Corey should be mentioned in the list of greatest singers of all time. NOt rock singers, not soul singers, not gospel singers. SINGERS. FAn-fuggin-tastic and a HUGE HUUUUUGE influence on me.
I worked at a venue in NYC where the PA was flown over the front of the stage and the lights were right in front of that out over the front of the crowd. Corey was singing there that night and during sound check, while the light guy was in front of the stage focusing the lights for the show, Corey said "Everybody cover your ears. This is gonna be loud." Then he let loose one of the craziest high screams I've ever heard come from a human being and the light guy (right in front of the those speakers) jumped 20 feet off of the ladder holding his ears. When asked about it later the light guy said "I felt like my skull was penetrated by an alien death ray." Brother man has got some pipes! I've never heard anything like it before or since.
This was the 80's - Bands like Living Colour, Kings X and Fishbone were turning heads. They all had black front men and could seriously rock out hard. None of these bands were appreciated in their time, but I made sure to attend their shows and support them because america was lost and did not want to give these guys the respect and love they deserved then. I remember those days WELL.
Still come back to this periodically to remind me just how good music that's rarely mentioned can be. This specific performance of the song really raised the bar
At the time I didn't really appreciate how good Corey Glover was as I was blinded by the amazing riffs and musicianship of the other 3. Now I think Corey is the highlight for me. Great band and a very healthy time for music and musicianship.
Summer of 1988 the song/video Cult of Personality was released. First time I heard it I was frozen. As soon as Vivid was released I bought the cd and it was nothing like I had heard before. Raw rock/jazz is all I can describe it as. Loved every song on that cd.
I feel like that guy played with the heart, there is not many musicians that sounds like it. He goes doin arrangements/licks fast or simple but never missing either the time or the pitch and at the same time sounding amazingly natural and like he has the music running in his veins. I dont know his knowledge of music but to me he sounds like playing w the heart
Circling the Fringes - This is not no Doug Wimbish, I’m afraid. This their original bass player Muzz Skillings. Sadly left the band after 1991 and has stayed outta the limelight ever since. Shame!
What a fucking live performance that was, you'll be very hard pushed to find a modern day band do a live performance at good as this. Jesus Christ fantastic!!!!
You know what amuse me? Vernon and Eddie Van Halen in studio had this tecnique, then in live shows they do what they fuck wanna do, nothing accord to the Studio versions. And i Love it. Sorry my english xD
Geez, stumbled on this by accident. Completely forgot about this great band. shame on me. They were so great. We used to sing this loud, fantastic song, great musicians. Glad I came across it, goes to my favs at once....
what a fantastic living beauty of a rock and roll song this one is. A real heart stopper. I heard this and thought, that's so rich. How could they top that?
I’ve loved this song for decades. Top 5 for me. How could anyone not rock out to Living Colour? I’d get married again just to have that played as my Wedding March. No joke!
That man can sing. The whole band is super talented If you dislike this you pressed the wrong button by mistake. It's better live than recorded!! Man this band is just HOT!!!! ♥️✌
Glover and Terrance Trent D'arby ( Maitreya ) were very close in vocals- they both have that thing that 'thing' that Sam Cooke had. I remember when this aired.. This is, by far the best version of this song and I hope this sees a release one day.
Thats how we used to roll no bs quasi musicians like Malone Stallone, Kenya East, Gen Z and his creative pretty side. talking about music … just come out and play stop shitting on your mics and talk philosophy wout any content …
@@LS-tt9ci I wanted to see them in Chicago this year but I wasn't down to pay 120 for a ticket to bands I was less interested in in the process. But I definitely want to, next time they come to town!

Truth .💯💪💪
Will Calhoun is an alien overlord of the drum kit. Who else sounds even remotely similar to this day?
bye myself
I have to agree.
He was sent to cure us from this unfunky ufo.
Each member of this band is their own entity in music. It beats the shit out of me how they weren’t getting credit.
so tight! such an underrated guy and band

Criminally underrated band, Vernon Ried is a guitar god and black guitarists don't get enough recognition. That is all.
If you dislike this you pressed the wrong button by mistake.
WORD
i love this band but that start of the first solo was kinda terrible i bet even the guitarist disliked that
This song is so good. And great performance by Corey.

Those ghost notes by the bass player in perfect time with the drummer at 2:45... never mind the unison lick at 2:40
These guys deserve to have their names mentioned. That is Doug Wimbish.

Great tune, great playing, awesome voice! I love that descending bass bit in the second verse...uber tasty!
You know you're in for a treat the second he opens his mouth. Holy shit.
Why aren't there more bands like this?

Will your setup back then was perfect. Why you left Pearl will always haunt me. Your kits have never sounded as good.
Great Voice! Had a chance to meet a couple of them at my Boy's Godfrey House in Brooklyn years ago. Great guys.......
The story of a band that were dismantled way to quickly. They have it all. Just embracing what they have left us
That voice!! Still sick!! 👑🎙🎧🎸
Reminds me of Led Zeppelin in a way. The musically gifted counterpart.
How can you give this a thumb down.......
zero dislikes so far ! nuff said
Coreys trousers!!! Help me I am blind!!! Adrian!!!
The like-to-dislike ratio is pretty impressive, and totally legit!

They're just a great American band. Great music. Many influences.
A Hard Rock band first and foremost, but one without a box.

Prince at the bass? I never knew that.
No, he's called Muzz Skillings.
Oh man Vernon Reid inspired me to play guitar!!
To have seen these guys live in their heyday
Man, go see them next time they get close to you. They rock just as hard as they did in the beginning. Incredible show. You will not be disappointed.
@@LS-tt9ci I wanted to see them in Chicago this year but I wasn't down to pay 120 for a ticket to bands I was less interested in in the process. But I definitely want to, next time they come to town!
