The rationale for building ships you give at the start is pretty spot-on.
I used to do some work with experimental additive manufacturing back in the day, and we had an opportunity to work with the ISS on a third-party research program (nothing ended up maturing from it, but the opportunity was superb all the same). I remember when we were going through some design concepts for what we wanted to build and it was remarked that for the first time in human history, man did not have to design some device with the inherent strength to support itself, nor design any structure that had to sustain its own mass before even considering any applied load.
That may seem like a small distinction, but in the scheme of weight-savings and design efficiency--especially for high-end aerospace applications--that is a huge difference. So not are you able to save fuel by not having to ascend into orbit, but the core makeup of your design can be inherently more efficient. I can tell you though, as an Engineer the very idea of microgravity constructions and fabrication of all mechanical things in 0-G makes me giddy with excitement.

    Story:
FSB Record - Personal Diary of Yuri Borisov - Director General Roscosmos 02 May 2023
I was never exactly a favourite of our former president, and especially not after I resigned from his cabinet. Our great country has always had some issues with regime change and I was at first skeptical of our new government. I must say I was sorely mistaken! When I was made director I assumed it would be to oversee the slow agonising death of the once mighty space program. No money, and worse no vital parts from the west was choking us. All this has changed now of course and I was thrilled. But not as thrilled as I was this week. We are to launch a new orbital station. Not just a mere copy of the ISS or a pale imitation of Mir but something of grand ambition, a geosynchronous shipyard! Never in my wildest dreams did I think of such a thing being even considered. Soon Baikonur will be thundering into life once more. I must temper my excitement. Our purpose is beyond mere national glory. It is vital to the survival of our species.

Everyone in mission control got a chance to name our first foothold into space. We all put our suggestions into a hat, and the Mission Lead nominated one of the interns the honour of picking out the winner.
She reached into the hat and pulled out a folded piece of paper. The room was silent. The intern handed the slip to the Mission Lead. He unfolded it and announced: "Molly... Wait, Molly?"
One of the technicians nervously stuck his hand up. "She was my dog sir, passed away about a month ago." Another moment's silence.
"Molly it is then." The Mission Lead said, a warm smile on his face. And sure enough, a month later, we launched the first module of Molly Station. The mission patches were great, a winged dog with a halo over her head, chasing a flying saucer 'frisbee' across the stars.
Now we're planning a mining camp on the moon... Office gossip is there's a betting pool running to see whose pet it get's named after. I'm going to die of laughter if the first permanent habitation on Luna gets named after someone's deceased goldfish.

    Story segment
Having grown up in the American desert of Arizona you’d think I’d be used to living in harsh, uninhabitable conditions, but not quite.
Having been contacted by an initiative calling themselves “Humanity First” I was flown to Kazakhstan to help build a solar energy station for their new station, Molly station.
I quite enjoy my work, looking upon the launch site and knowing that the components I create with my hands will soon be helping protect the earth, but even with those thoughts and reassurances the heat doesn’t get much easier to deal with in this damn desert.
“What I would do to get out of this constant heat” I said, “what I would do to help protect earth” I said. Eventually I guess they got tired of me, and launched me to space with the new solar power module!
…as a lowly mechanic to keep the damn thing working, looking over the failures me and my team made on earth and cursing the complexities of this damn thing.
I can’t complain, living in space as a mechanic is a dream, but I can only hope that we can make this station great.. and I can get a better job.

_Look at this precious!_ he thought.
_How beautiful and fragile. Every person i've ever known is down there._
Not that this are many people he reasoned.
_But still....everyone i can possibly know is also down there._
He realised he was talking to himself. First time he was grateful for their bad equipment. Button activated comms are so 2010.
_Our species has to see what i see. This view changes you. You realise what is at risk._
It is a dark forest out here and whoever they were, no alien species that he could think of would take on the titanic task of interstellar travel just for the heck of it.
_What if they can't go back?_
_What if they don't want to?_
He had to pull his eyes off his only home and go back to work. Molly Station won't bolt itself together.

4:40 You wanna build stations in low earth orbit as the labs that you can build there give significant bonuses. And the AIs will try to take all those slots realy quickly. A shipyard in high orbit can be built later, as you can't even build ships yet anyway.
But what you realy shoud do is save up boost for a mine on the moon as that takes like 50

    • @Stealth17Gaming

In the demo low earth orbit has the major advantage that the science labs give additional bonus to the ground. I can remember bonus to finding aliens from the xenos research labs, bonus to persuasion from social science labs. Worth to check out, maybe build an orbital station with a few labs for the bonus you want AFTER your first mining base on the moon. Might be a bit too costly to supply too many stations without mining in space.

Hi there. My name's Robert. I work at the local radio station. The day was like any other, warm and sunny day, us playing chill music to relax to, broken by a weather forecast or local news every hour. I was sitting by my desk, listening to our station as there was nothing else to do. Suddenly, a slight static could have been heard in my headphones, slowly increasing until the music was completly overtaken by it. I tried reconnecting my headphones, but nothing changed. I asked my colleauge, Stephen, who was a techician, what's the reason of that noise. He said he doesn't know, all equipent was in perfect state, and that there was white noise on every station, some TV channels not working as well. He added, that the whole city is affected by that, but because the phones weren't working either, the news from other towns couldn't reach us. We went to our boss' room. After we told him what's happening, he said we have a free day and should go home before anything worse happens. We thanked him and rushed outside. I stopped by my car and reached my hand into my pocket to grab the keys. Suddenly, a big shadow was casted upon me and the entire parking. At first I thought it was a big cloud, but then I remembered a forecast from like 20 minutes ago, saying that the sky is perfectly clean. I looked up and... The thing I saw... It wasn't a cloud. Not a plane. Not even a blimp. It was something that wasn't made by humans. It was like the Star Destroyer from Star wars combined with an aircraft carrier, but at least 5 times wider, 4 times taller and 9 times longer than the one used today. It was black and dark silver, but perhaps it could be its own shadow. I dropped my keys, unable to break eye contact with it. It was just floating in the sky, no sound, not even a slight movement. I was dragged back inside by Stephen. I regained concioussness, as if the... thing was hypnotising me. He brought me a coffee and took to the longue. I let out a deep sigh, drinking the slightly bitter black liquid. I hope my family is safe...

I hope this story is fitting for the beginning of your space station and the beginning of a great story.
My heart is pounding in my chest, as I await the announcement of our soon departure. Even in my wildest dreams would I never have imagined to be granted the honour of being one of the few selected cosmonauts to fly to our new space station, “Molly”.
I didn’t think, that with “[…] keeping earth save from the aliens […]” they intended us to do that from earths orbit. But I guess meeting them in orbit might keep earth saver. Though I don’t quite now how. So I tried to get into the space program for months. Now I’m sitting in my space suit, in a rocket, in Baikonur. Destination: “Molly” a cute name for such a prestigious project. I’ve heard that the actual name was quite different and less recognisable. I’ve heard many stories as to how that name cam to be. I think it had something to do with the dog of some high ranking member of the organisation.
Mission control gets busier as the clock counts down. “3 minutes left before takeoff.” came a message over the comms. My comrades and I each prepare ourself for what will happen next. Each one of us in their own way. Aidos starts humming a quite happy tune, Mariya begins to pray and I close my eyes and take in a deep breath. I let my mind wander and think of what I will leave for a while. My mother and father, my brother and sisters my country and earth and most of all Roskana. At first she refused to let me go, it took ages to convince her. I needed to promise her to come back in one peace. And the organisation promised me to keep her save if not it would have been impossible hard to go. This only proves that this is the right thing to do and that this isn’t for naught.
A crackling comes from the coms and the voice of one of the employees rings out “Ten seconds ‘til takeoff.” I seem to have been deeper in thought then I imagined. I hastily put on my helmet. I did not want to let them wait. My final thoughts go to Roskana before they got overshadowed by the magical words.
    “3,2,1…”

*Story Segment: Dr. John Everett, Boston, Massachusetts, USA*
On the surface, the day seemed just like any other. I performed my morning ritual; sluggishly, I rolled out of bed, relieved myself, showered, shaved, and shambled into my kitchen for my morning coffee. My favorite brew. I opened my laptop, and started sifting through the news feed. The usual trash, someone famous was rude on social media, someone else had a kid and gave them an obnoxious name, speculation on the aliens' intentions. I closed it again, there was nothing good.
Of course, the situation got politicized immediately. Every two-bit pundit with a working brainstem had something to say. The worst were the "Humanity First." Xenophobic extremists, all of them. They'd recently carried out a string of high-profile assassinations. They didn't even deny it. "Collaborators get the bullet, too," was their rallying cry. And they weren't picky on who was considered a collaborator. I was an engineer at MIT, studying a few samples of hull fragments from the craft that crashed in Pakistan. Only, since the recent assassinations, the campus was more of a fortress than a school. We were checked for explosives, weapons, poisons, communication equipment.
I checked my cellphone before leaving, since I could no longer have it with me on campus. I had a new message from a friend of mine, reading, "you aren't going to believe this, look at what the HF terrorists have been up to!" With a link to video. I let it play, and felt my blood run cold. It was a rocket launch. In Baikonur. One of the largest rockets I'd ever seen. It was a new design, and painted on the side, was the bloody hand of Humanity First. "To kill a weed, you must strike it's roots." The caption read. The camera panned across a cheering crowd, and settled on a lone figue standing upon a dias. I vaguely remembered him as some televangelist who moved to Kazakhstan some time ago.
"People of Earth, today, The Movement has made leaps and bounds in our mission to protect Earth from those who would see it exploited by The Outsiders! By the grace and guidance of God, and by the genius he granted us, today we pierce the Heavens with our first ever orbital launch! This is the first of many, I assure you. We will now commence the construction of the first-ever permanent orbital settlement! It will be a shipyard, it will be a base of operations for our continued campaign against The Outsiders, and those who would do their bidding! We will not be enslaved! We will not be broken! We will know victory, and our enemies will know the wrath of God, and they will be consumed in Almighty hellfire! These, friends, are not just words I speak, but premonition. Beware, Collaborators, for your day of reckoning will soon be upon you."
The video ended. I sat down hard. I wanted to quit. To go back to bed an just pretend today didn't exist. But I had work to do. I put my phone down, and I stepped outside into the early morning twilight. It was going to be a long day.

To truly monopolize it, you'd want to take over Ceres, but at this stage in the game the moon is your best bet for water mining, since the moon's lower gravity means it's cheaper boost-wise to ship water off of it to your ships and stations which consume it.

The night was cold, biting whenever the wind blows across the harbor. Our yacht lay all by her lonesome at the pier, an early arrival this tourist season; my and my wife had made sure to get early holidays to beat the rush. I could see a shadow moving in the top windows as I approached, and I smiled at the thought of what she might've cooked for us. I swipe my hand over a sensor by the door connecting the gangway to the yacht, an implant in my hand unlocking it and letting me inside: "Welcome home, Kristine" the automated voice says.
I pull off my jacket and hang it next to the door, and then just as I'm about to call to my wife, the lights go out. Upstairs I hear the faint noise of what sounds like glass breaking. Nervous, I pull my phone up and turn on its flashlight, calling out to ask if something happened. I ascend the stairs to the dining room, where an open door on the opposite end lets in the rumble of the ocean waves and the pale, ghostly moonlight. I turn to walk to the kitchen. Something moves at the edge of my vision, I turn around and a bright white light blinds me. It burns and I scream, I hear heavy footsteps come running at me and it tackles me into the wall. Blinded and with no air in my lungs I slump to the floor, uncertain whether my eyes or my chest hurt the most. I hear the sound of something being dragged across the carpet, the heavy thuds of the footsteps. It doesn't sound like human footsteps, like whatever's making it doesn't have the same number of feet as I. Then only silence follows. I don't know how long I lay there, even after my vision returned to me, forcing myself not to cry for fear that whatever took my wife would come for me as well.

Well, I remember when it happened like it was yesterday. You know how it feels, important things you remember so…. vividly, I think the word is. We got a report from our telescopes in the Ural that something….I guess now we can call it someone, was descending towards Russian Airspace. As via procedure, we immediately saw it as a threat and went on standby, our A-135s armed and ready. Luckily, it was not needed, the ‘missile’ made land contact in Pakistan. That was all I knew, and all my comrades knew for a while…..until now. Thanks to our new…..friends in high command, we now know this was, and I bloody hate I wasn’t told, alien life. Why were we concealed from this fact, which my division is clearly meant to know about?! The good news, however, is that a new group has taken over our structure of command. They call themselves Humanity First, and want to destroy the aliens, at all costs, and i will personally follow them then the cowards which are our government. No matter the cost, national or personal

The train rocks, jolting me awake. I lift my head from the cold window pane and see my wrinkled uniform reflected in the window. I glance out across the dark landscape, sparsely illuminated by lights from farmhouses and villages. Glancing back into the car, my daughter lies across the seat, her head resting on my wife's lap, both peacefully asleep. "A weekend with my parents on the farm will do us some good," my wife told me. I knew she was right. The reports we were getting were worrying me, and she could tell, even though I couldn't say anything. "Just a weekend away," I think to myself, watching a plane slowly approach the runway of an airport in the distance. My heart starts to speed up as I realize the lights on the plane aren't moving any longer. They sit motionless above the airport, until they rapidly rise into the sky and disappear into the clouds. I look back at my family, sleeping peacefully in the train car. "Just a weekend away," I think to myself again, before shaking my wife awake.

Yeah, the issue of not being able to see where your meeple is going to go is irritating. "Purge this guy here in Paris." "No problem, I have purged a spot in Kenya" " Whaaaaaa? Why"

You probably know this already, but by communing countries into one, Eurasian Union for example, it reduces the required control points to hold the territory

I don't know how to do this though. The game says that you need to have a claim somehow.

What is the campaign play hour at this point, before going to space?

How long I've been playing? About 2,5 hours. If you can get boost faster than you can do it faster.

I was planning to get into China but ended up accidentally ended up in Russia instead because of Mongolia and Kazakhstan, I kept getting 0% in China. Ended up doing what Putin is trying to do today, with no shots fired other than that starting war which I got Russia to stop and annex them including Ukraine peacefully. Instead it is The Protectorate and Project Exodus that go around declaring wars left and right but at least they have no nukes, yet.

This game looks very interesting but needlessly complicated, with too many moving parts.

Is this game worth it in its current state? It looks fun, but definitely feels unpolished at the moment.

Why didn't you "take care" of Ukraine with army if they are controlled by Servants which are your primary enemy? Is sending army costly?

Mostly pacifism and political correctness as far as I could tell invading Ukraine in a video game as Ukraine is getting invaded in real life probably not a good image😅

The more you play this the less impressed I am with the game's user interface. You keep trying to send your agents to different countries but the list isn't alphabetical so it's a tedious hunt to find them, no are they ranked in "best chance to control" order. Confusing as hell.
