- Does you heat and air conditioning only work on high? Replace your blower motor resistor and it should work as normal! I go through all the steps required to replace a blower motor resistor in a MK5 Volkswagen Golf, Jetta, GTI, Passat, R32, Rabbit. There are no required tools and the part is quite easy to get to.

I don't do cars. I need men to do all things cars for me. But I switched out my own resistor with the help of this video. I could not believe how easy it was. Some other videos showed taking the resistor out before disconnecting the wiring harness, but that didn't work for me. I couldn't get the harness off after removing the resistor. Your video showed disconnecting the harness first, and that was much easier for someone who is not mechanically inclined (and doesn't have very strong fingers).

I had the same problem too. I go fast, tune the turbo knob the first stages, nothing, and then 4th...all of the turbo. Finally people are starting to address turbo blower lag.

For thoses interested, the part that protrudes at the very end of the "resistor" is a thermal fuse. AUPO BF216 in my case. It blows when temperature exceeds 216°C.

Will the resistor be the replacement part if the fan is not running on any of the 4 settings? Also my fan is cycling when the car is not even running. Any thoughts?

Hi there. My blower goes on for about 1-2min and then stops for about 2min and makes a humming noise. Then comes on again for 1-2min and do the same. Do you think it's the resistor or the blower to be replaced? Thank you

Does it matter on the specific make and model of the car
It will be very similar for most Volkswagen products
Any idea why the blower resistor that I put on my mk5 (aftermarket one) overheat and smell like burn in the car when I turn the ac on?
It might just be breaking in, if not if it were a cheap part I’d get a nicer one
Your blower motor may be turning too hard. The bearings dry out and corrode or debris could somehow be blocking free turning of the fan. Lubrication of the bearings is possible, but motor replacement may be a more permanent solution.

I have a 2008 Mk5 R32 US and looks different under the dash. Do you know the location of the resistor for R32 by chance? Not the same as the video
My shop quoted me a ridiculous price on this but also insisted that if I didn't replace the fan at the same time the new resistor would end up going again. Any thoughts on that?
I’m not sure if it’s guaranteed to go out again, but mine did. It lasted a few months before failing though so I’m not sure if it needed the fan replaced or if it was just a cheap resister I bought

In my case, blower blows cold air on all speeds but only 4 gives heat. MK7, is this the same problem you demonstrated here?

Anyone have a 2008 vw passat 3.6L? I cant locate the resistor. So far only finding youtube videos thag give year ranges but the layout is totally different
It is going to be my third one today. Either those Chinese resistors are not good or my blower motor pulls too many amps.
I have a problem with my Golf MK6, blower works perfectly on all speeds except when I switch to the windshield direction, blower works but no air coming out. In all other directions, legs, face works great. Is it possible that something inside is stuck or can be caused by a bad blower switch resistor? Thanks for your help and advice!
Either the motor has a dead spot on the contacts so its losing power before it gets closed to the windshield position, a gear tooth broke or the flap is jammed up. Normally the contacts are just worn out so it needs to be replaced. Its called an actuator motor. I know this is a late response but better late than never! Who knows you might still have it or it helps someone else
My ac fuse keep broken? Why is that?
I have a much bigger issue. The 40 amp fuse that runs the blower motor gets so hot it melts
Why does this resistor blow? It might help to know the cause so you don’t have to constantly replace it.
Frequently it's just old age after many many cycles
