Gosh, she was so young for this performance! Anyone who saw this performance knew they were looking at a future SuperStar. RIP Whitney and RIP Mama Cissy Houston.
Even at such a young age she was so confident in her skill that she added her own interpretation to the song vs mimicking how her predecessors sang it. So wonderful.
Nice the way you looked into the lyrics. I never thought of it like that but it make total sense when comparing it to her life story. She often talked about how she felt old already at 30, like she had lived a life of rushing and been around the world yay yay yay. Just wishing she could slow down and just be normal. "Just maybe I can concince time to slow up, giving me enough time in my life to grow up". Probably excactly what she needed.
She looks so similar and even sounds a little similar to her cousin Dionne Warwick at this age. RIP to her mother the great Cissy Houston. Cissy's first cousin is the opera great Leontyne Price, the talent that runs through that family's genes is amazing.
Love that this song is about a place, but within us, like home is actually a state of being. Such a beautiful song and growing up with amazing talent like Whitney's while they were in their prime is absolutely insane to think about, lovely reaction.
Actually, after this performance, Whitney would go on to appear on an episode of "Gimme A Break!" and she had a contract to play a role on what would become the highest rated television show of the 1980s but she declined it because she was in the process of finishing up her debut album. That role that she had was the role of Sondra Huxtable on "The Cosby Show." She had it all. Beautiful and that voice!!! Why I feel in love with her the first time I heard on the radio "You Give Good Love" in the spring of 1985, when I was 13 years old.
Great review! In particular, I really enjoyed your lyrical breakdown and interpretation of the song! It definitely provided some great insight and perspective to engage with. Whitney's vocal performances, no matter how often I listen to her, still give me chills and have an affect on me.
Please keep reacting to Whitney. I know that personal tastes are arguable but, for me she is the Voice of all marvelous female voices. I love Barbra, I love Celine, I love Mariah, I love Dionne Warwick, I love Aretha Franklin, I love Gladys Knight, I love Karen Carpenter, I love Agnetha and Frida from ABBA, I love Tina Turner and, other female vocalists that I don't remember now. But, Whitney is the BEST. Please check: star spangle banner, one moment in time, run to you, the greatest love of all, I have nothing, I will always love you, the duet with her and mariah carey when you believe and, much more. And she is so beautiful and elegant. RIP dear Whitney. Big kiss. Ana
I see many legendary names that i want to get to eventually on this channel. And definitely want to explore more of Whitney Houston's music as well. What a voice! Thanks for watching!
She was literally anointed by God to sing. To praise Him and that’s what she did. She got lost in extreme darkness in the haze of all the drugs and money around her but I believe she is Home now and she is free. Wow. And great reaction
You can react the official videos but, the live performances are for dying for. And she sings magnificently but so effortless, I don't understand how she breathes. Please check Gladys Knight and the pips with midnight train to georgia, a live performance from 1974.
You can see her Mom Cissy (who passed away yesterday 10/7/24 RIP) leading the band in the background. She took over because the band wasn’t playing up to the tempo of the song.
the song was from "the wiz", a 70's broadway show starring stephanie mills, a young, tiny dynamo, in the lead role. stephanie went on to a successful singing career on her own. her rendition of this song at such a young age will astound. ...just sayin'.
Yes, and The Wiz was an urban version (Black) of the Wizard of Oz. So this song is Dorothy singing of wanting to return home from OZ. ("there's no place like home") Diana Ross sings it longingly - much more rushed and urgent - with swirling strings - live at Caesar's Palace. She's gorgeous and underrated. Yes, Stephanie Mills, the star of the Broadway cast sang it like a legend at the Apollo. Amazing. Kristin Chenoweth sang a great version on Glee too. Don't judge it without listening.....It's a beautiful song. And of course, many years later and with her struggles emerging - Whitney gave a majestic mature performance of Home, in South Africa for Mandela.
Saeed, sorry to bother again but, i've been checking, and for gladys knight in 1974 are more than one, i like the one she is wearing a white dress. She's so cute and with a Voice For Whitney, if you decide react the duet with mariah carey, please do the official video (it was the soundtrack for the prince of egypt). If you decide to do one moment in time live I recommend Grammy 1989. Of you do i have nothing live, I'll say billboard 1993. If you do the greatest love of all live, arista records 1990. But the official videos are great too.
Ah, and her star spangle banner is still consider the best rendition of the national anthem. Normally, people say that the rendition of Chris Stappleton is awesome but still n 2. And Whitney was 20 or 21 in that performance.
Hola. He buscado en tus videos alguna reacción mas a Diana Navarro y no he visto ninguna. Podrías reaccionar a Mónica Naranjo,Rocio Jurado....me encantaría. Gracias
IT'S WHITNEY, SO OF COURSE IT'S AMAZING, HOWEVER, WHEN IT COMES TO THIS SONG, IT BELONGS TO STEPHANIE MILLS! ua-cam.com/video/cnKQN7TF4hQ/v-deo.htmlsi=eZw_NvuCoy5KffDK
What a young Whitney! That beautiful, flawless voice! Thanks for reacting to this, and thanks to the person who requested it.

So much packed into a young life already. Truly a beautiful song.

Merv started Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. He had a talk show for years. Often times featuring new talent.
Whitney was still 19 years old at this time. Her birthday is August 9th, this show was in June.

Happy that the copyright issues were finally resolved.
This song definitely will always belong to Stephanie Mills, but there is no denying the spark of brilliance this early in Whitney’s career. 🤍
Tenía un espíritu especial para cantar

Please react to Whitney's live version of A Song For You ❤ beyond incredible
You can not learn that. You have it or you don’t!
