt like the characters had more to say and you never knew what kind of crazy letter you'd get in the mail. I love that game.
Yeah that sounds great but you can also do all of that in Animal crossing: new horizons for the Nintendo switch and it's also simply just a better game
@@jackmckeown616 not at all my Man. The GameCube was so much more fun. The new switch game is very contrived and just feels like a beta game. When animal crossing came out it wasn’t beta. It was actually a full game. I enjoyed the one on switch for like the seconds.
@@jackmckeown616New Horizons visuals, customisation and quality of life can’t be beat. However, the characters, music and atmosphere in the original is still amazing. There are also numerous events and features that never returned which makes the original still quite unique. Many people have a lot of different takes on what animal crossing game is the best.

The way you describe videogames and especially the Gamecube in taking you back to a time where nothing else mattered but playing a good game really hit me in my feelings. This Christmas I have been revisiting my Gamecube, and it has really helped take me away from the worries of today and back to a simpler time in my life :')

Yeah it did. Nintendo's decisions that were made are worse than that of the Wii U. And Nintendo at least tried to save the Wii U unlike the GameCube.
i grew up with the n64 and gamecube as my main consoles and only ones and noe even i can acknowledge their shortcomings dude lol it wasn't until later when i was able to get a ps2 on my own and learned about the history within the industry that i learned how nintendo really screwed themselves over with their decisions.. not only did they create an enviroment that was like a dictator in a communist country with their policies and how they treated their developers on their systems, they literally isolated their system with how they demanded developers on thier consoles... i'm not gonna try to justify and defend nintendo and their faults, and try to act like they were the best thing ever, they've obviously learned from their mistakes but theres a reason why developers flocked to sony's platforms lol
theres a reason why sony has dominated every single generation except the 7th gen.. when the wii won. reguardless sony still pulled through and beat microsoft that generation, but every other generation they've dominated to great success and even made nintendo stop selling consumers short with handhelds when they debuted the PSP, and made nintendo stop selling underpowered handhelds on purpose, and made them cut the GBA short and rushout the DS. just to compete.. you've got to stop fanboying and realize the reality bro lol
The GameCube might've sold fewer than expected, but it wasn't a financial flop like the Wii U was.

I didn’t played the GameCube that much when I was young, I was too young to comprehend most stuff, but I did enjoy what I played, especially Metroid Prime.
It's funny, my experience is essentially the opposite- I'd go over to my "friend's" house [more just family friends who had kids] solely to play Double Dash and flounder around in Thousand-Year Door. I specifically remember Metroid Prime being the first game I ever rented from my local retro games store on my 12th or 13th birthday, and being so incredibly stressed and freaked out by the escape sequence after defeating the Parasite Queen that it ruined my night, lol. To this day, I'm still lukewarm towards the Prime trilogy, and especially dislike Prime 2.

I'm still haunted by the store demo I played of Metroid Prime so many years ago, and now Metroid Dread and AM2R have finally reminded me of it and pulled me into Metroid at last, so it'll be satisfying to finally play the game I got a taste of seemingly a lifetime ago
I wasn't even alive during the GameCube era but I have to admit it truly does have some of the best Nintendo games hands-down.

Whew, it still boggles me when I meet people that werent even ALIVE when I was a little kid. I remember the Gamecube as my first sixth gen console. Launch titles for me were Luigi's Mansion and Rogue Squadron

I remember as a kid I wanted a gamecube so badly, my parents bought me a plantium version that came with Metroid Prime, my first introduction to the Metroid franchise, I got to own 3 more games and had a couple borrowed, overall I think the GameCube is still my most favorite console.
My parent got a gamecube for me before I was born and they got three games originally. Double Dash, SSBM, and Sonic Mega Collection. They used to play with me on double dash and even fight me on smash. Countless memories come back when I think about it. Moral of the story! My childhood was founded off of that purple square!

I've had the PS2 and first Xbox in my home, GameCube definitely brought back more memories. Idk if it was because I was a kid and Nintendo had more easy games compared to my older brother who like shooting games

They are so good at making video games and innovating in gameplay but everything else it seems like they play russian roulette.
Everyone was disappointed. But I expected nothing from Nintendo. They just aren't what they used to be.
My first console as a very young child was the N64 (mostly watching my older cousins play), but I spent the most time in my early childhood with the Gamecube.
I have so many fond memories playing the Gamecube with my older sister for hours and hours-Animal Crossing, TimeSplitters 2, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Star Fox Adventures, Wind Waker, Pikmin, Paper Mario TTYD, Super Monkey Ball, Wario World…I could honestly go on and on.
Thanks for taking me back to such dear memories!
I remember when Sonic Mega Collection came out, I thought “wow, these compilations are going to rock if they are like this”. Little did I know that that was the peak of compilations.
the little cube with the most comfortable controller to play with ever. A few come close but nobody has topped just how great it felt holding that controller for hours upon hours, and against the playstation it was no contest.

@@kennypyne7821 the ps4 is the first of the consoles I bought as I couldn't stand the controllers. Im so glad someone finally introduced sony to the concept of ergonomic comfort. Have a ps2 emulator I run a 360 controller on so I can play the ones I missed without the added "feature" of cramping fingers.
WORD! The Gamecube controller was the best, look at the XBox 360, it's almost a copy of the original GC design
@@Colonel_Overkill the only PS controller I ever had issues with was the PS3 controller. Although this perhaps can be chalked up to my having smaller hands during the PS1 and PS2 eras. I came of age while using the PS2 into the beginning of the PS3's life.
Also the GameCube controller is not comfortable for GB games.
PS2 smoked everything else back then. They dropped the ball on the PS3 but the first two Sony consoles were nothing short of incredible and include some of the best games of all time.
Definitely kind of a bummer Nintendo doesn’t make more of the GameCube library more accessible for people who don’t wanna break the bank trying to find their original out of print copies.

Nintendo is only refusing to rerelease GameCube Games to spite consumers for not buying enough of them 20 years ago.
I wish they would try to give the Gamecube the NS online treatment; I get the emulation isn't as good as what you'd get on Dolphin, but just the fact that you can play N64 games, but not GC is disappointing. I was hoping that Nintendo was going to fix that starting with the Super Mario Sunshine port to Switch (being part of the 3D All Stars collection), but I've been exposed to N64 technology and games that the magic had worn off.
For the longest time, I've wanted to play Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, but I can't because neither Nintendo nor Silicon Knights ever tried porting or remastering ED.
@@noahjester8471 I wish they would close NS Online and just sell games, like they used to on the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS. I'm not subscribing to anything, paying money for years and years and years, only to have absolutely nothing to show for it when the company decides to go and pull the plug on the service. I don't pay for Xbox Live Gold, Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation Plus, PlayStation Now, or Nintendo Switch Online. I pay for games. And while I may not have them forever due to physical media decay, digital DRM getting tripped, or just the systems themselves breaking down, I'll sure have them for a heck of a lot longer than any subscription service is going to last.

Got the GameCube with Zelda collectors edition for Christmas 2003. I was 9 years old, and it changed my life playing some of my favorite games of all time
This video makes my heart so happy, but also sad. I lost my GameCube in a tornado and never got another one, but man, the memories I had on those games will last me a lifetime.
My favorite Gamecube memory was my mom refusing to get me one and buying me an Xbox instead because "it is more manly" but like after still insisting I wanted a gamecube I got one the next year so I got to experience all 3 consoles of that generation just because she really didn't want me to play Nintendo stuff.
I enjoy the concept of a mom going, "you're a MAN now, you can't play Mario Kart!"

I have a little pleasure. Seeing reviews for older consoles. Typically, they tread the same ground. Just 10-ish minute videos talking about the early history, showing some games, that's it.
I wanted something longer. I wanted something more rewatchable. I wanted something more sentimental. And I wanted something, for the Gamecube. You have delivered that, Liam.

I never owned a Gamecube as a kid, although I desperately wanted one. I did eventually play the games I wanted on my Wii, but that was long enough ago that the nostalgia has come full circle for me.
i'm glad you mentioned Sonic Gems Collection. When I first got my gamecube, that was the game that made me fall in love with the sonic franchise as a whole.
I started working in the industry about 6 years ago and doing so gave me SOOOOO much respect for the unpatchable, (almost) bug free experiences of the past.

GameCube…one of the most underrated consoles of all time. I absolutely regret not experiencing its brilliance and amazing library until my last year in HS. The younger version of me thought that I had outgrown my “childish” Nintendo 64 days by owning a PS2. The reality is that Nintendo has provided me with some of the greatest gaming memories of all time, and I almost missed out on classics like Wind Waker, Sunshine, both Metroid Primes, and one of my top 5 video games of all time, RE4.

Very good video. Definitely a window to the past. I always had PlayStation as a kid but I remember me and my brother got a GameCube for one Christmas and looking back on it it was a probably ahead of it’s time. I remember playing one of the earlier pro evolutions on there and loving it. It’s in the attic somewhere and maybe one day I’ll dig it out.
Was anyone else 100% certain as a kid that Nintendo was going make the game sphere after the GameCube? It was only logical.

The Wii was originally called the Revolution, which are generally thought of as spherical.
The Gamecube is my favorite system to play as a kid. I remember growing into the system since my family played PS1 and 2 games a few years prior. The Super Monkey Ball games, the Wario games, Sonic, F-Zero, and Mario titles were my favorites and I still enjoy playing their recent entries today because of it. The 3rd party multiplatform co-op platforms like the Nicktoons and Ninja Turtles games provided some great memories although I would not recommend playing those games alone nowadays because they are boring without friends.
I still smile after hearing that opening theme before a game would start, I consider it as iconic and I'm sure many do too
I remember 17-18 years ago I saw a GameCube at the mall and really wanted one but my parents had already bought me a PS2 for christmas so I never experienced being part of the GC community. Fast forward to last year I finally went out and bought a used one on ebay and I've never been more excited about a console as I was when the package finally arrived.
Mario Kart: Double Dash is now my favorite Mario Kart ever. Used to be Super Mario Kart from 1992 but it's become Double Dash. My favorite tracks are Peach Beach and Daisy Cruiser. Relaxing courses.
That triforce arcade Mario Kart is f'n insane, man. Get a Wii, mod it, and put a hard drive on it because you probably won't find a way to play it on the cube easily, and dolphin emulation can be great on PC even with low specs, bit finding a reliable release for every game you want to play will make you quit.
@@AgeofReason I run dolphin emulator completely fine on Android lol. And it's really not even that expensive to buy a Gamecube.
I wish there was more than 16 tracks though, that's why I can't play it anymore.
Double dash is the best mariokart, the combination of having any 2 characters and each character having a special like big bananas, bowser shells, or the yoshi/birdo egg just opens up a lot of depth. (I found mariokart wii weird in that other than weight classes the characters only appear to be aesthetic differences, this is because i started in double dash which is the weird mariokart making me think the "normal ones" are weird)

Your channel gave me a huge appreciation for the older Madden, NBA, and NHL games (generally old EA and old 2K). Prior to that I just lumped them all together as all pure garbage.

GameCube is an all-time favorite of mine. Still remember my 6th birthday when my Dad took me to a Target soon after moving to Georgia, and it was the main thing that helped me adjust to my new environment, at least until we moved back home after a year. Everytime I hear the Wind Waker main theme or Phendrana Drifts I go back to those years before the world had the chance to jade me. I love your work. Been watching for a little over 2 years now and its been great to see this channel grow. Especially love the focus on soundtracks like with the Doom, Pikmin, Metroid, and Max Payne 3 videos.
RIP in peace to the GameCube. I had such wonderful memories of it in college. Dorm room battles in Smash Bros. Melee were the stuff of legends. We had so much fun crammed in front of my 13” TV playing that game. It’s a such a shame how expensive all that hardware is now, I certainly regret getting rid of it all back in the day.
SA2B is one of my favorite games of all time. Made so many good memories on that game with an old friend that moved away a long time ago. We spent thousands of hours playing SA2B together over the summer of 2002. We co raised a chao together named Jojo. That was 20 years ago now and I still think back to those days often. I miss them so much.
Damn, this is enough to make a grown man cry. It’s beautiful and sad that we don’t have too many ways to play these classics. But looking at how Nintendo has handled the N64 on switch so far I’m not so certain I want them touching the GameCube library until they can definitely do it right.
I know nintendo hates pirates and the emulation communities, but they really should consider contracting the devs for top nintendo system emulators like the folks who made project 64 and dolphin. If ya know you can't get it right and don't want to be laughed for sneakily snagging roms and emulators from em. I really think they could easily get the help they need. Alas sega does what nintendont still. (Paying the skilled fans to make games and SOME ports for them)
@@blindedjourneyman Dolphin is probably the best emulator that exists and runs these games better than native hardware. It is morally correct to pirate Nintendo games, dont worry.

The gamecube will always be my favorite game system. It had so many games to play and I just have so many good memories of this system. Honestly, I still sometimes go back to play it and just get soooo nostalgic.
The nostalgia is a wonderful look into many of the pleasant experiences I had growing up including solo adventures, challenges faced with friends and a cooperative growth experienced by my sister and I as we worked together to solve puzzles, overcome challenges and face off against one another in so many different ways. This video also makes me thankful and, admittedly, more than a little sad. I feel old reflecting on what once was and no longer is. I love video games for the universes that they create, the stories that they tell, the challenges that they propose and the objective possibility of overcoming a seemingly insurmountable task. I hope we one day see the gamecube library recognized and shared and that I one day have the chance to look back on its legacy and to reminisce on some of the happy times during my childhood.
I recently started playing game cube games through my wii using a hard drive, and honestly, it's so much fun. I'm so glad these games are still accessible to my generation, as many of us didn't get a chance to grow up with these games and experience the same nostalgia. There's still a massive community of people in the younger generations who love and appreciate game cube games, including myself and many of my friends. I regularly play the older Mario Party games with my housemates and super monkey ball with my other friends. I've played a lot of games, but I also still have so many I want to experience. I think the legacy of the game cube still lives on :))

I love how the Sonic Collection had the game manuals. That’s really missing from the NES, SNES, and N64 online. But where it’s really felt is Mario 3D All Stars. I hated that I had to look up how to do all the jumps for M64 and Sunshine.
I just got metroid dread and was a little disappointed there was no pamphlet in the game case. Just the game and an empty waste of plastic.
1un4cy Dread would really benefit from a manual with instruction on how to do the moves. I only have the demo and found it quite difficult to have text pop up and tell you to perfectly time a melee attack.
If I had read about it in a manual before hand and had drawings to look at how to do it, I would have been better prepared. I kept dying over and over in the demo to that little crab you have to melee.

It been almost a year since I picked up a GameCube, and it’s still shocking to me how amazing it is. I grew up with a Wii, and never knew anything about the GameCube backwards compatibility, hell I learned that the Wii had the GameCube ports only a couple years ago, so I have no nostalgic connection to the GameCube. Yet I can for sure say, even going into 2022, that a GameCube is a worthwhile purchase. The amazing library and memories you can make with friends and with all the single player games is absolutely worth it. Thank you for making this video.
Also thanks for talking about Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2, these games were one of the main reasons I got a GameCube, just cause of all the amazing things I’ve heard about them
Thanks for this video. At 38 years old I remember the gc well. It wasn’t my favorite system, the n64, PlayStation 2, the switch hold my top spots and the snes and sega genesis for childlike nostalgia years. But the gc still holds a special place in my heart. Even though I remember being very confused by a lot of the decisions back then, that eventually led to the wii, the Wii U and the switch etc, the blue ocean mentality. It turns out they were right in the long run.
I never owned a GameCube myself. But visiting the homes of friends that did own them, the memories of playing with the definitely felt like something special, and this video just highlights the unique experiences I had hardly had the time to fully appreciate with the platforms I grew up on.

same, my parents only got me handhelds like GBA or the DS until a year or two after the wii came out, but i loved playing n64 and gamecube at my friends houses whenever i got the chance, so even games i hardly got to play at all can give me nostalgia from seeing gameplay. I have dolphin just never open it when im sitting down staring at my hundreds of steam games wondering what to play. I should actually play through all the gamecube games i liked playing or watching my friends play as a kid
Watching this made me super nostalgic and kind of emotional in a way.. I remember getting my GameCube with Luigis Mansion for Christimas when I was a kid and i adored it and all the games I've played on it. The sonic games, super Mario sunshine, pikmin, Wind Waker, BILLY HATCHER and of course animal crossing and so much more. I miss them all and while I still have some of these games and my old memory cards I regretfully got rid of my GameCube years ago.. watching this makes me want to buy one again to replay or continue playing the games I still have and just relive and bask in that nostalgia xd Thank you for making this ❤

The GameCube, PS2, and my neighbors OG Xbox literally introduced me to gaming. I never knew it until years later how amazing these consoles where, and I think the GameCube is my favorite of that console generation. The quality of the games is unbeaten too this day, with games like F-Zero, Smash Meelee, Double Dash... it was so good that to this day I have a hard time enjoying a lot of the new games we get on the new consoles. Maybe I should move on... but there was just something magical about the GameCube.

Even though I played SNES and N64 and was familiar with the Nintendo universe, it wasn't until the Gamecube did it really click for me. This is where I fell in love with Mario, Zelda and Metroid games. Great video, very nostalgic!
Out of all the nintendo systems, the gamecube has aged the best. Mario kart double dash, Fzero, Metroid Prime, Smash melee, Soul Calibur 2, Wind Waker, Paper Mario, Viewtiful Joe, and Resident evil 1 remake look gorgeous and play great. The weird controller was something very special too.

The gamecube was such a overlooked console at the time. I was playing animal crossing, harvest moon magical melody, and smash all the time. The gameboy player is my main way to play gba games to this day. Awesome video!

Excellent video. You can really feel the passion and the nostalgia from the creator in this video and I enjoy hearing the different journeys that we games players take through from our childhood to adulthood. For Liam Triforce it was the gamecube but for me it was the old Commodore 64 and the 8 and 16-bit consoles, different machines used on different journeys but each journey makes a profound impact on your life and then becoming entwined with memories of childhood that make you yearn for those days of care free living.
Thats an incredible well made retrospective. The Nintendo GameCube has two of the best games of all time: Wind Waker and the glorious Metroid Prime. I played AC for several years! Unlocking the island with the link cable was magical. It was a time when games were about fun, turn your console on, take your controller and that's it. And now when we look back we see how important this console is. It's my second Nintendo fav console (1st N64). I still got mine.

Man the GameCube was so magical back in the early 2000s, even now when I turn on my GameCube from time to time I still get that nostalgic feeling hearing the jingle.
I am so glad you made a retrospective on this little cube. I know the nostalgia hype for this system is at a fever pitch at the time of this comment but the Gamecube really was one of the best systems ever made. This is coming from someone who was born in 1984 and grew up with the NES. I’ve pretty much seen the entire arch of the video game industry and yet I see the 6th Gen as one of the most unique we’ve ever had. 3D gaming had matured enough to get passed that “janky” phase and yet companies were still experimenting immensely. I don’t go back to older systems very often but the Gamecube is one of the few that still hold my interest. This use to be the case for the 4th Gen (considerably the peak of 2D games) but, honestly, after playing Super Mario World like 100 times, most of those games have been played enough. I think when all is said and done, the Gamecube and SNES will remain the systems that continued to be remembered as highlights of Nintendos illustrious career. I so not agree with you, but i appreciate your thoughts anyway :) i was extremely disappointed with the game library of the gc, and was the main reason why i left Team Nintendo. Never owned a Nintendo console since then
@@tobiassupercool2833 So if you “left Nintendo” where did you go? I personally have owned all the major consoles since the Genesis vs SNES days and don’t commit myself to any one company. They all have something different to offer, even today. In addition, while I owned the gamecube back when it came out, it wasn’t even my main system back then (played most of my games on the PS2, like most people my age did back then. Gotta get that GTA3 action).
@@leeartlee915 i usually only buy one console per generation. Thus i went with Xbox 360 and ps4. GC Just didn't fully deliver ob what was promised (e.g. great jrpgs). Furthermore, some.nintendo Franchise Games were really disappointing. Mario sunshine in my opinion is still the worst Mario of all time. Eternal darkness, the Resident evil remakes and viewtiful joe were brilliant. The rest i did not like that much. But of course it is Always a matter of personal taste :)
@@tobiassupercool2833 I hear ya. Sunshine was actually the reason I bought my GC when I was in college. It’s certainly my least favorite 3D Mario, even below 3D world. I don’t know, there’s just so much weird but cool stuff on there. F-zero GX, Pikmin, Metroid Prime, hell even That donkey Kong platformer with the bongos. But yeah, if JRPs were what you were after, GC was not the place.
Edit: I also forgot the game i probably have played more than any other on the system: Mario Golf Toadstool Tour. I know arcade golfing games aren’t for everyone but that has a game mode (ie club slots) that to this day has never been beat. I’ve probably played that game over 300 hours, no joke. It’s just a fun, unique console that for whatever reason hasn’t been replicated.
@@leeartlee915 facts the circumstances for the console and experimentation will likely never be replicated it’s such a fascinating era for games and the games are still so fun to play now. I been playing sonic adventure 2 lately and although it originally came out on Dreamcast it just fits with the time along with legendary games like Kirby air ride, wind waker, sunshine even though it’s controversial, paper Mario ttyd, Mario sports games, Metroid prime, F zero, pikmin, etc
In the third grade I won a GameCube off a Dr. Pepper bottle. I didn't even like the soda, I just knew about the giveaway and the first bottle I bought (reached all the way back) was a winner. Came with Luigi's mansion. Good memories :)
The GameCube was the first console I ever owned and for that, it will always hold a special place in my heart. When I unwrapped it bundled with Mario Kart: Double Dash on my birthday in March 2005, my life changed forever. Now 18 years later, my GameCube not only still works, but I also still play it just like I did all those years ago when I was a kid. So many great memories that I will never forget.
This video is how you pay homage in the most sincere way possible. I have a feeling that this video itself will be seen as a classic and because nostalgia in the future.
The Gamecube is a masterpiece. Just like this video. Hearing that Animal Crossing music brought a tear to my eye. Nintendo lost so much of the wackiness and uniqueness that made the Gamecube great.
(Which is no hate to Nintendo. It’s so incredibly hard to come up with something unique that is palatable to the fans. I just really miss the charm the 2000’s had on video games.)
Very well done great work of capturing a great time man. The amounts of hours soaked into this system and now today rebuilding my library I once had. Im a huge sports fan and this era was the best for it. I was 8 years old when the Gamecube was released. My first console was the N64 which I also obtained again and gathered my old library. At that age all my friends got the ps2 I opted because Super Mario 64 hooked me to gaming I felt obligated and excited to play Sunshine did not disappoint im glad I made that choice then over the ps2 wouldnt have ever spent hours fishing cathcing insects getting stung shaking trees for fruit breaking my shovel looking for the money rock on animal crossing. Chow garden MVP Baseball Midway sports games and just as you said todays gaming isnt the same yes were much older now but damn it was a luxury to just pop that disc in and play no updated load times just pure fun. I still game today but there is nothing like going back and playing those good ole classics as you experienced in your childhood now I get to show my son those classics priceless!
That Sonic Mega Collection music you used is hard for me to listen to without getting emotional. That is easily one of the most nostalgic and powerful pieces of game music for me.

Gamecube is the first system I was able to buy with money I made from a summer job when I was 15. The system will always be special to me for many reasons but that is #1.
Seeing the footage of the Sonic collections hit me with a huge wave of nostalgia. The whole video reminded me that the gamecube really is ingrained in my soul.
The GameCube was the superior console for split screen/meet up console. I remember countless hours of the boys and I playing Melee/Double Dash/Mario Party/Wario Ware/Super Monkey ball/StarFox Adventure battles/to 007:NightFire duels. Nothing was better then 5-7 kids gaming / vibing with out a single care in the world.
Now I grow older and we slowly drift apart because of degrees/work/life.... Sometimes I miss those old days and I'm only 24 T.T
The Nostalgia! I dont know how many hours I spent playing city trials in Kirby Air Dash with my cousin, two kids trying to find every secret from the city, the phoenix events, etcetera

My first introduction to the GC was seeing it at a friend’s house. At the time, I thought the N64 was the end-all, be-all and still played it as if it had just released. When I saw what the GameCube was able to do and present, it blew my mind.
It felt like the future. And I wanted in.
I cannot find anyone who brings such heart and soul to their retrospectives and video essays on games, and nothing has come close to this retrospective on the GameCube. Your closing statements has really made me think about the industry as a whole, their past their present and their future and the lack of accessibility to older games. I love your videos very much and you make me feel nostalgic for some games I never even got to play. You make my days with your videos, keep on going, whatever you do now and in the future you are an inspiration, to me, and to others. I hope the future looks bright.
I have no idea how you might tackle a video like this, but perhaps one on the industry as a whole? It would be a hefty project, but just something to think about maybe.
Gamecube is so ridiculously underrated. The console had so many great games on it. I got one for christmas the year it came out. I still remember my bro and I play luigi's mansion and mario kart double dash for what seemed like forever.

This video hits home man. That time when I was a young teen and my gamecube was something special. I loved those games and they left a unique impression on me. I'm a father now and I wish to share that same thing with my kids. I don't have those games anymore, that's why I wish nintendo would bring them online so my next generation can enjoy them the way I did.
Legend of Zelda, Luigi’s Mansion, Mario Kart Double Dash, SSX3, and Sonic Mega Collection all the way to Sonic Riders may I say more; this was in my opinion the best era for video games. There was even a disk that allowed you to play GBA games on the GC as well.

I agree, we really did miss an opportunity with so many GameCube titles. That little purple lunchbox was my absolute favorite console on the whole world, and it lived too shortly. Gauntlet arguably had it's best version on GameCube. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was an absolute unit of a masterpiece. I personally really loved Star Fox Adventures. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle was a really great game and I enjoyed raising Chao. The GameCube was just one of those systems that unless someone dedicated time and resources to it, it would be very difficult to completely replicate and Nintendo knows that for damn sure. Nintendo, if you're listening to all of us fans across the world, Bring Back The GameCube Games Now!
Thank you for the nostalgia. I remember getting my GameCube for Christmas the year it came out. It truly brought me and my brothers together as we’d play it almost everyday together. I also remember playing it at my neighbors house together. Especially super monkey ball and pikmin. I miss the simpler times.
When I got my Gamecube I knew it wasn't the most powerful kid on the block but it had some amazing experiences. Legit replaying Metroid Prime on emulator right now HD textures, mouse/keyboard button prompts, and upscaled to 5k(my monitor is a step under 4k but it still improves the visuals) and damn the game a sight to behold. The game(trilogy version) is about 7.5 gigs with all the HD textures being an extra 16 gigs.

Awesome that the menu theme of the gamecube was calming and feels atmospheric, especially when you learn that the theme is an extremely slow version of the famicom disc system jingle
My favorite part of UA-cam has to be stumbling on a community for a gamecube game. They always give me nostalgia of some random games I played in my childhood on that system. And there's so many good games on the system I've yet to play! It sucks the games either cost so much or are seemingly nowhere to be found.

This was a massive dose of nostalgia injected straight into my veins, and I loved it. I grew up with so many of these games, co-op mode on Mario Cart DD with my older brother, seeing the opening cutscene for Wind Waker for the first time (Late at night, the night we got home from summer camp to find our copy had finally arrived), racing through SA2B and playing with chao, City Trial in Kirby Air Ride, and so many other wonderful experiences. Rogue Leader, Super Mario Sunshine, Star Fox Assault, METROID PRIME (MY GOD), Pikmin, SSB Melee, so many of these games will always hold a special place in my heart. And yes, even Star Fox Adventures. I still don't understand why so many people make fun of this game; it's genuinely fun. Also, Okami got it's start here, right? That game was amazing and deserves so much love!

This video hit me like a sack of bricks as someone else who also grew up on the GameCube. As a kid I didn't realize how poorly it sold(I mean I was an 8 year old with no internet access, ofc I didn't), and when I learned about that as an adult it made me really sad with how many fond memories I have of spending countless hours playing games on that little purple lunchbox with my sisters.
Another thing that makes me sad as you pointed out is the lack of official re-releases for these games, resulting in the secondhand market getting pretty wild, especially recently, which I imagine is only being compounded by the fact that poor overall sales also means there's fewer used copies(and even fewer used copies actually being put up for sale) out there in the market, further driving up prices. Luckily emulation has come a long way, but not everyone has the know how to be able to set that up.
Still, as sad as it is to see some of the downsides, the legacy of the GameCube's library shines brightly, and as someone who did grow up with the system it makes me genuinely happy to see how well its aged even 15 years after its discontinuation.
As someone who had a friend that made me see the light on the Gamecube when it came out, oh boy did I enjoy those years of my life. Glad there is still people out here gushing about this console that deserved way more popularity. Best controller ever too.
Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube were two of my favorite gaming experiences ever. This is such a thoughtfully produced video, with a great deal of wonderful nostalgia throughout, and it’s entirely entertaining. Thank you so much!
