Hi guys, i always remember when i listened the main songs of living colour on the radio here in Brazil. One of the first thing then i did when the internet started with youtube, i tryed to looking for the band songs... and i discovered a universe. I really enjoy the living colour songs!
These brothers dropping knowledge and rockin" at the same time GREAT SONG. I bought their tape back in the day.to bad many black people didn't get their message or couldn't feel the rock music. which really is our music anyway.
The fact is their message was strong in a postive way & I'm sure it has filtered through the industry. It's not obvious but how can any right minded person not give this band cred??!!!!!
I was a fan of their music from the moment I first heard "Cult of Personality". So see black folks ROCK like this was an awesome sight...both in 1988 when I was a junior in high school, and today.
You should have seen Bad Brains in the early/mid 80's live as well....like a religious experience. I (thankfully) saw Living Colour on their swing through Toronto in 89 before the album really exploded. I have always felt grateful to my first boss for convincing me to go that show as they obviously are killer live.
If by "our" music...you mean actual musicians right...because if your talking color of skin...then you straight up owe the twelve note tonal system and their accompanying instruments to white Europeans...but the last time I ran a check...everybodies plates are from Africa. Stop with this ignorant racist bullshit.
For me, across all genres, this is one of the all time greatest ensemble of music and musicians. I'm a Jazz guitarist but these guys gives me the best goosebumps everytime I listen to them. The lyrics are 1,000 % on point.
Jason Hill Vernon Reid has a 'very big part' in this Full sound. If you take the guitar parts from Vernon Reid away...it would be much less Full. For sure! Vernon Reid is 'the' driving part in living colour. Excellent guitar player!
I'm disgusted by how that audience was acting. This man was dropping knowledge and at the same time he was singing really good and they were all over that stage. People often ask why this band is not bigger than what they are and I have one answer their own people. Black people should have gotten behind and should get behind groups like this because these are the true trend setters
Exactly Bud!!!! Its damn shame our own motherfuckin people didnt get behind these wonderful talented musicians. Im big fan heavy metal due to them Bud. Also im intermediate guitar player, just started learning barre chords.
They were wildly popular with the white rock crowd....this audience wasn't ready for rock...black people did not initially come to see Bob Marley either...even when he played in Harlem...it was mainly white trustafarians that came to the show...and actually, still...
That's because the vast majority of black people back then didn't even think of giving rock or metal a chance. Even when the bands were made up of people of their own skin color. A lot of great bands such as Bad Brains, Black Death, and Sound Barrier never got the recognition they should have by the black community as most of them couldn't appreciate this kind of music. Living Color was a great band. They weren't as hard as I'm used to, but they had good messages in their music. I grew up listening to heavy metal starting with Alice Cooper, Kiss, and Twisted sister before getting more into trash, death, and black metal. I was always looking for the hardest, fastest, and most extreme forms of music. But, I always wondered why their weren't many black rock and heavy metal bands back then as I was kind of looking for some black role models in those genres. It's a lot better now, but still the amount of rock and heavy metal bands that exist are still rather scarce as are the number of black people who appreciate them.
The reason why people think this is not a live performance, is because Living Colour were THAT good! This same phenomenon has happened to me with other amazing artists like Seals And Crofts, early Dokken and early Thomas Dolby.
I still listen to songs from Vivid, Times Up and Stain today. I will never tire of listening to this amazing band. Got to see them live in 2013. One of the best live shows I’ve ever been to.
