- Recorded on 3/4" U-matic tape that was found in a dumpster from a friend of a friend.
Vocals are out of phase on the left and right channel, so it may seem for some mobile or mono devices that there are no vocals, try to listen in stereo or with stereo headphones.

They are actually one of the greatest and most underrated rock and roll bands. They are more than just another punk rock band. Great footage! Lucky is the Keith Moon of punk drummers...
That's what I always say. Sure you can lump them in with hardcore or whatever but to me they have more in common with early Who or Kinks than Minor Threat or whoever. And Keith Morris is one of the best frontmen ever.
I agree with Brandon, but aside from live and Group Sex , they were never close to being a top 10 after the rhythm section changed. After Golden Shower they were spotty. They were armed with one of the best drummers to pick up a pair of sticks. Lehrer was a machine. When I got into them, I swore it was sped up tape...but just watch him. I honestly think VI and the 90's album were better than Wonderful and Streets. Had a dream I saw them, but never did. If you watch Lucky during Red Tape it might be faster than the record. There are Midwestern bands like Zero Boys early Huskers, Die Kreuzen, Really Red who were more prolific and certainly more overlooked than the Jerks. They were on top here, though. This is better footage than Decline. Lucky is better than Moon...Moon didn't keep time or use a snare. Check out Betzger from Jerry's Kids. Unreal drummer and a really underrated album/band. Is This My World is a top 10 us hardcore punk lp...I discovered it in my 40s...too bad they only thought to bring one mic. Or Hetson is way to loud. Or Keith is too fucked up to sing. He's trying. Guess the sound person blew it. Too bad, this is great. This looks and sounds great for 1981.
@@brandonhendrix7223 they werent hardcore, neither were Adolescents, Angry Samoans, Really Red...even early DK's (they werent good at hardcore...boring, but totally unique and great before they followed the heard,) same with Misfits midwestern bands like Zero Boys, Toxic Reasons--skate punk bands like JFA, Faction, Big Boys, blah blah blah
@@DaveAnchovies indeed. In fact, in hindsight, the Adolescents come off closer to a less pop Buzzcocks (an admitted influence), the Samoans (a personal favorite) have always maintained they're basically an updated 60s garage rock band (I'd say that applies to the early CJs too). Most of these bands were lumped into hardcore simply because of the era they belonged to.
@@brandonhendrix7223 yeah. The Adolescents seemed to hit the spot (like the Samoans or Zero Boys) where it was not quite violent or macho, it had hooks but not necessarily "nice"
Lucky....WOW!! top notch drumming.
Dude had jazz training and you can certainly tell!
Need for speed
so did george Hurley of Minutemen. and Betzger of Jerrys Kids, even Bill V. from Samoans. People go gah gah over Biscuits, Grohl (yuck)...but these guys stand up to any "rock" drummer, usually making more out of crappier and smaller kits, playing live without monitors. Lucky is insane to watch. Theres a weird-punk from Detroit these days, best drummer Ive ever seen live. cool fuckin band too. Before, they were a more modernized Dead Boys-y Clone Defects. not weird, but when you thought punk was dead in the late 90s early 00s, they were playing clubs while being ignored.
@@DaveAnchoviesyou lost all credibility talking shit about biscuits and grohl
ts nice seein betzger someone throwing his name around .chuck biscuits, betzger ,Bob furapples ( F.U.'s) , Bill stevenson,George hurley,Reed mullin(C.O.C.), steve "thee slayer hippie " Hanford ( poison idea), and joey Castillo (wasted youth) , Felix griffin (D.R.I.),, D.H peligro (dead kennedys ) , and Al schvitz (M.D.C.) are all fucking powerhouses

I saw a few CJs shows with Earl Liberty/ Chuck Biscuits and that was reeeeeal close to this kinda awesome
I'd give almost anything to be able to go back in time and see one of those shows when both Chuck and Earl were in the lineup
Sweetness, an old show with the original lineup gets the blood moving. Lucky is a madman on the skins!
I really appreciate the share.
Great stuff...such a cool band. RIP Roger Rogerson.
Also the cramps played this show too
Seeing them tonight in Arcata. Been waiting 38 years!
I saw them last night at the electric ballroom in Camden. The crowd were moshing hard. The band were fiercely fast and sounded amazing
I was at the front,it was superb!.
Pretty incredible quality considering the age. Amazing find, thank you for posting.
Fabulous! I think they got through their whole catalog in under 25 minutes! Seriously, what gems that were unearthed in this now legendary dumpster! Thank you so much for posting them.
truly amazing. greg breaks a guitar string twice yet the whole set is still under 30 mins!! lucky is incredible. classic era-their absolute best
I've been a fan for 38 years and I just now found this footage. Thanks to whoever filmed this, and checkout my videos of Circle Jerks in San Diego.
I just checked my old journal and I was there! I went to see The Cramps, and the Circle Jerks opened. Seemed like an odd pairing. I wasn't familiar with the Circle Jerks at the time, but I can still remember being impressed by the drummer's endurance!
Que bien se lo pasaban el siglo pasado sin necesidad de teléfonos moviles , los Jerks en su mejor momento
WHY WAS THE BEST CLASSIC CIRCLE JERKS FOOTAGE FOUND BEHIND A DUMPSTER
saw them in Orlando 1987, one the greatest, tight and excellent sound a real band@!!
Roger's bass is fuckin gnarly sounding and damn Greg!!! Downstroking that SG to hell and back. Rad
This show is incredible!
Lucky shredding!! Great piece of history!
I cant believe how GREAT this is!!!
The whole band- so tight and absolutely killing it!!
Prime time Jerks. .
Lucky was an animal, incredible.
They always were a must see back in 80 -83 in LA. Seem them probably 50 times back then.
Circle Jerks were lucky enough to have two of the greatest drummers…pun intended.
Thank you!
thank you man, finally some good audio and some decent video quality footage of this band, i didn't even know Keith was able to sing that good
OG Circle Jerks, absolute legends!
Brilliant, what an atmosphere! Thanks for posting! 👏👏👏
Awesome sound and performance. Thanks for posting this. Band fucking on point here! And all respect to the current lineup with Joey C but Lucky Fucking Lehrer on Wasted and I Just Want Some Skank. Cannot be beaten.
Thanks for sharing with us. 👍🏻
This made my day. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for posting this! Circle Jerks....one of my all time favorite bands!
Wow. This is a great performance. Thanks for posting
Amazing live band, very few bands sound just like their albums. Lucky especially is always on point on the drums.
Hardest working drummer ever and then the best front man in rock history
Roger Rogerson on bass. RIP.
Roger’s dead?
@@susragejr477 Yeah he died a long time ago. In the mid-90s I believe.
@@paulosicne8498 I have not seen any sources about that do you have any?
American Punk bassist, born 3 January 1955 and died from a drug overdose 8 August 1996
The video quality for 1981 is crazy
My first thought, once I got over how awesome this is: these guys had to be hot wearing long-sleeved shirts in late June.
Top tier footage
thanks for upload
lucky is a fucking machine
I get to see them on Saturday!!
What a great find.
I only went to the Peppermint Lounge once, it was a tiny place, I saw Johnny Thunders and he was damn good, but this show looks pretty great too
AWESOME Thanks for posting!
Awesome
i was 12 when i first saw them and i saw them alot of times after
This is amazing! Amazing how good the quality is and I love hearing the shit talking in the crowd. What an awesome recording. Such an great band on every level. So many downstrokes!!! The definition of punk rock in my opinion. Sloppy, cynical, fast, slightly obnoxious, but smart.
Thanks for this
Old gold.
what's clear here, that NY scene is still pogoing mid-1981, so a little late to the slamming game(and moshing is 3 years away)
Yeah. We had a pit in LA in 81
Lucky is a machine.
Hot damn!
The video is so good I would mistake this for 2007 or 2009.
The fuzziest bass I've ever heard.
YES!!!!!!!!
WOW
Lucky....😱😱😱
Fucking Lucky has gotta be in the conversation about great drummers, not just as a hc drummer
Upload hella appreciated !
Subbed
If this show was with the Cramps it would make sense their using their Fender amps
Wonder who else was on the bill?
I have a two camera shoot from Nov. 83. I have been trying to get someone to pay attention. I don't want to post without the bands ok...
just do it...if they want it down, youll know
@@DaveAnchovies I have been in contact with the band and management. I hopeful that we can release the full concert by middle or end of 2022?
Fuckin aye this is the real deal stuff.
I can't hear the vocals. I remember them being better.
The file details mention that the sound is out of phase, try with a true stereo system or headphones
You need a new soundbar or phone
Lucky is a beast
yo wheres dat new footage ?
Are we ever going to get the higher quality footage ?
People are pogoing than slamming
NY East Coast audience. Slamming was West Coast
@@meeces13 we started slamming a few months later. Ny was definitely late to the party
@@deragon59 but NY and Boston ended becoming the hardest slammers, west coast began to decline '83 onwards.
Read Keith Morris's autobiography. It's perfect.
Any chance I could get a download of the actual DVD? Best CJ footage I’ve seen in decades.
Fuggin Lucky Lehrer...Damn
Incredible stamina from Lucky based on how hard he appears to be hitting at that speed. Also this sounds great aside from the vox being out.
circle jerks as an instrumental band !
3:41 HOLY SHIT THE SKANK MAN WAS FUCKING REAL?!?!?!
Who the fuck would have the nerve to toss this in a dumpster
Awesome .. Is there a better quality video ?? Low Resolution here ... KILLER Sound ;-)
Coming!
@@hausofwheat pls let us know !
@@hausofwheat I watch this vid everyday we need higher quality
The Cramps headlined this show......
Did this tape have The Cramps’ set too??
No, it had a DOA show (posted) and Even Worse
You all sure that this isn't the late, great, Charlie Quintana on drums?
Here's Keith responding to my posting another live film from the June 1981 East Coast Tour and, asking how Charlie came on board...
"Charlie played our 1st East Coast tour. Lucky got in a fight 2 nights before we were going to leave. He told the 3 of us we're not playing those shows and I said "Fuck that!". I called Charlie immediately after Lucky tried to make a major decision for us. I wasn't having that and Mr. Quintana was already familiar with our songs. We practiced for 4 hours and flew to NY the next morning............ "

100% lucky. 100%.
Charlie did irving.
@@johnnymup Keith should know...no?
If you're doubting whether thats lucky in the above video, it is him.
Lucky is a fucking animal
RIPPIN!
No vocals
Don't listen with mono. For some reason the left and right cancel out the vocals
i couldnt hear em on my phone...on my desktop, sound clear. i cant stop watching Lucky, anywhere. Nothing underrated about them, besides Group Sex, maybe a bit overrated. Angry Samoans second lp is a perfect example of punk rock in the 80's US and were blackballed...they offended the wrong people and were outcasts. Whats more punk rock than that? They are more appreciated now. But not in the history books, where they barely, if are even, mentioned
Nascent stage-diving/mosh-pitting longing to make itself known.
yea this great bummer about greg tunning uses lucky and roger rock
Just another band from the Golden State.
Where are the vocals?
Try listening on a laptop or desktop. I've noticed the vocals somehow cancel out on mobile
Use headphones
La style running in circles is the best punk dance.so much better than uk pogo or nyc fat guy kung fu
LUCKY IS GOD
why have the dislike button? we're all that gay that we can't be disliked?
[Chorus]
I was so wasted
I was so wasted
[Verse 1]
I was a hippie
I was a burnout
I was a dropout
You know I was out of my head
And I was a surfer
I had a skateboard
I was so happy, man
You know I lived on the strand
[Chorus]
I was so wasted, I was wasted
I was so wasted, I was wasted
[Verse 2]
I was so fucked up
I was so screwed up
I was so jacked up
Couldn't get any higher than that
And I was so pilled up
I was so nebbed out
I was so jacked up
I was out of my head
I've seen em a few times in mid 80's I seen em in 90's I seen Off as well great band.not a fan of singer did some horrible stuff to a girl on stage at Sundance in mid 80's
Keith was angry
