It was nerve wrecking to cut the ribbon, but SO THANKFUL it worked!!! The display on my 2017 Mazda 6 looks a little different than yours. There are WAY more screws (~4 big ones & 6 small ones) to disassemble to gain access to the ribbon, plus there isn't a white bar connected to the ribbon. Absolute legend, worked perfectly. Our Mazda 3 also "ghosted" when driving as well. I thought the control module in the console was the issue, Mazda wanted $1100 for a replacement which would have done nothing, I would then have had to buy a screen. $2000 all up, so many thanks.

That's good info about the bolt thread. Thank you. I have a video on the way showing how to replace the touchscreen digitizer if you want to regain functionality of the touchscreen.
@@radieyevanov Thanks! To be honest, the only thing I ever found the touch screen useful for was entering addresses, but I haven't used the navigation system in years. Thank you so much for this video. My daughter’s 2016 Mazda CX5 Touring was having all sorts of issues with random button presses. We updated the firmware, did the Car Play upgrade and updated the Nav SD card hoping all that would fix stuff, but while it improved a little, the ghost, as we called it, still persisted. It wasn’t until I stumbled upon your video and some others discussing disabling the touch screen did everything resolve. While the 2016 CX5 Touring has a slightly different looking head unit, it’s still very similar to what you show here. The ribbon is at the bottom of the display and just needs to be unplugged/detached. I’m not a very techie person and found this a do-able project (especially after just having done the Car Play upgrade). Just a little bravery that it will all come back together and your video was all that was needed. A big thank you from my daughter and me for putting this together. All the best!
Your video is a life saver, ive been dealing with this problem for over a year now. I always thought it was the buttons in the center hub(almost smashed them to pieces multiple times now). The dealership ship never wanted to fix it.
Thanks for the post. Tried this on my 2017 CX-5. Was able to do it, but not without a couple of adjustments. In the 2017 CX-5 there is a small plastic piece blocking access to the “ribbon” you have to disconnect. Since it was either make this work or give $800 dollars to dealership for a new unit, we decided to cut off that plastic piece with a dremel tool. Success!! There were also a couple of additional bolts to remove, but those were no big deal. Couldn’t have done it without this video!

Pleased to report that this worked like a charm for my 2017 Mazda 6! The method for the 2017 is definitely a little more complicated and requires more disassembling. I also had to disconnect the plug for the start button which was quite unnerving. In order to access the ribbon, you have to open upon the screen entirely as in, remove the front plastic portion from the back plastic panel. At that point, the correct ribbon lines up with the plugs as shown in the video. It was easy to reassemble. I have exorcised my ghost!

Thank you so much for this video, my partner and I just fixed my infotainment system on my 2014 Mazda 3 saving hundreds of pounds, I am extremely grateful as it was driving me mad 🤣🥰
Thank you for the video! The fix is fast and easy. Two things to help those trying this themselves: 1: The decorative bezel clips are springs, they do not need to be depressed. Simply pry out the bezel 2: The screen ribbon cable is very hard to see with the screen assembled. The screen can be easily disassembled by removing the four small screws and separating the plastic frame from the base. Then pull the white ribbon cable keeper back towards the edge of the circuit board and pull the cable out of the connector.
Honestly, I actually forgot my 2017 was even a touchscreen and was thinking the problem was in one of the switches lol. Thanks for taking the time to share this
Haha that's how I was too cuz I never use the touchscreen but figured out it had to do with it as it would only happen when the car was stopped or coming to a stop with slow speed
Thanks for the instructions! This ghost clicking issue was driving me crazy! (Mazda knew it but refused to recall just extended the warranty to 7 years which mine is denied by dealer, they said the sales had retired blah blah blah just do want to honour it anyway so I DIY...) Just few tips to add to those got the same problem 1. there are 4 more screws on the back and bottom, remove them and with a bit of force you can separate the plastic cover from the display unit. Make the gap wide open 2. use the tiny flat head screwdriver to pull the white part outward, it will release the cable easily 3. be careful when you're loosing and tighten that main screw at 4:43, you don't want to drop it! Trust me! Hope this help.
Outstanding video! Totally explained and easily solved our issue with the "ghosting." The dealership informed us that we were 5 months past the warrantee and wanted 1,100 dollars for a full replacement. We had no idea this would happen til it did, they didn't care. We performed the fix you demonstrated, now it's completely fixed! You just saved me 1,100 dollars.
You are the man! Thanks for sharing this info. Like others, I thought my issue was the control knob. I had to go a step further and seperate my screen to get to the ribbon(2016 Mazda3) which was only 4 small screws. I like my car again:)
Absolute lifesaver, even 14 years later. This process was pretty much identical with the 2018 Mazda 3, just requiring the removal of ones more bracket before accessing the ribbon connection.
Thanks so much for this video! I am in the UK and my Mazda 3 is a 65 plate and this has been happening for months! We assumed it was dust or crumps within the console so we will try this. The amount of times calls have been made 🤦🏼♀️😆 thanks again 👍🏻

Just called Mazda dealer. No luck with warranty for my 2015 Mazda 3 😞. Might ask my brother to perform this for me since I suck at fixing things 😀. Thanks for the video
Good luck! It's just the bad touchscreens. Not Mazda's fault as they don't actually make the touchscreens but they have learned and switched them out on the newer ones.
This issue drove me insane to the point I smashed my control knobs in, in a fit of rage 😂. Now I have ghosting and broken knobs. Wish I found this video sooner lol
Hi everyone. This seems like a perfectly useful fix if you can't get satisfaction through Mazda. However, as one comment below mentioned an extension of the warranty for this issue, I searched for such and found that it had indeed been extended to 7 years from the make of the car (at least in the U.S.). I can't seem to attach the downloaded bulletin here, but if you Google search: "2104-2016 Mazda3 - Mazda Connect Touch Screen Concern Warranty Extension Program - Special Service Program (SSP) B6" it will take you straight to the page where you can find the bulletin to download as a PDF. It explains which Mazda3's will qualify for the service (by VIN, etc), and how to go about getting the service approved. I wound up printing it out, went to the local dealer and explained that I had the Mazda3 "Ghost Touch" issues going on and mentioned the warranty extension bulletin, and they made an appointment for me on the spot. It seems to have cleared things up perfectly after they changed out the screen!
Im incredibly uncomfortable pulling my dash apart 😢. Ill have to deal for now, but happy a fix exists! Right now, shuffle gets pressed constantly. I'll revisit this if it gets worse.
It's either you pulling it or someone else when the time comes. First time doing anything like this is always nerve racking. Maybe it's just me, but t's satisfying once it's off 🙃😄
Thank you. I can't blame them too much as they don't make the screens themselves and I don't think knew that they would be susceptible to damage after years of use. I have a new video coming out soon showing how to replace the screen and retain the touchscreen functionality.
You are welcome! If you ever decide you want the functionality of the touchscreen back you can go the extra step and replace the screen for 30 bucks. I have a video on that coming out soon.

@@hamzipamzi the ribbon itself is not white, usually dark bronze. The clip it goes into on mine was white but I'm sure it could be a different color as well. It's the wide flat ribbon at the bottom!
They always make it look easy, but because it’s auto repair, there are always complications - like stripped screws, stuck clips, and extra dismantling to do. Thank you though… it took a few days and a couple extra tools I had to buy, but I finally got it done. 😅

I did this to my mazda 3 2015 two years ago, it is easier and faster if you completely unscrew the panel. Now I wanted to update the FW to have android auto and apple carplay but the touchscreen is necessary to carry out this process. So I have ordered the replacement touchscreen from aliexpress ($15 USD) and surprisingly it works flawlessly, also after installing it I have realized that the original touchscreen is not completely clear or has become opaque over time, but when installing the replacement part has recovered enough visibility of the display.
In my case the Mazda tweaks has been installed and touch screen use not limited to stationary. It was sold back in 2018 (2014 model) as having android auto installed which the car yard couldn't verify as they had an iPhone. Turns out it was the unofficial tweaks one! This new feature is a welcome addition 😢 Just like the amount of condensation inside the headlights which in the past has caused it to fail a WOF (a yearly inspection of basic road worthiness in NZ)
Thanks for this. I couldn't get Mazda to honor a late warranty fix even though I had been in and out of service for this type of issue many times. Probably filing a claim with the BBB

Thank you for the guide! I recently bought a 2015 Mazda 3 and this issue in the bottom right corner. So if you were listening to music at a stop it would skip forwards over and over. I'm like you and never use the touchsceen so this solution was perfect!
Yeah it was great for me too as I never used the touchscreen anyways! Glad to hear you fixed it! 👊
Just had this happen on my 2016. Been going crazy for about a month, getting progressively worse. This video helped. Thank you!
Glad to hear it! You are welcome!
This is one of the best videos ever....Thank You
Thank you 🙃
OMG THANK YOU!! this has been driving me INSANE!!
Haha ☺️ you're welcome
Thank you so much for this video, my partner and I just fixed my infotainment system on my 2014 Mazda 3 saving hundreds of pounds, I am extremely grateful as it was driving me mad 🤣🥰
You are very welcome! 🙂
Thank you for the video! The fix is fast and easy.
Two things to help those trying this themselves:
1: The decorative bezel clips are springs, they do not need to be depressed. Simply pry out the bezel
2: The screen ribbon cable is very hard to see with the screen assembled.
(Mazda knew it but refused to recall just extended the warranty to 7 years which mine is denied by dealer, they said the sales had retired blah blah blah just do want to honour it anyway so I DIY...)
Just few tips to add to those got the same problem
1. there are 4 more screws on the back and bottom, remove them and with a bit of force you can separate the plastic cover from the display unit. Make the gap wide open
2. use the tiny flat head screwdriver to pull the white part outward, it will release the cable easily
3. be careful when you're loosing and tighten that main screw at 4:43, you don't want to drop it! Trust me!
Hope this help.
Haha hate when I drop bolts/nuts 😅
Yes yes and yes!!! “The ghost” called many people without my input and I was not able to stop it!
Haha too funny!
Outstanding video! Totally explained and easily solved our issue with the "ghosting."
The dealership informed us that we were 5 months past the warrantee and wanted 1,100 dollars for a full replacement. We had no idea this would happen til it did, they didn't care.
We performed the fix you demonstrated, now it's completely fixed!
You just saved me 1,100 dollars.
Cheers Mike!
Worked. I wound up having to cut the ribbon instead of unplugging it. But I rarely, if ever, used the touch screen, so that's no big deal. Thanks!
Thanks for the help! This was great. The white part of the black cable is what moves.
Welcome! And yes, the white part is what moves
You are the man! Thanks for sharing this info. Like others, I thought my issue was the control knob. I had to go a step further and seperate my screen to get to the ribbon(2016 Mazda3) which was only 4 small screws. I like my car again:)
🙂
I just fixed my 2016 Mazda 3 display. It was easy to do after seeing your video, thanks! I rarely ever used the touchscreen function anyway.
Nice David! 👍
Thank You very much, I was dealing with this problem over a half year and i took 15 minutes to get rid of this!
You're welcome 🙃
Absolute lifesaver, even 14 years later. This process was pretty much identical with the 2018 Mazda 3, just requiring the removal of ones more bracket before accessing the ribbon connection.
i just follow your detail instruction and got it fixed. Thanks for your kindness and help!
You are welcome! Thank you for the kind words!
Thanks so much for this video! I am in the UK and my Mazda 3 is a 65 plate and this has been happening for months! We assumed it was dust or crumps within the console so we will try this. The amount of times calls have been made 🤦🏼♀️😆 thanks again 👍🏻
No problem. Good luck.
@@radieyevanov I also found whenever someone phoned me whilst diving, I could never answer it, the call would be cancelled immediately and there was nothing I could do about it! So frustrating. Don’t know if you or anyone else found this?
You just saved my sanity. I couldn't figure out why my radio randomly scanned for new stations. I will contact dealership tomorrow to see if I qualify for recall that they extended for 7 years. If not, I will disconnect.
Good luck!
Good explanation. Ended up here because Mazda’s touchscreen in the CX-5 is also prone to this issue.
Just called Mazda dealer. No luck with warranty for my 2015 Mazda 3 😞. Might ask my brother to perform this for me since I suck at fixing things 😀. Thanks for the video
Not a problem. It's easy. Let him do it 😉 hardest part is honestly trying not to snap any of the plastic lol
Thank you so much for this, it was an easy task to do once I saw your very detailed video. Problem solved! Much appreciated!!
👊
This was fantastic. Fixed the issue in 20 mins, now working perfectly! Thank you Radi eye vanov :)
You are welcome Melissa 🙂
I’m going to try this for my Mazda 6. Sad it’s already kaput after 4 years.. Thank you so much!
Good luck! It's just the bad touchscreens. Not Mazda's fault as they don't actually make the touchscreens but they have learned and switched them out on the newer ones.
Just did this earlier today, thanks for the video! Almost lost the dang screw in the back down the air vents tho, careful ya'll
This issue drove me insane to the point I smashed my control knobs in, in a fit of rage 😂. Now I have ghosting and broken knobs. Wish I found this video sooner lol
Hahaha that's too funny 😂
That's great and useful info! Thanks Karl!
Maybe it's just me, but t's satisfying once it's off 🙃😄
Thanks for the guidance. I was also really nervous removing the ribbon, but it worked a treat so thanks.
👍
Just did this and working perfect! this video save $$$$$$ Thank you!
Great video it worked. Thank you. And shame on mazda for putting a product out there they knew what's defective.
Thank you. I can't blame them too much as they don't make the screens themselves and I don't think knew that they would be susceptible to damage after years of use. I have a new video coming out soon showing how to replace the screen and retain the touchscreen functionality.
Just wanted to say thank you for posting this
You are welcome! If you ever decide you want the functionality of the touchscreen back you can go the extra step and replace the screen for 30 bucks. I have a video on that coming out soon.
@@radieyevanov I would watch that for sure. Have you done a video about how to root dash cam cables behind the trim? That might get some views too
@@muppetman777777777 I actually did a really nice dashcam set up to a double din touchscreen in my 350z but never filmed it.
Used this video to guide my fix to my 2017 Mazda 6 ghost touch. It was slightly different on the 6, but worked out well. Thanks for creating and sharing.
Anytime! Glad to hear you fixed it 👍
I cant find the white ribbon
@@hamzipamzi the ribbon itself is not white, usually dark bronze. The clip it goes into on mine was white but I'm sure it could be a different color as well. It's the wide flat ribbon at the bottom!
They always make it look easy, but because it’s auto repair, there are always complications - like stripped screws, stuck clips, and extra dismantling to do. Thank you though… it took a few days and a couple extra tools I had to buy, but I finally got it done. 😅
Dude! You help me fix it. It took me about 20 minutes.
Right on 👍
Thanks for the video! It fixed the issue on our 2016 Mazda 3. Called the dealership but no recall on our VIN.
Awesome 👍
Fantastic video sir. Every how-to video should be like this. Great work 👏 👍
Well thank you kind sir!
Thank you! Did this today and it definitely works. I’ve been going crazy trying to sort this.
You're welcome 😊
Thank you, just bought a 2014 and it has ghost touch issue right in the bottom center. I have been having to drive around with it on the main home screen so there was nothing to click but this will allow me to be able to actually sit in my music screen and navigation without it going crazy.
👍
I happy I came across your video man. You're a lifesaver! No more possessed touch screen #2017mazda6
No one likes possessed touch screens 😉👍
Amazing video, this is exactly what I needed to see!
Im going to call mazda to see if I’m eligible for a recall
Thanks so much!!
You got it! 👍👊
My warranty is only for 5 years, since I have a 2015 model I’m not eligible for the recall :(
@@youhadmeathalal8635 just pull out the wire and call it a day! You won't regret it 😉🙃
It worked, Thank you from Thailand.
Welcome!
Great instructions! I’ll be doing this on the weekend. Thanks so much! 🙏🙏🙏
Welcome! Good luck!
i just fixed my ghost touch issue with by following this video. I was not able to disconnect the ribbon cable, so I just cut it. No more crazy screen issues. It took abiut 15 minutes from start to finish.
👍
Thank you for a perfect video mines been doing it for a while now, will definitely be doing this at the weekend, saved me a fortune
Welcome sir!
Never knew my car had touchscreen was never told 🤦♂️ I have a 2016 Mazda3 and it's having the same issue thanks. 🍻
Haha too funny! And no problem, welcome!
Thank you so much for making this video!! You rock!! This was a very quick and easy fix and worked like a charm.
You are welcome!
That's awesome info. I was actually kindof wondering how much a third party screen would be. Thank you!
useful hell. i have had the car for a few years never knew it was a touch screen lol,,,thanks!!
Haha 😆
In my case the Mazda tweaks has been installed and touch screen use not limited to stationary.
It was sold back in 2018 (2014 model) as having android auto installed which the car yard couldn't verify as they had an iPhone. Turns out it was the unofficial tweaks one!
This new feature is a welcome addition 😢
Just like the amount of condensation inside the headlights which in the past has caused it to fail a WOF (a yearly inspection of basic road worthiness in NZ)
Thanks for this. I couldn't get Mazda to honor a late warranty fix even though I had been in and out of service for this type of issue many times. Probably filing a claim with the BBB
You're welcome! I literally never used the touchscreen function so for me it was not worth fighting with mazda or anyone
Hi guys just did it today 22/09/2024 for those with mazdas 2014-2016 is very easy, what helped me a lot was that i bought some tools same like those that dentists use to scrap teeth! because removing that foil thing for the touch screen is a bit tricky!
Thanks for the video. Our 2018 screen does this but looks perfect without physical damage I can see. Would this still likely be the problem? Thanks so much
@@72superlead very likely yes
@radieyevanov you rock man. Thank you
@@72superlead 👊 no problem
4:50 how are you able to get the bolt out? I used a 10mm socket wrench screwdriver and the thing wouldn’t budge.
🤷 mine didn't fight me. Try something with better leverage or impact wrench maybe
Thank you for the detailed video, fixed the problem!
You are welcome
I have a 2018 Yaris is and I did this but still having problems and don’t have control over the stereo. Any solutions ?
