Wow, I’m so glad I found this video. You solved my problem! This is one of the best, clearly stated, repair videos I’ve ever seen.
@bikedad57 Thank you!
Great video. I have the same issue on a 2013 Jetta 2.0. Thought I'd search for a video before I go spend a few hundred at a mechanic. Very well explained, thank you for saving me money!
@chriscini9369 My Pleasure!
Me too i have the same problem
Dude you rock! Almost bought a new climate control module but thought to go and see if anyone had the same issue. Love how plainly you described the problem, diagnoses and fix! I even got to break out the old test light for this one! Thank you!!👍
@anthonyburns1591 My Pleasure!
Thank you!! I was able to change mine out without being charged up by the dealership.

My 2013 Jetta had the exact same problem! I replaced the resistor and it solved the problem! Thanks for the help, appreciate it! ❤

Good repair and diagnostic video man straight to the point and didn't forget to mention to check for voltage before you go and replace the resistor that's a good idea
@eliangonzalezandthecoastgu2321 Thank you!
God bless you my bro I just fixed my vw’s for $43 both items I needed to replace where on Amazon 🙏
@AH-fr2mp My Pleasure! Thanks
Hi wanted to say THANK YOU ! You have no idea how much you helped me !!!! My AC works now.
@jarapovic My Pleasure!
My AC is fucked too. Was wondering if this would help. I can only get air on the highest setting. The AC blows hot air after a few mins.
@@ebogar42 just try it because it def worked. It’s like $15 with shipping so it’s def worth the try. Also I’m not an expert but I enjoy DIYing and was able to get this done in like thirty minutes. The only thing I never did was open the glove box but if you get on the ground you’re going to be able to see all the screws. I ordered this kit online that has different screw beads that you can try.
Awesome video man! Love seeing someone breaking down each and every step, keep it up man!
Asmodeus Thank you!
Bravo! I had the identical problem on my 2010. Thank you. Fixed it myself and saved $$$$$$.

I have a 2008 VW Jetta and I had the same issue tonight I found your video and found the resister and the once silver colored metal is very brown in some spots. I think thatt must be by burnt. I am odering the part tomorrow and I hope I am part of the 99%! Thank you, it was well explained and got me this far!

I wish I had found your video sooner before I spent $400 only to have the blower fail 2 days later. So my vehicle had the same issue. It only worked in 4th setting. Repair man changed the A/C compressor control valve. Picked vehicle up, A/C was cold again but realized later still only worked on 4th setting. 2 days later even on the 4th setting it isn’t blowing. I can hear some rumblings, but then stops. I’m thinking maybe I should change the resister and blower motor. What do you all think? Great video and informative. Thanks.
When I gently bang under dash it starts to rumble, but doesn’t start. It’s a 2012 VW Jetta.
@scottamaral5073 yes! check out your blower motor resistor!
Thank you so much! This is exactly my problem.
@ronnabowers6884 My Pleasure!
Thanks for the share, my issue is slightly different, it blows only on 4 as well but on side and below vents not in the middle ones on a Passat B6.
@joblux My Pleasure! it sounds like you have a mode door issue!

I have a multimeter but not a voltage tester like yours. If I pull the connector, can I just test via the metal sockets in the cable connector, or does the resister need to be in the circuit? Can I use one of the sockets as my reference for one probe and look at the other 3 relative to it or do I need to grab a reference somewhere else? If so, what is a good reference nearby or do I need a cable back to the battery?
This was a great video! Very clear. The only question I have is, do you need to do anything to figure out why the resistor failed to keep from putting in a new one that then just dies? Like, do you need to pull the blower itself and inspect it in some way? Thanks!
Oh yeah....why inspect the cabin filter? Just because you're in there and might as well?
@ef2b My Pleasure!
Very well explained and very helpful! Good job!
Tiankata G Thank you!!
Thanks for the video! Helped me out a ton. My one suggestion is you should be more silly. You were very specific and detail oriented in your entire troubleshooting process, but you’ve always gotta be a little bit goofy about everything. Other than that, awesome video.

Aww yea!! Amazingly well detailed video my guy 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. So I have a 2013, 2.0 Jetta with the exact same problem, just started today and I bet this is the fix. Now This may be somewhere in the description or comments section and I just missed it, but is there anywhere other than the dealership to procure the replacement part? I want to make sure I order the right one but dont want to go through my local vw dealership as I’ve had bad experiences with them. Let me know and thanks again 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Thank you - I had this happen tonight on my MK6 2013 Jetta and I believe I just need to get the right part number now and order it and I'll replace myself. I pulled mine out to look at it and it does appear bad. I don't have a tester but am pretty confident it is the resistor.
Is there a way to find the VW part number? I found what appears to be correct on Autozone but looks like it is the whole unit and I just need the resistor not the wiring cables.
Will update this once I get it swapped out!
krisrk ok!! I think I showed the Part number in the video!! call your local VW Dealer and get the part number from them!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair I found it and am getting it delivered 9/24 tomorrow. Once I do the swap I'll update. Thaks for making this so simple!!!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair it worked and my problem is now fixed, have already followed your channel. You’re awesome!!! $18 bucks I really am curious how much the dealership would have charged. I’m sure a lot more than doing it myself. Thanks for your helpfulness and great video!!!

I have this issue along with a parasitic draw problem. You think this might also be a result of a bad resistor ?
@Valid_Videos a bad resistor can cause the blower to stay on all the time which can kill the battery over night!

Would a bad resister make my AC not work properly and blow hot air after a few mins? My car also only works on the highest setting for the fan.
@ericbogar9665 No! a defective resistor would not affect the performance of the AC System!

What happens if blower goes on intermittent at all levels. Does vw have blower motor issues. I had the same problem in my previous one.
@CoachMatt49 your issue might be the resistor

Hello! I have a question. Is this compartment behind the glovebox area ? Also, should I disconnect my battery when I do this ? Finally, what is the screwdriver for this type of screw called ?
@jarapovic you don't have to disconnect the battery to replace the blower resister, you need a torx bit to remove the resistor
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair thank you !!!!
Thanks for your help

Would a bad resistor not make the ac turn on at all?
@dudemylo7240 No!
Hi. I had this problem but when i put in the new resistor..all speeds worked only once and then smoke blew out of my ac vents then went back to same problem again (with only fan working on highest setting). It’s like the resistor blew i think. What could be the problem in this case?
@iskooobydoo you might have a shorted blower motor, install a new resistor then disconnect the blower motor and turn the fan on to see if the resistor is not gonna burn, if it doesn't while the blower motor is disconnected then the problem is the blower motor!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair hey thanks for the tip. Question, would a shorted blower motor also affect the Compressor/RCV not engaging? Because the AC is actually not getting cold also. Its like the compressor solenoid is not engaging.
Thank you!!
@buzwa2k My Pleasure!
Does this still apply for the 2016 model?
@JaredMadds yes!
I replaced the blower motor resistor and the AC works great on all setting now BUT there’s a rattling sound coming from the compartment where I replaced the part. It only rattles when the AC is on I don’t know what to do
Cameron Andrew Make sure nothing fell in the blower motor housing, like a piece of paper or a pen!! I've seen stuff from the Glove Box fall in the blower housing!
What is the part number?
@Christian.dewetxLL you can get it from your local VW Dealer!
Thank you

If I don't have a test light would a multimeter work?
Weed Will Rock You Yes! but a multimeter doesn't load the circuit

@tryEP1Ctiedye you can get this Resistor from your local chevy Dealer
I have the same problem , it works at any level for beginning but after cruised for an hour or so , suddenly level 1-3 stops working but level4 still working. Any idea why ?
Iwan Atmadjaja your resistor is probably failing! test it and see what happens!

Ok
What do s the part number of the resistor????
@user-ns7ct7su4v I don't remember the part number of this resistor, you can get it from your local VW Dealer!
VW Service center charged me $178 to diagnose this problem and said it’ll cost about $835 for parts and workmanship. I told them not to worry, bought the parts myself for less than $70 and it took all of 2 minutes to replace. These guys are scammers.
@timeyinolley8966 I'm glad to hear that the video was helpful
do you have the part number so i can buy one?
@isabellagggaming5891 I don't remember the part number!
What if I changed that but my a/c still isn’t blowing?
@stephenjohnson2651 what do you mean by AC not working, there is no Air Coming out of the vents!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair I purchased a new blower motor fan and blower motor resistor but my a/c still only blows on full speed.
What is a reliable site for VW Jetta parts in Canada/US?
Myuren J Check out Rock Auto!
Hello friends my car has the same fault 👍
@kabiralikhani5787 check out this item, it might be your problem!
Well done :)
Tirne Resen Thank you!!
Blower not working on any setting now after only working on highest setting for long time. Fuse good. Going to check resistor next.
Patrick Griffin it sounds like your problem is a bad resistor!
I think the blower motor had been running with a bad resistor for a long enough time, that it too went bad. After putting in the new resistor, I tested at the connector to the motor and am getting good voltage and ground. I will be putting in the new motor tomorrow after it gets delivered.
Turns out, that was it! Both resistor and blower motor. Now I know. When fan works on only highest setting, change resistor before it has an effect on the motor.
Why is this issue so prevalent with VWs? I’ve never heard of this happening with any other brand
@4spooky8u it's how the resistor is mounted, it doesn't get cooled a lot!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair yeah when I replaced mine the old one was corroded to all hell.
@@4spooky8u ah ok!
I install new blower motor and resistor but still not blowing anything..
