    No auto-tune. No silly gimmicks. No excessively-showy props. No pretentious use of "avant-garde" costumes. No ridiculous over-choreographed dance routines.
    Just four world-class musicians, speaking straight from the heart, and performing well live because that's how music had generally to exist, once upon a time.

    • @Imadeyourun
      @Imadeyourun 5 років тому +5

      That's because the vast majority of black people back then didn't even think of giving rock or metal a chance. Even when the bands were made up of people of their own skin color. A lot of great bands such as Bad Brains, Black Death, and Sound Barrier never got the recognition they should have by the black community as most of them couldn't appreciate this kind of music. Living Color was a great band. They weren't as hard as I'm used to, but they had good messages in their music.
      I grew up listening to heavy metal starting with Alice Cooper, Kiss, and Twisted sister before getting more into trash, death, and black metal. I was always looking for the hardest, fastest, and most extreme forms of music. But, I always wondered why their weren't many black rock and heavy metal bands back then as I was kind of looking for some black role models in those genres. It's a lot better now, but still the amount of rock and heavy metal bands that exist are still rather scarce as are the number of black people who appreciate them.

    Damn! I've just reconnected with this band. Their music today rings true as it did thirty years ago (esp. with Donald DipShit in office). The musicality of this band is just off the charts. Looking back, I wonder if they were just too good, too creative or too cerebral for the average listener of their time. During the time they were popular, I knew many musicians that while they weren't into the hard rock element of Living Colour, always gave props to the musicianship, song writing, lyrics and originality. For me I was into it all. Rediscovering Living Colour after all these years later is just as invigorating as the first time I heard them.

    As a latino kid born in Brazil, i imagine being a black kid in the 80s and watching then perform live with this much power and with a such a powerful message must've probably felt like watching superheroes

    Saw Corey Glover live (front row center!) as Judas in one of Ted Neely's last live Jesus Christ Superstar shows... Though both were beyond awesome in their own ways (Ted still hitting the high notes without hesitation in his 60's, and Corey stepping RIGHT IN!), was beyond impressed...

    When this band first came out I love them then and I love them now this band knows how to kick ass and it is the first African-American metal band considering that this band was the first group to open up for the Rolling Stones when they came out on stage they were greedy with boos but they still continued on and persevered and that just goes to show you there is no color lines in music and this group is badass plain and simple😊

    Living Colour is the baddest 4 piece band on the planet Earth 🌎 Think about it. A singer,a bassist,a guitar,a drummer. What do you get with that combination? Living Colour.
