Depends on available options. Today was above freezing outside where I am, so I went to the local pay and spray to pressure wash the salt and crud off, then went home and in the garage used a rinse less wash to actually wash, then some spray wax as I dried. It may not be perfect, but for a warm winter day, is good to at least get it clean and add some protection.

Yay, finally someone is recommending rinsing of dirty brushes before dunking them in the clean bucket, so as not to cross-contaminate! I found it better to Iron X the wheels before shampooing them. This ensures Iron X gets neutralized and its complete removal, as I found it stubborn to remove and smelly most of the time.
If only I’d have found this channel 5 years ago. My wheels are wrecked paint wise. Never knew about ph neutral tire cleaner. My factory painted wheels and calipers have oxidized and refinish is $600 bucks. Spend the extra money boys, cuz a dollar saved just might cost you a small fortune. Lesson learned.
This is basically the method I use too. I was curious about using Iron X after cleaning with break buster. Now I see that most of the iron removed was from the rotor there was still some left on the wheel. Since my wheels are not ceramic coated I will incorporate using Iron X every several weeks. By the way I use Iron X twice a year to do a full chemical decontamination, once in Spring and once in the Fall. Thanks for the video as I learned that using just break buster, as good as it is, needs a little help in fully cleaning the wheels 👍✌️
Thanks! Brake Buster doesn't contain iron removing chemicals, although it will help dislodge looser brake dust particles if applied regularly, but yes, you still need to use an iron remover every month or so. I just like to stay on top of things. ;)

Hi Pan Thanks for a great video. I have a few questions: 1. Don't you clay your alloys before adding protectant? 2. Why do you rinse your wheels before adding chemistry? Keep it up!
I saw the tumbnail and thought for a moment you painted the calliper blue. Turns out it was already blue but covered up in some winter dirt. Nice job👌🏼 I'm still looking for a nice wheel cleaner. I used something from a local detailshop, I used Sonax. If this bottle is empty I give P&S Brake Buster a try. Especially in a gallon it's priced very interesting. Around €30/gallon.
I love those hex grips. I apply a dressing on it, make a swipe or two around the tire then turn the grip and make another swipe or two. Turning it changes the contact points when it touches the tire. Maybe its not necessary but I feel turning it allows for more surface area coverage.

Hello Pan. I am an American, middle-aged, woman who just recently purchased her 1st car EVER! It was super clean when I bought it, and I intend to keep it that way. So, I searched on UA-cam for car detailing videos and came across some of yours. So far, the toughest cleaning challenge for me has been has been getting my '18-inch Continental tires really clean. Got some Purple Power for the tires and Super Clean for the rims. Those 2 products should get me the results that I want. Plus, they're within my budget! @@PanTheOrganizer
Congrats on your new car. That's always a fun moment. Super Clean and Purple Power are powerful cleaner/degreasers and not always suited for automotive use. Be very careful. A better option is to use a quality auto grade wheel & tire cleaner. See a video I made about my favourite ones here: ua-cam.com/video/jfYZh1qB1LY/v-deo.htmlsi=6aRtzJr0ALecrqpY Also keep in mind that a new car is never new until it's properly detailed. - at the factory, the paint defects are often corrected quickly by rotary polishing which can leave marks and holograms, so polishing corrects those, before you lock that in long term with a ceramic coating for example. - vehicles are then transported by truck, train and boat so they are exposed to the elements, industrial fallout, brake dust, rail dust, etc - vehicles are often left at boat docks (when transported by boat) or in exterior parking lots for weeks or months, again being exposed to the elements - at the dealership, the vehicles are almost always poorly prepped using the same dirty water that was used for all the cars on a given day, and poor washing and drying methods leading to swirls and scratches - at the dealership, a layer of cheap wax or paint sealant is usually applied to attempt to make the paint glossy prior to delivery. It's crucial to remove any previous protection before you apply a ceramic coating, as coatings need to bond directly to a virgin clear coat. If you only plan on applying a regular carnauba wax or paint sealant though, you could decide to skip machine polishing, as those protectants can be applied over existing protection and it's not as crucial to prep the paint as well. I explain all of this in this popular video: ua-cam.com/video/QgoyrC-5CMc/v-deo.html So you can better visualize the new car prep process, here are the steps I perform on a brand new car for my customers: RS6 Avant Performance: ua-cam.com/video/L5SQ0ZIJCj0/v-deo.htmlsi=mcQiMs9HBLlaqjGK Mercedes S 580: ua-cam.com/video/Vq_tfcwryVI/v-deo.htmlsi=whord2_UEFSg28UW Aston Martin Vantage: ua-cam.com/video/OKga3yZVTqo/v-deo.html Volvo XC60: ua-cam.com/video/tvDBBenhYFA/v-deo.html Tesla Model Y: ua-cam.com/video/gohks8xP5NY/v-deo.html Porsche 911 Carrera: ua-cam.com/video/2ckiivbFqs4/v-deo.html Audi Q7: ua-cam.com/video/t7HCBSVnizM/v-deo.html

Thanks for watching!
Nice video. I also use a lug nut brush which loosens brake dust and dirt from the lug nuts and their sleeves.
Thanks!
I just like to stay on top of things. ;)

See a video I made about my favourite ones here: ua-cam.com/video/jfYZh1qB1LY/v-deo.htmlsi=6aRtzJr0ALecrqpY
Also keep in mind that a new car is never new until it's properly detailed.
- at the factory, the paint defects are often corrected quickly by rotary polishing which can leave marks and holograms, so polishing corrects those, before you lock that in long term with a ceramic coating for example.
- vehicles are then transported by truck, train and boat so they are exposed to the elements, industrial fallout, brake dust, rail dust, etc
- vehicles are often left at boat docks (when transported by boat) or in exterior parking lots for weeks or months, again being exposed to the elements
- at the dealership, the vehicles are almost always poorly prepped using the same dirty water that was used for all the cars on a given day, and poor washing and drying methods leading to swirls and scratches
- at the dealership, a layer of cheap wax or paint sealant is usually applied to attempt to make the paint glossy prior to delivery.
I explain all of this in this popular video: ua-cam.com/video/QgoyrC-5CMc/v-deo.html
So you can better visualize the new car prep process, here are the steps I perform on a brand new car for my customers:
RS6 Avant Performance: ua-cam.com/video/L5SQ0ZIJCj0/v-deo.htmlsi=mcQiMs9HBLlaqjGK

Btw, it's very difficult for some of us to do carwash in our part of world because we don't have personal space, nor power outlet n pressure water are those $1 /time-activated types, n it last for 5mins spray so it's a waste of $ and time, imagine you need to rinse few times on just one wheel, but for love of cars n detailing discipline, we"LL just have to cope, unless we have our own land, which will set us back for $3million for a 1/3 of an acre.

Yes, that "flash rust" is normal on steel brakes after washing a car. Preventing it is actually quite simple, right after you are done with the final rinse, while the vehicle is still wet, you use this product: bit.ly/40ZcA5D
