Steve Miller is criminally underrated Guitar Player, Singer and Writer of Blues based Rock and Roll. Seen him a couple of times, and he NEVER disappoints. Other great songs by the man: "Jet Airliner", "Livin' In The USA", "Mercury Blues", "Swingtown", "Take The Money And Run" and "Wild Mountain Honey".
And "Space Cowboy," "Goin To the Country," "05 - Shu Ba Da Du Ma Ma Ma Ma," his version of "Mercury Blues," and "Serenade."
He’s appropriately rated
Man, this is bringing back some nostalgia. Me and my cousin used to put this song on and smoke a bowl back when I was 18-19yo, those were much simpler times back then. Here's to the good old days 🤑👌👌
big ole jet airliner, don't take me too far away, big ole jet airliner, cos it's here that I got to stay. yeah early 70's, I listened to this all the time
Every time I hear this song, I think of my late husband. When we first met, he used to play this song for me. Next song should be Take the Money & Run.
sorry for your loss
Ahhh thinkin of you my old man plays this for me 2. 43 yrs.
May it bring you great memories of him. Music be the food of love....play on!!!
@@lindaaugone382 Thank you.
@@loisr3970 I was with him for 27 years. He died fairly young--he was 50 years old, but he was the embodiment of this song. He was the joker, the smoker & the midnight toker.
Steve Miller references some of his previous songs at the beginning of this song. "Gangster of Love" from his 2nd album in 1968, "Space Cowboy" from his 3rd album in 1969 and "Enter Maurice" from his 7th album in 1972.
I saw this comment after I posted mine that is about the same. OOps😁
Fun fact: this topped the charts twice - once in early 70's when it came out then again after it was used for a Levi's commercial in the 90's - it holds the record for this feat
"I really your love peaches, want to shake your tree" is one my favorite lines in music.
Especially when H6 is wearing a "peach state" t-shirt...

I agree. You probably know this and just left out the word "your" when he refers to peaches. Any way I love it too 😊
So many good ones from Steve Miller. When I was a teenager and my parents had a lake house, Steve Miller was often on the radio. Just hanging out in the water with friends. Great memories.
I was nicknamed Joker by an older dude when I was 13 yrs old... stuck with me ever since.... As a 40 yr old man, this hook was allways one of my catchfrases... and yes I have been toking daily for the past 23 yrs... never unemployed, no debt and i am an educated electrician, doing just fine... only thing I fear is losing my drivers license in a random traffic drugbust...
Ha! I was a teenager in 73. Saw Deep Purple in 72, Zeppelin in 75, The 70s were kicking
I had the pleasure of installing a Nav/sat on he's boat years ago. He's boats named Adacadabra 😊
Early MUST HEAR Classics,, Steve Miller Band "Space Cowboy" & "Living In The U.S.A."
Somebody get me a cheeseburger!
Steve Miller Band was a great band. Saw them live once. Fly Like an Eagle was their biggest hit. They played it live for 10 minutes extended. Too cool.
Jungle Love is another good one from them.
he had as big or bigger hits! Joker was huge!
Good Morning! Steve Miller has a bunch of fun "road trip" songs! I was excited to see that you were reacting to Joker. I went to outside concert, Pat Benetar opened for Steve Miler, in 1996, I think. Me and my new boyfrend went to concert, he only knew Abracadabra, so we listened to the older albums together to be ready. LOL We have been married now for 25 years. This song is fun to listen and sing along.
A classic! Steve Miller has a few songs that you will definitely know. Take The Money And Run and Rock'n Me were big hits. Fun reaction 🤘
Don’t forget turn the page
@@suzannastinnett778 I had no idea Steve Miller Band wrote "Turn The Page", I thought Bob Segar wrote that song, or was Bob Segar part of the band? Metallica's cover is my favorite version btw, I just love the energy of that version.
@@BigHomieSteveTheMetalHead I’m sorry I write the wrong song I was listening to turn the page while typing ! I feel so stupid for not reading what I typed to you
@@suzannastinnett778 omg that's funny lol. Don't feel bad tho, I've done that a few times myself lol.
@@BigHomieSteveTheMetalHead , I don’t feel bad I just think I’m coming down with old timers or the weed I’ve smoked back in tha day done got to me! Lol
Saw them a few years back. They still got it 🔥
I saw them in Baltimore about 4 years back. Still great!
Hands down my favorite reaction channel on UA-cam, you guys not only have a very original point of view, but you break down the music, the lyrics, and you have an actual knowledge of music, absolutely brilliant
After cleaning out all the players at the table, I flipped the dealer a generous toke and vanished into the night.
Toke = noun - a tip or gratuity given by a gambler to a dealer or other employee at a casino.
verb - (used without object), toked, tok·ing.
to provide a toke.

to give a toke to.
Smokey, I would almost be willing to bet you've heard more from the Steve Miller Band. They had several iconic songs
Fly like an eagle, Abracadabra, Take the Money and Run, among others.
Here ya go guys. The word "toke" without inhaling. A song by Brewer and Shipley titled "One Toke Over the Line". Check it out!
Yes great song!!! Cause I'm right here at home. My old man has been playing this 43 yrs.
Gosh Take the money and run, Jet airliner,
Mercury Blues, omg just remembered lord luvs flippin ducks..
Wintertime..
Just started dating I was in school he was workin got our first car!
What a musical ride its been, still luv the old goat🌼
🍻
Y’all have probably heard other Steve Miller songs somewhere but didn’t know it. He has a bunch of pretty well known songs
Check out Serenade, Jet Airliner,
Fly like an Eagle and Dance Dance Dance. All Steve Miller classics. His music just sounds like summertime or road trips like you mentioned
Their greatest hits cd has been in my rotation for years. I am a space cowboy.
This is probably the only song of theirs that I remember. Steve Miller is his name. Oh and hey, I was a teenager throughout the 70's...wish I could go back
Every time I hear this, I sing the guitar solo.
I think y’all might know a few more but just don’t realize. Abracadabra, Fly like an eagle so fun to sing along to. ❤️
The Live version is amazing, the Chili Peppers were babies when this came out.
This song is awesome and makes me think of the summertime and living and enjoying life! And I’m a toker, lol
I haven't seen anyone react to Night Rangers' song "Sister Christian" yet. I won an 8track tape of theirs when I was a kid at the county fair. I may have been 10 or 12 at the time and cassette tapes had already taken the market over 8track tapes so you could still find'em on the cheap everywhere. I just thought that song was awesome as a pre-teen who'd not heard much rock until then (raised by a preacher). Nobody even had the player for those anymore, so it was a few months before I even found a way to listen to it.
“One toke over the line sweet Jesus
one toke over the line.” 🎶🎵
-Brewer & Shipley
Wild mountain honey, one of my favorite Steve Miller band songs. Fell in love with it while having a bad night.
Great reaction guys! "Serenade" is an awesome tune of his!
This guy learned to play guitar from Les Paul.
Wow
Not only that, Les Paul was Steve's godfather, his parents were best man and matron of honor for Les and Mary Ford's wedding, and many top musicians frequented their house in Dallas and recorded in his father's home studio.
Steve Miller also taught Boz Scaggs to play guitar during their high school days. Boz was a member of the Steve Miller Band for their first two albums before going solo.
Nice! I would not categorize this as folk music though. Even though this is mellow, folk rock would not use an electric guitar.
Steve Miller is infamous for verbally trashing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when he won. He went OFF.
Hi guys. Hi from Australia. I think you'd call this country rock(for this era). The genres have been changed a lot over the years, as music has changed. Led Zep and the like were considered heavy metal back then, but now they're just rock.
This song is far from country rock. If anything at all, it's actually closer to blues rock, but either way, it's rock all the way, then and now.
Steve Miller is just a vibe. My favorite song is The Stake. Underrated groove/blues feels to it 🖤
What a song I watched a documentary before and they said that the word Pompetous was made up while they were writing it, I still don’t know exactly what it means 😂 I’m pretty sure it’s like lovely or splendid
KEEP ON ROCKING DUDES 🤟🤟
It's Long been a Mystery, just, what that Word is...
I've heard some pretty interesting conversations about though.
i always feel like a spacecowboy!..😁😁😁😆😆😂
Not sure if you remember it or not, but there was a really good movie called Space Cowboys that came out in the late 90's - early 2000's (can't remember the exact year atm).
@@BigHomieSteveTheMetalHead i sure do!..
Lovey dovey all the time, great song.
Have you guys seen Dazed and Confused? Set in 1976 Texas, last day of high school before summer vacation; awesome soundtrack and sweet cars.
Gr8 Song Gr8 Memories😀
The 70's was the BEST !!! I love that you guy's like this
"Living In The USA" is probably my favorite Steve Miller Band song. It's criminally underrated. A perfect banger. You should make that your next Steve Miller Band song.
Big RHCP fan here, didnt see the connect in style until u pointed it out. Definitely can see it!
1973....I was 10 years old. Damn...I was in my teenage years when Fly Like an Eagle came out. I can remember hearing it on the Radio washing dishes after Dinner. It was Alone time for me and I would Sing with the Radio. Same time as Eric Clapton Cocaine and Foghat and Peter Frampton. Sorry, I went down the Hole. I do Love Music from the 70s. But, I am still a 90s kinda Gal at almost 60. Thank you for this Fantastic Show!
Ahh yes Steve Miller Band! Just listened to your Fleetwood Mac reaction and you got me reminiscing my childhood and the music my parents would always play which Steve Miller Band was a favorite of theirs. I'd reccomend reacting to Serenade, True Fine Love, Jungle Love, and Abracadabra as those are some of my favorites by them at the moment. Thank you guys for the reaction!
Saw them performing live a few years ago and they are still just as good as they were back in the day when I grew up listening to them as a child. 45 now, but, they were still as great those 2-3 years ago. They even had extended jams/improv/sessions on this song and their others...was a great show.
Mr Perfect and Bobby Heenan were the ultimate manager and wrestler combo.
Morning guys! Was looking forward to this one! Great song! Loved seeing you grooving to it!👍❤️🤓fun times!!!
Steve Miller’s song called Your Cash Ain’t Nothing But Trash deserves a listen to!
I'll never forget grocery shopping, my now 31 year old son was 3. In the cart. Singing , I'm a Joker, I'm a smoker........ 😂😆
Probably the chillest song ever recorded
Toke is specifically used for taking a puff of a weed or tobacco cigarette, mostly used in reference to weed. Great song, Hollywood and Smokey!
This song says to me I may be a lot of things but I am faithful.
I just woke and toked to this 😆.
I love to see you guys rocking out! 💗💗💗
This is 20 years before Chili Peps!
Steve is a master blues rock guitarist whose mentor was Les Paul. THAT Les Paul.
Has anyone ever mentioned to you, Smokey, that you look very much like Laurence Fishburne? Shine on you two! Love your channel...
Roflmfao!! Yyeeessss! This is such an awesome song! Nice singin, y'all! Now I'm getting on a plane to California, but P.L.U.R.R. from ATX!!
One for us oldies 😜I have a very eclectic taste In music. I got my 39 year old son into Steve Miller and he got me into drum n bass 😂
This song was so popular in the 70s. Especially from my town kearny nj. Always that about weed. Lol great reaction
if you get a chance could you please check out- Steppenwolf -Born To Be Wild. Thank You🙂
I guess he references past songs in many of his songs. In the verse with "Maurice" the references are : Space Cowboy from 1969, Gangster of Love fromm 1968 and Enter Maurice from 1972.
Bringing back great memories ♥️ & times... Smoking My Herb Now💚
That environment of musicians hanging out and jamming will soon be a short drive up to Mayretta in the new live music soundstage currently being constructed at my place. Would love to have y'all up for the inaugural jam stream. Will keep you posted.
I believe the word "toke" originated from Alice B Toklas who was a character in a book by the author Gertrude Stein, who was a contemporary of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Check it out.
Another song kinda similar to this with a killer bassline is : David Essex - Rock On . A killer 1 hit wonder from the same year here as the "Joker" 1973
Steve Miller Band "The Window",, "Mercury Blues" & "Winter Time"
One tune you guys absolutely must do is the live performance of Metallica Disposable Heroes in Mexico. I know you've done the studio version but the live performance is beyond description. It will blow you away.
🤐 that is some kick butt classic rock right there!!!!
Les Paul was Steve’s God Father. He was playing his guitars before anyone else. I’ve been to 100+shows and the 2 S Miller shows were in the top 5 and they were 30 yrs apart.
Such a classic Steve Miller song! He's definitely in an easy listening, folk and blues genre. Favorite song, hands down is "I Want to Make the World Turn Around" it's super underrated imo. 💗
Steve Miller Band songs:
Fly Like an Eagle, Jungle Love, Rock'n Me, Swingtown, Jet Airliner, Take the Money and Run, Winter Time and Abracadabra.
Metal Church Metal Church man!!!!!!🤟
This is a token of my appreciation
Yall are definitely part of my routine. Rock out with your socks out lol
Jet Airliner, Rockin' Me, Abracadabra....the list could go on and on lol...😁
Love this song! It’s been awhile though. I always thought toke was the opposite of stoke. You know how you blow air to stoke a fire? Well, you suck air to toke a fire. 😂😂😂 This song is just love song. About a groovy guy. 😂
Love this song, but really love "Abracadabra", and "Jetliner".
Steve Miller has a Beautiful voice listen to Never Kill Another Man, Seasons and Kow Kow
Ohhhh so this is the song Hyde always talked about in the 70s show.
Love your show! You really should tap into some earlier Steve Miller, the "Anthology" album. 1966 - 1976. My Favorite Album! To me some of his best most creative music. More raw , more bluesy, but still super catchy, like most Steve Miller tunes. He was a Pioneer.
Try:
1. Livin in the USA
2. Space Cowboy
3. Goin to the Country
4. Babys House
Thanks
If you guys need something that hits every genre check out Hungry Lights. The song is reflaugh. Ot just blew my mind what this guy can do. He is the lead singer of a the band Tallah. Definitely will not be disappointed.
Steve has a good heart. The story I heard of jet airliner. It's written by Paul Pena, very blues guitar and soul driven. But Paul got screwed by his label. Steve so covered it, made it a simple hit. Those royalties help Paul during tough times.
They low-key have some bangers
He learned how to play guitar from Les Paul! He’s got quite a history!
Pure classic rock
I was 9 when this was out on the radio all the time!!! Something about peaches 🍑 and trees 🌳 that that I liked about the song!! Not sure if I knew what that meant!!
This is just classic rock genre
We said we needed a " toke" back in the 70s. It always meant a hit off a joint
Speaking of road trip music, I have certain songs I like specifically for a road trip or for cruising PCH in Southern CA. PCH = Pacific Coast Hwy, a highway that is along the coast near the ocean.
Hit PCH to Santa Cruz! Love that road
Lord of the rings was written by Tolkien
Ok .... Keep On Rockin' by Steve Miller.
As far as the word tokin' is concerned, tokin' is tokin', and it aint nuthin' but tokin'. You might be one toke over the line in a downtown railway station, or smokin' and tokin' in Boston, it always and only means one thing. As Charlie Daniels once said:
"...A drunkard wants another drink of wine
and a politician wants a vote,
I don't want much of nuthin' at all
but I will take another toke..."
Don't call me Maurice, it's MORRIS!
🤣🤣🤣

Great band!!
Steve Miller is his real name, the singer and the name of the band.
Toke comes from Spanish word tocar meaning touch , tap, hit or get a share of.
