thank you for this I just popped those two clips underneath and the four screws on top and left the rest connected saved me a lot of time. Disheartening to see how many people are experiencing these random issues with their Mazda. You would think Mazda would correct this issue. 10/10 on this video! Thank you for creating it. :)
They did / are if you have ghost touch or screen not working take it to dealer and they will replace u set special warranty they extended radio to 7 years only applies to 2014-2016
Thanks for the video. For anyone considering doing this, if you are the least bit handy this is very do-able. Just a steady hand to pull off the dash vents. You don't really need to unplug and remove the whole assembly. Just take the four screws off of the main module and remove the display and dash mount. One important tip - don't just pull on the ribbon cable connecting the touchscreen to the PC board. There is a small white-ish latch at the point where the cable goes into the connector that you gently pull away from the connector. This releases the cable, and it easily slides out in one piece (unlike in the video). Connecting the new cable is just doing the reverse. The video is correct about the hardest part being how to remove the touchscreen from the bezel. The adhesive is very aggressive. Just try to get a thin plastic spatula or other flat tool under the touchscreen and slowly work it off. Too much force and you might break the plastic bezel. The glass will definitely crack as you go, so at that point there's no going back. I used Goof-Off to dissolve most of the remaining adhesive, then a little elbow grease with a soft piece of fabric will get the remainder. Once that is done, the rest is a piece of cake. Good luck!
Hey, I wanted to thank you. I think that so far this is the only relevant video I have found regarding this problem. My screen was also broken for some reason on 3 different spots and the touch screen wasn't working. Yesterday I replaced my screen the same way you did here, and for only 20$ and 3 hours of fun it turned out like new ! I am leaving here some more tips that I found helpful: * Use Isopropyl Alcohol and a razor blade when you're removing the old glass glue. * Let the Isopropyl Alcohol get into the cracks you're making with the blade and let it soak. * You can use a heat gun to melt the glue but this will cause the Isopropyl Alcohol to vapor so you'll need more of that. * Work while your hands and screen are inside a plastic bag that could catch all the tiny glass shards. * Don't panic when you notice another glass on the inner side of the screen and you think you've messed the touch screen - a new one comes with the new touch screen you're replacing this is the part that has the connector to the circuit board * When you disconnect the steel case of the circuit board try to work around from right to left, there are 2 "stoppers / holders" on both sides and you want to be careful. I used some leverage with a screwdriver and it worked for me. Thanks again, Your video was SUPER helpful !
Very good tips. Another one is: the connector is secured by a thin white tab latch. You must push it out and up to pull and insert the ribbon connector without damaging it (ref video here @ time 0:33 ua-cam.com/video/3AH3FCj4jhs/v-deo.html ). I only used a heat gun and a knife to separate the glass from the bezel with no loose shards but I agree working over a plastic bag is recommended just in case.
So I've been doing cell phone repair for over 17 years. I have a 2014 Mazda3. I've done this repair. To separate the old touch screen from the frame. Turn your oven to the lowest setting. Usually around 180°F. When the oven is up to temperature. Put the screen in for 5 min. It will separate very easy. Also, you'll want to remove as much of the old adhesive as possible to ensure the new touch screen adheres properly.
My screen was broken, I called Mazda and they told me it was $800 to fix 😂 I then asked how much is the part alone and they told me $450 for the 2017 Mazda 3. I laughed in their face, ordered the part on EBay for $150 did it myself. Thanks
Went ahead and did this while installing CarPlay today. This was a massive help. Like other commenters said, throwing the screen in the oven then using a box cutter to cut from the outside worked wonders for getting the broken glass out.
Thanks for the walk-through! Just replaced my screen and this was very helpful. The worst part was getting that last metal bracket off- those tabs were a pain.
Thanks for the video. It really helped prep me for the screen replacement. Just to add to/reinforce the tips for anyone else ready to embark upon this journey. - Leave the connectors attached to the back of the CMU - Just take the four screws off the top to remove the screen from the CMU and the two connectors to the screen - Be sure to disconnect the digitizer ribbon cable correctly (pull the white bit out and then up) - Heat gun and a razor blade works wonders for removing the screen adhesive
So I watched this video a couple times and in an hour I was able to change my Daughter's screen out. I used a heat gun to remove the old screen as well as a razor blade. Thank you so much for the video!!
apparently not reconnecting the touch screen cable will prevent ghost touching issues. I'm experiencing like a lot of other people the ghost touching where the screen likes to randomly do its own thing and this video was helpful in finding out how to remove the touch screen just so that I can disconnect the touch screen cable
You made it possible for me to save so much money by sharing your techniques! Thanks for creating this. I think it is the only one that shows the actual screen replacement.
I wish your video was around when I had this problem a year and a half ago! I had the same thing happen. It was extremely hot outside and I forget to close the cover for the sunroof. When I got back in my car I noticed a mark on the digitizer. I searched the Mazda 3 forums for info on how to get it fixed but they just recommended taking it to the dealer or buying an entire display unit from eBay. I knew there had to be better way so found a replacement digitizer for less than $20 and swapped it out. The new digitizer is clearer than the OEM one ever was. Too keep this from happening again I keep an old hat on my dash and use it to cover the screen the car is going to be parked outside for more than a couple minutes.
Dude, thank you! There was a service bulletin from Mazda to replace the delaminating screen, but of course I bought the car right after that offer had expired. So either a $900 OEM display from Mazda, or a $23 eBay gamble. This worked perfectly. What's funny is that I didn't know it was actually a touch screen since that function hasn't ever worked. Once I got the screen separated on one corner, I was able to run a razor gently along the seam from the OUTSIDE and cut the adhesive. Razor then used to get the old adhesive and foam off, followed by isopropyl and a rag. Once I cracked the screen, I realized there was no going back, but it worked perfectly. Thanks again.
In my 2014, my touch screen was bugging out hard so much that I couldn't use my gps so I disconnected my touchscreen ribbon cable 5 years ago. A few days ago, it was below freezing in the morning, but rose to 60 degrees in the afternoon and I came out and it was cracked from the temperature rapidly changing. Definitely going to do this now.
Hello everyone! Definitely a time save to just remove the 4 screws on the top. Fairly simple! Took me 20 minutes from start to finish! Thanks everyone for the tips and instructions 🤘🤘
Just did this today, thanks for the upload! Only thing that really sucked was the clips just above the glovebox. Dropped the glovebox and reached back there with some small needle nose pliers to get them to release
I like that you were prepared, but didn't rehearse :-) You did a good job! Some thoughts: You tore the ribbon cable because you didn't release the clip/clamp part of the circuit board connector. You should have removed the metal bracket before removing the ribbon cable. You were lucky. If you damage the clip/clamp on the circuit board, you're toast. The clip/clamp is hinged and lifts up to disconnect, and pushes down to clamp the ribbon cable connections together. Lift carefully from center of clip with fingernail or spudger tool to retract the ribbon, and press down after you've pushed the ribbon cable home. Do that before you put the metal cover over the circuit board, it's easier that way. You can use a heat gun to make the adhesive soft by warming it up a bit (don't warp the frame)... removes easier. Also use denatured alcohol instead of rubbing alcohol, if you have it. You should wear exam gloves while working on the touch panel and display screen. Easy on the Mazda, can be a real long process on some Toyotas. My daughter's dealer said $2000 to fix. Criminals. It's a defect and should be recalled. Thanks for the video!!
great video, I would add that you can soak the plastic frame in hot water, then take a razor blade (or sharp pocket knife) to the adhesive. the adhesive seems to come off all in one strip more often when it's warm and soaked. I lost a 10mm bolt down my air vent though, full cost to repair at home was around 25 for a new screen on amazon and a new ratchet set which was around 40 dollars. took about three hours with the trip to home depot.
Thanks for the instructional video. All worked great, but can defiantly recommend using a heat gun to soften the glue to remove the old screen and disconnect the ribbon cable just before removing the CB by sliding the holding bar to release the cable.
So glad I found this video. My 2016 Mazda CX-3 infotainment screen came apart on the edges during -46 weather up here in Canada, Winnipeg. Perfect teardown video. I have a new screen. Thanks again!
My touch screen was cracked like yours, I went to dealership and they wanted to replace the touch panel & display screen for $600 usd 😳😳 After check your video and also visit different websites to get the correct touch panel I followed your instructions and got the same fucking result 👌🏼👌🏼, my touch screen works perfectly & looks amazing 😀😀, thanks a lot buddy..!!
After replacing the touch screen, I found out that the touch screen was not cracked, as it looks like. It was the adhesive between the outer glass and the touch panel that is not sticking well and it looks like the screen is cracked, so you don't have to buy a new screen. you can take the outer glass and touch panel apart using hot airgun, then remove the adhesive with some alcohol and then put them together again with UV glue.
I live in Florida (typically 70°’s + and humid as hell) and we’re up north visiting family and my screen just cracked from the 17° weather from this years winter storm. Thank you for this video I will be following it when I get home! 🥲
Thanks for the awesome video! So good to find one that hasn't been pre rehearsed but also isn't full of a bunch of waffle. For anyone else attempting, when you remove the ribbon, get you fingernail in behind the little white clip to pop it backwards and then the ribbon will slide right out. That's what holds it in place. 😊
Not sure if it's been mentioned but when i did this backup camera wouldn't work. Before tearing it back apart i found you can do a hard reset on the screen by holding Mute + Nav + Back (the hand controls by shifter) button until when goes off.
Never go to dealership always check eBay or junkyards first ALWAYS! Most stuff is very simple a few screws or clips hold it in’ just don’t forget where screws go etc’ take pics etc rite down your disassembly steps like step one left screw then put a piece a tape with #1 on counter etc put screw on #1 then u can just reverse when putting back together
It crossed my mind just didn’t want to overheat something that didn’t need to be brought to temp. But yeah some temporary heat would definitely make it easier. Good tip
Well have a 2018 mazda and the heat just started doing this to my screen last month. Its not 1/4 of the screen. Taking it into mazda next week to see if they will extended warranty it. If not ill be doing this myself the day after.
Hey man, thanks so much for the video! I just finished doing the replacement following your procedure. My only note is for whatever reason things did not go as easy for me (one of the first screws on my head unit were stripped for some reason???) as it did for you haha. Might be an issue from my end though. Thanks again!

Thanks for this, I have exactly the same repair to do. Nice to know it'll only cost me the ~$20 for new glass. Next step is for me to stop living in a desert that gets to 125 degrees in the summer so maybe my screen doesn't crack again. -_-
To everyone having trouble trying to get that metal bracket off that holds the plastic bezel to the actual screen. Move it to the left or right then pull back. Will pop right off.
hello, I have this problem with my mazda 3 grand touring 2016. I would like to know where to buy the display and if you can install touch because the one that comes with my car is not touch. Thank you

@@theboydslife7809 Sorry I misworded the question lol. I meant I’m getting the car play retrofitted in a couple of days but in about a month I’m hoping to replace the screen so I have no clue if I can actually do it since they’re retrofitting the car
I was trying to update it to a new firmware and i turned the car off while updating. Now the screen is black. I took to the mazda service centre and they couldn’t get it back to the normal. I need your help😢
Sounds like a programming issue. But may have fried something also. I really don’t have a fix for that. May be about to find a cheap used screen on eBay. If you took it to Mazda was they able find that the screen was as receiving power and signal? If so yes you will probably need a new one. If not may be a computer issue.
They did a diagnostic test and saying the system is corrupt and you need to buy a new one for $2600. I am thinking to buy it from a write off vehicle. Is it worth ?

I woke up for work an noticed that spider web looking damage, in the corner of my screen. I'm a bit upset considering cars should be suited for any environment. It did dip below 30°s that night so I assumed it was because of the temperature. Because that's the only factor that I could come up with. How do I prevent it happening again or getting worse?
You can't, it's a common delamination fault down to the manufacturer, they, however, will come out with any old bullshit to avoid taking responsibility and will instead try to persuade you to part with hundreds of dollars/pounds etc to replace the entire unit! 😮 Easy and cheap fix to DIY thankfully.....
Can you tell me the name or type of kit you purchased from eBay? I have the exact same issues on my screen with the cracking and would like to replace the screen. Thanks.
Damn Mazda should be ashamed of themselves. I never liked those floating screens they might as well just put a bracket to stick your tablet onto! Good work good vid man👍🏻
I did this repair and now my screen wont turn on. I connected all the wires you did and triple checked. The radio music still plays but the screen is black and theres a high pitched noise coming from the radio. Does anyone know what I could've did wrong? :(
Wish I could help with this. But if you did plug everything back in it’s hard to diagnose with looking at the car. First start simple and check fuses make sure you didn’t short anything then take back apart to make sure everything is actually plugged in all the way. Then check the ribbon plug make sure it’s not upside down or ripped
@@theboydslife7809 I appreciate your response. For anyone else with a similar issue, recheck the ribbon wires like mentioned. I live in Florida (typically 70°’s + and humid as hell) and we’re up north visiting family and my screen just cracked from the 17° weather from this years winter storm. Thank you for this video I will be following it when I get home! 🥲
Dang weather. Good luck with your repair.
Did the same repair, your video walked me through the whole process, thank you .
Got a link to the screen kit?
I just replaced my screen with your video. Thanks a ton for this great video!
I need to do this myself, thanks! Dealership was going to charge me $600!!! Screw that
I went to the dealership and they wanted to replace the entire computer..for $500ish...Thanks for the video
Yeah dealerships are cray (I use to work for one ) this is a way cheaper option
Never go to dealership always check eBay or junkyards first ALWAYS! Most stuff is very simple a few screws or clips hold it in’ just don’t forget where screws go etc’ take pics etc rite down your disassembly steps like step one left screw then put a piece a tape with #1 on counter etc put screw on #1 then u can just reverse when putting back together
Same so I did it at home for 40 dollars
Life saver! Thank you. I just finished mine, just because of your video it took me about an hour! Amazing. Thank you very much!
this was a great guide, the only thing I did different was use a heat gun to soften adhesive and use a spudger.
Thank you for the video! Very helpful in solving the problem.
Thanks for this, replaced the touch screen on my Axela as well!
Nice to know it’s possible. I got a Scion Ia which uses the same screen.
Great video..just did mine on 2015..mazda 3..I used a heat gun and oven Mitt to remove glass.thx for the info
Thanks for this, I have exactly the same repair to do. Nice to know it'll only cost me the ~$20 for new glass. Next step is for me to stop living in a desert that gets to 125 degrees in the summer so maybe my screen doesn't crack again. -_-
Dubai??
Mine cracked this winter -5F at Christmas. Nice to know I don't need the whole unit.
Awesome video! Thanks for all the info.
The 10 mm bolt is FREAKING tight. I can’t loosen it!!!

Same stuck on that
Thank you for the video, I'm going to try it, greetings from Mexico.
Thank you
the way you ripped the digitizer cable gave me a heart ache as a tech for future reference those digitizer or ribbon cables have a flip siwtch hold them down you just have to flip it up
Thank you so much bro 🙏
Hi,, 5:36 I did not understand how I disassemble the last part (with clips) How did you do
After removing the screws then just place a small screwdriver underneath the clips and lift up. Believe there’s 4 of them.
okay, thank you for help..
Definitely needed this video. Thanks
Thanks so much for the video! About to do the same repair.
Would the process be the same for a Mazda 3 that doesn’t have a touchscreen? My car is a 2014. Thanks
@@gptriplesticks are you sure it’s not a touchscreen? Mine touchscreen didn’t work once the screen was cracked. After the screen replaced, it worked as it should.
Hi. Where did you buy the replacement Part?
Good question, I’m also wondering where you can buy the replacement kit
E bay.
Thank man you help me fix my screen from my 16' mx5
hi , its the same screen for mazda 2 2015?
Yes
Hello good video and helpfull, hoy do you separate the stereo in minute 6:00?, thanks from México
Yup…it’s off screen and I’m lost
Great video thank you
Thanks I just can't get those four metal clips on the sides of the mount how do you get it removed? I tried a screwdriver but to no avail
Had to use a couple little screwdrivers to keep pressure on the clip as you release the pressure on the other clips. Hope that makes sense
Give us the link of touch screen to buy it
I'm about to have the CarPlay update installed in my vehicle and the part is coming in around an month from now, do you think I would still be able to follow this video exactly?
Not sure to be honest with you. If it involves removing the head unit then yes
@@theboydslife7809 Sorry I misworded the question lol. I meant I’m getting the car play retrofitted in a couple of days but in about a month I’m hoping to replace the screen so I have no clue if I can actually do it since they’re retrofitting the car
Awesome video - thanks!
My mazda 2 somehow had tons of dust under the glass housing, can i open the glass frame to get rid of the dust without replacing it with the new one?
What is the part number I can not find it on eBay
Not sure of the part # but they are all over eBay. Someone posted a link somewhere in the comments .thanks for watching though
@@gurmeetsinghdutta1237 not worth what they are charging but definitely worth trying to find one on the the used market.

Can I have a link to the part?
Same
Can you tell me the name or type of kit you purchased from eBay? I have the exact same issues on my screen with the cracking and would like to replace the screen. Thanks.
Not sure off the top of my head at the moment. But the link has been posted in the comment section somewhere.
Boydie can't you just put the link in the description mate?!
where did you buy that screen replacement?
Ebay but don't know what he used to find it.
Thanks man for the video, I have the same problem on my Mazda!
Damn Mazda should be ashamed of themselves. I never liked those floating screens they might as well just put a bracket to stick your tablet onto! Good work good vid man👍🏻
Hi! What year mazda is yours? Will it work on a 2014 3rd gen?
Yes, same procedure. Easy job and a cheap fix, unless you like being robbed by legalised highwaymen aka dealerships!!
does this work for the 2017 mazda 3?
No
thanks for the great tut. Would appreciate it if you share the link for this exact screen so i get no surprises when i purchase it :D
Don’t have the link right now but it is posted in the messages somewhere
My issue was that the ribbon wires on the left and right side of the screen were moved around when I was taking off the metal mount and one of those wires controls the display of the screen. Thank you!
@@cyanideaside Man I have the same problem!! Followed the instructions and now I have a black screen! I tried disconnecting the ribbon cables and re-installing them but that did not work. I will try again and cross my fingers. If it works I will add to this comment. So frustrating

Any tips on getting the “clips” off around 6:00? Mine’s definitely not falling apart.
Sorry just saw this. One at a time and keep pressure lifting up while you pop the other open. If you let off the pressure they will re-clip themselves. Not sure if that helped or not.
