You’re a legend Gary !! That’s the best explanation ever of gravel bars Those principles work on every river Almost a pennyweight from a gravel bar is great ✨⛏️
Good morning. I have been watching your video’s for 7 or 8 years now. Your presentation and detailed description of what you are looking for and doing, keeps getting better and better!!! You would have made a great school teacher and one the kids would listen too and really learn from. Thank you for great video’s 🌟🌟
THANKS FOR THIS, TWO TOES. I'M AT THE POINT WHERE I'M LEARNING HOW TO WALK UP TO ANY WATERCOURSE I VISIT AND DISCERN EXACTLY WHAT YOU JUST TAUGHT, AS WELL AS KNOWING WHAT KIND OF SPECIFIC ROCK I'M LOOKING AT. THAT TAKES A LONG TIME, AS YOU WELL KNOW. THIS IS GREAT, GREAT INFO FROM YOUR YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. I WATCHED VIDEOS LIKE THIS WHEN I STARTED MANY YEARS AGO, BUT WHEN YOU ARE STARTING, YOU CAN ONLY GRASP THE "SNAPSHOTS" OF THE INFO ABOUT READING THE RIVERS AND LAND. YOU ARE BEDAZZLED BY ALL THAT RIVERBED, AND IT PRETTY MUCH LOOKS THE SAME ALL OVER TO YOUR UNTRAINED EYE. THANKS FOR THE CLASS IN "HERE'S HOW YOU DO IT".
That was an excellent video Gary the explanations were outstanding and easy to comprehend. Could the reason the bedrock was barren be that that’s where the river used to run constantly and it was exposed most of the time like the piece in the river and the big flood built up so much of a gravel bar that it forced the river over 20-30 feet permanently? Bummer on less than 2 g but I agree you did well for what you had to deal with and I for one appreciate you breaking your 2 g rut to show us such great information on gravel bars. So thanks for sharing. See you on the next one.👍🏼👊🏼
That area Gary was working has been hit hard over the years. I won’t say where, but I have a good idea where he was. Still, you can find some nice gold there to this day. The old timers never got it all. Good gold hunting! Take care.
I’ve got a little black smithing operation coming up and I’ve been brainstorming what to make. Gold and agate picking tools!!!!!! Specialized tools picking!! Thanks for the inspiration.
Really enjoyed watching this. Really like that you share your experiences with us, so we can put more shiny in the pan. Morning brother and hope you have a wonderful day Sir 🫡
Very good explanation and demonstration of the material you are working with . That gold looks very chunky and jagged. I'd bet the source isn't too far away because it's not yet been beaten and tumbled overly smooth and flat. Jeff Williams made a video on hydrodynamics years ago using a giant model of a river with all the major features one would find . He ran water through it and dropped black sands and gold into the water to show where gold drops out and how gravel bars form . It's a very good watch and can usually teach even the most experienced prospectors a little something.
You reminded me of an idea I thought of dredging in No. CA in the 80s , find a very good bottom / center of river / creek --- that has good gold in past . Then clear out that area [ if needed , put something to block water flow so that you could build ] what call a seasonal sluice box , probably out of steel . Then remove water flow block that was needed to work in that area and come back maybe each fall / lowest water flow and or after any flood looking for that YELLOW STUFF ;) Thanks again Hoping to see dredging to come back ???
Hey Gary, apparently UA-cam is unsubscribing people from random channels, so you may want to remind your viewers to double check that they’re still subscribed to your channel! I clicked the video and saw I got unsubscribed at some point, who knows how long ago that happened? Great education as always, thanks and keep it up!
The gravel bar on the highway side of the river at Petey’s Place has probably been pounded as hard as any spot on that river. I’m throwing down the gauntlet. Let’s see you pull a gram with pan out of that one. P.S. Looks like you got first gold for the sweet taste of victory
A great video Gary, very informative 👏 👍. I have taken your approach a few times. I try to imagine the creek/river in flood. I have found some decent deposits. I thank you as you do some of the simplistic terms for discribing to people. Thanks again for such a great Video! Cheers Gary & sidekick Jeff! Regards Andy and Smudge Poverty Prospecting Australia 🇦🇺
Hello sir, good advice, thanks, I'll try pay more attention to the ground, understand theorie , don't really pay attention to it, Wil try to do so now. 😊, Happy Holidays,
Always a good watch for a day I can’t get out. I’ve got a bar I’ve wanted to hit real bad but it lacks good water flow. Hoping I can slowly pick at it over the years 🤣
That was a Super Dooper Tutorial of information Gary , a great insight as to what you look for on the river . The knowledge never gets old , it's just up to us dummies to take notice and utilize that knowledge and stop just hoping for the best out there . Top show Champion 👍👍 Take care and you and Jeff and all your family have a Wonderful Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year 👌👍 Cheers Ned ✌
Very interesting and deffinatly be testing out that on a local gravel bar that's been bugging me as been struggling to find the accumulation spots..there's fine gold all over it but there's got to be a sweet spot
Hi, this is the 1st time I have watched you. I stumbled upon your channel. Very interesting stuff. I live in Arkansas. I have heard talks of gold being here but have you ever heard anything or where I might go play to find some gold? 😅Thanks.
Great idea for another video! Loved your statement "or at least, that's my theory". Did you get a new computer? Looks like it with another monitor and keyboard.
I might have here in Dallas Texas is there's only tiny almost microscopic gold here no matter where you look and yes I found a tiny bit but I found a hell of a lot more in the kilo of soil I ordered from Australia
its interesting that there was no flood in 2021 or 22 when we had all the crazy rain? some of the places we have been in the last couple of years had water at 10 or 12 feet above the river level!
Hey Gary, i love your channel brother. I recently purchased your crevice tools , Huntley tool, and screens kit. Love em! I have a question thought, what do you put those crevice tools in so they don't cut your pack? Im currently working on my own channel. Thanks for the info/ inspiration.
Yes, but it will be down too deep for a day panning. I plan on heading back with the highbanker and working a bit at the head of the gravel bar - that is if the rain doesn't stop me.
@ got one with five claws from local horse shoer. Never saw a one use so much coke while heating iron, he said I would never be able to break it EVER . Do you have any relation in Washington
I do better in the hardpack here in Colorado. Must have something to do with how the last ice age deposited it. Its all glacial gold too. I dont get bedrock very often but lots of clays and hardpack.
@TwoToes 🤣yes. We had sort of the same thing here in NC. In the teens Friday and Saturday 60's and raining now. Plus had to stop prospecting on my property so I wouldn't disturb my neighbors' deer hunting.😢

1.2 grams is fantastic for that hard hit location. Excellent sleuthing and disciplined digging. Thanks Gary!

I think there are a couple of reasons. Easy access, been worked a lot, and bedrock is too smooth, no place for the gold to get out of the flow.
That area Gary was working has been hit hard over the years. I won’t say where, but I have a good idea where he was. Still, you can find some nice gold there to this day. The old timers never got it all.

Make sure you use a good hard metal, dragging them on the rocks wears them out fast.

Where you at? My guess is Milsap bar. Do you ever inspect the real high benches? Would like to hear about those.
I dredged Milsap Bar in the early 70's. Found a few nice nuggets. With all the rain the high benches are the place to go the next few months.
Lota gold there to find it that easy and shallow imagine whats on the bottom below the big boulders :)
Wouldn't the big gold be at the head of the bar, where the big boulders are?
Yes, but it will be down too deep for a day panning. I plan on heading back with the highbanker and working a bit at the head of the gravel bar - that is if the rain doesn't stop me.
