These guys were seriously 30 years ahead of their time- that amazing vocal with a rock band, fusing rock/soul/hip hop/rnb/funk/jazz, not to mention the social consciousness- eg. lyrics about the fetishisation of black culture- no one was singing about that stuff back then! And holy moly can that guitarist play. Hugely underrated by the mainstream.
You said it all! Living Colour was really ahead of their time! Vernon Reid (guitar), Corey Glover (vocals), Will Calhoun (drums), and Doug Wimbish (bass, later replacing Muzz Skillings) are incredible musicians who fused genres like rock, funk, jazz, soul, and hip hop in a unique way. Corey Glover sings like no other, and Vernon Reid on guitar is just surreal, full of technique and emotion. Plus, Vernon Reid’s lyrics are powerful, addressing social issues like the fetishization of Black culture and the fight against racism. He tackled topics that very few bands were willing to talk about back then. Without a doubt, they were ahead of many and are still incredibly underrated by the mainstream. These guys play like no one else!
Como se diz aqui no Rio de Janeiro: "Os caras estavam o aço tocando"! Sem distinção! Todos estavam em um excelente momento! Que excelente performace esta! As they say here in Rio de Janeiro: "The guys were playing steel"! Without distinction! Everyone was in a great time! What an excellent performance this is!
Pura verdade. Red hot chilli Peppers faz um som semelhante (Não sei qual banda é mais velha)faz sucesso mundialmente e eles não tanto quanto merecem. (Não estou criticando red hot chilli Peppers)pelo contrário, gosto muito da banda.
@Eric Genest The bassist is playing with his left hand above the fretboard (“live”) instead of in his usual position... why... well, because... he can!

Such a great band, never got the recognition they deserved. Maybe they hit at the wrong time, kind of ahead of their time maybe..?
Way ahead of their time.

Are you high?? Vivid went double platinum and reached number 6 on the US Billboard Chart. Boy, they are so obscure.

I swear I just felt a Frank Zappa vibe.
