Air Oil Separator AOS on 986 Boxster starting to fail?

- Recently I have noticed a little bit more white smoke on cold starts than what I would consider to be “normal” on my Boxster. This is accompanied by the strong smell of oil.
The last record I have of the AOS being replaced was 12yrs/40k miles ago, so it is likely time to replace it. I am considering the OEM Porsche part and the Ultimate AOS at this time.
They last till 70-75,000 miles.
Just change it anyway, if your near that mileage. You could clear the hydraulic lifters. By doing 4-5,000rpm for 2 mins or so on a motor way. Or just drive like me. And keep it all spinnint 3500-4500rpm. It’s easier on the IMS bearing. Less lugging 2000-3000rpm unloads the stress on the bearings.
Thanks, I appreciate the comments! I was thinking the same thing that it is ok, but I still may change it out as preventative maintenance. It would exhibit that little bit of smoke on start-up during the winter months when I was only driving it every two weeks. Now that I am taking it out more frequently, I have no issues.
I couldn't agree with you more on engine loads and keeping the RPMs in that band. Gas is relatively cheap compared to a new motor and driving is much more enjoyable without lugging a motor!
That looks okay to me.
