The beginning part about the growth rings and age of the wood is fascinating. It's amazing to think how much history that tree witnessed! A tangible connection to the past.
I'm a finish carpenter, furniture maker and retired custom home builder in the United States in the Chicago suburbs. I've been watching you since the early days of your channel. I greatly appreciate your incredible skills and attention to detail!!! Thanks for sharing!
All of your videos are really pleasant and interesting to watch, but I especially like these more personal videos with more dialogue! Thank you so much for sharing all this with us!
Fantastic skills and for waste wood you have given much respect 🙏 and thought about its history. To think this tree was hit with a spear or arrow. 😮😮 amazing 👏 thank you for sharing ❤️
Thank you for spending the time to produce this content while still working full time, Shoyan. It’s so enjoyable I even watch your other channel without knowing any Japanese 😁.
Yet another beautiful project. Thank you for sharing your work and passion on UA-cam. I get ideas, information and inspiration from you. I love the discolorations from the lye and the old metal in the wood. It gives a very interesting character. We have some dead trees which were cut down on our property. I think I will do something similar with some of that wood. Much better than burning it in the fire! Like you, I think the wood will be happier. You also inspire me to get my electric portable planer out and use it more. I rarely think of what it can do, but now I have ideas.
Beautiful. I would turn the legs around so that the "V" shape with the beautiful grain shows. It will match the top better, and look less bulky. Just my thoughts.
Totally absorbing video from beginning to end. What started out to be an almost waste piece of wood is now a most elegant looking b-b-q table fit for anyone, Most enjoyable video. Thanks for again sharing your skill & knowledge with us. Cheers, Don from South Aust.
The only "ear full" you should get are ears full of COMPLIMENTS and APPRECIATION! Great Job!!! あなたが得るべき唯一の「耳がいっぱい」なのは、褒め言葉と感謝でいっぱいの耳です。 よくやった!!! Anata ga erubeki yuiitsu no `mimi ga ippai'na no wa, homekotoba to kansha de ippai no mimidesu. Yoku yatta! ! !
I think the black spot on the slab is beautiful. Just as the hole in the leg adds character, the black stain shows it survived over 100 years after human intervention. What a wonderful way to display a historic piece of nature!
Great table and I loved how you explained what you did and the tools that you used. This was not something that was made with expensive tools. I can see myself working like this. Thank you.
Amazing channel, I am subscribed. Slowly watching every single video. Very talented I’m learning lots as a young carpenter here in Canada 🇨🇦 looking to take my skills to the next level
Great video start to finish, very much enjoyed it. I am most intrigued by the use of the power hand planer to flatten the top without leaving tracks or ridges, the skills exhibited here are superior.
Great project very well done. Beautiful result. I noticed the brief mention of Totoro in this video. Studio Ghibli movies are genius and a great favorite of mine . I have been a huge fan for a long time since my sons, now in their 30s, were young. Thanks for what you do.
It is very rustic, but very beautiful and I enjoyed seeing you make it. Every tree tells a story and I am glad you made this instead of turning the wood into wood chips.
Your woodworking skills are impressive, excellent blend of contemporary and traditional techniques with top-notch precision! Your English explanation is also crystal clear, thank you for sharing! (Instant subsribe! ! )
wood is wonderful!!!! I logged for a few years and worked at two different saw mills i had a 46 mag saw!!! they are good ... But the most lovely wood is plum walnut is good persimmon is nice but by far plum is the prettiest!!! see if you can find some it would have to be old when they die but you will not be disappointed!!!! your table is good and your wife may have liked it!!!
That is an absolutely beautiful table top. To imagine that was going to be wood chips just shows that we should be appreciating what nature gives us a little more. That's part of the reason I drive around town looking for people cutting down trees on their property, I offer to take the large pieces of trunk away for them so all they have is to take the small limbs and leaves to the dump (then the tree trunks sit in my backyard drying and getting in the wife's way when she's in the yard working, the wood makes the yelling worth it).
People see waste wood but this is perfectly fine! You are not getting timber but as a figured slab, this wood is amazing. Thank you for making something beautiful from this piece.
Obviously Shoyan-san is extremely knowledgable/clever/amazing quality work but i am just amazed at the way he uses power tools - i've been in construction for decades so seen a lot of tradesmen doing that + millions on yt vids obv haha but i've never seen some one so effective and so much finnesse with very big really and tricky surfaces moving alot of material - he handles all of that work as if the powertool and the type of timber was a 1/3 the size! Feels like watching a great boxer or something
The top is a lovely peace of wood great grain and colours. The staining could be from an old nail as trees was used as post in the old days the staining looks grate nice green colour.take care.😀👍👍
“It turned out rugged and big, so it will probably get in the way. Though I may get an earful.. I will leave it here.” Hooray! That is so funny! “Getting an earful” is same the world over! :D Excellent project! Really enjoyed seeing you make it happen. What about making packages of small pieces of the wood you use for projects and sell them to your viewers? We would be able to see, touch and especially smell wood we are unfamiliar with. I’d buy such a kit.
You may have gotten an ear full, but it's beautiful and should last. I didn't see any fasteners used. Does the weight of the tabletop keep it from sliding around?
180 - 200 year old wood should never be wasted. We owe the tree respect. Glad you rescued that log.
The beginning part about the growth rings and age of the wood is fascinating. It's amazing to think how much history that tree witnessed! A tangible connection to the past.
It didn't witness anything. It's a tree. It just existed concurrently with historical events.
@@Heymrk i bet youre fun at parties

What is the other channel ? Love the work this man does .
I have never seen such skill with an electric handheld planer
Shonan-San, you are a boss with that chain saw.
The combination of maneuvering expertise while relying on simple tools inspires me to tackle complicated projects with the hand plane! Thank you!

The wood really turned out beautifully.
I think that is the biggest saw I've ever seen!

what a beautiful piece of "waste" wood. I'm glad you saved it from becoming woodchips as well!!
Great table and I loved how you explained what you did and the tools that you used. This was not something that was made with expensive tools. I can see myself working like this. Thank you.
That planers cord also shows a lot of history.
Nice table, thanks for showing it on it's place.

The wabi-sabi is strong in its uniqueness in the table you crafted. It gives that wood a useful purpose for your family to enjoy.
Great video start to finish, very much enjoyed it. I am most intrigued by the use of the power hand planer to flatten the top without leaving tracks or ridges, the skills exhibited here are superior.
Loved the Totoro reference

Let's just appreciate how impressive it is to plane a tabletop with a hand planer.
It is very rustic, but very beautiful and I enjoyed seeing you make it. Every tree tells a story and I am glad you made this instead of turning the wood into wood chips.

As always you surprise us with wonders created with your hands carpenter san 👍👏👏💪
11:45 has been the most satisfying thing I’ve seen in a while
Absolutely wonderful work, truly a beautiful piece of work.
Amazing work I love seeing how skillful you are with your tools, especially the electric hand plane!
People see waste wood but this is perfectly fine! You are not getting timber but as a figured slab, this wood is amazing. Thank you for making something beautiful from this piece.
Beautiful table! I have made similar tables from old pecan trees. I love old rustic wood like this.
I love watching your videos, a true master carpenter
I love the different woods you have in Japan Shoyan. Most popular wood for housebuilding in New Zealand is pinus radiata.
I am very happy you were able to salvage the stump and make something out of that beautiful cedar. Wonderful result.
Watching here in the Philippines ❤️
You are quite an artist and craftsman. Just wonderful. Thank you for continue to provide this content.
I love that big circular saw
The thought of an Edo period spear tip in the tree is so neat!
Beautiful work. Thank you
Great project. Greetings from Ireland.
very beautiful piece, Shoyan san!
Fantastic!! For something that was supposed to be waste wood u've made something that'll be used for generations, in my opinion. Gr8 idea😉🤓🤙✌
That turned out beautiful!!! Well done!!!
Great video , excellent workmanship, nice tooling
What a beautiful BBQ table you have made, this raw timber finish is very nice. Great work with a lovely old piece of timber. TJ

Great content again, super workmanship.
Beautiful table !
I've been happily using chalk in woodworking, it definitely pops out more sometimes then pencil or pen!
Very nice work as always 👌👍💯

très joli plateau , j'adore !
Beau travail ! merci
Thank you. I am just starting woodworking and I feel like I am watching a master class. I aspire to have your wood warehouse one day!
Beautiful work!
It’s beautiful!
What a thing of beauty!
Beautiful. I think you also wanted to cut the center of the legs to expose more of that wonderful grain 🙇
2:22 Now that's what you call a circular saw.
I really enjoyed this
Very enjoyable...
Beautiful

very nice
Maybe melted bees wax with the oil would be a better long term solution? Also, we would love to see your family enjoying it! It's beautiful.
Spectacular work ❤❤❤
That was cool 🤙 thank you!
This is very similar to my work. Leaving the bark on until you can move it inside is better
That table would look beautiful here in the Texas sun. Slicing BBQ on that table would be so good!!
You may have gotten an ear full, but it's beautiful and should last. I didn't see any fasteners used. Does the weight of the tabletop keep it from sliding around?
