When the Resistance campaign started, I saw that the alien ship crashed in Bosnia and though, "Did it crash? Or did it land and immediately get blown up by a landmine?"
I like that you mentioned starting a "Trainer" campaign. I have been doing something similar, titling my first playthroughs of any deep strategy game "Tutorial Campaign." I can confirm that it does, in fact, give you a mental break as you learn the game. Also really liked the bit about "downtime" so your brain can process the new information. Hitting all the right notes, good sir!
I have a feeling my relationship with TI will be similar to that with EU4. A few fumbling chaotic first plays and gradually getting my head around the mechanics until the gameplay becomes internalised.
It sounds like exactly what I want! EXCRUCIATING DETAIL AND SCALE!! 🤣 I had no idea, this gigantic painful brain-trauma has been available for almost two months!
More support in Norway 5:53 for some reason. Discovered after starting a new game that the beginning faction support levels in the nations are set at random, I think to improve the replayability of the game.
I was on the fence about buying this based on the initial reviews on steam. But at the same time I'd been looking forward to trying this game for a long time. This video was what tipped the balance for me in favor of getting it. For the record, I think most of the negative reviews are from people struggling to understand both the interface and the mechanics. And that is a fair criticism; learning the game is an education in itself. It's not simple, and not always intuitive, and even in the tutorial the hand-holding is almost non-existent. That's going to make this game unappealing for a lot of people just because learning to play is almost like scaling a wall. But the more you get into it and pick it up, the more it draws you in and the more interested in playing you become.
okay, then please please please explain to me what i am missing. the year is 2028. my faction, the resistance controls the usa and the points are secured. the popularity is almost 90% while the countrys are perfectly safe. i also control kanada and mexico with the same told stats. And suddenly, every new "turn" or better, between these turns, the "put random faction in here" steal my defended points. i can literally do nothing to stop that and i cannot grab them back or even attack them. I ragequitted multiple times over this and in the end i edited the save-file and gave all my agents 25 stats in everything. even these maxed out agents could not take the stolen points (or habs) back. Am i missing something or is the balancing really that bad?
@@conradryder2286 I feel you. But you need to be sure of multiple things. Do your points get grabbed by the Servants? Because if you find your countries getting random boosts of servant popularity or control points straight up turning away from you into their hands, it might actually be an alien agent operating in the country. Second, AI factions target valuable nations, and the US is a juicy target for everyone. Best way to deal with this would be training a high espionage councilor to track down and murder high persuasion characters of other factions.
I went right for USA I capped mexico to ease into the US then I just abandoned the othercaps as I started taking the points to ease on my cap limit. I think America is like 130-140cp total? But having a superpower early on really helped out.
Really liked the video, except: Losing is fun! We need to get away that you can only have fun if you win. I enjoy losing, trying out stuff and learning what works and what doesn't. If I just chased "The Meta" I'd constantly have to refer to it and it would be boring.
Haven’t played it yet, hoping too soon but have been watching quite a few playthroughs. Most seem to disagree with your definition of Early to Mid game and that everything until you are building on Luna or Mars is Early Game. Thoughts on this?

It's split into 2 regions, but it's the same country. The regions on the global map are just a gamified simplification of the current geopolitical situation. The game time (at least in the only existing scenario) starts actually now, 01.10.2022 .
Coincidentally, I'm just reading through Book 2 of 'The Dark Forest' trilogy (I think it's a trilogy at least) by Cixin Liu - this game seems kind of like the premise behind it? Anybody read the books and played the game?
ej cool, the most advanced extraterestrials crash in bosnia, that is what i would call justice, we deserve no mor no less, i can say that, i am from bosnia :)
What I would recommend insofar as the entire Grand Strategy genre is concerned is to start with Stellaris. Stellaris is a hybrid 4X and Grand strategy game which will allow you to ease yourself into the mental gymnastics required to parse and understand most of the mechanics common to these games. Best of all, if you have a game pass subscription it is included whether you prefer PC or Xbox One (the console edition is shockingly well-executed; possibly the best console port I have seen). You can spend a good amount of time fooling around in Stellaris to determine whether or not Grand Strategy really does appeal to you without spending any extra money.
I have been following this game for a while, but still not convinced if it's worth my time. It looks kind of cool, but also quite a bit too much. I get that they are going for a "deep" game, but some things just seem insanely overdone, like the tech tree. I also worry about replayability as I get the impression that the aliens have the same agenda every time: attack Earth. Which means that the factions that want to worship them, ally with them or something like that, are just useless as they will definitely not achieve their goals. Unless the aliens have a lot of randomness to their agenda then it will very quickly be a game where you follow the same "recipe" to win every time. I like the concept that the factions are not nations but ideologically based "shadow governments" or something like that. But it almost makes me wonder if the game would be better without the aliens. Just have a faction-based grand strategy where you try to unify the world under your ideology without the hassle of the impending doom of invasion. Maybe I'll just wait for Superpower 3.
idk, played it like, 20 hours, and i have not built a spaceship yet. i had 3 runs started, the longest lasting for 11 hours. and yes. i am playing on max speed, there are no spaceships before that. the best i can offer at that point is a base on the moon with a reactor and a mine

this seems to be in the same spirit as LW2...they expect you to like failure...wasting hours of hours of time (save scum alot if you have to) because you missed a little detail 10h ago. well...its a special kind of gameplay, not very accessible. if its like LW2 you will never feel in control and fight only retreating battles. if that is your thing...sure, go for it. well, this is early access, so maybe, this time, they will actually listen to feedback, because LW2 wasn't a big success after all, they forgot the "fun" in the game.
It feels like poor design, with the UI so complicated and the tutorial so lackluster. The voice narration isn't great and you're going to hear that lady repeat the same line of dialogue every time you open a tutorial. I realize there's probably a fun game in here somewhere, but it's starting to feel like a niche endeavor that requires the equivalent of two years of higher education before you can appreciate the systems you're playing with.

no Crimea starts Russian as it's Russian held for almost a decade now. Russia starts at war with Ukraine, with a severely damaged first guard tank unit in the Kyiv region, but not occupied, just under attack. Ukraine also has a claim on Crimea to model reality. it's all very reality based. lots of people upset at it though because it doesn't align with wishful thinking and propaganda they consume, but nothing you can do about that as a dev I guess
@@Stealth17Gaming because the first 10 hours of gameplay are just a "choose mission for agent, select research and wait"-simulator. there is literally n o t h i n g to do except those 3 things.
Sadly Crimea is de-facto under Russian control right now and is likely to be so until the end of September 2022 (when the Modern scenario starts). The game also models the war in Ukraine with a severely depleted Russian army in the eastern Ukraine, as that is likewise unlikely to change between now and 30/09 - 2022.
