Thank you for a nice shout-out, but especially because you have decided to continue exploring this true ocean of good music, created and performed by Nightwish in already more than a quarter of a century of activity. Of course, you have a new subscriber here. All the best, from Romania!
Our pleasure Gabriel. Would you be open to joining us for a livestream reaction sometime? Would be great to have you on screen with us to answer questions while checking out a favorite Nightwish song or two of yours.
Thank God you appeared, Gabriel! Otherwise, Richard was in danger to think that in Romania there are only crazy people like me (I think that he already considers me the Romanian version of the “Chinese Water Torture")! Glad to have you in our Thronly Family, Gabriel!
Tarja is a flawless Christine, but she is the same Christine as basically everyone else. Marko is a COMPLETLY DIFFERENT take on Phantom than basically anyone else. As they talked about in the video, most people play that character as the disfigured gentleman, helping Christine reach heights his misfortune has unjustly denied him. Marko on the other hand, plays him as a barely concealed DEMON to which Christine has sold her soul.
@@grantharriman284Tarja's Christine is actually very different from the original. And nothing like any other TBH. Her interpretation is darker and more intimidating than any other Christine in mainstream media.
Marko's high note towards the end was a G5, Tarja of course was D6. If you want to hear Marko at his best react to Nightwish's rendition of Pink Floyd's High Hopes from this same show. His tone and power throughout his range is utterly unbelievable
Marko is a legend and one of the pioneers in Finnish Metal genre. He co-founded his first band with his brother in the early 80's and has been involved ever since even though he parted ways with Nightwish a few years ago.
At first, Nightwish was intended to be a Folk Music band... Because of Tarja voice, Tuomas had to rethink his songwriting and this resulted in the "Nightwish" style that we know.
@@throga That's right. Their first demo recorded in 1996 consists of three acoustic songs with flute. Tuomas originally envisioned a band with an acoustic sound with flutes and keyboards. But he quickly realized that Tarja's voice was high, powerful, too dramatic and pretentious for folk music.
@@throga Tuomas still ended up having his side project Auri for that, tho, with his wifey Johanna, and Nightwish's multi instrumentalist Troy whom you'll hear up front if you do Harvest and all through out the more folk oriented songs like I Want My Tears Back, My Walden, and at the end of Perfume of the Timeless. I don't know if there are any lives of Auri, I think they're mostly a studio project. Johanna may have lives of her own. She sounds really fairy enchantress ish like Anette does :)
Some Nighwish songs also contain references to those early days with Tuomas, Tarja and Emppu sitting around campfire singing and playing guitar. The Nightwish origins. 'On the shore we sat and hoped Under the same pale moon Whose guiding light chose you Chose you all' -Poet and the Pendulum
This song is a great introduction to both the first singer, Tarja Turunen and the bassist/male vocalist, Marko Hietala. Tarja was a magnificent singer, and helped the band gain popularity. Marko has a long history in metal, going back before Nightwish with his own band, Tarot. He is loved and respected in Finland as one of the founders of metal in that country. Finland, by the way, has more metal bands per capita than any other country in the world. Marko is now no longer with the band, but he left us with almost 20 years of great music, partnering with all three female singers. To hear what he really is capable of, I suggest the Nightwish tribute to Pink Floyd's great "High Hopes" from this same End of an Era 2005 DVD. This concert was the last that Tarja performed in. She was fired after it was over. The guys all knew it was going to happen but she didn't. It was a difficult time for the band and there is a complicated story that is much too long to go into here. There is lots on line about that time and it really does help to research it a bit, if you're going to do a deep dive into Nightwish. Oh, by the way, Marko's high note in Phantom was mechanically tested at one time. It was a G5.
His name is Marko Hietala❤ awesome singer and base player 🤘🤘check High Hopes from the same concert. A tribute to Pink Floyd and Marko singing....and the whole band 🤘❤❤ thanks for your great reaction 😄 Greetings from Finland, the birthplace of Nightwish 🤗
Wow. Loved your reaction. If you want to hear more of Marko's psychotic side I think you'd have fun with "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" live 2018 from Buenos Aires (with Floor)
That was perfection!!!! Definitely this is how the Phantom of the Opera should have meant to be!!! This is cathartic as listening to Disturb's rendition of the Sound of Silence!!!
I just love both Tarja and Marko! They compliment each other so well! This was the golden age of Nightwish for me. 😢 Luckily, they have now found each other again and I got to hear the phantom live last summer. It was magical! People were crying in the audience!
You should check out the entire concert "End of an Era". I think it can be found on YT. Also the entire concert "From Whishes to Eternity" can be found for most of the Tarja period. From what I understand, Tarja trained in opera techniques to protect her voice while the band members were in military conscription and the whole sound of the band had to change. If you see some of the very early videos they all have short hair while very young (Sacrament of the Wilderness, and Gethsemane) .
How about just "Come for Nightwish and the song". IMO, the magic comes from the contrast of these two different, wonderful voices + instruments around them.
When Tarja and Marko combine their amazing vocals it creates pure magic!!! Neither of them are with the band now but they have reconnected and are touring together. Marko put out a song which ft. Tarja called "Left on Mars" if you would like to check it out. As for their time with NW, try "The Siren" and "Slaying the Dreamer" live from End of an Era
Floor is my forever Valkyrie Queen but Taria is exceptional too. Every Nightwish singer (female or male) brings something unique to the table and wecall are blessed with their magic trough Tuomas compositions and the whole wonder that Nightwish is. My all time favorites: Seven days to the wolves (live at Wembley) Dark chest of wonders (Wacken) Of course "the poet and the Pendulum" " (Wembley) and "greatest show on earth " (Tampere) But actually every live performance is awesome so enjoy the ride. Greets from nightwish army member from west Germany 😊
Please watch Kang HyungHo of Forestella sang this song alone! He said he was inspired from NightWish version and nailed it awesomely. I recommend his ultimate latest version in Immortal Songs with pianist Oh EunChul. Kang HyungHo got his nickname Chri from his first appearance on air with this song on Phantom Singer 2 first episode, because the female character of this duet was Christine. Also check NightWish's Wishmaster and Kang HyungHo's cover, please. I think you will love it!
Thank you!! This was a really interesting reaction! I hope you react to more Nightwish with all of the singers🥰 Tarja and Marko (the other singer and bassist here) are actually touring together this and next year. Which is so exciting!
Yeah, that's the bassist of the band 😂 Actually he was since he sadly departed couple of years ago, but he stayed for 20 years so he did a good amount of great singing and playing. With both out of Nighwish now they are currently touring together for their solo careers and recorded a new song together too They've always sounded great together

A great suggestion to do next if you have listened to both Floor and Tarja is a double reaction to Everdream. (Floor live at Waken, Tarja on the 'End of an Era's tour). A great way to see this brilliant song performed by both singers!
Loved watching your faces! Largely because of Marko's monstrous version of the Phantom, this is my favourite rendition - glad you talked about that a bit. All three female singers are great too, in different ways; the biggest contast is between Tarja and Anette but Floor is the "Dutch Army Knife" of voice and can cover both her predecessors' songs (even though Tuomas always wrote to the current vocalists' strengths when he had enough notice). Enjoy the rabbithole...
Tarja is the most operatic of their singers, Annette is the least operatic, but she sang my favorite song Amaranthe, and Floor is the mix of them both. Best of both worlds in my opinion. I love the music video for Amaranthe. Great reaction guys.
This will probably get lost in the sea of comments but knowing you guys both love musical theater, I want to suggest Epica!! They’re another symphonic metal band that actually tends to go darker and harder than Nightwish, but the reason I think you’d like it is their vocalist, Simone Simons. She’s classically trained like Tarja and Floor but the way she’s adapted her style draws SO much from musical theater singing. Her diction and projection are incredible! I’ll recommend two songs from their recent online concert Omega Alive, on the off chance you see this: Unchain Utopia and Rivers (a capella) Thanks for reacting to one of the most iconic performances EVER!! Nightwish’s history is very special, and Tarja and Marko are both such one-of-a-kind singers.
Buenísima reacción! Sigan!!! Tarja canto muchas canciones con Marko y ahora cantan por su cuenta, ya que Marko también dejo la banda😢 saludos de Argentina cynthia
You guys have to react to The Siren from the same concert, not many people react to that but for me it is always the single best song of nightwish(besides their very long songs).
If I remember right was this Tarjas last show. She got a letter after the show, and told to open it in the morning. And yes Marko the bass player is amazing. We miss him alot, becuse he left earler this year.
This is one of my new favorite reactions of yours. I love your enthusiasm haha! 😁 About pausing the video to talk, I’ve watched this performance a ton of times at this point, and I’m more interested to hear what you have to say about it. I can only speak for myself here but I imagine most people watching this are in a similar situation. So please don’t worry about pausing a lot!
If you pause, I recommend jumping back a few seconds before continuing the song so that it doesn't break the flow and you don't miss any transitions. People tend to pause between sections and often there is a key change or tempo change or similar that goes unnoticed and it's a shame. That being said, we're all here for the commentary and expertise. Thank you for sharing your knowledge guys.
Oh, if only you knew how good young Nightwish are...) Swanheart, Beauty of (and AND) the beast, Dead boy's poem, Sleeping sun, Two for tragedy, Ever dream, Ocean soul.... I can repeat it endlessly 😹 I love re-watching their old lives and I especially love their sound with Tarja. It's more than just objectively beautiful vocals from a band that you turn on on your way home, it's the sound that you consciously want to listen to again to find yourself in some fantasy world of dark fantasy.)
That is Marco as you probably read by now. He is a phenomenal vocalist. He won Finland’s mass singer in 2022. He can sing anything from Elton John to Backstreet Boys to Pink Floyd. He goes all over the board ballots hard stuff. He is super talented and just for your information if you hadn’t heard this yet you mentioned Sabatonfloor, the current singer is married to the drummer of Sabaton
ALL hale the REAL TRUE QUEEN 👑 of NIGHTWISH and of ALL FEMALE SYMPHONIC METAL SINGERS!!!, the very beautiful looking and very unique voice of the enchanting TARJA!!!😀👍👍🤘
Hi, I love your reactions. When you ask in the reaction of Nightwish's "Ghost Love Score" "Who watches this channel?". I can simply quote Taylor Swift: "It's me, HI!" Please react to Floor and Henk doing the Phantom of the opera at beste zangers. Another reaction I'd love to hear and see of you would be "AYREON - The Day the World breaks down" There's a genius Live-Version, but I recommend the official Video (first)! Go on, make me smile, make me learn.... You're great.
Nice to see you guys continuing the Nightwish journey! There is also a very recent live version of this song, performed by Nightwish with Floor ft. Henk Poort. If you listen to older versions of their most famous songs, performed by Tarja and later by Anette, it becomes clear how the band and the music have evolved. There is no doubt that each singer has added her own personal touch to the music. All three are great singers, but in my opinion Floor fits best with the style Tuomas envisioned for his music. Anette is the most underrated of the three, which I think is a bit of a shame, she's also a very good singer and still successful with her solo career. She brought some very interesting elements to the older songs, her stage performance was a little lacking, but she's a great studio musician, that's where her voice shines the most in my opinion. If you listen to the album versions they recorded, they are great!
Enjoyed the reaction! Tarja was formally trained in the Lied or art song classical style at the at the music academy Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. She was fired by the band right after this concert via an open letter (Available on the internet). As you can imagine this created a huge controversy and the big Nightwish fan base at the time blamed Tuomas for what many perceived as the end of their beloved band. It is a whole thing in the Nightwish lore. Marko was supposed to have said after the show Thank God I"ll never have to sing that damned song again. Funny thing is that since Marko left the band in 2021they have made up and performed together on stage including Phantom. While a popular song, this is not my favorite Tarja Nightwish song. The Siren from this same concert, Planet Hell, Nemo, Bless the Child, Sleeping Sun, Forever Yours are better showcases for her voice. As other have mentioned you should checkout Floor and Henk Poort singing Phantom. Henk was the original Phantom in the Dutch stage production and Floor saw him perform as a teenager and is a huge fan. Their performance on the Dutch singing show Beste Zangers is my favorite "Nightwish" Phantom performance (Nightwish isn't there but the house band uses the Nightwish arrangement). Floor's vocal colorings and runs are outstanding. Floor and Henk also did a version of Dangerous Game from Jekyl and Hyde that is fantastic. Either the music video they did during the pandemic or their live performance from Floor's 2021 Amsterdam solo show. Both are on Floor's YT channel.
This is the best version for me.Tarja s golden era .For something heavy react please to the Kinslayer from the Wishes to Eternity concert dvd.For an angelic voice the Deep silent complete from the same concert. Two different sides of Tarja.Greetings from Greece❤😊
And since were touching on the subject of Marco, if you wanna really see some of his vocal ability, I think it’s the same concert. They kind of did a tribute to Pink Floyd high hopes and it’s just him was an amazing. Amazing song.
Please look at “Shoemaker” live performance from The Hellfest in 2022. Floor considered it to be the most difficult song for her to sing (up to date), and she of course, knock it out of the park. Many have considered the ending of the song to be the most “epic ending” of all Nightwish’s songs. Thank you.
Nighwish has all kinds of songs to offer. My favorite song from Tarja is Sleeping Sun, slow and haunting. Floor is incredible and just right for NW. They have grown together over the years as a band just released a new album last month. They unfortunately will not tour for a while due to personal reasons. Btw. Pause the music to talk, I could barely hear you talk during the music.
Tarja Turunem is a amazing singer. To see what she really can do, you could react to other songs of this show End of a Era like Wishmaster or Slaying the Dreamer, actually all the songs of this show are epic you can choice anyone 😂.
Awsome reaction. If you are looking to expand in your symphonic metal journey. I would love to suggest Epica-"Unleashed". The live at retrospect version.
Even ALW likes this version. You should check more of Tarja's work like the cover of Muse's Supremacy or her performance at the metal Church at Wacken (yes this a real place)
Too hear some musical theater style Nightwish original music with Floor, check out "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" live from Buenos Aires 2018. It should be in Gabriel's list. BTW, Floor has had some musical theater training. It shows in how she tells the story of the songs she performs.
This happened even before you realize. In the 70's Renaissance led by Annie Haslam blended rock, classical and jazz together. Look for BBC YT of Ashes are Burning. Annie is a perfect match for Floor's range and power.
I think Storytime and Ever Dream from Wacken 2013 could be something you both like. All singers have contributed something special to the band and we wouldn't have gotten the music that we have without that journey. So I am thankful for all of them. If you ever check out Annette, I recommend studio versions/music videos, as good quality live videos are few.
Thank You for a great reaction! Please check out Tommy Johansson and his version of Phantom of the opera, fantastic Swedish singer and he also plays all the instruments 😊
I mean, now you HAVE to go Floor and Hank Poorts version of Phantom. There are two. One with Nightwish, but the first time they performed together was on the Show Best Zangers, which every episode of that season is worth reacting to. But they do the finally.

If I remember right was this Tarjas last show. She got a letter after the show, and told to open it in the morning.
And yes Marko the bass player is amazing. We miss him alot, becuse he left earler this year.
He left Nightwish during their previous album (Human][Nature) back in early 2021 - as I recall.
Agree 100%. I believe a lot of us know this performance by heart.
I can simply quote Taylor Swift: "It's me, HI!"
Please react to Floor and Henk doing the Phantom of the opera at beste zangers.
An emotional ballad Marco has composed is Higher than hope from the album Once.Tuomas has written the lyrics😊
Nightwish End Of An Konsert Helsinki Finland. Kiitos.
Haha they blew the roof off it didn't they? I love it when Marco sings in a Nightwish song.
Deep Silent Complete is amazing at that show!
I gave an upvote for the simple reason that I just heard you namedropped Jon Oliva and Savatage
Great great ❤ please react to Tarja - Innocence ( live Circus Life)
Check out the duet of Floor with Henk Poort, the original dutch Phantom. He was ALWs favourite phantom.
The Nightwish arrangement is the best!!
Loved your reaction🤘🇫🇮
Metal Hammer magazine picked 2 Nightwish songs in top100 best metal covers in history. This and High Hopes (from Pink Floyd) are pure spectacle.
If you are a Jon Oliva fan, you should check out the Avantasia song “Death is Just a Feeling”, where he is the guest vocalist. A really creepy song.
And since were touching on the subject of Marco, if you wanna really see some of his vocal ability, I think it’s the same concert. They kind of did a tribute to Pink Floyd high hopes and it’s just him was an amazing. Amazing song.
20 yers ago, Marco Hietala bass mannen and Tarja Turunen original Nightwish singer❤
Please look at “Shoemaker” live performance from The Hellfest in 2022.
Floor considered it to be the most difficult song for her to sing (up to date), and she of course, knock it out of the park.
Many have considered the ending of the song to be the most “epic ending” of all Nightwish’s songs.
Thank you.
I've seen three different Nightwish / Floor versions of this 'Phantom' already. 😎
Yes theese two songs are fire !!!
You have to do one with Nemo or over the hills and far away with Tarja.
Nigthwish with Tarja is a whole other dimension.
Now TARJA SOLO is my PASSION !!!!!!!!!!!! ☮☮💘💘💥💥
Amazing that TARJA was ill for this ☮☮💘💘☮☮💘💘
This happened even before you realize. In the 70's Renaissance led by Annie Haslam blended rock, classical and jazz together. Look for BBC YT of Ashes are Burning. Annie is a perfect match for Floor's range and power.
New sub. Marco is involved in a couple of other groups, as is Tuomas.
Finally, good music. I also ask for a reaction to the Epica and Arch Enemy team
You need to check out the Floor version. She sings with the original Dutch Phantom Henk Port as Marko had left the band.
*Anette, sorry
Tarja turunen a primeira vocalista do grupo.
Thank You for a great reaction! Please check out Tommy Johansson and his version of Phantom of the opera, fantastic Swedish singer and he also plays all the instruments 😊
Like it more when floor singing this song❤
I mean, now you HAVE to go Floor and Hank Poorts version of Phantom. There are two. One with Nightwish, but the first time they performed together was on the Show Best Zangers, which every episode of that season is worth reacting to. But they do the finally.
