I lived in Northern Virginia for over 20 years. I never considered prospecting in the local creeks. They contain a lot of black sand. The shores of the Potomac River is loaded with great panning spots too. I'll think about it the next time I'm back in VA.
Wish I didn't live in Radford VA sometimes. So darn far to travel to do any prospecting. There are a few historically reported places about 15 to 25 min south of me in Rhiner but I doubt they hold anything now.
My daughter is actually a senior at Radford University and that is a long drive from me lol about 5.5 hours but really you could join our club. It’s probably 2 hours away from you. I drive 2 hours each trip so it’s not to bad I just make it worth the trip and try and plan multiple days. Just something to think about.
@@ancellsadventures Is that the Central Virginia Gold Prospectors club? If so I am planning on joining for '22. Wanna do a lot next year out there and south in N.C. around Uwharrie and over by Marion, NC. Will have a prototype sluicing system to "stress test." Till then spending next 6 months in the gym getting my old self back into shape.
That’s funny I stumbled upon this. I live in Blacksburg and been looking at getting into gold panning but been stumped finding anything close by. There is a creek that had 3 gold mines on it that runs into the little river but basically flows through private property all the way to the little river.
Great video! Man I was hoping you’d dredge the river where you were detecting. How come you didn’t? That claim needs some people to start dredging it lol.
Found gold on a creek bed on my property. It runs off from a mine that about 10 miles up the road. Do they still own the rights to the gold or may I pan it in central Va near buckingham.
Great question. If it’s on your property it’s your gold!! Private land owners also own the mineral rights on their property unless you signed something in your contract when purchasing your property that’s states someone else or a company owns the mineral rights on that property and that you are aware of this fact. I’m sure your good if you own the land. I’d live in that creek!!!
Also while showering I’ve thought about what you said. I will add this, your creek I’m assuming is a small creek like many of them in buckingham. Gold from their mine wouldn’t have traveled 10 miles downstream to your property. I’m not sure if you are speaking about an active mine ( some do still exist) but at any rate gold doesn’t move often. Not of any size anyway. Virginia hasn’t a had flood event big enough to move gold of any size in over 100 years or more. So with that being said I’d say you have a gold deposit much closer than you think. It may be on your property or just upstream. I would start sampling your property working upstream and all the way across your creek in different areas and make notes as to where your best gold came from. Prospecting Geologist on UA-cam has a great video of how to sample pan to find your deposit and Matt lays it out very well and it’s easy to understand you should check him out also. I hope this helps you out! Who knows you may have a piece of virgin ground that no one had ever prospected and may be sitting on a mother load! And please hit that subscribe button if you like what you have seen so far there is much more to come!!
@@ancellsadventures thank you we’ve been trying to figure out what to do with it since we noticed it. It’s a small creek bed coming out of the side of a steep hill.
If you want hit me up on Facebook at Ancell’s adventures so I can try and point you in the right direction on messenger. Gold coming down from a hillside changes things a bit
@@ancellsadventures was just going to ask you about another way to get in touch with you for better questions. I’ll look you up and shot you a message.

I would start knocking on doors and ask for permission to pan and see what they say. Sometimes you get lucky! Good luck
Looks like claim two...

That’s for another day my friend when I go back with both dredges lol!!! But maybe we get together soon and see what we can do!!
what county are you panning in? Im in Lynchburg and would like to give panning a shot.
This is in buckingham county. Look at central Virginia gold prospectors on the web. $100 a year with lots of properties to prospect.
