Great video and excellent job pointing out the oil gallery gasket issue on the HRs. One other possible cause for oil consumption on VQs are the valve guide seals. They can harden and begin to leak either from age, or hard duty cycles on the engine (track days). I use BG MOA to help keep my engine and seals conditioned. Although my Revup DE is lower mileage (55k), it only consumes between 1/2 - 3/4qt between changes, which is considered normal. I expect this to climb as the mileage increases, but there are tricks you outlined to help slow the rate. Once I run through my 5W-30 Pennzoil ultra Platinum jugs, I’ll switch be switching to 5W-40.
@@cristianmg8104 luckily mine is usually around 20 or a hair higher. The one still shot in the video is of my own pressure gauge. Also, at the very end of the video, after the outro, you can see my guage with the car running.
My 2003 350z has over 230k miles, recently started having lower oil pressure so I’m gonna be changing my oil from 5w30 to 10w30. Been using 5w30 high mileage but noticed she’s getting older so imma see if a little thicker oil will fixer right up.
Whoa! 2.5qt every 1k miles?! I had a burner before and it only needed 1qt every 1k mi, but that was at 106k mi on the engine. Pretty sure my rings were worn, was a RevUP DE, known for oil consumption.
hi. I bought a chiseled crankshaft and then bought inserts for it. I also changed the gallery gaskets. I measured the pressure on a 5w40 synthetic and showed 0.75 bar (11 psi) when fully warmed up. Is it not enough? are the liners bought after buying a wasted crankshaft to blame for everything?
I seen lower on a VQ engine that still ran fine with 200k miles on it. Sometimes there's only so much you can do. Especially if it's a high mileage motor.
Not many videos on low oil pressure.. 08 Z replaced oil pressure sensor. Oil light now comes on at idle and theirs low pressure. But when I rev the light goes away an pressure goes up
I have a 350z and i put 5/30 oil but my oil gaueg said it is 14 psi when i am in a red light or a stop and my engine sounds like very bad like my engine almost want to blow out
I mean if your z is a racecar and you are going all out on a racetrack with it for multiple runs yes, but if you are talking about a daily driven Z then no
Change your oil every 3k, replace the gallery gaskets and seals in a high mileage engine, and oil consumption isn’t a thing… If you can’t afford to do major maintenance items, you shouldn’t own the vehicle.
I think I overheard Comic Book Guy saying this was one of the best informative videos ever. Especially for anyone running an Infinity 3.5

i’ve been using 5w-40 in my g35 for a year now, my tuner told me to since I beat on the car in a hot climate. It runs great.
Right on!
What is your oil pressure at ??

Awesome video very well put together
Thanks Bryce! Appreciate that 🙂

👍
My 04 Z with 210k has been running 10w-30 oil after it's 150k mile mark. I add 2.5 quarts every 1k mile.
210k nice!

HR equipped Zs have an oil gallery gasket that can fail and cause low oil pressure. The same is try for 370Z and G37s
That hair 🤙🏼

have you tried to use Castrol Edge High Mileage oil or anything similar?

14 psi at idle isn't bad...sounds like there may be some other issues affecting your engine 😬
I just came from home and when i arrive my gauge saids there is 0 psi when i stop
